About Action for ME

Action for ME is the only charity in the UK providing support, including healthcare, to people of all ages affected by ME. The charity was founded by Sue Finlay in 1987 and since then has been taking holistic approach so we can make an impact on multiple fronts - from amplifying the voices of people affected by ME in Government and leading on breakthrough research, to providing "lifeline" support and unique healthcare services on a daily basis.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), sometimes referred to and diagnosed as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), is a chronic, fluctuating disease, causing symptoms such as post-exertional malaise (PEM), sleep problems, problems with thinking and memory (brain fog), pain and crushing fatigue. There are an estimated 1.3 million people living with ME or ME-like symptoms, including PEM, in the UK alone.

Even in its so-called mildest form, ME can have a significant impact on an individual’s life, and not just on their health. A lack of understanding and awareness about ME means patients can experience disbelief, and even discrimination, from friends, family, health and social care professionals, employers and teachers.

For the first time there is an increased awareness of post viral illness because of the Covid -19 pandemic. After decades of neglect this offers Action for ME an opportunity to accelerate our work for people with ME in a way we have never been able to do before. The intent of everything we do is to pursue positive impact for the lives, rights, and futures of people affected by ME.

Job purpose

This role will deliver an exceptional supporter experience to our donors, building and maintaining strong relationships with our supporters. Working closely with other members of the fundraising and communications teams, you will deliver our supporter journey, maintain regular communication with donors and be an integral part of our fundraising campaigns and appeals.

Key duties

• Work with the Fundraising Operations Manager to deliver our supporter journey, engaging current and prospective donors with our work and giving them an excellent experience of supporting Action for ME.
• Be responsible for creating the methods that ensure each supporter relationship is maximised, increasing retention rates for a growing supporter base. As such you will be required to engage with supporters so that they feel valued, and relationships can be developed further for the benefit of the charity.
• Lead on thanking donors, including making phone calls to donors as part of stewardship.
• Work closely with the Fundraising Operations Manager and the team to support the growth of income streams, including but not limited to, individual giving, Gift Aid, legacies, trading, community fundraising and membership.
• Work with the communications team on the delivery of digital communications, including social media and e-communications for a diverse range of audiences.
• Play a key role in fundraising appeals and campaigns including our yearly Big Give Christmas Challenge, Summer Appeal, Thanking Campaign and any other fundraising initiative or project as directed by the Fundraising Operations Manager or Director of Fundraising.
• Ensure excellent supporter care and maintenance of accurate database records.
• Create inspiring donor communications, including stories and impact from our wider work (support & healthcare services, research and policy work)
• Work closely with the Philanthropy Manager to identify potential major donors.
• Develop innovative and creative ways of widening our supporter base and increasing donations.

• To attend and contribute constructively to team meetings and other meetings as required.
• Supervise fundraising volunteers as required.

ROLE DESCRIPTION  

As Finance and Operations officer, you will report to the Operations and Systems Manager and will be a key member of the Operations team. This role is vital to the support of the wider organisation, being the go-to person for financial, HR and IT enquiries. 

In this role at Get Further, you’ll have the opportunity to build on your operational experience within a dynamic and mission-driven charity. No two days are the same, you'll play a key role in supporting day-to-day operations while contributing to a range of projects that help drive our work forward. Finance Administration 

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping using Xero, including importing and coding invoices for approval, raising sales invoices, and supporting bank reconciliation. 
• Prepare and issue contracts and invoices for colleges, freelancers, and central team members. 
• Manage credit control by coordinating weekly payment runs and liaising with debtors to ensure timely payment. 
• Prepare monthly payroll submissions, including reconciling tutor hours, holiday pay and training.

HR and Policy Administration

• Onboard new starters, conducting all pre-employment checks, organising computers and equipment, arranging access to systems etc. 
• Managing reference requests for past tutors. 

IT and Equipment management 

• Support the Operations & Systems Manager in maintaining oversight of IT hardware, phones, and other equipment – including managing logistics and phasing out older kit. 
• Act as the first point of contact for the team on IT matters, liaising with our external IT provider and tracking outstanding tasks and support hours used. 

Office tasks  

• Liaise with the Charity we share offices with regarding office facilities and help maintain office supplies and equipment levels. 
• Manage keyholder records, ensuring an accurate log of staff with key and fob access to the office. 

