Shannon Trust are delighted to be working with His Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) to provide peer-led literacy across a number of prisons. We now have the opportunity to provide a service at HMP The Verne (subject to contract award). Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our literacy programme at HMP The Verne, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.
Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach.
This role will be prison-based. We are looking for someone to run our helpline and perform general administration office duties from our Birmingham office. A large part of this role is to provide emotional support to traumatically bereaved members when required.
Candidates must have a history of providing emotional support to emontionally distressed or vulnerable people.
The Office Assistant will be accountable to the Office Co-ordinator, and they must be able to fulfil a variety of administration and digital tasks. They will also assist staff and trustees in the delivery of the charity’s projects and possess good digital and face to face communication skills.

- provide early intervention support via telephone call to those affected by crime
- primarily focus on children and young people or their parents/guardians c
- carry out needs assessments
- use the case management system to allocate cases & update information
- liaise with other agencies, give information or make referrals & signposting information
You will need:
- to be confident, compassionate & empathic
- to be able to work well under pressure & remain composed when dealing with difficult situations
- to be able to quickly assess situations
- some experience of dealing with people & an interest in working directly and indirectly with youny people
- IT skills, able to use Microsoft Office & Case Management System

As a Triage & Early Intervention Officer, you will be:
You will be talking to people on the telephone from a variety of different backgrounds, all with different experiences. No two days are the same & you will need to use your communication skills and resilient nature to help those dealing with trauma and the effects of crime, who may have gone through a life-changing experience. Previous experience is not required as you will receive robust training prior to working directly with clients. You will also receive ongoing support to ensure that you can provide victims with quick responses to meet their needs and help them cope and recover.

About the role:
As a Team Leader for the Homicide Team, you will:
- lead a team of Homicide Family Caseworkers to meet service standards & contractual requirements
- enjoy working closely with a range of stakeholders (including Police Family Liaison Officers and Senior Investigation Officers within the Major Crime teams)
- support staff to keep them safe within their role, leading on the importance of personal and professional resilience and wellbeing for the team
- support the Operation Managers to maintain the highest standards of service delivery, across a widely geographically dispersed team
- travel across the geographical area including occasional overnight stays to ensure you can meet team members in person as well as online
You will need:

About the role:
You will lead and support a team of Homicide Family Caseworkers to meet VS and Homicide Service standards and contractual requirements. What is the role about?
A new project to support survivors of Domestic Abuse named 'SAFER' means we have a vacancy in the Administration Team. Undertaking a range of administration tasks to support the Kent Team in their day to day operations helping people affected by crime. Using a range of databases to enter or retrieve information, communicating with colleagues, the police and other agencies by e-mail and telephone and receiving and responding to internal and external queries and referrals.
You will need:
Our ideal candidate is someone who is resilient, confident, happy to work as part of a team and willing to constantly learn and adapt to new situations. They will enjoy being a part of a busy and varied working environment and can demonstrate an ability to communicate with both colleagues and external partners including investigating officers. They will have strong customer service ethics, be competent in the use of IT skills and know how to use a range of software packages on a PC. Training will be provided in the use of our Case Management System.
