This post will play a crucial part in helping the charity to end the ignorance, injustice and neglect experienced by people with M.E., as you will be supporting our fundraisers to maximise income generation and raise awareness. We are looking for an enthusiastic, well organised self-starter with excellent people skills to inspire and support our amazing community fundraisers as they raise funds for our work. You’ll work closely with the Fundraising and Communications teams to coordinate our community fundraising activities, including marathons, bike rides and coffee mornings.

Role Purpose

• To deliver excellent drug and alcohol services to those who use our services and their significant others, including family members friends and carers, to facilitate positive outcomes.
• To manage a case load and coordinate and deliver assessment and evidence-based interventions (brief and structured), recovery planning and aftercare planning.
• To work collaboratively with colleagues and key stakeholder across multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring adherence with all policies and Safeguarding principles.

Key duties and activities of the role

• Provide high quality, person centred, low threshold services, responding to the individual and diverse needs and preferences of those and their significant others.
• Deliver evidence-based psychosocial one-to-one and group interventions as part of an effectively integrated care package and to take an assertive approach to people disengagement.
• Deliver harm reduction advice, guidance and education including the needle & syringe programme delivery, brief and extended recovery interventions, blood borne virus intervention, overdose prevention including naloxone programmes.
• Enable people to access education and employment services and health, wellbeing and recovery support activities and to signpost to other available services.
• Support volunteers, peer mentors and service user representatives to take an active part in services.
• Identify risks and take appropriate action in accordance with local, national and organisational Safeguarding policies.

Job summary

1. To implement and develop The Princess Alexandra Hospitals’ Charity fundraising strategy to maximise charitable funds that will enhance the care for The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust’s patients and people.

2. To develop and fund a charity team and lead on fundraising goals.

3. To develop relationships with, and secure financial support from, key high-value prospects, including corporate partners.

4. To establish, build and maintain strong relationships with networks and partnerships in order to maximise fundraising activity.

5. To manage and support all trust charitable fundraising activities including reporting developments and progress to the charitable funds committee.

The Finance Officer will be involved in all aspects of the charity’s financial operations, this is a very broad role. From handling small donations like a child’s pocket money right up to processing large grants.  You will be the first point of call for financial queries and questions arising from our team. You will process purchase and sales invoices, volunteer, and staff expenses.  You will support grant and other fundraising applications, process donations from a variety of different platforms, deal with gift aid and banking. You will need to be an analytical problem solver able to work on your own and as part of our team.

You will have a finance qualification and experience of working in the finance department of a charity.  You will have strong Excel skills and familiarity of dealing with fundraising platforms such as JustGiving.  You will need to form constructive and supportive working relationships with our volunteers and other stakeholders so you will need strong communications skills, excellent numeracy and literacy, the ability to work to deadlines and prioritise your own workload while maintaining a compassionate, professional, and efficient public image for the charity.

The Purpose of the role

The Finance Officer is responsible for the smooth running of all aspects of the financial management of BCFB.

· Provide sound technical and professional advice to the CEO, Board of Trustees, and others.

· Provide a high quality and effective financial service to the charity.

· Prepare, develop and analyse management accounting information.

· Ensure compliance with all relevant financial statutory and regulatory matters.

Key tasks and responsibilities

 Financial Management

Accountancy and Bookkeeping Systems

Maintenance of all accounting records on an ongoing basis to include:

· Manage all income and expenditure processing.

· Maintain and improve bookkeeping and accountancy systems (both computerised and manual) including:

- Bank reconciliations

- Cash flow management

- Income and grant analysis (restricted and designated funds)

- Bank receipts and payments

- Purchase approval and recording processes

Accounts payable

· Process purchase invoices in an accurate and timely manner.

· Respond accurately and efficiently to queries from suppliers and colleagues regarding payments.

· Manage the Finance email inbox ensuring emails are dealt with in a timely manner.

· Ensure Petty cash is available and monitored.

· Process staff expenses, ensuring compliance with policy.

· Access and administer online banking.

