Washington’s amazing grounds have a lot of infrastructure which requires regular maintenance. By volunteering your time with us you will be helping to ensure that Washington’s grounds are maintained to the highest standards for our visitors. We use resources creatively to maximum effect which is why we need enthusiastic and hardworking people to help with these daily tasks.

What will you be doing?

• This role will be varied and will involve a lot of daily maintenance/minor repair of the infrastructure throughout the Washington Centre grounds, including play areas, fencing, gateways and platforms.
• Use of a wide variety of hand tools and light power tools to carry out repairs.
• Assisting the wardens with any of their ongoing tasks.

Who are we looking for?

• Someone who is committed to great customer service and willing to engage with our visitors on an ad hoc in a friendly and welcoming way
• Someone who is able and willing to undertake a range of physical activities outside in all weathers.
• Previous experience with the use of hand tools would be an advantage, although not necessarily a necessity.
• Proactive and able to work with a minimum of supervision, under the direction of the grounds, reserve and living collection teams.
• Must have excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.

As a volunteer, you will live in accommodation within the local community, in most cases with a host family. This provides an immersive experience where you can develop your language skills and engage closely with the people and culture of your host country. To help you with this, a course of language lessons is also included as part of the long-term programme.

While we have projects to suit most areas of interest, ICYE UK doesn’t recruit based on specific pre-existing skills or qualifications. All we look for are passionate volunteers with a desire to gain cultural, language and work experience while contributing to the work of a local NGO abroad. A wonderful opportunity for those looking to volunteer overseas for all or part of a gap year, either after school or after finishing university, as well as for anyone interested in broadening their horizons during a career break.

To make the experience more straightforward, the fee you pay to take part will cover your accommodation and three daily meals for the duration of your placement, being matched with a project in the host country, airport pick-ups, language classes (long-term only), medical and third-party liability insurance, training and evaluation camps, monthly pocket money (long-term only), administrative costs, help with organising flights and visas, support with fundraising where needed, and extensive general support throughout your placement.

The Ouseburn Trust was established as an independent development trust for the Ouseburn Valley in 1996. Currently it manages property, shapes the regeneration of the area, delivers a programme of heritage activity, a programme of green spacemanagement and an annual festival. The Trust works in partnership with volunteers, thelocal authority and the business community to enhance the physical, social and economicenvironment of the Valley. 

General Responsibilities of the Chair:
1. Strategic Leadership
Provide clear, visionary leadership to the board to ensure the successful delivery of the Trust’s new 3-year strategy. Support and challenge the Chief Executive and leadership team to align operations with strategic goals.
2. Governance and Oversight
Ensure effective governance, risk management, and compliance with the Trust’s legal and regulatoryobligations. Chair board meetings effectively, ensuring decisions are democratic, inclusive, and action-oriented.
3. Support and Supervision
Act as line manager and critical friend to the Chief Executive, offering support, challenge, and regularperformance review. Promote a positive, open culture between the board, staff, volunteers, and wider stakeholders.
4. Ambassadorial Role
Represent the Trust with external stakeholders, funders, partners, and community members.Champion the Trust’s values, mission, and strategic direction within and beyond the Ouseburn Valley.
5. Board Development
Lead in recruiting, developing, and retaining an effective, diverse, and skilled board of trustees. Encourage learning, reflection, and accountability across the board.

Specific Responsibilities (Tailored to Ouseburn Trust and Strategy Delivery):
1. Strategic Plan Implementation
Ensure that board agendas and priorities are aligned with the delivery of the 3-year strategy.Monitor and evaluate progress against strategic milestones, adjusting course where necessary.
2. Place-Based Advocacy
Be a strong and visible advocate for the Ouseburn Valley as a vibrant place for culture, heritage,
business, and community life.
Work collaboratively with key local partners (e.g. Newcastle City Council, local businesses, cultural
organisations).
3. Income Generation and Sustainability
Support the Chief Executive and staff in diversifying income, particularly through partnerships,
commercial activity, and fundraising.
Take an active interest in financial oversight and long-term resilience planning.
4. Community and Volunteer Engagement
Promote meaningful community involvement in the Trust’s activities and ensure the board reflects and
values the views of local people.
Champion the role of volunteers and the importance of their ongoing support and development.
5. Governance Development
Oversee the review and modernisation of governance frameworks if necessary, ensuring they are fit for
purpose for the future.

