Job description

The IBD Registry is the first and largest repository of UK IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) data.  There are approx. 500,000 people in the UK with IBD, a chronic disease which can be debilitating, difficult to manage and is still not well understood. Our mission is to provide better understanding based on data, to improve care of and treatments for patients, better information for clinicians and other stakeholders, with the aim throughout of improving outcomes for patients.

We are an independent not-for-profit company, co-owned by the British Society of Gastroenterology, the Royal College of Physicians and the patient organisation Crohn’s and Colitis UK.  Although we are a small organisation we play a big role in improving people’s lives.  We work directly with hospitals, doctors and nurses across the UK; with drug studies, with the NHS, as well as with key Universities in the fields of biostatistics and data analytics.  We are deeply involved in the fast-moving and exciting area of health data, and the technologies that underpin and transform that data.

In pursuit of our mission we have recently partnered with Cambridge University Hospitals and the University of Cambridge on a 3 year/£5million programme to link and make accessible diverse datasets in a Hub for researchers.  This project will involve the FHIR transformation of our existing dataset and linkage of it with the Bioresource IBD dataset and also with the key NHS HES and electronic Prescribing datasets. This is a national project very much at the leading edge, looking to transform the landscape for researchers and the data they need for their work.

More information about our organisation can be found on our website

To support us in our growth journey, we are looking for a motivated and experienced Data and Analytics Manager to lead and drive our work to ensure quality IBD data is available to support our goals in quality improvement, service evaluation, pharmacovigilance / post-marketing surveillance as well as research. You will oversee the effective collection, curation and utilisation of clinical data, surgical data, patient reported outcomes and other relevant data. You will especially play a key role in the transformation and linkage of the IBD datasets required for the Hub.  This is a senior role in our organisation, reshaped to reflect the growing maturity of our data and our role in the Hub, and is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to really develop their career in data.  You’ll get the chance to think innovatively and creatively to help embed new ideas as the programme develops, and shape our organisation as we grow.

We’re looking for someone who wants to make a difference, more than just doing a job. Our ideal candidate has a positive approach coupled with the attention to detail inherent in a data management role. You need to have a can-do attitude and hands-on approach combined with an inbuilt ability to think and express themselves in a structured way, whether it is about data, project planning, or compliance. Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic problem-solver, keen to learn new things, who meets issues with ‘how can I overcome that?’ and unknowns with ‘how can I learn how to do that?’
