The Bike Project is fortunate to be supported by a wide range of Trusts & Foundations, Major Donors and Corporates as well as many committed members of the public. In 2023, we took the decision to consolidate and bring in-house our fundraising activity. Over the past twelve months we have worked hard to ensure that we create a virtuous circle in our fundraising and engagement activity, for example, looking at how our corporate partners can engage their employees to support our work.

This is a new role which will lead on major donor fundraising and development of corporate partnerships and earned income through an in-house employee servicing and team away-day offer. As the charity moves forward, it is critical that we strengthen and diversify our unrestricted income streams and this is an exciting opportunity to shape a key are of fundraising that will contribute to that goal and the future sustainability of our charity.  

This role will work closely with the Chief Executive, Head of Marketing and Fundraising and Head of Grants and Impact on a shared approach to fundraising. We work in a joined-up way to ensure that we take full advantage of every opportunity to maximise benefit for our bike recipients. In particular, you will work closely with the Chief Executive to manage some of our most significant relationships, ensuring that our donors and partners are well looked-after, kept up to date on our activities and understand the impact of their support. 

Being a small charity, we work in an agile manner which allows for creative ideas to flourish and new ideas to be implemented quickly. We hold donation sessions weekly out of our London and Birmingham workshops, so there is opportunity to see the impact of your work first hand.

The Talent Set is delighted to be working in partnership with Mary's Meals UK as they recruit for this exciting new Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships role, established with investment in the Major Giving and Partnerships team due to the significant growth and success they have achieved in recent years. 

As Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships you will focus on major donor, mid value and corporate fundraising. You will lead the team to develop new and existing relationships with individuals/partners who are able to contribute significant funds to the organisation, while working closely with the Head of Institutional Giving & Partnerships to identify audience crossover and maximise the potential of high value fundraising opportunities. 

This role will lead the team in fostering a relationship-led approach to fundraising, strategising for major donor and corporate fundraising whilst remaining operationally hands on and networking/influencing to establish new connections and opportunities for the organisation. As part of the Extended Leadership Team (ELT), you will also feed into organisational strategy and leadership, ensuring all work is delivered in line with Mary's Meals values. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and implementation of the philanthropic and corporate fundraising strategies, working alongside the Head of Institutional Giving & Partnerships to develop an overarching departmental strategy that allows for close collaboration;
• Proactively identify new prospects/supporters, securing mid/major donor support and corporate income in line with team income targets;
• Foster a culture of relationship-led fundraising, focused on stewardship and retention of existing donors that allows for long-term, increasing levels of support;
• Provide strategic leadership to the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team (4), supporting professional development and a culture of learning/collaboration.

We are seeking an experienced fundraiser who is enthusiastic about helping us to achieve our ambition to scale by growing our income and supporters. 

This is a new role, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape our strategy across all funding streams.  As a small charity, we are looking for someone that will bring extensive knowledge about fundraising and managing the operational aspects of the role, e.g. CRM management and compliance, to help us increase income and cultivate supporters.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Develop, deliver and monitor the fundraising strategy for the Charity

• Establish a process for active stewardship 

• Day to day management of income targets and ensuring a healthy pipeline

• Work with the CEO to ensure fundraising targets are met and manage an effective pipeline across different income streams: corporates, trusts & foundations and individual giving.

• Research and drive new opportunities for multi-year commitments from trusts and foundations

• Source and nurture corporate supporters – both corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sponsorship

• Work with the wider team to develop a consistent approach to our individual funding ask from alumni.

• Lead on the preparation and submission of high-quality, effective applications and report on grants awarded.

• Create a programme of cultivation events which nurture existing partnership relationships and underpin the creation of new ones.

• Oversee the development of inspiring digital content and collateral to attract new and retain funders and fundraisers to the charity.

• Ensure accurate record-keeping of corporate partnerships and relationships in our CRM system. 

• Ensure that our work complies with fundraising best practice, GDPR and other relevant legislation.