Time required
Board meetings are held bi-monthly usually on the last Thursday evening from 5.30-7.30pm
Finance Group meetings are held four times a year, usually on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon.

InterVol is a student volunteering charity in the United Kingdom that connects students with volunteering opportunities locally and overseas. InterVol supports students to develop their skills with community projects in the UK and then use those skills to support the work of charitable partners overseas on health, education, refugee support, and conservation placements. Our project placements and volunteering opportunities are designed by our local partners with the long-term needs of beneficiaries and communities in mind. InterVol supports a network of four student societies at English universities with around one hundred volunteers annually.

InterVol is looking to increase its presence on university campuses around England and Wales, and therefore we are accepting applications from university students interested in setting up a student committee.As a committee member, you will be responsible for recruiting students to volunteer locally and abroad, liaising between the board of trustees and the committee, and recruiting committee members for the next academic year. The student committees will be supported by the trustee board, who are drawn from past student committees. 

Setting up a student committee is an excellent opportunity to gain leadership experience, gain a developed insight into the charity sector and international development, and create positive change in your community and abroad. All student committees are supported by the trustee board, and there will be training provided.

·Work with the student union at your university to establish an InterVol committee.

TRAFFIC is the leading non-governmental organization working globally on trade in wild animals and plants in the context of both biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. 

TRAFFIC International is a charity and limited company registered in the UK. TRAFFIC’s head office, based in Cambridge UK, provides worldwide leadership, coordination, cross-regional and corporate functions.  TRAFFIC’s local engagement is managed through programme offices operating under the auspices of the UK charity, with staff based in a hub office and at other strategic locations where necessary. Programme offices operate within a geographic area of responsibility focused on one or multiple countries where TRAFFIC aims to help deliver priority programme outcomes.  TRAFFIC works in strategic alliance with IUCN and WWF on wildlife trade issues.

TRAFFIC has developed a comprehensive trade database, that stores and analyses specific trade related information. Using this information, it is possible to understand illegal trade trends that develop. The TRAFFIC database allows for the gathering of information from source sites and along the trade chain for central collation, monitoring and analysis. Information generated from projects is an integral part of this database and capacity is needed to enter data produced under projects.

We are looking for a dedicated, highly motivated and organised Volunteer to join our Data Team starting ASAP for a minimum of 3 months. We are ideally looking for candidates available to work full time, however are open to discussion of part time.

The successful applicant will be required to be based in TRAFFIC’s Cambridge (UK) office for the duration of the Volunteering to access our database and work closely with the rest of the Data Team.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

The Data Volunteer will be responsible for inputting information generated under projects in an accurate and consistent manner into TRAFFIC’s trade database.  Data entered will enable the production of informative analysis at a later stage by TRAFFIC’s analysts.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collect and input information (some of which may be confidential/sensitive) regarding trade related enforcement actions related to projects.

Obtain existing data on seizures prosecutions from TRAFFIC staff across the globe, clean it and enter it into the database.

All information that is entered must be accurately geocoded to enable mapping exercises at a later stage.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be based in the UK

· Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related subject

· Minimum of six months experience with the collection and collation of data

· Experience of database software is desirable

· Excellent IT skills, particularly in Excel

· An eye for detail and a keen interest and ability to recognise connections between data

· Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team as well as independently, with respect for and sensitivity to multi-cultural approaches

· Familiarity with and an interest in conservation, particularly trade issues

· Fluency in English with excellent English writing skills, other languages would be an advantage.

Hours: Variable - Tuesday mornings

Many people may be well aware of The Hospice of St Francis and the wonderful work done with both inpatient and community-based care, however they perhaps will not be aware of the extensive grounds at the Hospice and that they are cared for by a team of volunteers.

The seven acres of grounds are a mix of formal gardens, woodland and a wildflower meadow with a woodland walk and provide an opportunity for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy the benefits of a wonderful garden and a chance to enjoy our part of the Hertfordshire countryside with wonderful views across to Ashridge.

The ethos of the gardens is very much towards conservation with no use of insecticides or herbicides and with composting of all possible matter. Our aim is to encourage all wildlife in the gardens.

