The role

As the breadth and volume of our fundraising activity has grown over the last couple of years, an opportunity has arisen for a detail orientated and enthusiastic individual to join our database team. This role will be line managed by the Database Manager, with a dotted line to the Senior Database Officer to ensure the smooth running of our income processing activity, making a significant impact for the charity, and enabling excellent supporter care.

The team

Our dynamic fundraising department are preparing for an ambitious multimillion-pound campaign in support of a ground-breaking cancer centre on the site of the Royal Free Hospital. We pride ourselves on being a supporter focused and agile function, working at the heart of the charity to deliver impact for patients and staff across our hospitals.

Responsible for attracting and retaining donors, and delivering an outstanding supporter experience, the fundraising department comprises two teams which work closely together to achieve our shared objectives:

- Our Public Fundraising team harnesses the support and energy of individuals and groups, helping them to give back in the way that works for them. This includes committed giving, in memory support, gifts in wills, and fundraising events and challenges. Our Philanthropy and Campaign teams builds relationships with individual philanthropists, trusts, foundations, and corporate organisations which give, or have potential to give, £10,000 to the charity each year. They lead major appeal activity for the charity, currently focused on our exciting cancer campaign which is due to launch in 2025.

- Our database team sit within Fundraising, with their work underpinning and supporting the entire department.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you bring experience of strategically developing and delivering mass participation events and activities to achieve growth ideally within a fundraising capacity.

With an excellent understanding of marketing techniques (especially digital) and knowledge of a broad range of innovative fundraising activities and principles, you have experience of managing and developing a diverse product portfolio. Using customer, market and financial data and insight you can make decisions to drive long term growth.

A strategic thinker with expertise managing commercial projects who can achieve objectives through analytical insights. You are agile and responsive to both internal and external factors with a knowledge of new and emerging technologies and trends in the events fundraising space. You also have the ability to interpret customer, market and financial data and insight to inform recommendations.

An excellent communicator and project manager, comfortable with juggling multiple, often conflicting priorities you'll work in matrix style across two key areas of the team.

Working arrangements

This is a 12-month fixed term contract. 
 
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

At BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on hybrid contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average. 

This position involves travel throughout the UK and occasional weekend working for event delivery (approximately 5 weekends per year). Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) will be provided for weekend work.

Vision of adventure, a small outdoor charity based in the Lake District , is seeking an experienced fundraiser to join our team. We specialise in working with people with visual impairments facilitating outdoor adventures, social connection and access to specialist coaching. This is an exciting opportunity to join Dementia UK as Senior Mass Participation Manager. Leading a team of nine, you’ll be responsible for delivering a successful strategy and operational plan for virtual events and mass participation products, ensuring sustainable growth and impact.

About the Fundraising department

The Fundraising department is a dynamic group of fundraisers who are passionately committed to raising money for our life-changing work in the mental health and mental illness space. We have a diverse portfolio of income streams across Events, Community, Individual Giving, Legacies, In-Memoriam, Philanthropy, Trusts and Grants, and Partnerships.

The Partnerships team has a strong track record delivering notable charity partnerships, such as our multi-year Lloyds Banking Group partnership which successfully raised £16m; our two-year partnership with Bank of America, which saw over $1.2m raised through the dedication of employees; our ongoing partnership with Dune, whose workforce gets involved to support our cause; and more.

Sitting within the External Affairs directorate, we work across both Mental Health UK and Rethink Mental Illness enabling us to harness the collective power of both organisations and deliver nearly £7million to support their work.

The Passage are an incredible London charity providing people experiencing homelessness with the support to transform their lives. About the Role

We're looking for a passionate and experienced Challenge Events Manager to lead and grow our challenge events programme at The Passage. This new role offers a unique opportunity to shape a new events strategy, inspire supporters, and drive sustainable income. You'll manage third-party and bespoke events, build supporter journeys, and create engaging content to foster community and loyalty. Working closely with the wider team, you'll bring fresh ideas, test new concepts, and deliver high-quality events that raise both funds and our profile.

Role and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be joining at an incredibly exciting time at The Passage, with challenge events having grown in profile and prominence over the past 12-18 months - with an incredible 50 people signed up for the Hackney Half this year, it is the start of something exciting for the fundraising team.

