Job description
About The Role

C54,000 people volunteered for the Poppy Appeal last year. It’s the largest UK charity appeal (over £51 million), and a treasured moment in society each November where people are given the opportunity to remember. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the appeal; without them there would be no poppies out on the streets and supermarkets.

We're looking for a talented Volunteer Experience Manager to join our Poppy Appeal team someone who can

- Strategically manage and deliver the volunteer experience, maximising engagement and minimising attrition through a best-in-class volunteer journey
- Drive recruitment campaigns to find more volunteers, ensuring full national coverage
- Find easier ways for people to give time, developing audience led propositions that work to engage more people from diverse backgrounds

Your experience of acquisition and engagement strategies really does have the ability to transform the appeal. Join our ambitious, forward-thinking team, with a passion for the poppy and for growing and nurturing our incredibly committed volunteers.

Come and be part of the leading Armed Forces charity, making a difference to the lives of those who have served to keep us safe and protect our way of life.

This is a high-impact role. If you're someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working collaboratively across teams, and brings both creativity and rigour to your work, we’d love to have you on board. Working closely with regional Poppy Appeal Managers and wider teams, you’ll use data, feedback and insight to challenge existing processes, simplify volunteer roles, and ensure every person who gives their time to us feels valued, supported and inspired.

You’ll bring a strategic mindset with hands on experience of volunteer, donor or supporter engagement ideally at scale. You’ll be confident using digital platforms and mass email tools to deliver campaigns that inform, thank and inspire, and know how to use insight to shape messaging and improve the volunteer experience. If you’ve worked on acquisition campaigns, developed retention strategies or led culture change around volunteer involvement we want to hear from you.

At the Royal British Legion, we know the importance of flexibility, so we offer options like our 9-day fortnight while also considering other flexible working arrangements to suit your needs. We want you to feel supported in balancing work with life’s other joys!

You will be contracted to your home address and will carry out the majority of your work remotely, using our collaboration tools to engage with colleagues. Regular travel to London will be required once a month for team meetings, and there may be additional travel and occasional out-of-hours work to support meetings with volunteers and key stakeholder groups.

Employee benefits include -

- 28 day’s paid holiday (plus bank holidays) increasing with service, with optional annual leave purchase scheme of up to 5 working days
- Generous pension contributions, with Employer contributions ranging from 6% to 14%
- Range of flexible working options may be available, depending on your role
- Employee Assistance Programme providing confidential counselling, financial and legal advice
- Range of courses delivered by learning specialists to support your development goals and objectives
- Opportunities to volunteer
- Travel loans, Cycle to Work, and more!

For more detailed information about the role, please see our Vacancy Information Pack attached to our direct advert.

RBL is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive organisation, reflecting the diversity of the armed forces community and of wider society. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and personal characteristics.

Interview Dates:        1st Interviews 2nd & 3rd September.

We may close this vacancy early if we believe we have enough strong applications to be able to successfully fill the role(s). Interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