· Pay salary and staff costs liaising with our accountants (who administer payroll) regarding any updates/changes.

Accounts Receivable

· Control and Monitoring of restricted funds including detailed records of spend allocation of funds and remaining balance.

· Accurately accounting for all income receipts monthly including donations from individuals and organisations and grants and claiming any appropriate Gift Aid.

Budgets

· Prepare and update annual income and expenditure budget in consultation with the CEO and other officers.

· Monitor the budget against actual and investigate any major variations in budget.

· Involvement in strategic and business planning projections with the CEO and other officers.

Reports

Produce regular management information so that key officers and trustees know how well the charity is performing against its budget. To include:

• Provide regular monthly management financial information (including financial highlights/list of assets/budget against actual/restricted and unrestricted funds/fund movement summary/fund balances/trial balance/balance sheet) for the CEO and Board of Trustees.
• Quarterly financial reports for the Board of Trustees including detailed analysis of income and expenditure.
• Reports on individual activities including Lottery and grants.

• Filing Annual Return to the Charity Commission.
• Assisting with funding reports.

Annual Financial Audit

• Work with BSN, our accountants/auditors to produce the statutory accounts and planning of the year-end audit.

Bank and Treasury Management

• Treasury management in connection with cash and investments held by the charity.
• Manage cash flow to ensure that the level of interest received is as high as possible and that bank charges are kept to a minimum.
• Ensuring Current Account balances are kept at a reasonable level.

Fundraising

· Ensure that the most tax-efficient solution is applied to fundraising income through gift aid and other schemes.

· Assisting with applications for funding ensuring that all grants, sponsorship and donations are paid on time and the financial conditions met.

· Keeping clear records of funding bids, successful bids and spending related to these bids.

Communication and Coordination

• Ensure the efficient circulation of financial information as needed including that required from external advisers e.g., auditors.
• Liaise with and advise the CEO and others as appropriate on all financial matters.
• Liaise with and maintain a good working relationship with bankers, accountants, auditors and donors.
• Liaise and maintain a good working relationship with volunteers, staff and Board of Trustees.
• Attend staff and Trustee meetings as required to provide information and analysis.
• Understand confidentiality in accordance with GDPR.

Professional/Technical

• Keep up to date with financial developments across the sector, changes in requirements for charity reporting and changes in legislation.
• Maintain and monitor the Internal Financial Procedures policy document and make recommendations on best practice, good governance, policies and procedures and implementing same.
• Experience with the software for donations, My Giving online and the accounting package, My Fund Accounting online.  The software is specifically for churches and charities.
• Experience with Just Giving and other online giving platforms in particular claiming Gift Aid.

Administration

· Undertake all finance related administrative tasks ensuring orderly filling of electronic (Sharepoint) and paper documents and preparing for financial audits.

· Prepare the banking.

· Paying in cash and cheques to the bank/post office.

Other

· Contribute to the financial risk assessment.

· Keep abreast of current legislation and practices also, best practices with peer organisations and preparing reports and recommending procedures for BCFB.

Overall role of the Network Coordinator

The Network Coordinator is part of a small team comprising of the Director, Head of Policy, Network Coordinator, Communications and Policy Assistant and volunteers.

The Network Coordinator role lies at the heart of the network ensuring it functions efficiently while leading our activities to support our members in their work on gender equality and women’s rights.  They work alongside women’s rights advocates and practitioners across a range of issues within the international development sector, while ensuring that the organisation runs smoothly.

Specifically, the role is to:

• Manage the network’s finances and funding processes
• Manage the administration of the Secretariat
• Coordinate support to the network’s members
• Coordinate support for the different branches of the network

Specific Tasks

1. Manage the network’s finances and funding processes

• Oversee the management of TAC’s marketing and communications functions, including our public relations, website and social media accounts, ensuring that they are updated, relevant and archived appropriately.

Impact

• Lead on development and delivery of the organisation’s strategic Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact framework and associated plans and systems
• Develop and delivering TAC’s social purpose agenda, ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives.
• Oversee the development and management of TAC’s archives, be it digital, documental or physical, ensuring that they are catalogued, accessible and available for utilisation as a key resource.

