What does an Individual Giving Officer do? 

To support the planning, project management and delivery of a full programme of Individual Giving acquisition campaigns and appeals to optimise response rates and lifetime value potential of donors and members.  Working closely with the Data & Insights Manager you’ll gather and interpret the necessary insights to support campaign and appeal planning and will work closely with Marketing colleagues to ensure the delivery of campaigns and appeals across multiple channels.
 

Overview of main duties and responsibilities

•Model the Society’s values - Commitment, Compassionate, Professional and Expert - in your leadership approach to drive a high performing culture, high employee and volunteer engagement through effective communication, and by giving and receiving regular feedback 
•Work closely with colleagues and partners to deliver and monitor an effective Individual Giving plans and programmes, including: 
          o        Membership acquisition activities, including supporting the management of third-party acquisition agencies 
          o        Campaigns and appeals, including urgent or emergency appeals 
•Responsible for monitoring and tracking related expenditure 
•Provide support to the Supporter Experience Manager and Stewardship Officer to design and implement appropriate and effective supporter journeys for new members and supporters 
•Work closely with the Data & Insights Manager to ensure campaigns and appeals are insight-led. 
•Support the Marketing and Communications team to develop and optimise campaigns and appeals. 
•Work collaboratively on all Individual Giving products and propositions, ensuring alignment with brand and key messages 
•Manage relevant relationships with partners and suppliers to ensure effective use of budget and alignment with strategic objectives. 
•Adhere to all fundraising regulation and best practice guidance, identifying areas of development and contribute to the Fundraising Team’s ongoing pursuit of excellence 
•Develop relationships with Operations colleagues to support the collection of appropriate campaign, appeal and stewardship stories and content.

We are recruiting a General Advice Officer to support with the delivery of advice and welfare support to vulnerable guests who access the Community Wellbeing Service, a local support hub offering relief from the rising cost of living for local families. Turn2us is a national charity tackling financial insecurity and its structural causes. We work with co-producers and partners to provide people in financial crisis with the means and agency to get back on their feet, build resilience, move forward with their lives and thrive.

Turn2us and its partners have secured £1.5 million from The National Lottery Community Fund to deliver an ambitious and innovative new programme that will support charities in England and Scotland to empower diverse and marginalised communities to respond to climate change and to get their voices heard in environmental policy and media debates.It will focus on Disabled people, those facing financial insecurity and people from ethnic minority communities. These voices are often the least heard from in national and local debates on our environment. This new work aims to change that.

As part of this programme, The National Lottery Community Fund have funded the creation of an Engagement Manager post at Turn2us to work with those facing financial insecurity. The Engagement Manager employed by Turn2us will deliver activity with smaller charities and grassroots organisations supporting those facing financial insecurity that:

• Increases awareness of the impact of environmental change and related policy on different communities 
• Listens to people in these communities to find out what actions they want charities and local government to take
• Develops shared local environmental policy priorities and empowers these organisations to advocate directly to local and national policy makers
• Identifies actions that these organisations can take to support communities to respond to climate change, and helps organisations to implement them
• Identifies people with lived experience to receive hands on training in order to act as diverse champions to media and policy makers

About the role
To provide management information and insight across Shelter, through the design and development of datasets, reports and systems using Microsoft Power BI and other tools.

To develop business intelligence reports and dashboards based on Shelters performance framework supporting an empowered self-service environment for colleagues.

About you
To succeed, you’ll need proven experience of analysing, interpreting and presenting datasets using PowerBI and working with CRMs and other systems. You’ll also need excellent Excel skills and familiarity with database structures such as SQL. Comfortable working with colleagues at all levels across an organisation, you enjoy nothing more than collating, analysing and disseminating business intelligence or helping others develop intelligence from reports and dashboards. What’s more, you’re keen to get involved in a variety of projects as part of a strategic programme aimed at improving the way we work.

About the team
Part of our Strategy Enablement Directorate, the Data & Insight Team delivers high quality data and database management, administrative services and business insight to the department and other teams across Shelter. Custodians of supporter data for its full life cycle, running through everything we do is a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of data quality and embedding a culture of standards, both in terms of compliance and best practice across the department. We work closely with the wider team including our Head of Data and Insight, Data Architects, Data Engineers and Insight Analysts to help Shelter achieve its organisational strategy in helping the fight to end homelessness.

As our Marketing Manager - Mass Fundraising Acquisition (Legacy), you’ll be responsible for leading an in-house team of marketers responsible for driving mass, new customer acquisition across a portfolio of fundraising products/activities. This includes our integrated mass marketing campaigns, Legacy lead generation acquisition and specific Legacy conversion activity, via promoting our Free Will Service.

Working with our media agency and third-party agency suppliers, you'll be responsible for the development, execution, and optimisation of multi-million pound, omni-channel marketing, and fundraising campaigns and marcomms within the overall British Heart Foundation (BHF) integrated media plan. You'll have oversight across a portfolio of fundraising activity, ensuring strategic and tactical delivery and optimisation, to deliver transformative customer experiences and drive growth in support and income through mass customer acquisition.

In this role, you'll put the customer at the heart, ensuring they feel central to our work and achievements and motivated to continue funding our research in the long-term.

About you 

As our ideal candidate, you'll bring extensive and demonstrable marketing experience of designing, developing, and managing integrated, multi-channel marketing plans and delivering successful commercial outcomes through these i.e., across new customer acquisition and fundraising/income growth.

Preferably with knowledge of Legacy Marketing, you will have excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record of success in a fast-moving, effective marketing team, experience in paid media planning, and optimisation within, and across a full range of ATL channels.

Highly numerate, with excellent planning and project management skills, you'll have evidenced experience of marketing including a full understanding of different marketing approaches and an ability to use marketing to secure support across a broad range of channels.

To be successful in the role you will also have:

• Strong analytical skills, able to manipulate and analyse data across a variety of media to optimise integration performance and engagement
• Experience of managing significant expenditure budgets, interpreting financial information and providing reporting and analysis, as well as risk identification and risk mitigation against financial and non-financial objectives
• Previous leadership and line management experience
• Experience of agency partnership management
• Knowledge and experience of fundraising or relationship databases is highly desirable

Working arrangements

This is a fixed term contract until Dec 2025 covering a secondment.

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London Office, approximately 1-2 days per week
