The Furniture Makers’ Company is the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry.

Our role is to sustain a thriving British furnishing industry with a talented workforce delivering high quality products, which supports those in need from within its ranks and those who have served it in the past. We are seeking an organised and driven individual for a maternity cover to lead on our education and training programme, which is facilitating the growth of a talented workforce by inspiring, connecting and retaining the next generation. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to make a real impact, addressing the skills gap in the industry, working alongside young people.

This is a varied role with a significant focus on events and project management, including special events, as well as engagement activities to raise awareness of career opportunities in the industry. This includes driving forward our new 'My Furniture Career' website aimed at 15 – 24-year-olds and attending careers fairs. This role will also involve working with specialist education providers to support the provision of industry specific education and training.

A successful applicant will have demonstratable experience of organising and delivering large scale events, timely and cost-effective project management and financial reporting. You will be able to work independently and with a high level of attention to detail and used to prioritising a complex workload. Experience of working in the sector or in a previous educational role is not required.

Job Purpose

• To be the focal point for implementing all Education and Training activity within the Company, and to report back to the Education and Training Committee to maximise its reach and effectiveness.
• To implement several large-scale national events engaging young people, industry and specialist education providers.
• Oversee and steer the activity around a new website to engage young people with possible careers in the industry, ensuring growing engagement with young people and job posters.
• To administer and deliver several small grant programmes which support furniture and furniture students or those working with said students.
• To support and report quarterly to the Education and Training Committee.

Key Responsibilities

Events

• Young Furniture Makers Exhibition - To plan, organise and deliver the annual one-day exhibition showcasing the best new talent to industry. Securing event sponsorship and working with sponsors during the organisation process to ensure positive relationships. Working with over 70 exhibitors, multiple sponsors and external suppliers to ensure a successful event.
• Young Professional Industry Engagement event programme - To plan, organise and deliver the annual three-week programme of CPD visits for a selected group of participants to industry hosts across the UK. Working with participants and over 20 organisations to schedule and deliver the programme.
• Furniture Making T-Level conference – Working with the Chair of the Education and Training Committee and selected members to plan, organise and implement a one-day conference on the practicalities of overing the Furniture T-Level in an educational setting.
• Organise and attend several regional career fairs and trade shows to promote the education and training initiatives and encourage young people to consider a career in furniture and furnishings.
• Plan and organise the content of an Education and Training slot at the annual Furniture Makers’ HR Conference to highlight key events and programmes.
• Ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion is considered in all aspects of Education and Training events.

Grants

• Administer a small annual grants scheme supporting colleges and universities which provide specialist furniture and furnishing education courses.
• Manage a travel bursary scheme to support exhibitors attending the Young Furniture Makers Exhibition.

Website

• Administer the jobs board featured on the My Furniture Career website, screening and approving posted vacancies as well as liaising with those posting jobs to confirm the status of the vacancy, sharing data once the vacancy expires and collecting feedback data from the poster.
• To work with the Digital Officer to agree a schedule of content for the website and its associated social media.
• Work with the Communications Manager and Digital Officer to promote the use of the website by the targeted audience group as well as the HR community to post vacancies to the jobs board.
• Produce a quarterly report detailing the usage and any highlights regarding the website.
• Report any technical issues to the website provider and liaise with them to fix the issue.

Reporting

• Quarterly reporting on activity and budget to the Education and Training Committee.
• Supporting the Committee Chair by setting up Committee meetings and taking minutes.
• Supporting the Committee Chair with any other administration as necessary related to the Committee. 
• Assist with any ad hoc administration as necessary related to the FIESTA Committee.

Miscellaneous

• Assisting the Education and Training Committee Chair with any administration in regard to the Masters Certificate Scheme.
• Send quarterly feedback surveys mentoring participants and collect the data for reporting purposes.
• Work with the Communications and Marketing Manager to promote Education and Training events.
• Keep the Education and Training budget up to date and process all invoices in a timely manner.
• Report back to all event sponsors after any Education and Training sponsored event to keep sponsors updated and aware of the events successes.

Job Title:  Training Lead: Parents and Volunteers

Hours:         2.5 days a week 

Salary:    £32,000 for Cardiff Based/£34,000 for London Based

We are seeking a motivated, compassionate and engaging training lead for our parent and volunteer training programs. The training lead for parents and volunteers will lead on the design, development and delivery of a program of training support for parents impacted by Child Sexual Abuse and will support with the delivery of the training for new We Stand volunteers.

