Following a promotion, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is hiring for a Research Officer is responsible for ensuring charitable funding supports the highest quality projects within our funding priority areas of: research; patient and family experience; technology and medical equipment; hospital staff support; education; and environment (through supporting redevelopment projects and capital builds).
Salary
The salary for this position is £31,935 per annum and we operate a hybrid working policy of a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.
In line with our EDI strategy and Total Reward policy, we calculate our salaries based on benchmarking data across the charity sector. To ensure fairness for existing staff and new joiners, we do not offer salaries above the advertised rate.
Key Responsibilities
Research grant management
- Managing the delivery of GOSH Charity’s response-mode funding schemes, including our National Research Project Grant and ‘Lift Off’ pilot study funding call and others.
- Supporting potential applicants via email, phone or in person to ensure we receive high quality grant applications.
- Processing, reviewing and validating grant applications.
- Leading the peer review process using our Grant Management System.
- Project managing the delivery of the Research Assessment Panel.
- Supporting the input of patient and public voice, to ensure they’re built into our research funding decision making.
Committee management
- Providing operational and secretariat support to the Research Assessment Panel and Lift Off Scientific Assessment Panels, and other expert research review panels as required.
- Managing agendas and meeting logistics, including face to face meetings as they are arranged.
- Preparing papers and reports, and collating these from across the team for delivery to the Committee in good time.
- Preparing high quality minutes that provide a clear record of discussions, decisions, and actions, and disseminating these following internal and Chair approval.
- Support the regular review of the Committee membership and tenure.
- Evaluating and recommending improvement and applying sector best practice to the Committee operations.
- Being a first point of call for Committee members, supporting them to deliver their role and ensuring they have a good experience working with GOSH Charity

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Previous experience working in grants management or within relevant scientific research.
- Knowledge of research principles and the UK research funding environment.
- Sound knowledge of paediatric research or similar discipline.
- Demonstrate experience of research quality assessments, including peer review.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Strong relationship builder, with the ability to network in the scientific, clinical and research communities.
- Either an undergraduate degree in a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.

Overview of the Philanthropy Manager role and the team
Barnabas Aid is seeking a proactive and experienced Philanthropy Manager to join our International Outreach team. This new role is integral to ensuring the growth and sustainability of our work through regular or one time organisational and personal donations. The Philanthropy Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive strategy in support of this, targeting potential supporters who wish to leave a lasting impact through Barnabas’ work. The role will involve cultivating relationships with current and prospective organisational and private UK based and international supporters, overseeing communications and marketing strategies, and ensuring that Barnabas Aid’s fund raising programme is promoted effectively across all channels.
As part of a dynamic fundraising team, the Philanthropy Manager will work closely with the Head of Campaigns, the Living Streams Officer, and the Head of Communications. The role will also involve engagement with donors, ensuring that Barnabas Aid is at the forefront of supporters' minds when it comes to making donations or leaving a legacy for future generations of Christians in need.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Fund Raising Strategy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive donation, legacy marketing and stewardship strategy, with the aim of increasing the number of organisational, regular and one-off individual donations in addition to legacy gifts to Barnabas Aid.
- Adherence to the Code of Fundraising Practice within this strategy.
- Fund Raising Marketing:
- Create and execute marketing campaigns that inspire organisations and supporters to consider making one off or regular donations to Barnabas Aid. This will include writing promotional materials, organising events, and developing digital campaigns to raise awareness of the variety of ways of making donations and legacy giving.
- Donor Stewardship:
- Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective donors, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated.
- Provide regular updates and tailored communications to supporters to ensure long-term engagement and support.
- Engagement & Retention:
- Work to retain donors by developing a robust stewardship programme that encourages ongoing involvement and loyalty.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Head of Campaigns and the communications team to ensure that the fund raising programme is integrated into wider campaigns and communications strategies.
- Reporting & Tracking:
- Maintain accurate records of gifts and supporters, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations eg The Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice, charity law etc.
- Report on campaign outcomes, analysing data to identify trends and optimise future strategies.
- Promote Donor Giving:
- Represent Barnabas Aid at events, meetings, and speaking opportunities to promote the many different ways to donate and build awareness within all supporter communities.
- Target Achievement:
- Set and achieve specific targets for the acquisition of new gifts and be a key player in meeting the overall goals for Barnabas Aid.
- Collaboration with Regional Offices:
- Work with the National Directors of our Regional Offices worldwide to promote donor giving in different geographical areas and ensure strategies are relevant to regional contexts.
- Training & Development:
- Provide training and resources to staff and volunteers to ensure the fund raising message is communicated consistently across the organisation.