There are a group of about 35 individuals, who operate in teams responsible for their own section of the garden under head gardener, Gill Johnson. We are currently looking for extra help, particularly from people with gardening experience, although all are welcome. We meet on a Tuesday morning each week, with a break for coffee and cake mid-morning.

We carry on throughout the winter, although not in snow and ice. Winter jobs are a warming workout and include leaf raking; grass cutting (training on machinery provided); fencing; building 'dead' hedges.

We are looking for a diligent and detail-oriented Treasurer to join Treasurer to join our governing Council and oversee the financial health of the Friends organisation.

This voluntary role involves leading on the financial affairs of the charity, ensuring they are conducted within the legal, accounting and good practice conventions.

You don’t have to be a chartered accountant, but experience in finance, managing charity budgets, accounts, or day-to-day finance would be valuable.

The Treasurer ensures that appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are in place; and reports to the Council of Trustees about the financial health of the organisation. They work in partnership with the Chairperson and fellow trustees to ensure the financial viability, ongoing development and long-term strategy of the charity.

About Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN)

Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN) is recognised for its work to reduce undernutrition globally. We enhance the effectiveness of nutrition policy and programming by improving knowledge, stimulating learning, connecting key actors and building evidence. We are passionate about being network-driven, independent and evidence-based. 

Our vision is that every individual caught up in a nutritional emergency, or suffering from malnutrition anywhere in the world, gets the most effective help possible.  We undertake knowledge management, research, and advocacy to support national governments, civil society, UN agencies, donors and academic organisations, and communities of practitioners. Through our work and collaborations, we support agencies and individuals to implement evidence-based nutrition programming, predominantly in low- and middle-income countries and in fragile and conflict-affected states.

What we do

ENN’s work includes our “Field Exchange” publication that provides up to date information from research, programme learnings, and news from the sector, generated by practitioners, and distributed to our large network of researchers, practitioners and policy makers globally.  We have projects specialising in Infant Feeding in Emergencies, Wasting and Stunting, Maternal and Adolescent Nutrition and support for Small and Nutritionally at-risk Infants under six months & their mothers and also manage a peer-to-peer forum offering timely answers to the questions challenging those on the front line of providing services to treat and prevent malnutrition in the world.  ENN does not directly implement programmes but works to improve the effectiveness of all nutrition practitioners by helping to shape policy and practice at global and national levels.

Key Tasks

· Translate short documents or messages from English to French, particularly technical content related to malnutrition prevention and treatment.

· Assist in the drafting or translation of social media posts for ENN’s French-speaking audience.

· Attend and take minutes for virtual meetings held in French, involving health and nutrition practitioners working in Francophone Africa.

· Provide feedback and quality assurance on French translations, once familiar with ENN’s tone, terminology, and referencing glossaries (ENN, GNC, etc.).

· Where relevant, support in identifying contacts in Francophone regions for interviews, written contributions, or presentations aligned with ENN’s technical areas of focus.

Requirements

• Fluency in French (C1 or C2 level) with excellent written and verbal skills.
• Good comprehension of English, particularly written English, in order to translate accurately.
• Ability to volunteer time on a flexible, ad hoc basis. Regular times each week may be agreed if preferred.
• Familiarity with or background in nutrition, health, or humanitarian contexts.
• Attention to detail and an interest in contributing to high-quality, impactful communications.

The Sussex Area of the Ramblers has two Countryside Officers, one for East Sussex and one for West Sussex. The main activity in the role is to act on behalf of members where a reported planning development is likely to have an adverse effect on the walking environment in the Sussex countryside.

Description

The Ramblers, which celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2025, is the only charity dedicated to removing barriers so everyone can enjoy walking in green spaces, and to improving Britain’s most popular and least-known walking places. We’re committed to campaigning to keep our countryside open to all and to fighting for the things that matter most to walkers. We lead the way, and the walks, for a vibrant community united by the joys of walking, helping everyone get more out of their walks. 

The role of West Sussex Area Countryside Officer involves reviewing planning applications published by Local Authorities and creating and submitting objections on behalf of Sussex Ramblers if an application is likely to have an adverse impact on the Sussex countryside and the places where people walk. Objections may be expressed in writing through a response to the planning process, but could also involve site visits and on occasions attendance at public hearings or meetings with representatives of Local Authorities or with other stakeholders such as Parish Councils and environmental and wildlife organisations.

