About the Degrees Initiative  

The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions.  

Degrees’ programmatic work is centred on capacity-building through research grants and North–South and South-South collaboration schemes, outreach activities, and cross-cutting community-building. As part of this, Degrees runs workshops in the Global South that bring new voices into the SRM conversation, and our research funds support scientists and other experts in developing countries as they research what SRM could mean for their regions and become part of a global research community.

The Programmes Officer role offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to help scale up the organisation’s work, building on the successes of the last decade, and to help the most climate-vulnerable countries make their own minds up about SRM.

About the role

This role is part of Shelter’s in-house development team, reporting to the Lead Developer, and working closely with all product teams in the Central Digital team.

As Principal Front-end Developer, you’ll work in a product team and be responsible for the overall vision and development of the front-end technology stack with a strong focus on the technical design and implementation of Shelters design system.

You will also support the development of products to help Shelter to provide faster, more efficient, and effective services to clients and supporters.

Our tech stack consists of Contentful, Netlify, Gatsby Js, Storybook, CircleCI and Nx.

You’ll head up the front-end development team, mentoring senior developers, supporting them and their reports (a total of 6 in your team) in their day-to-day work.

Working closely with UX, product, and content teams, you will drive strategically important projects from development through to evidence-based improvements after launch. As Principal Legal Adviser (Maternity cover), you will collaborate with Uplift’s team and key partners to ensure that our collective work is underpinned by robust and forward-thinking legal and policy analysis. From identifying strategic litigation opportunities to advancing law reform advocacy, this is a diverse role that is key to our work.

Uplift has taken and supported high-profile climate litigation and used legal insight to generate front-page headlines linked to our campaigns. Most recently, we have won the legal case against the Rosebank oil field in the North Sea. We have also generated legal analysis to support a wider network to participate in vital public consultation processes.

The successful candidate will have exceptional legal and advocacy skills, an ability to think strategically about law and policy opportunities, and a keen interest in climate and energy-related policy and campaigns. A strong commitment to Uplift's mission and core values is also required.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include:

Strategy and leadership

• Responsible for the development and implementation of Uplift’s legal strategy.
• Lead the development of Uplift’s strategic legal work, including litigation, law reform advocacy, and legal advice and analysis, that advances Uplift’s objectives.
• Lead the delivery of work programmes - including management of diverse and complex litigation and associated legal campaigns/communications - in line with Uplift’s legal strategy.
• Identify and shape strategic litigation opportunities, providing legal analysis and support to external lawyers and experts throughout.

Analysis and legal advocacy

• Develop legal analysis to support campaign, communications and research strategies, including support for key partners.
• Analyse, interpret, and synthesise legal and policy developments to support the politics team and advise our network.
• Track ongoing legal and policy developments across Uplift’s core areas of interest to identify key opportunities and gaps.
• Provide fact-checking and ad-hoc legal research for the Uplift team to ensure accuracy in Uplift’s public communications.

Management and staff support

• Manage sub-grants, sub-contractors and arrangements with external lawyers where relevant.

Our ideal candidate will have: 

• Experience in a similar or related role.
• A formal legal qualification, with a strong preference for previous experience in strategic litigation. Legal expertise in an area relevant to Uplift’s legal work is essential: environmental or climate law, public law (including administrative law) and/or just energy transitions.
• Experience of working and advising on policy areas linked to Uplift’s agenda would be a significant asset.

We are looking for a Training & Youth Participation Officer for our UK Safeguarding on Transport Project. This is a Hybrid role with some home working and requires frequent travel and overnight stays across the UK.

As our director of digital and information security, you will lead our digital risk and resilience team and programme in order to help build resistance and resilience among the people and movements challenging unaccountable power.

Lead our digital risk and resilience programme

We have an exciting opportunity within our IT Directorate for an experienced and dedicated BI Developer to join the team.

Working as part of a Data and BI team you will specialise in the development of dashboards, visualisations, data extraction and manipulation using in-depth knowledge of various software tools (including but not limited to PowerBI, SQL, Python / R) that provide value to, and delight, our customers.

