The Finance Officer will be a new role for The Christie Charity (Charity) and a fantastic opportunity for an individual looking to work for a fast moving, growing organisation. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic self-starter to support the Head of Finance, and Funds and Finance Business Partner with the following:

- The financial management of the Charity’s funds and individually funded projects; and

- The financial control and administration of The Christie Charity group including, but not limited to, The Christie Charity and its two wholly owned subsidiaries (The Christie Trading Company Limited and Northern Pathology Developments Limited).

You will be joining The Christie Charity at an exciting time as we seek to diversify the Charity’s income streams through use of innovative social investments and strategic commercial ventures. Financial management

In relation to the financial management of the Charity’s funds, you will support the Finance and Funds Business Partner in ensuring designated named funds comply with governance requirements and are utilised in accordance with their Terms of Reference. In relation to the financial management of individually funded projects, you will support the Finance and Funds Business Partner in monitoring spend against budgets through accountability mechanisms agreed with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust finance team.

Financial control and administration

You will play a key role in ensuring robust financial control across the Charity group. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for tasks such as ensuring timely and accurate reconciliations are completed and addressing any variances or discrepancies as part of month-end processes or preparing month-end management accounts for review by the Head of Finance. You will be supporting the Charity’s aim of maintaining strong governance across both charitable and commercial operations.

Additional information

The Finance Officer is a newly created role that marks an exciting step in the Charity’s transition toward greater in-house financial management. Previously managed under a service level agreement with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, key aspects of financial management are now being brought into the organisation to strengthen control and governance.

Day-to-day financial transaction processing will continue to be delivered by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust during the initial months of the role, therefore, the postholder will be expected to work closely and collaboratively with their finance team to ensure seamless operations and continuity across the Charity group. These are anticipated to transfer to the Charity group with the postholder taking on a subset of these responsibilities within the first year in post.

This post would suit an individual who enjoys working in a dynamic, evolving environment, where responsibilities may shift in response to organisational priorities. The postholder must be comfortable navigating ambiguity, demonstrating flexibility, initiative, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

The postholder will also provide support to the team on an ad-hoc basis as required and deputise as appropriate.

About the role
We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic, and highly organised Fundraising Officer to support our individual giving, community fundraising, and small trusts and foundations activities. The Fundraising Officer will manage individual and community donor activities, and the donor database to support thanking, stewardship and targeted donor engagement. They will also play a key role in monitoring the impact of our fundraising activity to ensure continuous improvement and income growth.

This is a dynamic, hands-on role for someone who is creative, collaborative, and enjoys working across a diverse range of tasks.  They will be enthusiastic and keen to generate new ideas that strengthen supporter relationships and deliver impactful fundraising.

Main duties and responsibilities

Individual and Community Fundraising

• Work with the Fundraising and Communications Manager and Communications Coordinator to develop and deliver three - four individual giving appeals at year (digital and offline) to increase income.
• Monitor and analyse appeal performance to inform future activity.
• Support wider donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade strategies through data-led insights.
• Work closely with colleagues in communications and service delivery to create compelling fundraising content and impact stories.
•  Act as the main point of contact for community fundraisers and local events, offering guidance, support materials, and encouragement. Work closely with Communications Coordinator where needed.
• Lead on the promotion and recruitment of participants for sponsored challenge events, particularly the Oxford Half Marathon.
• Research charity of the year opportunities amongst school and local businesses and support applications as required.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local community groups, schools and faith communities.
• Confidently represent the organisation at community events and manage a pool of volunteer speakers.
• Use our CRM (Donorfy) to ensure accurate and up-to date relationship management records.  

Donor Stewardship and Prospect Research

• Ensure all donors are thanked promptly and feel valued and engaged.
• Manage and maintain accurate donor data in Donorfy, producing reports on donor activity and performance.
• Monitor and manage fundraising and donation enquiries through our development@ inbox, responding and referring them as appropriate.  
• Research new fundraising prospects and initiatives across individuals, community groups, small trusts, local businesses and other potential supporters. Maintain organised records of prospects and recommendations.

Trusts & Foundations (Small Grants)

• Support the Fundraising and Communications Manager and Trust and Foundations Fundraiser with the small grants pipeline, including prospect research, applications and reporting. 
• Work closely with appropriate staff and service coordinators on project budgets, reporting and planning as needed.

Other responsibilities

• Support and oversee fundraising volunteers and interns as required.
• Work collaboratively within a busy staff team, participate in meetings and planning processes, and contribute to organisational development.
• Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role, as agreed with the Fundraising and Communications Manager or CEO.

• Demonstrable fundraising and supporter-facing experience, with the ability to manage multiple income streams simultaneously.
• Knowledge and experience of individual and community fundraising.

About the Youth Endowment Fund 

We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.

