About the role:

When a family member sustains a spinal cord injury it is a life changing experience for the whole family. They can feel very isolated and that no one understands what they’re going through.

Back Up’s Family Support Service is there to help. We enable a wide range of family members of all ages whose loved one is affected by spinal cord injury (SCI) to improve their wellbeing, build a support network and transform their lives through Back Up’s services. 

The Family Support Coordinator will assist in supporting family members on an individual basis as well as in group settings as appropriate, together with providing support in the process of identifying, recruiting and training new family support volunteers.

A Family Support Coordinator will be comfortable and efficient with data management and GDPR compliance.

Lived experience of having a relative with SCI is essential, together with sharing our commitment to transform the lives of everyone affected by spinal cord injury.

The responsibilities of the Reporting Accountant will include:

• Support production of the monthly GPA and budget holder management accounts to tight deadlines.

You will prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for senior management and trustees. You will monitor budgets and forecasts, process invoices, expenditure, and bank reconciliations. You will also support with the administration of restricted funds, grants, and project budgets, including reporting to funders.
 
To be successful in this role, you will be AAT qualified or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA, or equivalent finance qualification. You will have experience in a similar finance role, ideally in the charity or non-profit sector. You will have a strong working knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero, or similar packages). You will also have demonstrable experience using Microsoft Excel and excellent attention to detail.

You will be responsible for providing women with continuous one-to-one support, practical advice and advocacy and ensuring that the women receive comprehensive support that addresses their physical and mental health, social care, housing, immigration and benefit-related needs.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide  a  professional  high-­quality  VAWG  advocacy  and  outreach  service.

2. Undertake  casework  and  advocacy  (this  will  include  liaising  with  relevant  professionals  and  agencies  such  as  solicitors,  social  workers,  police  officers  etc.) 

3. Provide  practical  support  such  as  accompanying  women  to  appointments  and  courts,  making  reports  to  such  agencies  or  collecting  belongings  and  otherwise  taking  all  necessary  steps  to  ensure  the  general  safety  and  wellbeing  of  women  and  children. 

4. Write  assessment  reports  and  support  letters,  and  under  supervision,  help  to  collect  evidence  and  statements,  as  well  as  undertake  some  basic  legal  representation.

5. Undertake risk assessments for referral to the Multi-­Agency Risk Assessment Conferences  (MARACs) 

6. Establish  links  with  key  partners  [local  authority,  police,  health,  schools,  etc.]  to  ensure  effective  referral  routes  and  information  sharing  protocols.

7. Assist  in  developing  and  meeting  quality  standards  in  relation  to  advice  and  casework.  This  includes  administration  and  IT  systems  for  advice  and  casework. 

8. Cover the helpline as required.

9. Assist migrant women to access immigration advice, and assist in meeting their housing needs.

10. To  undertake  campaigning  and  policy  work  arising  from  the  advice  and  casework  (this  may  involve  some  weekend/evening  work)

11. Where  necessary  to  assist  staff  in  organising  and  running  support  group  activities  and  consultations  for  women  who  are  isolated  and  vulnerable  due  to  their  experiences  of  violence  and  abuse.

12. To  publicise  and  provide  S4S  services,  and  attend,  contribute  and  represent  the  organisation  at  relevant  local  meetings  or  initiatives. 

13. To  support and mentor the Women’s Council.

14. Follow  S4S policies  and  procedures,  and  maintain  IT  and  case  file  management  systems.

15. Contribute  to  S4S  record  keeping  and  provide  information  for  monitoring,  evaluation,  policy,  and  research  and  training  purposes. 

16. Ensure  women  are  referred  to  S4S  projects  and  activities  as  required  for  example,  counselling or group work.

17. Support women residing in the refuge as required.

18. Be  self-­servicing  and  to  assist  other  workers  when  required. 

19. Undertake  any  additional  duties  which  will  contribute  to  the  smooth  running  of  the  S4S services  and  projects.

• Experience working with charity trading subsidiaries and dealing with entities singularly and as a group

About The Role

We’re on the lookout for a Senior Internal Communications & Engagement Officer who can hit the ground running in our fast-paced team for a 12 month fixed term contract. This role is all about supporting and coordinating the delivery of engaging and timely communications for both our colleagues and members. You’ll be responsible for managing a variety of content across multiple channels, from the staff intranet to email publications. This is an opportunity to truly make an impact by ensuring our internal messages are clear, on-brand, and reach the right audience.

You’ll be working closely with our Internal Communications and Engagement team to gather, write, and edit content that resonates with both staff and members. Whether it’s contributing to our regular publications, helping to produce content for events like our Town Halls, or maintaining our intranet and digital platforms, your role will be fundamental in keeping everyone informed and connected. You'll also have the chance to get involved in producing posters and digital screens, all while ensuring a seamless experience for our internal audiences.

A key part of your role will involve measuring the effectiveness of our communications efforts. You'll be tasked with gathering feedback and providing reports to help refine our approach and ensure that our channels are always working to their full potential. Plus, you’ll help manage our internal communications inboxes, responding to queries and requests from across the organisation with a keen eye for detail and a proactive attitude. If you enjoy a bit of variety, this role will certainly keep you busy with different ad hoc projects and support for internal events as well.

Our ideal candidate is someone with a background in internal communications, ideally with experience in intranet or web publishing systems. If you’ve worked in the charity sector, that’s a bonus. You’ll need to have excellent written communication skills, be a whizz at managing your time, and bring a flexible approach to the role. Above all, we need someone who’s enthusiastic about creating great content and keeping everyone informed in a way that feels fresh and engaging. You will be contracted to our London Hub, Haig House. Under our Future Working framework, there will be some flexibility for working remotely/at home, using our collaboration tools to work with colleagues, but with a minimum expectation of two days/week connecting directly face-to-face with colleagues at the hub.

About the role

My View Project provides one-to-one psychological therapy, group therapy and Psychoeducational Workshops to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people presenting with mental distress. The project has adapted a psychosocial perspective using our Therapeutic Care Model to address the identified needs of clients using a holistic approach. The team have supported unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people by providing therapeutic support since 2015.

The purpose of this post is to provide therapeutic intervention to unaccompanied children and young people who have often been through traumatic experiences, including being trafficked, abused and having witnessed horrific events, as a result of upheaval in their country of origin and along their journey to survival.

Therapy at My View is delivered alongside casework support delivered by a caseworker who supports clients with any issues such as age assessment, housing, access to healthcare, benefits, school enrolment etc. 

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Therefore, all convictions, cautions and bind-overs, including those regarded as ‘spent’, must be declared at the application stage.

Hours: Part-time, 21 hours per week.

Contract: Fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027.

Location: Stratford office with hybrid working.