The postholder will:

• Lead the delivery and development of The Passage's Challenge Events strategy, expanding the portfolio and growing net income.
• Research, test, and implement new events to diversify fundraising opportunities and attract new supporters.
• Provide tailored stewardship to individuals and groups, enhancing supporter journeys and retention.
• Collaborate with internal teams to drive corporate participation, deliver compelling marketing campaigns, and support volunteer-led fundraising.
• Oversee third-party relationships, ensure value for money, and manage event safety through robust risk assessments
• Produce and manage the Challenge Events income and expenditure annual plan and budget.

About You:

You will bring passion, ambition and energy about the work of The Passage combined with the essential skills to build and deliver a brilliant calendar of challenge events. This will include:

• Proven track record and knowledge in delivering third-party and bespoke challenge events, including participant recruitment and supporter stewardship.
• Experience in recruiting engaged and passionate fundraisers/participants and building long-term relationships through excellent supporter engagement.
• Skilled in planning and executing mass participation and third-party events, often in collaboration with external agencies.
• Strong ability to use data, insight, and market trends to inform strategy and identify growth opportunities.
• Demonstrated success in setting budgets, achieving income targets, and driving portfolio growth.
• Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce and experience working within the charity sector.

Role description

As our philanthropy coordinator, you will play a key role in building new partnerships with philanthropists and high-net-worth individuals, with an immediate focus on the UK, US, and Europe. You will design and implement a comprehensive strategy to build a robust portfolio of individual donors, Family Foundations, Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) and other personal giving vehicles. 

A proactive and thoughtful relationship builder, you will maintain long-term relationships and lead bold strategies to engage new audiences, including millennial and next-generation philanthropists. You will steward Open Briefing’s first global development board, working closely with our CEO and director of development to engage members around a dynamic programme of activities designed to make Open Briefing more fundable and findable. 

Together with our director of development, you will drive forward a multi-year fundraising strategy to resource our work with activists and organisations on the frontlines of human rights, social justice, and environmental action. 

Your primary responsibilities will include: 

• Designing and executing our philanthropy fundraising strategy. Lead a strategy to identify, cultivate, and solicit high-net-worth individuals (HNWI) —including through Donor Advised Funds, Family Offices, Family Foundations, and other giving vehicles—with an immediate focus on the US, UK and Europe. 

• Prospecting and donor acquisition. Manage HNWI prospecting, generate new leads, develop solicitation plans, brief senior leadership in advance of meetings, and coordinate cultivation and networking opportunities.

• Stewardship and relationship management. Build strong relationships with existing and potential donors through tailored stewardship plans designed to grow income over time. Manage donor tracking and communication systems. 

• Nurture and grow our development board - Work alongside our director of development and CEO to identify and engage members and steward the Board through a 12-month action-orientated development campaign. 

• Budget Management. Manage a programme budget for cultivation and stewardship events and activities.

• Collaboration and Communication. Work closely with our communications coordinator, director of development and programme teams in the production and dissemination of donor-relevant reports, updates and other content; and contribute to the conception and organisation of donor-facing online and in-person events.

• Team support. As a key member of our development and communications team, undertaken other duties as reasonably requested relevant to team and organisational goals. 

Person specification 

Essential 

• You will have extensive experience managing a HNWI or major gift portfolio. 

• You will have a proven track-record of personally securing four, five, or six-figure donations from HNWI and/or major gift donors in the UK, US and/or Europe. 

• You will have experience working within a nonprofit focused on human rights, social justice, and/or environmental action. 

• You will have excellent verbal communication skills, including English language skills, both spoken and written. 

• You will have experience working with senior stakeholders and board members to support fundraising activities. 

• You will have an ability to work both strategically and operationally.

• You will have creative thinking and problem-solving aptitude.

Desirable

• You may have experience working within a global nonprofit. 

• You may have knowledge of the human rights, social justice, environmental justice, and/or international development funding landscape. 

• You may understand grant-making and grant-management processes, especially with respect to private philanthropic funding, including family foundations, DAFs, and Family Offices. 

• You may understand tax-efficient donation mechanisms in the UK, US, and across Europe. 

• You may understand the trends in dynastic giving as well as emerging and next-generation philanthropists.

Terms and remuneration

This is a remote, home-working role. You will be contracted for 40 hours a week on a full-time, fixed-term contract. Flexible working is available and encouraged.