Person specification 

This role requires an ambitious, passionate and determined individual with outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You’ll be curious, inclusive, creative, flexible, resilient and have a collaborative working style with a proven ability to work as part of a small team.

You’ll have an excellent understanding of the English language and a keen eye for detail.  You’ll flourish working to deadlines which you will meet because of your exceptional time management and organisational skills. 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate

• At least three years fundraising management experience

• Evidence of alignment with our mission and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

• Lived experience of disabling or marginalising barriers.

• A background in the Corporate and/or Trusts world.

• Experience of developing a fundraising strategy. 

• Excellent planning and project management skills with the capability to switch/prioritise tasks quickly.

• Experience of writing compelling fundraising applications and funder proposals.

• A track record of securing multi-year, five-figure donations.

• Experience of monitoring and reporting against targets and strong budget management skills.

• A thorough knowledge of the relevant fundraising legislation, regulations and financial issues.

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

• Strong IT skills including an understanding of CRM systems.

• Self motivation with an ability to use your initiative.

• That they are resourceful, imaginative and full of creative ideas.

The important stuff 

Salary: from £50,000 dependent on experience

Contract: 12 – 18 months fixed term

Key Responsibilities

National Growth

• Develop strategy for national growth and ensure effective delivery of strategy, with a focus on growing our work in unserved and developing regions of the UK and building a diverse range of church partners
• Engage with thinking around the intersection between social impact, employability and the church to ensure we are at the cutting edge within the sector, developing an understanding of local needs and challenges and how Resurgo can best inspire and equip partners to catalyse sustainable and impactful social change.
• Work with wider leadership team to understand and fine tune barriers to growth, including considering recruitment and operations support needed by partner churches, and funding avenues and the operation of the seed fund, which provides start-up funding to churches in the early years of launching a Spear centre.

Pipeline Development

• Identify, build, and develop relationships with potential partners through networking at Christian conferences and running our own events, identifying and introducing our work to key networks, and offering relevant coaching sessions as a means for churches to understand Resurgo’s coaching, employability and impact management.
• Introduce potential and existing partner churches to the Spear programme as a means of creating sustainable social impact in their community, particularly with young people, and provide opportunities for them to engage with the programme with a view to considering launching a centre in their own community where this is a good fit.
• Build a pipeline of potential Spear partners, and steward these relationships from the point of introduction, through to confirmation of programme launch, reporting to the Senior Leadership team against monthly KPIs and annual growth targets.
• Work closely with the Impact team and Director of External Relations to consider the ‘client’ journey of a church from point of initial interest to uptake of one of our programmes

New Centre Set-up and Implementation

• Oversee a team who project manage the launch of new Spear centres in partnership with local churches, including overseeing all
  practical and operational aspects of the centre setup, recruiting new coaches, and ensuring required policies and systems

Joe’s Buddy Line is seeking a new organisational leader; a hands-on Chief Officer who can build on the great work already undertaken by our Trustees to deliver high impact mental health support services to schools and Universities; currently in London and the South East, but with ambitions to grow across England and Wales.

Joe Lyons was a caring son, brother, a wonderful friend and a talented, award-winning Radio Producer. Known as “Producer Joe”, he became Senior Producer of the Roman Kemp Breakfast Show at Capital Radio. Very sadly in August 2020 Joe passed away in totally unexpected circumstances at just 31 years of age.

During Joe’s life he brought a cheeky spirit and constant laughter to all those that met him. His selflessness and commitment to helping others touched so many, and in loving memory and as a legacy to Joe, his friends and family set up Joe's Buddy Line in January 2021.

We are now looking for a resilient, driven and inspirational individual to provide energy, strategic vision and operational management for our small and growing charity.

The successful candidate will bring a track record of effectively overseeing the day to day service delivery for a small charity, prudent financial management and an innovative approach to source and secure new opportunities for the Charity.

It is essential that the post holder must also be able to help us transition from a predominantly volunteer led charity to a vibrant fully sustainable organisation with salaried staff.