About the role:

• Design, develop, and optimize advanced BI dashboards and reports using Power BI. Ensure they are intuitive, efficient, and tailored to the client's needs.
• Conduct comprehensive analysis of complex data, identifying trends, and translating insights into actionable recommendations.
• Leverage SQL skills to query, manipulate and manage data within relational databases. Ensure the efficient and effective use of data in support of strategic initiatives.
• Develop our Power BI platform.
• Build data models from scratch ranging in complexity.
• Contribute to the design and build of the organisation's data warehouse.
• Stay current with the latest Industry trends and specifically advances in the MS BI stack.
• Work as part of a team to prototype, develop, launch, maintain and enhance a portfolio of data analytics products that are quality-assured, user-focused, automated, reliable and secure.
• Creating statistically valid, user friendly visualisations and dashboards using PowerBI and other data analysis tools.
• Excel in methods for managing data across all parts of the development lifecycle using knowledge of ETL techniques to prepare data for use within data analytics products, creating robust and repeatable workflows to ensure effective and efficient future maintenance of data reports and visualisations.
• Create documentation, document code/ visualisations and user support materials to agreed standards.
• Provide specialist and/or subject expert advice and technical support in relation to complex user enquires relating to data products, reports and visualisations.
• Stay up to date with technologies and practices through formal external training, on the job training, interaction with co-workers and self-learning.
• Evaluate new technologies to ensure the advancement of technology architecture and data capabilities.
• Contribute throughout the entire development lifecycle and engage in automation and efficiency activities to benefit the team, its products and more widely.

About you:

• Significant experience using the Microsoft BI stack, Power BI, DAX, M or Power Query
• Significant experience using the SQL Server Stack, T-SQL, SSIS
• Experience with SSRS
• In-depth knowledge of data and requirements analysis.
• Proven experience as a Microsoft Power BI Developer with a strong portfolio of successful projects.
• Experience with data integration from various sources.
• Strong knowledge of data visualisation best practices and UI/UX principles.
• Able to collect, analyse and present complex data and information required to fulfil their role.
• Experience in development lifecycles and change management.
• Ability to demonstrate adapting to changing priorities.
• Can document their work to required standards.
• Ability to manage small projects and adhere to organisational project standards where required.

Responsibilities of our Community Fundraising Programme Development Officer:

The NGO was founded in 1993, as the UK network for organisations working in international development. They unite and support a diverse network of over 365 civil society organisations to help eradicate global poverty, inequality and injustice. They also support the sector to decolonise and become more anti-racist and locally-led.

This role is offered on an interim part-time 12 months contract basis paying a salary of circa £85,000 (0.4 FTE) pro rata with flexible remote working arrangements and occasional meetings at their London office.

The post-holder will support the organisation's secure the next phase of their large grants and to identify and engage with new and existing funders to diversify their funding sources. They will combine coordination with building strong relationships and supporting the organisation's managers and leaders to secure their funding into the future. The post holder will lead an informal team of staff drawn from across the organisation and work closely with the CEO and Directors to establish and maintain relationships with key donors. They will also play a key role in upskilling and developing staff capacity to fundraise within the organisation and coordinating their efforts.

They are looking for a candidate with significant existing relationships and networks amongst the major donors likely to fund the organisation's work. They are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in bringing teams together to submit bids, overseeing active funder management and finding the best relationships from which to secure funds.  The ideal candidate will have a track record in fundraising from major donors and a strong interest in and understanding of the international development sector and the role of networks within that sector.

Myeloma UK is looking for a driven and pro-active Events Fundraiser to join our growing Community and Events team.  You’ll be joining the team as we continue to refine and expand our mass participation events portfolio including London Paris Ride, Great North Run and 100 miles for myeloma. You will have experience in event delivery or project planning, delivering these activities within tight deadlines while successfully building effective relationships.

The role holder will have strong administration skills, attention to detail and work as part of a team.  You will be self-motivated and able to work remotely with little supervision, managing a wide range of tasks and having an interest in sporting and mass participation fundraising events.

Previous experience or knowledge of digital marketing, virtual fundraising events and using Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM system would be an advantage but not essential. 

About the role

As the Events Fundraiser you will be required to research, promote and deliver fundraising events, campaigns and activities, providing excellent stewardship to supporters, whilst working to help achieve monthly fundraising income targets.  You will work to deliver an annual calendar of runs, walks, challenge and sporting events across the UK as well increasing support through Myeloma UK virtual and Facebook events.

The role holder will work with the Senior Event Development Fundraiser to provide the highest quality of event delivery as well as developing relationships, securing support, marketing, delivering and monitoring the event ensuring post event evaluation and future recommendations are made.  They will also work closely with Community Fundraisers, supporting them as they identify opportunities to expand and diversify their fundraising portfolio.

You will work with other teams, develop materials required to support all marketing and promotion of events, ensuring organisational brand, style and key messages are adopted and ensure maximum use of database and other technology to increase operational efficiency within event fundraising.
