One in 20 adults in the UK has never learnt to read at all. This can have a serious impact on their confidence and wellbeing, limiting access to training, employment, and everyday opportunities that many take for granted. Being unable to read as an adult can be isolating and dangerous, reinforces social inequality, restricts economic growth, and worsens intergenerational disadvantage - but it is never too late to learn.

Read Easy helps adults transform their lives by learning to read. It does this by supporting its growing network of locally run, volunteer-led affiliated groups that offer free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching—both in person and online to adults - aged from 18-88. 

With its free, flexible, confidential approach, Read Easy encourages people who are too embarrassed to join a class to come forward for one-to-one support. Each new reader is provided with their own personal Reading Coach, so that they can learn in private and at their own pace. Learning to read transforms their lives in many other ways as well, including enabling them to support their children’s and grandchildren’s reading, and so transfers the benefits to the next generation.

There are currently 80 affiliated Read Easy groups across England, together involving more than a thousand volunteers. Read Easy UK is the registered charity and umbrella organisation which supports this network of affiliated volunteer groups and provides the structure, training and support to enable volunteers to establish groups in new areas.

As our Central Regional Adviser, your role would be to provide strategic leadership, guidance, and oversight to ensure that all volunteer groups consistently deliver high-quality services aligned with Read Easy UK’s strategy.

You will support local volunteer leaders to strengthen group performance, and foster collaboration across affiliated groups, so that that they deliver coaching to Readers with consistent quality, and a positive and worthwhile experience is had by all.

You will also find volunteers to ‘pioneer’ three new groups in the counties where there is no Read Easy presence in the East and West Midlands and East of England and provide them and our 29 existing groups and pioneers in the region, with high-quality support. Your quality support will ensure that they provide the same for their volunteers and new Readers. From meeting (mostly online) with Team Leaders to provide one to one support, and hosting online and annual in-person volunteer forums, to delivering presentations and occasional training for small groups of volunteers, this is a dynamic and rewarding role.

This is a home-based post requiring flexibility, some early evening working and occasional travel to visit groups. The role is available on either a full or part time basis (min 32 hours p/w, 85% of 37.5 hours p/w FTE).

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Live within one of the following areas: West Midlands (Defined as the 7 metropolitan boroughs of Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, and Wolverhampton), Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire or Rutland;
• have been employed to work with volunteers for at least two years;
• have strong people management and interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills; and the confidence to run meetings and deliver presentations.

This role has been created following the recent announcement of significant new investment, which will support the expansion of the Heritage Revival Fund through to 2030. Gambling Harm UK is recruiting two Regional Public Health Systems Change Leads to support the development and embedding of a public health approach to gambling harm prevention and early intervention across England.

This is a strategic, system facing role rather than a frontline delivery post. You will work with health, social care and wider public sector partners to influence how systems recognise, prioritise and respond to gambling related harms. The role focuses on partnership development, facilitation and implementation support, helping partners adopt evidence-based guidance, reduce stigma and shame, and embed sustainable system responses.

We are excited to have an opportunity for a Safeguarding Manager to join our team at RBL.

This newly created role will be a core part of our recently expanded Safeguarding team who are vital to the work that we do by enabling a robust culture of safeguarding across RBL. This team supports all RBL staff, volunteers and members to recognise and raise all safeguarding concerns to protect our beneficiaries and residents and protect the reputation of the RBL group.

Based in a small team of Safeguarding Managers and leading a team of Officers, this role will see you ensuring that our safeguarding processes and procedures are implemented to support frontline operational teams.

Reporting to our Head of Safeguarding, key responsibilities will include:

- Manage daily safeguarding activities, specifically oversight and control of Officers workloads and capabilities, providing mentoring support, technical advice and guidance
- Oversee and monitor RBL’s safeguarding recording and management system, support referrals and follow up procedures
- Conduct document reviews and research to support trends analysis, provide mentoring, advice and guidance to Heads of Departments and other RBL leaders as required to embed a robust culture of safeguarding
- Review safeguarding incidents ensuring compliance with established and agreed safeguarding processes
- Take responsibility for understanding and complying with statutory and legal requirements across the UK
- Identify and explore opportunities to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders with the aim of extending and improving SG support available to beneficiaries and ensuring this is provided in a coordinated way and to promote a robust culture of safeguarding

You will have demonstrable experience in the field of Safeguarding Adults and Children, with strong knowledge of safeguarding policies, procedures, codes of practice, legislation and governance. The General Manager will provide leadership and day-to-day operational management for the Natural Voice Network, ensuring smooth running of its activities and services. Working under the strategic direction of the Trustee Board, the General Manager will implement decisions, oversee the Administrator, and manage finances and communications at an operational level.

They will have delegated authority to make operational and financial decisions (within agreed limits) on behalf of the NVN and its Trustee Board, enabling trustees to focus on governance, strategy, and long-term development.

Key Responsibilities: 

Operational Management

- Manage the day-to-day running of the NVN, ensuring all activities are delivered efficiently and in line with the organisation’s values and policies.

- Maintain and store confidential documents and archives.

- Work closely with the Administrator to ensure smooth coordination of membership services, communications, and events.

- Support the development and implementation of the NVN’s strategic and annual plans.

- Represent the NVN in meetings and collaborations, acting as a central point of contact for members, partners, and external organisations.

- Assist with the organisation and delivery of NVN events, training, and gatherings (online and in person).

Financial Management

- Manage operational budgets and approve expenditure within agreed limits (e.g. up to £1,000 per transaction or as defined by the Trustee Board).

- Work alongside the Treasurer on financial planning, reporting, and compliance.

- Prepare financial reports, budgets, and forecasts for trustee meetings.

Governance and Reporting

- Ensure systems are in place to support good governance, including accurate records, risk management, and compliance with relevant legislation.

- Prepare reports for the Trustee Board, highlighting progress, challenges, and key decisions.

- Keep policies and procedures up to date and support trustees in implementing policies and procedures, ensuring that staff and volunteers are informed and aligned.

- Oversee preparation of agendas, papers, and minutes for Trustee Board and working group meetings in collaboration with the chair and administrator.

- Manage trustee induction when new trustees are elected onto the Trustee Board.

Staff Supervision

- Line-manage the Administrator, setting clear priorities and providing regular supervision and support.

- Foster a positive, inclusive working culture consistent with the NVN’s ethos.

* This role is predominantly remote but you will be asked to come to our Brighton office few times a year

We are looking for someone who has:

• Qualified to degree level in a relevant field to risk management and compliance.
• Post-graduate and/or professional qualification in a relevant field, including accounting, law, audit, or risk
• Extensive experience of working in a risk management/compliance/assurance function within a sizeable organisation, with strategic and operational accountability.
• Experience of managing and maintaining a risk case management system to ensure appropriate management of issues.
• Experience in developing and managing programme oversight and governance mechanisms that drive consistent approaches and strong performance.
• Experience of rolling out dedicated risk management and compliance training and supporting and guiding staff in developing risk registers and appropriate mitigating actions for risks.
• Experience of contract review and drafting of new clauses for contracts
• Experience of working with international donor rules and requirements and supporting/guiding project teams in managing projects in accordance with these rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of best practice in process review and improvement.
• Senior Experience in setting, reviewing, simplifying organisational policies and procedures and encouraging compliance.
