Job description

Job Purpose

UK for UNHCR (UK4U) is looking for a Data Analyst to analyse our fundraising and marketing data with the objective of presenting clear insights which the wider team can use to make informed decisions. 

This is a new role that will bring in much needed functionality and expertise into the organisation and will oversee the transition of these functions from external providers to bring them in house. Furthermore, the role will act as a key focal point for engaging with international colleagues on global projects relating to fundraising data.

The successful candidate will have experience in working with and analysing data to help inform decision making.  They will be a critical thinker, able to evaluate data, and effectively communicate findings with non-technical colleagues. They will also be adept at learning new technical tools.

United Kingdom for UNHCR is the United Nations Refugee Agency’s national charity partner for the United Kingdom. We generate public awareness of the plight of refugees and raise funds to help protect them through UNHCR’s humanitarian operations across the world.

Our supporters include UK private individuals, communities, corporate partners, trusts and foundations. The funds we raise help UNHCR deliver emergency relief such as shelter, medical care and basic supplies to people fleeing conflict and persecution, as well as healthcare, education and livelihoods opportunities for those who remain displaced over the long term.

Role Responsibilities

  • Complete regular campaign analysis, gathering insights to inform fundraising strategies, identify areas of improvement, and advise on targeting and prompting.
  • Support with the launch of new fundraising products to ensure impact and response can be tracked effectively.
  • Help teams analyse the performance of donor acquisition and retention activities and donor prospecting by creating reports and dashboards that deliver data for real-time decision making.
  • Project manage the transition of outsourced data analysis work to this in house function
  • Proactively identify areas where data analysis can provide solutions and insights across fundraising and communications.
  • Use tools such as Salesforce, Power BI, and Excel to visualise data and create easy-to-understand dashboards.
  • Identify areas and opportunities to optimise giving, in line with charity’s strategic priorities, including data capture, gift aid sign ups and committed giving conversion journeys.
  • Support with supporter experience projects, distilling insights to help improve donor satisfaction and giving journeys.
  • Keep up-to-date with sector trends as well as findings from other national partners to identify and apply useful learnings.
  • Work with third parties and colleagues at HQ to provide data for analysis projects such as benchmarking and lifetime value.
  • Build effective working relations with international colleagues to utilise the investments and expertise in data based initiatives to best effect.
  • Support the Database Manager with developments to our supporter CRM, Salesforce, and data processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Ensure that documentation is created for any new configuration, new reports set-up and integration with third parties.
  • Document new policies and data procedures and training materials
  • Run other reports and analysis as required.

Personal Attributes and Experience


  • Experience of handling and analysing large data sets from multiple sources.
  • Ability to spot trends and patterns and interpreting the meaning behind them.
  • High computer literacy with proven ability to quickly learn new software in order to present data insights using data visualisation tools, such as Power BI / Tableau / Qlikview / QlikSense.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to inclusively communicate statistical and technical findings in an easy-to-understand manner in order that findings are shared effectively with stakeholders.
  • Experience of developing reports, dashboards and KPIs.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail when working with data in order to make accurate conclusions and predictions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong understanding of data protection regulations including the GDPR.
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM products/fundraising databases.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to collaborate with others, with flexible and positive attitude.


  • 3 years of relevant experience using data visualisation tools, such as Power BI.
  • A basic understanding of quantitative data analysis software such as SQL, Visual Basic, R or Python.
  • Experience of or interest in the charity sector, in particular humanitarian response/international development.
  • Knowledge Salesforce CRM including;
    • Experience with Salesforce NPSP (nonprofit cloud)
    • Experience with Sales Cloud and Service Cloud
    • Experience using Salesforce data tools
  • Experience with propensity models and tools
