Responsibilities of our National Media Officer:
- research, write, and sell in stories, features, interviews, and images to media to meet team’s objectives

About the Media team:
Our media team is responsible for securing proactive and reactive press coverage for Cats Protection, ensuring more people are aware of our work. Our team protects and enhances the charity’s reputation and works across cat welfare, services, advocacy, campaigns, and income generation.
What we’re looking for in our National Media Officer:
- CIPR or equivalent professional qualification, or working towards
- experience in a press office or journalism environment
- experience working with national media contacts including news agencies
- experience of handling national reputation issues
- ability to draft reactive statements, Q&A documents and write campaign evaluation reports
- creative and organised, good people skills
- excellent written and verbal communication skills

What the job involves
We’re seeking a Website Content Officer to join our Integrated Marketing and Media team. In this role, you’ll take the lead in managing and improving the content on our website, making sure it’s clear, accessible and meets the needs of our diverse audience.
Acting as the ‘voice of the user’, you’ll be responsible for publishing updates via our content management system (CMS), maintaining high standards of quality, consistency, and accessibility across the site. You’ll oversee key areas, including the homepage, keeping information accurate, up to date, and easy to navigate.
You’ll work closely with teams across the Prostate Cancer UK to help shape their messages for the web, offering advice, guidance, and training where needed. Day to day, you’ll manage content schedules, review pages to identify improvements, and create or edit content to keep the site fresh and effective. You’ll also use digital analytics tools to monitor performance and suggest ways we can enhance the user experience.
As part of the Digital Marketing and Channels team, you’ll work closely with our email and social media teams to ensure our owned channels are aligned. You’ll lead on the delivery of our regular ‘News and Views’ articles in conjunction with our Strategic Communications team, and you’ll work closely with our Web Operations team to help identify and test new website features and fix technical issues.

What we want from you
We’re looking for someone with solid experience in writing, editing, and proofreading web content to serve a specific audience. You'll be skilled in using content management systems (ideally Umbraco) to build and update web pages.
You’ll have the technical skills to author and edit basic HTML, as well as prepare and edit images for the web. A good understanding of interpreting website analytics, including experience with Google Analytics and search engine optimisation techniques, is essential. You’ll be an excellent communicator, able to explain complex analytics and technical details clearly and accessibly to colleagues who may not have a technical background.
In this role, you’ll need to manage priorities effectively and work well under tight deadlines. You’ll be confident negotiating and handling challenging conversations when necessary. About the role
As Senior Media and Campaigns Officer, you will play a key role in delivering Wellbeing of Women’s media relations and campaigns strategy. You will be responsible for generating regular, high-quality national and regional media coverage and working on the implementation of impactful campaigns that raise awareness, influence policy, and support the charity’s wider objectives. You will think creatively about how to promote our work through both media engagement and wider campaigning activity across digital and offline channels.
We are looking for a creative and strategic communicator with excellent writing skills, a strong news sense, and the ability to develop engaging content and messages tailored to different audiences. Experience of working with the media is essential, writing reactive lines and pitching to national media, as is a good understanding of campaigning principles and how to mobilise public or stakeholder support. Main duties
Media relations
- Work with the Head of Communications and Campaigns to develop and deliver a proactive PR strategy to increase the reach of the charity.
- Develop PR materials including press releases, pitch angles, interview briefs, and media lists.
- Coordinate accurate and timely responses to inbound media enquiries, liaising with journalists and spokespeople.
- Work on media opportunities for our high-profile ambassadors.
- Support media planning and execution for fundraising partnerships and key organisational milestones.
- Monitor the media, including newspapers, magazines, journals, broadcasts, and newswires, for opportunities and coverage relevant to women’s health.
- Analyse and share media coverage internally and externally.
- Take the lead on media measurement and evaluation, compiling regular reports on coverage and impact.
Campaigns
- Support the planning and delivery of integrated communications and advocacy campaigns, such as ‘Just a Period’ and the Health Collective.
- Develop campaign content, and assets (digital, print, social) in collaboration with the wider team.
- Lead on management and expansion of the case study database, interviewing and writing them up and being the charity contact point for all teams looking for case studies.
- Contribute to campaign audience mapping, stakeholder engagement, and supporter mobilisation strategies.
- Support on political engagement work, especially with the Menopause APPG.

Wider communications

This is an exciting new role which involves supporting delivery of a wide range of virtual events at Sands, in order to grow our fundraising income.