Role Description 

To plan, develop and deliver parent training and workshops for protective parents and carers whose

children have been sexually abused; to support parents and carers to understand and process the impacts of child sexual abuse and learn strategies for supporting their children after abuse together with those who share similar experiences. To work collaboratively with We Stand colleagues, to provide support that is accessible, appropriate, timely and tailored to suit the needs of individual clients.

To contribute to the recruitment and selection of We Stand volunteers including student therapists on placement and helpline volunteers. To lead on the delivery of induction and training for all new volunteers and ensure that they are adequately prepared and supported to begin their placement with We Stand.

Parent Training: 

Parent training and workshops are designed to support parents following a disclosure of CSA. The training focuses on providing parents and carers with the useful information and strategies they need to manage and support their child or young person’s journey of recovery. Via 1:1 or group sessions, parents gain the knowledge they need to help them support their child and regain confidence in themselves.

Key Responsibilities

Design and development of content 

• Setting up an annual program of training and workshop delivery for parents and carers

• Ongoing review and development of content to ensure the program is up to date and tailored to the needs of clients

Managing referrals and Assessment of clients 

• Working collaboratively with We Stand colleagues to promote training and workshops to relevant parents and carers

• Managing referrals to training and workshops and assessing the suitability of clients for the program

• Be a point of contact for parents and carers on the waiting list for training and workshops

Delivery of group and individual training 

• Deliver We Stand’s 4-week training programme for parents and carers

• Be a point of contact and support for parents during and immediately after their involvement in the program

• Where appropriate, deliver 1:1 training slots to parents and carers who require this additional support due to e.g. those with additional needs, high levels of anxiety or a particularly complex situation (including sibling abuse)

• Keep accurate and appropriate records for every parent/ carer attending training and workshops

We Stand relies on a team of dedicated and skilled volunteers to help us deliver life-changing support to families impacted by child sexual abuse. This includes via a comprehensive training and induction programme and ongoing professional development.

About Black Thrive 

Black Thrive Global (BTG) evolved from the work of the Black Thrive Lambeth (BTL) Partnership, which was established in 2016. We exist to address the inequalities that negatively impact the mental health and wellbeing of Black people so that the thriving of Black communities is the norm. 

Our guiding principle is that Black communities should be at the forefront of reimagining, redefining, and co-creating a society where systemic racism and other oppressive systems have been dismantled so that they have fulfilling lives. We have two priorities – building a Black Thrive Research Institute and embedding race equity in systems change. 

We have grown rapidly since 2021 and so still have a start-up culture and often deal with competing priorities at a fast pace. 

The aim of Black Queer & Thriving is to explore the health and wellbeing needs of Black LGBTQ+ people in Lambeth and Southwark, develop community research that details these needs with the Working Group and use the outcome to influence local policy and infrastructure. 

The purpose of this role is to support the Black Queer & Thriving workstream with the main priorities being: 

• Providing administrative support to the development of the Black LGBTQ+ Working Group, including organising meetings and minute taking; 

• Supporting relationship management with Lambeth and Southwark’s Black LGBTQ+ community; and 

• Leading on a community research project exploring the health and wellbeing experiences of Black LGBTQ+ people in Lambeth and Southwark.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Management Team:

• As part of the Management Team to oversee the function of the organisation and its strategic development, especially in relation to SRS’s advice service

Service Development

• Be responsible for developing the advice service according to organisational needs and strategy

 Team Management:

• To line manage and develop a team of Advice Workers and Reception/Admin Officer, to ensure they are suitably trained and supported to deliver a high-quality advice service across the county
• To line manage the Employment and Training Coordinator to ensure the employment and training team delivers an effective and cohesive service, which complements the work of the advice team

 Management of Advice Service and Direct Service Provision:

About the Role

WISH2 is one of three components of the FCDO-funded WISH Dividend programme, which follows on from the Women’s Integrated Sexual Health (WISH) programme (August 2018 - March 2024). It will be implemented alongside two other components, which will focus on 1. Policy and Systems, i.e. a demand-led, flexible technical assistance programme on SRHR and Demographic Transition and 2. Evidence and Learning, i.e. a Third Party Monitoring and verification, evaluation and learning support. As for WISH 2, it will aim to support targeted countries on comprehensive SRHR including support for service delivery and technical assistance, and will be implemented through two consortium structures, called Lots. MSI-led Lot 1 will focus on West and Central Africa (namely in DRC, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Chad and Mauritania) and IPPF-led Lot 2 on East and Southern Africa. Lot 1 consortium partners will be MSI, Ipas, Options, Sightsavers, RAES and WILDAF-AO. The programme should start in May/ June 2024 and last 60 months.

