Introduction to Croydon Refugee Day Centre

The Croydon Refugee Day Centre (CRDC) is a small, primarily volunteer-led organisation, with a 4-person staff team and 70 dedicated volunteers.

Our mission is to work together with asylum seekers, refugees and other stakeholders to create a welcoming, responsive & sustainable community at Croydon Refugee Day Centre, where people seeking sanctuary are respected as equals, can regain some control of their lives and build towards a future in the UK.Bottom of Form  Last year, we supported over 1600 people.

Over the past few years, the number of asylum seekers and refugees in Croydon has increased dramatically, and CRDC is increasing its services and staffing to meet the new level of need.

Job Role

Title: Administrator

Contract: One year fixed -term contract (role may be extended dependent on funding)

Salary: £29,680 FTE (pro rata to 3 days/22.5 hours per week - £17,808 absolute salary)

Reporting to: Operational and Volunteer Coordinator

Job Description

As Administrator for the Croydon Refugee Day Centre, you will be a crucial part of our small staff team, working across, maintaining and developing all our administrative systems. Your core responsibilities will be as follows:

• To manage the central administrative systems, processes and procedures of CRDC across different platforms, including Google Drive and Microsoft Teams, plus subscriptions to other services (e.g. web hosting)
• To manage our CRM Access Database of community members, including weekly data entry and management of accompanying paper records; plus annual updates and assisting with extraction of statistics for grant reports and trustee meetings.
• To manage administrative tasks and improve and develop administrative systems associated with our 70-strong volunteer team, including initial recruitment and onboarding of volunteers, DBS checks and references, weekly rotas etc.
• To develop and manage a database of (potential) in kind and financial donors and/or newsletter subscribers and to communicate externally with community donors, including writing thank you letters.
• To ensure that record keeping across the organisation is performed in line with our GDPR and confidentiality responsibilities.
• To support the Coordinators and Manager in managing Hardship Funds, including regular purchasing of necessary hardship supplies, such as toiletries, underwear etc.
• To manage purchasing of office and other supplies and equipment as necessary.
• To manage day-to-day administrative tasks, including but not limited to: monitoring and replying to external email queries; preparation of documents and letters for other staff members; weekly updates of website and facebook page.
• To assist Manager wih financial systems and bookkeeping, including working with Xero.
• To assist Manager with preparation of documents for trustee meetings, prepare draft minutes and act as Secretary at meetings.

RLS Caseworker / Solicitor

As a RLS Caseworker / Solicitor you will conduct a small strategic caseload of asylum and refugee family reunion cases and assist on litigation (where eligible) under our legal aid contract to push for better decision-making, secure results for individuals and pursue improvements in the relevant law, policy and practices. 

You will also act as the supervising caseworker/lawyer for the Afghan Pro Bono Initiative (APBI), which is a specialist casework project delivered by RLS with funding and pro bono assistance from 11 leading commercial law firms. As part of this role, you will supervise pro bono lawyers to provide high quality legal representation for Afghans on matters including family reunion, the ARAP scheme, the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme and others. The project is now in its 3rd year and won the Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership Award at the Law Works Pro Bono Awards in 2022 as well as being nominated and commended for numerous other awards in 2022 and 2023. Please note that RLS recognise that pro bono legal work is always an adjunct to, and not a substitute for, an adequate system of publicly funded legal services. 

Key responsibilities

• Have conduct of a small strategic caseload and provide high quality legal advice and representation to clients
• Supervise the work of volunteer pro bono commercial lawyers on cases
• Deliver training to pro bono commercial lawyers
• Ensure that all legal work is promptly and accurate recorded on RLS’s case management system and keep relevant time recording
• Develop and disseminate relevant information on legal developments in this area for relevant stakeholders, including both the Afghan Community and building the capacity of other practitioners

Essential

• Be either a member of the Bar, a solicitor and accredited to IAAS Senior caseworker level, accredited to IAAS Senior caseworker level, or OISC accredited to Level 3
• Experience of asylum casework
• Experience of refugee family reunion procedures and applications, including applications outside of the Immigration Rules reliant on Article 8 ECHR and other human rights provisions
• Experience of online immigration applications
• Demonstrable knowledge of legal aid provision and ECF applications
• Experience of and commitment to working in a collaborative way on legal cases
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English
• Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines

About the Service

This service sits within our Complex Needs and Community Services and are informal drop-in group for Refugees and Asylum Seekers. • Planning and preparing for each weekly session, establishing the session aims, materials required and anticipated outcomes for people attending.

JustMoney Movement is seeking a part-time Fundraising lead to help us grow a more sustainable funding base. The role will work with senior staff to develop our strategic case for support to target small organisational/ institutional donors (£1-5k grants/ donations).

We are a Christian charity using education and advocacy to work towards our vision of a fairer, greener future, through the transformation of our financial system and wider economy. We want to grow and diversify our funding base, reducing our dependence on a small number of grants, and building a movement of allies who feel part of the community and are willing to financially support it.

The Fundraising lead will work with senior staff to develop a case for support for our overall strategy and use this to target small organisational/ institutional donors including small trusts; corporates and organisations; and churches. 

Role description

· Grade 3.1 expected FTE salary £35,700 pro-rated to 0.4 FTE/ 14 hours a week = £14,280 (subject to annual inflationary pay review).

· Fixed term 12-month contract. This post has funding for 1 year.  If successful, there could be scope to extend the role for longer.

· Remote based: this role will be based from home, with occasional travel to meetings in London or elsewhere in the UK, for which expenses will be payable. This role is equivalent to 2 days a week but hours can be worked flexibly through the week.

Role Requirements

· Develop and deliver JustMoney Movement’s core fundraising strategy for small organisational/ institutional donors (donations/ grants of between £1-5k) targeting small trusts, organisations, corporates and churches.
