We are seeking a Communications Assistant to provide administrative and creative support to the communications team. This is an exciting role, with the chance to use your skills to make a real difference to Fauna & Flora. Our team works to find engaging and impactful ways to communicate with different audiences the urgency, importance and hope of our work with global network of partners to address the challenges of biodiversity loss and threatened species and habitats around the world.

The Communications Assistant will play a central role in the communications team, ensuring smooth day-to-day running of tasks spanning everything from content uploading to procurement and finance processes to keeping team meetings on track. In this role you will also have the chance to flex your creative muscles and learn more about real-world conservation, as you will be helping to produce content including printed materials, website and social media content, video and photography.

You will have excellent organisational skills and work well within a team. The role will be well suited to a highly motivated individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced team and is passionate about the role that communications plays in modern-day nature conservation.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Heritage Activity and Evaluation Consultant to support the delivery and evaluation of our tower restoration and heritage project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This role is crucial in ensuring the project meets its approved purposes and outcomes, while providing valuable insights for future development.

Scope of Work

1. We expect that the appointed Heritage Activity Consultant will deliver the following:

· Lead on the successful delivery of the heritage engagement activities as per the Project Plan to achieve The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s outcomes and approved purposes

· Lead on the promotion and publicity of the project

· Lead on the recruitment and management of volunteers

· Liaise with the project partners listed in the Project Plan, as well as any other connections that are created through the project

2. Regular Monitoring Support

The Woodland Trust is looking for a Site Manager, to manage the Woodland Trust’s sites in North Scotland, to high professional standards, in accordance with our conservation principles, management approach, policies and contracts, contributing to the Trust’s strategic goals.

THE ROLE

Line-management responsibilities will be for the Seabird Recovery team which consists of two members of staff in first instance, but this may increase depending on project needs.

What’s the role about?

Located 6 miles away from Ballycastle, Rathlin Island is the only inhabited offshore island in Northern Ireland. Comprised of rugged cliffs, unimproved grassland and several lakes, Rathlin island is an idyllic workplace.

The team at the Rathlin Seabird Centre have been delivering exemplary visitor experience for over 16 years, making the reserve a serious opportunity for fundraising and membership recruitment.

As a core part of both the Rathlin team and the Face to Face membership teams, you be working alongside staff and volunteers to welcome visitors to the reserve and enthuse them about the conservation importance of the site. You will be expected to role model best practices for reserve fundraising to inspire new memberships for the RSPB.

Given that this position is based on Rathlin island, the ideal candidate will live within 20 miles of Ballycastle harbour. You don’t have to have fundraising experience - full training will be provided.

Expert knowledge of Northern Irish wildlife is not a pre-requisite, but a passion for conservation, an ability to employ effective communication skills and an eagerness to learn are essential.

About You:

· You are a professional and enthusiastic HR and Operations practitioner with experience spanning people management and day-to-day organisational operations.

· You have a strong track record of developing, motivating, and supporting both staff and volunteers.

· You have the ability to manage a wide range of operations – including health and safety, policy compliance, quality, governance, contracts, and contractor oversight – to support service delivery across the Centre’s diverse functions.

·You are experienced in building and maintaining effective organisational systems.

·You demonstrate outstanding communication skills, attention to detail, and discretion, and you excel at managing a varied workload with competing priorities and tight deadlines.

· You are highly organised and thrive in dynamic environments where flexibility, initiative, and sound judgement are essential.

 Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:                

· Be directly responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient day-to-day functioning of the centre including the management of the Brazelton Centre UK premises and IT, where applicable.

· Understand the legal and reporting obligations of the Brazelton Centre UK as a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and be responsible for ensuring the Centre meets these obligations including for example filing of annual accounts.

· Work with the Board of Trustees, Director, fundraising colleagues and partner organisations to increase voluntary income to the Centre to fund and trial innovative new services and research opportunities in line with our strategy

·Ensure HR policies are reviewed and updated to ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations and best practice. Develop new policies that are fit for purpose, legally compliant, and embedded within the team. 

·Update, maintain and develop employee handbook, HR templates, processes, and systems to support the delivery of an effective HR function. 

·Manage HR systems ensuring all records are maintained accurately and comply with GDPR.

·Day to day line management of a number of the Brazelton Centre staff including the development of objectives, work plans and monitoring ongoing performance, the management of annual leave and sickness and absence monitoring.

·Oversee the entire employee lifecycle - from induction to exit - while implementing talent retention strategies, performance management systems, and succession planning. 

·Oversee organisational volunteer management, ensuring compliance with policies and alignment with strategic objectives 

·Manage grievances and disciplinary actions in accordance with policy. 

·Lead on delivery of annual training plan and annual appraisal process. 

·Oversee day-to-day office management to ensure a warm, inclusive, and safe working environment. 

·Ensure health and safety, compliance, and quality standards are consistently upheld across all HR and operational practices, fostering a safe, legally sound, and high-performing work environment

Support the planning and further development of the Brazelton Centre UK, working to continually extend the reach of our existing NBO and NBAS courses.

·Work with the Director and Board of Trustees, to develop and implement the Brazelton Centre UK’s long-term strategy, and be responsible for the development and delivery of the supporting business plan.

In line with our strategy, where relevant, support the Director to seek new projects, research and funding opportunities related to the aims of the Centre

Promote the activities of the Brazelton Centre UK in enabling the highest standards of service delivery

As required support the Director with engaging with the appropriate resources and media to promote and develop services offered by the Brazelton Centre UK.

 General

The Operational Manager is a key advocate for The Brazelton Centre and is expected to display the highest levels of personal and professional integrity at all times and to always act in a way which reflects positively on the organisation.

About Pagham Harbour

Pagham Harbour is a glorious and peaceful nature reserve, one of the few undeveloped stretches of the Sussex coast. Watch Black-tailed Godwits and Little Egrets by day, then linger when skies are clear for an amazing sunset.

One of the highlights of summer at Pagham is our tern colony on Tern Island. The sound of chattering terns drifts across the languid waters mingled with the harsher squawks of the Black-headed Gulls. Common, Sandwich and Little Terns all nest on the island and it is a delight to watch these elegant seabirds fishing in the harbour, hovering briefly before diving into the water for small fish.