As a core member of MSI’s WISH2 Lot 1 Management Team, the Project & Communications Officer (PCO) will contribute to the fulfilment of the MSI-led consortium’s mission under the programme, taking responsibility for providing administrative support and ensuring good communication about the project with external and internal stakeholders, to ensure the smooth implementation of the project -

• Contract management, including compliance, and due diligence;
• Administrative support to the management team, coordination of all WISH 2 Lot 1 Management Team meetings and consortium meetings to ensure strong collaboration, communication and learning through meetings, workshops, country visits, etc;
• Technical support with creation and maintenance of shared systems, and ways of working to ensure best practice and the achievements of the project are documented; and communications, reporting and compliance requirements are adhered to;
• Communications support and materials production, i.e. support the Project Director and Deputy Project Director with the development and implementation of a WISH2 Lot 1 communications and visibility strategy, increasing knowledge and awareness of the project and ensuring compliance with FCDO communications requirements. This will include support to the development of a range of communications materials and their dissemination.

The role:

This part time (0.6FTE) post is located within the core services Team, and reports to the CEO. The postholder works closely across the organisation to deliver an efficient Office management, Reception and basic HR service to all managers and staff.

Aims of the post

• To manage the office, coordinating volunteers to provide reception and administrative services. 

• To coordinate and procure office and IT equipment.

• To carry out HR administration tasks acting as a first point of contact for managers and staff.

Specific Responsibilities

Office management

• Dealing with customer & external queries and disputes dealing with in bound and out bound communication, such as hybrid mail, post, phone calls and customer satisfaction surveys. 

• Organise Reception rota and cover, enabling opening hours to be fully resourced. 

• Dealing with petty cash.

• Managing phone and IT systems, contributing to new projects and upgrades.

To support the CEO to coordinate working groups across employees and volunteers. To administer staff surveys. 

• DBS checks - To undertake renewal DBS checks for all employees and volunteers and make recommendations as necessary to managers. 

• Managing information - To ensure good quality and accurate HR information management for all employees and volunteers with due regard to confidentiality and document control. To maintain electronic files and enable colleagues to make the best use of the HR database, Breathe HR. To facilitate references for former employees in partnership with managers and the CEO. 

• Payroll - To collate information, draft and seek authorisation of payroll changes in partnership with the CEO and Director of Finance. To support the annual pay review. 

• Recruitment - To coordinate recruitment processes in partnership with the recruiting manager. This includes liaising with the recruitment agency. 

• Learning and Development - To coordinate training suppliers and place bookings for courses in consultation with the CEO. To contribute to coordinating the annual Staff and Volunteer conference. 

Customer focused services

• Promote and support tenants/participants to access PBHA’s participation and co-production opportunities.

• Be supportive of PBHA’s ethos of maximising tenant/participant influence over the development of the organisation.

• To positively promote and signpost tenants and participants to report complaints in line with PBHA’s practice. To have a collaborative and co-operative approach towards resolving complaints, working with colleagues across teams and departments. To take collective responsibility for any shortfalls identified through complaints.

Main Conditions of Service

This is a part time position. The post is for 22.5 hours per week. It is expected that the hours will be delivered on 3 full days (to be agreed) each week but alternative arrangements, ie 4.5 hours per day for 5 days, may be acceptable. Duties will occasionally be carried out over evenings and some public holidays. Overtime is not paid but in line with Agile working, hours can be averaged out over a 2-week period.

Annual leave entitlement is 26 days per year plus normal bank holidays pro rata. This will rise after each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days – pro rata.  

Salaries and expenses are based on PBHA’s salary scales and are revised each year. The salary for this post will be in the range of £35,692 pro rata per annum and the starting salary is £35,692 (£21,415 for 22.5 hours per week).

The post holder will be auto enrolled to be a member of the organisation's contributory pension scheme if eligible.

In common with all posts at PBHA, confirmation of appointment is subject to a probationary period (6 months). The notice period for this role is four weeks.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fundraiser, working full-time on-site. The Fundraiser who will play an integral role within our team, working with the CEO, and senior management team, responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies, organising events and campaigns, maintaining donor relationships, and researching and identifying new funding opportunities, building a strong pipeline of core and restricted funding, as well as donations and gifts.