In recent years violent crime has risen significantly. Homicides, assaults, robberies and offences involving weapons have all seen sustained growth. We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children becoming involved in violence. Our mission is to find what works and build a movement to put it into practice. A big part of the movement that we need to build is in the world of youth justice. We need to inspire and connect with youth justice leaders across England and Wales to spread what works and make our country safer for some of our most vulnerable children. We are looking for someone to lead on making this happen.

Key Responsibilities  

We are making good progress building the evidence of what works within and around youth justice to reduce violence. This year, in conjunction with the Centre for Justice Innovation, we published Diversion Practice Guidance and have recently launched our new self-evaluation tool for diversion practice (ORPIC). But the big risk is that we publish these resources and nothing changes. That’s where you come in.

Your role is to work out the best way to make this change happen by getting youth justice services (YJSs) and police forces to adopt evidence-based practice through our new change programme: the Whole Area Model (WAM). WAM helps police forces and youth justice services strengthen diversion practices by aligning their work with the 7 C’s: 

1. Culture – A child-centred, pro-diversion ethos 

1. Contact – Interactions are trauma-informed and maximise prevention and safeguarding opportunities 

1. Custody – Considered use of police custody, prioritising alternatives and swift triage. 

1. Criteria – Clear, consistent eligibility for diversion. 

1. Collaboration – Multi-agency decision-making panels; shared protocols and referral pathways.

1. Care – Evidence-based support, monitoring engagement, closing cases responsibly.

1. Checks – Ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and scrutiny to ensure quality and equity. 

Your role will involve: 

• Supporting the delivery of the Whole Area Model through activities like: 

• Facilitating completions of diversion self-evaluations with youth justice services and police forces. 

• Delivering training to youth justice, police and other relevant agencies about the evidence-base or specific areas of diversionary practice and governance (e.g. scrutiny panels). 

• Supporting the ongoing development of a National Diversion Network, which will contribute to a wider repository of diversion resources and evidence

• Identifying and creating practical resources which help youth justice professionals and police officers to put evidence into practice. 

• Developing great relationships with senior leaders, youth justice workers and police officers, generating a strong understanding of key issues and needs in relation to youth justice matters, and building credibility and trust with the sector.

• Working out other effective ways to connect people with the evidence, then making those things happen, from virtual learning events to presentations. 

As a senior member of staff in the organisation you also: 

• Build a culture where it is natural to perform well and support colleagues brilliantly.

• Contribute to setting the strategy, delivering results and building and modelling the culture that we need to succeed.

About You 

You must have this sort of experience: 

• You’ve changed frontline practice and/or systems:You have significant experience in leading behaviour, practice or policy changes within a youth justice setting. You can show how these have been effective in delivering tangible change.

• You’re working in or around the youth justice service, preferably in a role/setting specifically working with children who are vulnerable to or involved in violence.  

• You work well in multi-agency environments: You have experience collaborating across police, youth justice, local authorities and other partners, and you can communicate confidently with a wide range of stakeholders to build alignment and drive change. 

You might have this sort of experience: 

• Supporting a youth justice team/service to reflect on and adopt evidence-based practice in relation to diversion or wider youth justice activities.

You are this sort of person: 

• You are fascinated about change and are experienced in making it happen. You have outstanding analytical judgment alongside the emotional intelligence and experience needed to identify the right opportunities for change, then make them happen. You understand why people find change difficult. You come alive talking about how people make decisions and why they do the things they do. 

• You understand the youth justice sector and diversion specifically. You really understand how the youth justice sector works, from leaders to frontline officers.

• Identify and pursue new funding opportunities across institutional, philanthropic, and corporate markets.
• Build, manage and cultivate relationships with donors, funders and strategic partners across the humanitarian and development ecosystem.
• Coordinate the end-to-end business development process—from opportunity identification to proposal development and smooth handover into delivery.
• Work collaboratively with teams across SCUK and the international movement, ensuring strong internal alignment and representation of HLA in external forums.

To be successful, it is important that you have:

• Significant experience in institutional and/or philanthropic fundraising, with a proven track record of generating substantial income.
• Strong ability to build partnerships and develop compelling, fundable proposals with clear budgets and value propositions.
• Excellent account management skills with partners and donors across diverse sectors, including governments, institutions, private foundations and corporates such as the Clinton Foundation, Google, AWS, and ECHO, with particular experience in working with FCDO and other institutional donors.
• A solid understanding of the humanitarian system, including funding landscapes, trends, and opportunities.
• Experience managing complex bids and partnerships ideally in excess of £1 million or more.
• Resilience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with the ability to adapt and maintain performance under pressure.