The role holder will work closely with other Ramblers volunteers such as the West Sussex Area Footpath Officer, the East Sussex Area Countryside Officer and Local Footpath Wardens in West Sussex and where necessary will seek advice and guidance from Ramblers' Central Office. Other main contacts include the Local Authorities, Parish/Town Councils, the South Downs National Park Authority and the West Sussex Local Access Forum. The role holder will be a member of the Area leadership team (Area Council). You will need to be a member of the Ramblers and to live in or close to West Sussex.

What Impact will you have?

The Ramblers help everyone, everywhere, enjoy walking and protects the places we all love to walk. By volunteering as an Area Countryside Officer you will be paying a vital role in making sure we can achieve this by holding Local Authorities to account for planning decisions, and helping to ensure that our countryside and the places people walk, essential to health and wellbeing, are safeguarded.

Skills and Experience Required

You should have a passion for walking and for preservation and protection of the natural beauty of the countryside and the special qualities of urban space, and a good knowledge of the county. Experience and knowledge of the Local Authorities' planning process is not essential but would be an advantage. The role is suitable for someone who is highly reliable, organised, capable of taking initiative and with an ability to articulate strategic issues clearly in written and spoken form. A desire and ability to work in a team environment is essential. You will also need to be comfortable using a computer and the internet, and managing information.

What is an Inventory volunteer?

The RAF Museum has many items in its collection which are not currently on display. Our inventory volunteers will ensure that we have an up-to-date record of all the items in our reserve collection, their purpose and condition, to help us prepare to move from our current store outside Stafford to a new storage facility in Cosford. This is a weekday only opportunity.

This role sits within the RAF Museum’s Midlands Development Programme which will transform our museum and our impact on the local community through a series of phased projects – engaging audiences who may not obviously identify with the RAF story by finding common interests and histories which link them. As part of this project, we are planning a new learning centre, outdoor spaces, collections hub and major exhibition.

What will I be doing?

The Inventory Volunteer role could encompass various tasks, which might include:

· Assessing objects’ condition

· Undertaking cleaning as required

To combat early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and school dropouts, Usanii Village Africa equips young people, particularly girls and young women, with essential knowledge and resources on menstrual health, reproductive rights, and gender equality. By embedding environmental conservation in education and community initiatives, Usanii Village Africa fosters a culture of sustainability. Social Media Manager

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

Time Commitment: 3 months (September - November 2025)

Main Goal: Help grow our online presence and promote our Outreach In October event.

Responsibilities:

• Create Content: Design and edit social media posts, including graphics, photos, and short videos.
• Manage Socials: Schedule posts, monitor our accounts, and engage with our followers.
• Support Email Marketing: Assist in writing and preparing content for our email campaigns.

Washington’s amazing inner grounds have a lot of infrastructure which requires regular maintenance. By volunteering your time with us you will be helping to ensure that Washington’s play area is maintained to the highest standard for our visitors, helping families make memories in our amazing wetlands.

What will you be doing?

• This role will be varied, and will involve a lot of daily maintenance/minor repair of the play area, including:
• Inspection of play area to identify work required and ensure it is in working order (training will be given in line with our Play Inspection system)
• Cleaning of play equipment and ground surfaces using brushes, mobile jetwash and environmentally safe detergents
• Raking and replenishment of woodchip and sand
• Weeding of play area
• Identifying and undertaking minor repairs of equipment and pathways within the play area
• Managing vegetation around the play area and its pathways

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need. 

Who are we looking for?

• Someone who should be committed to good customer service and willing to engage our visitors with the work of WWT.
• Any volunteer should be able and willing to undertake a range of physical activities outside in all weathers.
• Previous experience with the use of hand tools would be an advantage, although not necessarily a necessity.
• Proactive and able to work with a minimum of supervision, under the direction of the grounds team.
• Must have excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.

Nurturing Sustainable and Equitable Communities through education, biodiversity, and sustainable farming.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Conducting deep online research to identify grant providers, CSR programmes, and funding opportunities that align with our values

• Reading and analysing funder guidelines to assess eligibility, fit, and application requirements

• Creating clear summaries and recommendations based on your findings

• Identifying potential partnerships with organisations, trusts, or foundations that share our ethos

• Meeting with the Director once a week (remotely) to discuss research progress and priorities