Knowledge , Skills and Experience
Essential
- Fundraising Expertise:
- Proven experience in developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies, ideally within a (faith-based)charity or not-for-profit environment.
- Campaign Management:
- Strong background in developing, planning, executing, and measuring marketing campaigns across multiple platforms, including print, digital, and face-to-face engagement.
- Demonstrable success in increasing donations
o Experience in major donor relations, or planned and unplanned giving campaigns.
- Relationship Building:
- Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in building long-term relationships with high-value and individual donors, including legacy supporters.
- Data Management:
- Strong organisational and data management skills, with experience using CRM systems to track supporters, donors and gifts.
- Strategic Thinking:
- Ability to think strategically, develop long-term plans for on going income, and adjust tactics as needed to meet targets.
- Communications Skills:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling appeals and impact stories.
o Sound judgement and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Legal and Regulatory Issues:
- Understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements related to all donations including legacy giving - working with wills, estates and legal professionals, whilst ensuring compliance at all stages of the process.

o A personal commitment to the Christian faith is essential, as this is an occupational requirement.

BACKGROUND
Ashiana is a ‘by and for’ women's led BME VAWG service with 30 years’ experience in delivering a holistic range of specialist services to South Asian, Turkish and Middle Eastern women affected by VAWG.
OUR SERVICES
Ashiana runs three refuges with a total of 29 bedspaces; specifically for women aged 16-35 fleeing forced marriage. This multi award winning project is the only service of its kind in the UK and is highly innovative in terms of addressing an area of significant need not met in other refuge provision. Within these refuges we designate a number of bedspaces for women with no recourse to public funds. We offer an advice and support service to women and girls who are experiencing VAWG, enabling them to make informed decisions and exit violent relationships. We provide a legal service supporting women with no recourse to public funds to help resolve their immigration status.
Counselling is offered for women and girls affected by VAWG. The counselling service works from an integrative stance, with the focus of providing a holistic service whereby we also work alongside other services and provide specialist domestic violence group work. The emphasis of therapeutic work with our clients is from a trauma informed model.
We also deliver an education programme for young people in secondary schools in East London aimed at preventing domestic violence and enabling young people experiencing domestic violence to access appropriate services. The prevention service includes delivering a whole school approach in schools to young people as well as group work to women and girls across North East London boroughs as well as community engagement activities and delivery. We deliver a range of awareness raising workshops for young people in the community and training on domestic violence for professionals in the voluntary and statutory sector.
PRIMARY TASK
The post is instrumental in overseeing the delivery of a comprehensive package of services and care for women in our refuges. To provide a safe environment and a service that is appropriate to the needs of young BME women particularly those from South Asian, Turkish and Middle Eastern communities and to support ex-clients following resettlement.
The post holder will have a caseload of clients and be responsible for providing advice, advocacy, casework and support to women and girls, advocating on behalf of these women and making others aware of their particular needs. The post-holder is required to demonstrate sensitivity and an awareness of the culture and needs of minoritised communities in all aspects of their duties and responsibilities.

The Head of Media is responsible for the Spokesperson Network and helping people in NEON’s networks make the most of media opportunities. They lead on strategy, developing high-level media contacts and managing staff associated with the programme.
You will be someone who knows how to land stories and spokespeople in the media, capitalising on media and movement moments to push the conversation in a progressive direction.