About the role

As our Financial Analysis Manager, you will take a coaching approach to the line management of our five-person team and ensure the team are engaged, motivated and effective, supported to drive their own development and delivers its outcomes.  You will also be expected to produce expert strategic financial analysis, insight and reporting and an excellent user experience for both wider colleagues at Shelter and external stakeholders and to assist the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis in the management of the budgeting and forecasting cycles.

We will also count on you to manage the Financial Analysis team’s work in the monthly reporting cycle and work closely with Financial Control and Operations management on the continual development and improvement of these processes.  Ensuring the Financial Analysis team is effective in reviewing bids for external funding, preparing timely and accurate reports on spending against restricted funds, and supporting budget holders around Shelter in financial management of restricted projects are also key elements of the role.

Role specifics

Influential, analytical and collaborative, you will be a qualified accountant with a proven record of leading a team, and you’re able to work effectively with stakeholders, both internally and externally. A natural communicator, both verbal and written, you will also have excellent time management and prioritisation skills, while a flexible, proactive and professional approach to your work is essential. Strong analytical skills along with impeccable attention to detail, and a high level of numeracy are a must-have for this role. You’ll have strong Excel skills and proficient in the main Microsoft Office Applications, including Outlook and work, and experience of using financial planning software is desirable.

About the team

Shelter’s Finance Team sits within the Strategy Enablement Directorate, which also includes HR Operations, Technology and Data, and Governance, Planning and Property. The Finance Team consists of 32 people led by the Assistant Director of Finance. 

This role sits within the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Team. FP&A produces financial reports and analysis, provides expert advice, and enables collaboration to support effective decision making throughout the charity.

 Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the UK’s biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. For 10 years, it has been transforming the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition through volunteer led Dementia Friends Sessions and tailored resources for organisations. The programme supports individuals and organisations to understand more about dementia and inspires them to take meaningful action to bring help and hope to everyone affected by dementia. The programme is about to embark on a development phase so this is a great time to join the team and bring your expertise and experience.
 
This varied role is all about engaging volunteers, organisations and other internal and external stakeholders with this flagship programme. The role will work across a specified region to recruit, engage, train and support Dementia Friends Ambassadors (DFAs) volunteers. It will support development of new learning resources for programme routes and work with teams across Alzheimer’s Society to support them to use to all programme routes to build relationships and deliver impact.

About you

We are looking for an empathetic and organised volunteer manager who loves to engage and inspire people. You will have experience of managing volunteers, developing resources and delivering training to a wide range of stakeholders both virtually and in person. The Dementia Friends Engagement Officer will work closely with teams across the Society to ensure that the Dementia Friends Programme is integrated into all of the work that Alzheimer’s Society does and is seen as a force for change.  You’ll be a great relationship builder, who’s passion is delivering excellent stewardship and who’s skilled at supporting and influencing multiple stakeholders. You’ll have excellent project management and IT skills including using all Microsoft packages and experience of using a databases to record and report on data.

You will be part of a geographically dispersed team of Dementia Friends Engagement Officers, which sits in the wider Dementia Friends team and supports colleagues across the organisation. You’ll be expected to work autonomously to deliver within your region, but you’ll also have the opportunity to work collaboratively within the team and across the organisation on key projects.
The role will be primarily home based but you will need to be able to travel across your region. There may be some occasions where you need to travel outside of your region.  As the role is home based, this role requires access to your own reliable internet connection and a minimum 10Mb/s broadband.

NSPCC are the UK’s leading children’s charity, committed to ending cruelty to children and ensuring every childhood is safe and supported. They have been working to protect children for over 100 years, providing services, advice, and campaigning for change.

The Financial Accounting & Control Manager will report into the Head of Central Finance and lead a team of four, overseeing primary ledgers, balance sheet reconciliations, statutory accounts production, tax compliance, and treasury management. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring operational effectiveness and technical compliance across financial processes, while providing high-quality financial advice and guidance to colleagues across the organisation.

From their campaigns to their services, the NSPCC strive to make a difference in everything they do. They work with schools, provide support and advice for families and deliver therapeutic services. They undertake ground-breaking research, campaign for change, and run two free helplines providing support and advice: Childline (for children and young people) and Helpline (for adults seeking advice). Between 2016 and 2021, they helped make 6.6 million children safer from abuse - but they won’t stop until they stop child abuse and neglect altogether.

The key duties of this Financial Accounting & Control Manager will be:

• Lead the production of consolidated statutory accounts for NSPCC and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with SORP and accounting standards.
• Implement, monitor, and enforce internal financial controls to ensure integrity of ledger and reporting.
• Manage VAT, direct tax, and corporate tax compliance, including planning, returns, and negotiations with HMRC.
• Oversee cash flow monitoring and treasury management, including investment and banking relationships.
• Critically evaluate and improve financial processes, documenting procedures and ensuring adherence across the team.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting.

• A CCAB-qualified accountancy qualification with experience in a complex financial environment.
