About the role
This post will work as part of a community partnership programme, a small team providing accessible and bespoke perinatal care including, antenatal education, postnatal sessions, peer support, counselling and practical support to women from low-income migrant marginalised backgrounds.
The role will provide non-judgmental, compassionate and trauma-informed care to women accessing the service helping them to navigate complex needs and overcome barriers to access through a creative, solution-focused approach. Working alongside the Perinatal Programme Manager building and maintaining a network of local support services, helping to develop clear referral pathways and strong partner relationships.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience of supporting or working with marginalised or vulnerable groups and understanding the barriers they face to accessing support and an awareness of ways in overcoming them
- Knowledge and experience working or volunteering with women and birthing people during pregnancy and early years
- Experience working within a relevant sector e.g., maternity, children’s services, homelessness, women’s services, mental health, supporting asylum and refugee families
- A good knowledge and understanding of local support and services for the client group
- Experience in empowering women to make informed decisions about their lives and advocating for their needs and rights
- Ability to handle challenging situations and behaviour with a calm, flexible and confident approach to reach a positive resolution
- Able to work reflectively, developing an awareness of any judgements, biases or assumptions that may impact upon your work.

The IO will lead investigations, and will give the complainant (who may be a child, young person or adult) the opportunity to express their view, ensure the child or young person’s rights and best interests are at the centre of the investigation and that the investigation/review process is open and transparent. IPCs are independent, freelance and responsible for their own work. Job Summary
The IDVA will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process.
They will advise women on criminal justice and civil remedies and related matters, support women to attend court where necessary, and coordinate the provision of multi-agency support.
The post holder will hold a reduced caseload of survivors and will also be required to work as part of Advance’s duty team based in Hammersmith which will involve completing intake assessments and providing crisis intervention support.
The post holder will have an excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children, and of best practice within the domestic abuse sector. As an experienced domestic abuse advocate who has worked with complex and multiple needs, the post holder will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis.
Experience of direct work with female survivors of domestic abuse and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensure effective access to the service for women and girls and encourage their engagement with services through multi-agency working and service flexibility.
- To work within the team to conduct comprehensive assessments of needs and risk for women experiencing domestic abuse referred to our services.
- To carry out short- and longer-term risk management, safety planning and support; and identify and refer to services appropriate to their needs, including attendance at specialist/dedicated courts and MARAC as required.
- Develop and deliver safety and support plans that include delivery of high-quality face-to-face or telephone crisis intervention, information, advocacy, and support, in respect to criminal and civil remedies, housing, health, welfare rights, children’s legislation and other appropriate interventions.
- Advise women of their rights and options for seeking help and support from other agencies, making referrals and co-ordinating the provision of multi-agency support where necessary, and proactively advocate ensuring barriers to accessing support and protection are minimised.
- Proactively assess the needs and safety of any children that women using the service may have, ensure that any risks/needs identified are addressed directly with the woman, and take appropriate action to safeguard them.
- If a client is involved in the criminal justice system as a witness, provide them with information, advocacy, and support as cases progress through the criminal justice system, supporting them to apply for special measures and to give impact statements, to maximise their safety to help them give best evidence and accompanying women to court where necessary.
- Work with the management team and Data Insights Analyst to ensure all monitoring and evaluation for the project is accurate and fully maintained, keeping managers informed of any issues and successes.
- Ensure that agreed case recording and monitoring systems are kept up to date and secure, and write internal and external reports where required, including for safeguarding conferences, team meetings, managers and others as required.
- Use appropriate institutional advocacy to maximise positive outcomes and use the appropriate reporting mechanisms to highlight persistent or recurring issues that arise.
- Be responsible for your own personal learning development and keep up to date on research, relevant legislation, policy and practice, and other literature relevant to the role.
- Participate in supervision, training and meetings as required and assist in the development of services in line with agreed development plans.

CARIS Families is a small frontline charity that offers holistic support to families experiencing homelessness in hostels in the London Boroughs of Camden and Hackney. Amongst our other services, we run play and learning activities for children aged 0-16 from within 4 hostels in these boroughs, as well as a school holiday day trip programme. Our services for children aim to reduce the stress on children and parents of living in overcrowded, insecure accommodation, and to put back essential childhood experiences that homeless accommodation deprives children of.
The services we currently offer our families in hostels are:
- Kids Club: an after-school play club in term time for 0-16s, run from our dedicated play club in the basement of one family hostel in Camden.
- Enrichment Trips and Summer Programme: a series of day trips for groups of families from our 4 hostels in the school holidays. We take part in exciting activities and visit interesting destinations round London and the South-East, to ease the pressures of being stuck in the hostel during the long school breaks.
- Essentials Bank: Our Essentials bank runs weekly in term-time from two of our hostels, offering families free hygiene products such as toiletries, nappies, washing powder etc. to ease the pressure on family finances at a difficult time.
- Family Support Work and Housing Casework: we offer holistic casework to support families to ease the stress of their situation, from working on finances to supporting employment searches, to assisting with legal cases and supporting them to navigate their housing case and move out of homelessness as soon as possible.

Here at the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health, for more than 20 years we have developed an international reputation for producing evidence-based guidance, evaluation and policy.
An opportunity has become available for a Senior Researcher to join the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health to provide maternity leave cover for 11 months in the first instance.
You will lead in the development of competence frameworks, systematic reviews, evaluations, research reports and articles for peer-reviewed publication, as well as other research tasks. This role is a newly created position working within the Youth Access to Immigration Representation and Advice (YAIRA) project providing immigration and asylum support to young people who are in care or are care leavers. The YAIRA Project was set up by Coram CLC and 4 local authorities – Enfield, Islington, Barnet and Camden - to increase access to representation and advice for children in care and leaving care.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a keen interest in upholding the rights of vulnerable children and young people with experience of the care system who is seeking to progress their legal aid career in the charity sector. You will be expected to provide high quality legal advice, assistance and representation to these clients through legal aid casework.

When not working on the YAIRA project, the postholder may be asked to provide paralegal casework support to the wider immigration and asylum team.

Age UK is recruiting for a detail oriented Legal Adviser - Solicitor to provide advice, assistance and guidance to all parts of the Age UK Group that is timely, solutions focused and legally compliant.
In this full time role, you will act as both an individual contributor and as part of a team - working closely with the Company Secretary and other members of the legal team to ensure that an effective and appropriate legal service is provided to the charity and business, identifying any areas for concern and potential improvement and making contributions to the development of the organisation as a whole.
We operate a hybrid-working model, a blend of home and office working. This role will include regular days working from our London office. Your travel costs to the London office are not covered.

You must be admitted and qualified to practice law in England and Wales, holding a current practising certificate. You will have an LLB or equivalent, plus a post-graduate course in a law related field (e.g. the LPC), with excellent academic credentials.
