We are now looking for an outstanding Chief Programme Officer to join our senior leadership team. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic, values-led leader to drive the next phase of our development, translating policy into practice, leading an exceptional team, and ensuring we deliver measurable change for young people.
About the Role
As Chief Programme Officer, you will lead the design and delivery of our programmes and services, ensuring they remain responsive to emerging needs and aligned with our mission. You will bring clarity, coherence and ambition to our delivery strategy, connecting the big picture to day-to-day actions.
We’re looking for someone who can unify and inspire a multidisciplinary team, while commanding credibility across the careers and skills ecosystem. You’ll be adept at working with a wide range of stakeholders, from schools and employers to local authorities, government agencies, and funders. You’ll have the confidence to represent us as an expert in what works in careers education, and the humility to keep learning.
What You’ll Bring
- A track record of senior leadership in a relevant field (e.g. education, skills, youth employment, social impact).
- The ability to turn government policy into practical, fundable, scalable interventions.
- A strategic mindset with experience in outcome-based planning (ideally including OKRs).
- Strong people leadership skills and a collaborative, empowering style.
- An understanding of the needs and motivations of all our client groups - students, educators, employers, and investors.
- Personal credibility and warmth, someone who brings both gravitas and kindness to their leadership.

What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a qualified senior finance professional with:

Proven experience in a senior financial leadership role

Strong technical understanding of charity finance and compliance

Excellent relationship-building skills with staff, auditors, trustees, and other stakeholders

The ability to lead and mentor a high-performing finance team

A values-led approach aligned with YMCA’s purpose and ethos
Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic financial leadership, advising the CEO and Board on financial direction and policy

Lead the organisation’s budgeting, planning and reporting processes

Ensure legal, regulatory, and statutory compliance across all financial activities

Manage and develop the Finance Team, embedding strong processes and financial controls

Produce annual operating plans and oversee financial KPIs

Act as Company Secretary for YMCA Trinity Group and its subsidiaries

Lead relationships with external auditors and financial specialists (e.g. tax, VAT, payroll)

Maintain strong engagement with the Trustees, the FRaC Committee, and the Executive Team

As we scale up towards opening, this is your opportunity to shape a high-impact, seven-day-a-week frontline offer for up to 250 children and young people each night – energising a team, building a culture, and delivering at scale.
This senior leadership role sits at the heart of delivery, partnerships, and safeguarding, with the power to help shape the future of inclusive, relational, and values-led play and youth provision in the city – working alongside an incredible network of partners and community organisations.
What you’ll be doing:
· Lead the strategic development and operational delivery of our open access play and youth programme 40 hours a week of activities that are responsive, inclusive, and exciting!
· Line manage Team Leaders and oversee a large team of part-time and sessional staff, embedding a culture of reflection, excellence and relational practice
· Shape a delivery model rooted in Play Work and Youth Work theory, focused on progression, relationships, and personal development
· Be the Designated Safeguarding Lead ensuring all children and young people are safe and supported
· Build powerful partnerships with local organisations, schools, and services to strengthen our reach and offer
· Champion the use of CRM and data systems to track, evidence and grow our impact
· Play a vital role in organisational planning and decision-making as part of the Senior Leadership Team

· Confident in staff management and programme design – able to motivate, support and inspire large teams
· A safeguarding expert, with a strong understanding of duty of care and safe practice
