About the role:
As our Dementia Coordinator, you’ll lead the development and coordination of dementia-focused activities, working closely with volunteers, carers, and local partners. Your work will help create a supportive, connected community where people living with dementia feel valued and engaged.

Our Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST)  groups are where group members who are living with dementia and other cognitive impairments can participate in meaningful and stimulating activities, proven to help maintain memory and mental function. The groups provide a fun, supportive environment where people can build new relationships. MCST Activities include discussions, word games, quizzes, physical activities and creative and musical activities.

Our monthly Memory Cafés offers a relaxed, informal setting for people with dementia and their family, friends and carers to get together. The Memory Cafés provides a mixture of talks, information and advice, entertainment and activities

What you’ll do:

• Lead the delivery of our dementia groups including MCST sessions and our Dementia cafes, with support from volunteers.
• Work with the wider team to support your clients in accessing befriending support, social activities beyond the dementia groups and other related services.
• Build strong partnerships with local dementia services across health, social care, and the voluntary sector.
• Use and support the team of existing dementia linked volunteers and develop further recruitment and training as needed.

Main responsibilities

Public Affairs (50% time)

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative individual to establish and lead a community engagement and volunteer programme in an important new visitor attraction in the heart of London. Bevis Marks Synagogue dates back to 1701 and is the oldest synagogue in the UK. You will recruit, motivate and support a team of volunteers and develop a dynamic community engagement programme as part of a small, dedicated team at this special, historic site.

In 2019, Bevis Marks Synagogue received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to restore the synagogue and create The Dangoor Heritage Centre. This project displays and interprets the synagogue’s historic collection for the first time, and enhances visitor facilities. The S&P Sephardi Community established the Bevis Marks Synagogue Heritage Foundation (BMSHF) to manage this project and the site's ongoing visitor operations. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic heritage engagement professional to help make Bevis Marks Synagogue a vibrant place of worship that shares its unique story with a wider community of people of all faiths and none.

Bevis Marks Synagogue, completed in 1701, is the oldest synagogue in the UK and the oldest in continuous use in Europe. Its Grade I listed Wren-style design, well-preserved interior and fittings make it exceptionally historically significant. It is still a working synagogue with a community that has been engaged in the development of the new Dangoor Heritage Centre.

The S&P Sephardi Community’s collection of objects, rich archive, and intangible heritage, such as music and traditions, offer a continuous record of Jewish life in Britain since the mid-seventeenth century. The collection is mainly silver and textiles and many items are of national significance, providing rare insights into the practice of Sephardi Jewish worship, and London’s changing fashions and craftsmanship.

Visitors will be welcomed by volunteers and will explore the synagogue and Dangoor Heritage Centre with the help of an audio guide which includes insightful contributions from a number of members of the Bevis Marks community who have participated in the project. Volunteers will also engage visitors throughout the exhibition areas and support our events programme, shop and catering offer and provide a friendly welcoming experience for a wide range of visitors, from within the UK and abroad.

The construction project is set to be completed by early summer 2025, with the exhibition fit-out over the summer and opening is anticipated in autumn 2025.

Hours: 37 hours a week. Two Sundays per month will be required, along with evening and Bank Holiday working as required by the needs of the business.

We are about to test a minimum viable product (functional prototype) with small sets of global users, and are looking for someone who can lead the iteration process, with the goal of an alpha launch in Climate Week in September.

About the role

You’ll take a user-centred approach to shaping the product, balancing strategic vision with on-the-ground experimentation. You’ll lead, and help to build, a small, agile team, currently a developer, researcher/product designer and data specialists, working closely with a wider team of deliberation specialists, content creators and a strong network of global partners. 

You will play a key role in defining the roadmap, testing features with real-world users and ensuring Assemblis becomes a powerful, trusted tool for citizen-led change.

We are open to full-time or part-time applicants, depending on experience and availability.
 

Main duties

• Lead product delivery: Own the product vision and roadmap, ensuring features meet user needs and align with organisational goals.

• User-centred design: Champion a user-first approach through ongoing testing, feedback loops, and engagement with a diverse global user base.