General Administration 

• Monitor and respond to shared mailboxes, ensuring timely and appropriate handling of enquiries or redirecting them as needed. 
• Provide additional programme support where required – including booking conferences and ordering printed materials or resources. 
• Respond to internal queries and offer cross-team support on financial, HR, and IT matters.

We are looking for someone to join our Safeguarding Team as a Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) on a 12-month fixed term contract as maternity cover.

Hours: 35 Hours  

Salary: £43,824.25 - £51,279.38 (Dependent on experience)

The role of Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor is; 

• To manage allegations of abuse and provide support as appropriate
• To support victims and survivors of abuse 
• Progress cases to their full conclusion within the time frame stipulated by the Director of Safeguarding
• Support the triage of incoming safeguarding cases 
• Collate information regarding disclosures of abuse, allegations or concerns 
• Complete comprehensive risk assessments on individuals who pose a risk in the church context
• Prepare comprehensive safety plans for individuals who pose a risk in the church context
• Keep all case files up to date by accurately and consistently recording actions taken on cases using the Diocese case management system
• To actively liaise with relevant agencies, for example, police, probation services, and local authorities
• To ensure known offenders within (or returning to) the church community are appropriately managed and supported by the church

The successful candidate must;

Have extensive experience working in a safeguarding context: in a health, police, local authority or probation setting. There is flexibility in background, and we ask applicants to fully expand on this in their application when addressing their suitability for the role.

Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience of front-line child protection intervention and/or risk assessment of adult perpetrators, and application of risk assessment.

The package includes a competitive salary, flexi-time scheme, reimbursement of travelling expenses, an 8% non-contributory pension with an additional 5% matched contributions, hybrid working (50%), and 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays and four customary days a year (between Christmas and New Year).

This new role will focus on driving business development and fundraising opportunities, and ensuring robust contract administration across METRO's HIV services. Reporting to the Head of HIV or Director of Services, the Senior Manager (HIV Services): Business Development and Team Coordination plays a vital role in strengthening the sustainability and effectiveness of METRO's HIV services.

The post holder will support the development of funding proposals and bids, build and maintain relationships with funders, commissioners, and partners, and contribute to fundraising activity to secure the future of HIV services. Alongside this, the post holder will provide hands-on support to the team with contract management, producing high-quality data-led reports, monitoring outcomes, and ensuring compliance with funder requirements.

This role acts as a bridge between delivery teams and METRO's leadership, being part of its Senior Management Team (SMT), and enabling services to thrive by ensuring contracts are well-managed, reports are accurate and timely, and opportunities for growth and sustainability are actively pursued.

Programme

METRO runs various HIV prevention and support services across London and the Southeast. These services include pan London and local HIV prevention services, HIV support services including advice and advocacy and family support, HIV peer mentoring and counselling services. Many of these services are delivered in partnership with agencies such as the GMIPartnership consisting of Spectra, Positive East, and our collaborations with THT, Positively UK and Africa Advocacy Foundation. Our services are also embedded in other sexual health partnerships, such as the SASH programme, which consists of our partnerships with Turning Point, London Friend and Naz. We also work with several NHS Trusts as part of our work with the London HIV Fast Track Cities programme and wider programmes.

Main purpose of post
To provide high-level, confidential administrative and strategic support to the
CEO and Deputy CEO, enabling them to focus on leadership priorities by
managing their schedule, communications, and key relationships—while also
supporting governance functions and ensuring smooth coordination with the
Board of Trustees and senior leadership team.
Co-ordinate and service all Board of Trustee meetings and committees to ensure
the charity is effectively governed. You will provide support to the Trustees as
required.

Support the Senior Leadership Team by co-ordinating and servicing meetings,

Key Responsibilities

Executive Support:
 Provide proactive administrative and strategic support to the CEO and
Deputy CEO, including diary management, meeting coordination, and

 Coordinate travel, event attendance, and speaking engagements for the

governance documentation.

Stakeholder Engagement:
 Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the CEO in a
professional and timely manner.
 Support the planning and execution of high-profile meetings and events
involving funders, partners, and supporters.

Office and Project Support:
 Assist in the delivery and tracking of cross-organisational projects led by
the CEO.
 Coordinate Leadership meetings including preparing agendas, papers
and monitoring progress against the annual plan
 Coordinate the reporting from strategic working groups to monitor
progresses against objectives
 Coordinate and prepare assurance documents including the Risk
Register, CEO report and regulatory or compliance documents, as
required
 Provide occasional support to the senior management team, as required
