Senior Communications Officer

About the Role

As Senior Communications Officer, you will lead on delivering a bold, inclusive communications strategy, raising the profile of the UK’s National Trails and building awareness of their value for people, places and nature.

A mission-driven and impact focused single programme NGO is seeking a Finance Business Partner with strong financial modelling skills for a part-time, fully remote fixed term contract for approximately 4-6 months. The role is to support the Finance Director, HR team, CEO and other stakeholders with business partnering, along with specific financial modelling projects.

The organisation’s mission is to get 3-6 year old children in rural Africa to thrive. They have developed an award-winning Early Childhood Development programme, proven its impact through rigorous evaluation, and scaled it with governments in both Ghana and Uganda. It is currently reaching over 300,000 children per year, and we aim to reach 1 million children per year by 2028. The programme benefits both preschool age children and unlocks the potential of marginalised rural parents.

You will work in a busy finance team based in the UK, Ghana and Uganda. The role can be done fully-remotely from within the UK, and the salary range on offer is circa £50,000 - £60,000 FTE (pro-rata). It is anticipated there will be around 2-3 days work per week for approximately 4-6 months.

Experience within a business partnering / modelling role within the NGO sector would be very useful, but is not essential.

Duties include:

• Work focused on adaptions for new contexts: The programme targets rural communities in Ghana and Uganda. This year the organisation plans to scale to a new country and to test ways to adapt it for this new context. They are also keen to explore whether the programme can be adapted for refugee settings.
• Financial modelling focused on selecting a new country to launch the programme
• Specific cost modelling and fundraising modelling around the corporate sponsorship of the organisation’s radio station project

• Develop and strengthen robust and flexible cost models (including sensitivity analyses/stress testing) to guide decisions around the pace and rate of scale, staffing & resource requirements (HR), ensure value for money and maximise cost efficiencies.
• Develop robust budgets for new and renewal funder applications, considering complexities around funder restrictions, currency exchange and forecast economic conditions.
• Analysis and modelling on organisational procedures & policies and capacity building projects

Requirements:

• Fully or part-qualified ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent
• Demonstrable experience with finance business partnering to a range of stakeholders
• Strong financial modelling skills – ideally in things such as cost analysis, funding analysis etc
• Intermediate/advanced Excel and strong data analysis skills
• An understanding of international charity finance - donor reporting, programmes finance, foreign currency transactions is useful
• Experience juggling multiple projects at once
• Must be able to start the role quickly - ideally immediately available or with a short notice period

• Providing direct support to road victims and their families in the North Yorkshire  region, following Brake’s trauma-informed model of care.

We’re looking for a motivated and organised Grants Officer to coordinate grant fundraising efforts at the World Parrot Trust.

About the role:

This is an exciting new business role which has emerged in our newly formed Philanthropy and Partnerships team. As our Partnerships Development Manager (New Business), you will be confident and credible at senior levels, adept at storytelling, relationship building and able to drive transformational philanthropic partnerships to secure five or six-figure and multi-year commitments. This will help take the organisation from an annual income of £10m to £15m over the next 3-5 years to accelerate and expand Hope and Homes for Children’s impact for children and families.

About Hope and Homes for Children:

We believe children belong in families, never orphanages. Because orphanages harm children. The majority of those who experience life inside an institution suffer violence, abuse and neglect. Denied the chance to grow up in a family, they’re more likely to become homeless later in life, to have run-ins with the law, and to experience mental and physical health issues.
 
The shocking truth is that these are almost always children who have, or could have, a family to look after them. To love them. But every day, a broken system puts pressure on parents to give up their children. They'll be safe from war, can escape poverty, will get an education. False promises. No child should have to trade their family for their future.
 
Today, over 5.4 million children are trapped within institutions. It’s not right and it must stop. Children deserve so much better. Always.
 
Since 1994, Hope and Homes for Children has been working to stop the institutionalisation of children. Communications Assistant

The Opportunity

You will provide communications support for Good Faith Partnership and a range of projects we deliver, including:

● The Warm Welcome Campaign for people right across the UK particularly those experiencing fuel poverty or loneliness;

● Welcome Hubs for refugees and asylum seekers;

● ChurchWorks which aims to bring the Christian Church and government closer together to effect positive change in UK society.

We anticipate that the successful candidate will spend around two-thirds of their time supporting the Warm Welcome Campaign and the remainder supporting wider Good Faith Partnership projects.

You’ll work across all aspects of communications, including design and content creation, e-marketing, social media engagement and delivery, events, website management and managing our photo and story libraries. You’ll be delivering communications to support our campaigning and influencing, fundraising, awareness raising, storytelling and brand elevation.

This is an entry level communications post. We’re looking for someone who is organised and systematic, thrives on creating engaging written and visual content, and loves working with all kinds of people. You’ll be encouraged and supported to grow and develop your communications skills and expertise.

Responsibilities

Working closely with the Communications Manager and Director of Communications you will work in the following areas:

Content creation

You will help bring Good Faith’s many projects to life through engaging visuals, videos and communications materials by:

● Creating visual assets using design software such as Canva

● Creating other visual content including short-form video

● Helping commission other visually led content such as banners, flyers and reports

 

Social media

A significant part of the role includes increasing our reach through social media:

● Creating and scheduling regular content for LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky and X

● Using insight data to drive social engagement

● Developing strategic partnerships with relevant accounts on the different social platforms

● Engaging with partners and stakeholders on social platforms—sharing stories with the wider team as standard

● Responding to posts, comments and direct messages

● Monitoring trends through social listening and sharing these with the team

Websites

You will support the Communications Manager by:

● Writing and publishing engaging stories and news items to profile the great work of the team and our projects

● Preparing copy and visuals for web pages in our CMS

● Uploading content to websites

● Ensuring website copy is accurate and up to date

Email newsletters

You will work with the Communications Manager to:

● Support email communications

● Help maintain the email communications database

● Create and schedule email communications, ensuring content has been approved by a team member

● Segmenting audiences to keep communications relevant and engaging

PR

You will support the Communications Manager in a year-round programme of PR and media relations by:

● Creating lists of contacts in our media database

● Helping to amplify our news through our email distribution platform

● Monitoring PR mentions of our projects through our media database

Supporting systems and resources

● Taking responsibility for developing and maintaining accessible communications systems

● Managing our digital image and stories library, keeping stories and case studies up to date and searchable by the rest of the team

● Securely storing and organising documents on our G-Drive, ensuring accessibility for the team and compliance with GDPR

● Supporting, maintaining and developing existing partnerships and managing the systems (including CRM use) needed for communications delivery