• Team leadership: Lead and support a small cross-functional team; identify and recruit additional roles as needed.

• Technical direction: Work with developers to make key decisions on technology architecture, infrastructure, and tools, ensuring scalability and sustainability.

• Stakeholder collaboration: Work closely with Iswe’s internal leads to ensure strategic alignment, and global partners (civic groups, movement partners, and research collaborators) to incorporate their needs into the platform.

• Governance and data: Embed deliberative values in product choices, including data ethics, privacy, accessibility, and transparency.

• Business model development: Support the development and testing of a sustainable income-generating model for Assemblis, while ensuring accessibility and alignment with Iswe’s mission.

• Agile processes: Implement lightweight product management processes (e.g. sprints, prioritisation frameworks, documentation) to maintain momentum and clarity.

• Working in the open: Publish regular blog/weeknotes content to communicate about the work to ensure transparency and inspire healthy criticism and collaboration.
   

About you

This role will suit you if you are a decisive leader who is excited by the potential of civic tech to deepen democracy and empower communities. But you must also be a doer - ready to take responsibility for getting things done, while you grow the team. You might come from a digital agency, a startup, a civic organisation, or a product-led nonprofit. What matters most is your ability to lead with empathy, think strategically, and build things that work.
 

Essential skills and experience

• Strong product management experience in digital platforms, tools or services

• Passion for civic technology and democratic innovation

• Good knowledge of the technologies shaping deliberative democracy, such as facilitation tools, decision-making platforms, participatory budgeting systems, emerging AI tools, etc.

• Creative and bold; willing to listen to competing opinions, ask questions and raise healthy challenges 

• Self reflective; able to give and receive feedback well

• Experience managing or collaborating with cross-functional teams

• Excellent communication skills, both internally and externally

• Able to be an ambassador for the product, speaking persuasively to partners and stakeholders

• Ruthless and pragmatic prioritisation and strong project management skills

• Comfortable working in a startup-style environment (adaptable, proactive, solutions-oriented)
   

Desirable skills and experience

• Experience building online tools or platforms

• Experience working with global, multilingual, or underserved communities

• Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design principles

• Understanding of data governance, privacy, and ethics in civic platforms
   

Salary, Benefits & Working Conditions

• Salary:  £55-70k per annum, depending on experience

• Hours: Full-time or part-time (minimum 4 days/week); UK adjacent hours

• Location: Remote (occasional UK in-person meetups)

• Leave: 35 days holiday plus UK bank holidays (pro-rata if part-time); 14 days medical leave

• Pension: Statutory employer contributions (currently 3%)

Role context:

Cord’s turnover is about £2m a year. About 85% of Cord’s funding is restricted, coming from institutional donors like the EU and the US government, and 15% (about £300K) is unrestricted coming from a committed UK supporter base and other private fundraising streams. 

In 2025, Cord operates in eight countries and has offices in Burundi, Myanmar, Laos, & Cambodia. Cord has a global team of thirty people with finance staff across five country teams. 

The Finance Manager role is a newly created role which is being introduced to strengthen the organisation’s financial management and control systems. The postholder will work across the breadth of the finance function preparing internal management accounts and external annual accounts.

In 2024, Cord changed its finance system to use Business Central. The Finance Manager will become the organisation’s main ‘admin’ user of the finance system. In the near-term, there will be a particular focus on rolling out further functionality of the system and developing financial policies and procedures. 

The Finance Manager will have oversight of the UK finance function through the line management of the UK Finance Officer and will directly deliver on the international side of operations in the areas of donor compliance, programme financial management, partner financial monitoring, and reporting. The role will involve travel to international programme locations.

Key Responsibilities:

• To support the Head of Operations to provide finance team leadership, develop and deliver an annual finance workplan to ensure continual improvement, and to drive finance capacity across the organisation
• To ensure the effective financial management of the organisation create and maintain effective financial control
• To be the Business Central Finance System Lead, developing functionality, troubleshooting and capacitating system users
• To ensure financial compliance: prepare statutory accounts, partner compliance, donor compliance and financial reporting

Cord operates a hybrid structure in the UK with most team members working from home attending the admin office in Coventry for team meetings.