Operational

• Line manage the programme, education and engagement team(s), recruiting, as necessary, skilled persons to deliver TAC programmes.
• Manage the delivery of contracts and partnership collaborative efforts, ensuring that contracting is delivered to the highest standards at all times to protect the reputation and financial standing of the charity and to meet contractor’s expectations.
• Identify potential funders relevant to area and contribute to writing business plans demonstrating a seamless relationship between content, programmes, events, audiences, and the core business activities
• Support the work of the Director of Development Team in developing and delivering the fundraising strategy and the Director of Finance & Operations on delivering TAC financial plans

Governance & Compliance

• Write reports for the board as and when required by the CEO in a timely and appropriate manner
• Work with the Director of Finance & Ops to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the charity in delegated budget area(s), adhere to TAC Financial Regulations and Procurement Policy.
• Ensure that all artist contracting is undertaken within TAC procurements and contracting policies observing all other required policies and statutory guidelines e.g., Equalities, Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Intellectual Property, GDPR, Finance and Procurements etc.
• Maintain accurate records on The Africa Centre’s document management system and databases.
• Respond to general enquiries by email or telephone, manage own workload and maintain an online diary, using agreed TAC systems.
• To promote and comply with current legislation including The Africa Centre policies on Equality and Diversity and Health & Safety, Safeguarding, in the delivery of services and the

Leadership

• Be a vital, collegiate member of the TAC Senior leadership team,
• Develop and nurture relationships with the TAC Board, managing relevant committees and reporting to the Board and sub-committees as required.
• Represent the organisation at appropriate internal and external events and meetings, locally, regionally and globally.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

• A clearly-evidenced long-standing passion for Africa and people of African Descent
• 3 - 5 years working at a senior level in a similar role
• Excellent Programme Management experience with excellent budget management skills
• Excellent communication and networking skills, adept at effectively engaging people across a range of settings – from school children to Prime Ministers and Presidents;
• Educated to degree level of equivalent (relevant subject area)
• Team player, able to work cross disciplinary with artists, experts, academics, key stakeholders, and audiences in a programming function working with diverse audiences
• Specialist knowledge of audience development gained through 3 years’ experience
• Agile approach to work, recognising the limitations and challenges of running a small charitable organisation and willingness to work flexibly to get things done, apply effort and integrity at all times. Regular weekend and evening work will be required.
• Experience of working with an operations team to deliver events (production, tech requirements, artist management)
• Experience of delivering to funder obligations (Trusts and Foundations/Public and Private Funding) • Excellent network in publishing; cultural and creative sector; or other relevant sectors
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, et al.

Desirable

• Understanding and experience of digital content production
• Masters level qualification or equivalent
• Awareness of how to use emerging technologies including AI to develop impactful programming and engagement.
• Experience of working within a grant management organisation.
• Experience of positive action activity to deliver inclusive Programmes (equalities, diversity, inclusion, and access)

Work Arrangements

Location: The Africa Centre office, London. Occasional remote working is encouraged. The post-holder will be required to be on location in London for relevant activities. Some international travel will be required.

Responsible for: Programme Managers (x 2 - 3), freelance workers, volunteers

Hours of work: Full time. 35 hours per week. The post holder will be expected to be flexible and there will be requirements to work such days and hours that may vary in accordance with business requirements, including regular evenings and weekends and occasional holiday periods.

Holidays: 25 days per year, plus Christmas shutdown (3 days) and public holidays

Join Our Team – Support Worker (unpaid carers)

We're looking for a Support Worker to join our friendly team. You will cover West Essex (Harlow, Epping & Uttlesford), playing a pivotal role in supporting unpaid family carers who look after someone due to their age, disability, long-term physical or mental health condition or an addiction. You will support carers to manage the practicalities related to their caring roles and navigate support systems, alongside maintaining their own wellbeing.  You will provide carers with appropriate information, advice and guidance, from accessing benefits, peer support or respite breaks. You will mainly work in the community as well as from our offices or home.
