We’re looking for a Chief Executive to deliver our ambitious new strategy and to inspire and lead Genetic Alliance UK’s talented and experienced team following a period of significant change. We are an alliance of over 230 charities and support groups whose collaborative aim is to work together to improve the lives of 3.5 million people in the UK affected by rare or genetic conditions. We run 2 long standing projects, Rare Disease UK and SWAN UK (syndromes without a name). 

We are looking for candidates with a personal or professional passion for driving improvements in the lives of people affected by rare or genetic conditions, who can bring relevant expertise and diverse perspectives to shape our work.

You will be a credible senior leader who listens and learns from the views of members, supporters and partners, and builds on the high profile and strong reputation of Genetic Alliance UK.

We are seeking to complement the skills of our senior team by recruiting a Chief Executive with expertise in business development and income generation, governance, strategic delivery, impact measurement, operational management, business planning and financial management. It’s a broad role and we’re interested to hear from a range of candidates with different experiences.

Role: Philanthropy & Grants Manager

Summary:

The HALO Trust are looking for an experienced and driven Philanthropy and Grants Manager to lead and develop high value relationships with philanthropic donors, with a focus on Trust and Foundations (and potentially corporates). 

The Global Philanthropy Team works to secure support for the delivery of vital projects to save lives and protect livelihoods in conflict affected countries around the world, as well as build organisational resilience and support innovative areas of work.  HALO’s philanthropic income has grown significantly in recent years, driven by introductions from our network of trustees, ambassadors and advocates and our focus on strategic and transformational partnerships. We are a small team of highly skilled, experienced and driven fundraisers with a collaborative team culture. The team is supported by a Philanthropy Operations Manager, Philanthropy Assistant and Global Philanthropy Research and Insight Lead (who leads on research and due diligence). In 2024 a Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships for the Middle East will join our team to lead relationship development in this key market. 

You will join a fast-paced, fluid and entrepreneurial context, responding to opportunities while laying the critical foundations for strategic growth. 

While the role is likely to focus on Trusts and Foundations (and potentially corporates) due to our networked approach and the strategic and interconnected nature of our partnerships, supported by networks of advocates, we do not overly separate relationships between Trusts/Foundations, corporates and HNWIs.  This provides team members with varied opportunities in terms of the relationships they lead and the high-level stakeholders they work with. From briefing our Chief Executive prior to a meeting with a new potential donor for Ukraine, to engaging existing partners in the potential expansion of work in the Middle East, you will play a key role in making HALO’s lifesaving work possible.

In Ukraine, HALO is the largest demining organisation, having operated in the Donbas since 2016. Russia’s invasion has resulted in mine laying and explosive contamination on a scale not seen in Europe since the Second World War, including across vast tracts of farmland. This prevents agricultural production, which is critical to Ukraine’s economy and global food security. Across seven regions, more than 1,000 local Ukrainian staff have already enabled the removal of more than 19,000 explosive items and the clearance of more 3.1 million m2 of land- bringing safety to communities and supporting Ukraine’s economic recovery.

True peace cannot come until land is safe. HALO’s work to clear the deadly debris of war is the first step towards recovery and reconstruction. And the return of hope.

About the role:

The HALO Trust has more than doubled in size over the last eight years by growing support from both Governments and philanthropic donors.  Global income from philanthropic donors (including the US) has significantly increased over the past five years – from circa £4 million to £15 million in 2022/23 and reaching a further peak of £44 million in 2023/24 in response to exceptional donor support for Ukraine. Unpinning this is growth in six and seven figure partnerships with major donors, corporates and foundations, initiated by our exceptionally well-connected network of trustees and ambassadors - and nurtured by our committed and professional global philanthropy team.

The team has a global remit and this, together with HALO’s extensive geographic footprint, creates significant opportunities for growth in our portfolio of partnerships.

By nurturing and growing high value partnerships this role plays a key role in supporting the delivery of HALO’s life-saving work around the world.

Job Responsibilities:

• Lead growth within a portfolio of high value (six and potentially seven figure) relationships by providing excellence in supporter stewardship and through the development and delivery of relationship strategies, in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy and Head of Global Grant Partnerships
• Support senior HALO staff, advocates and trustees to engage and inspire individuals linked to agreed relationships
• Work with international programme teams to ensure the development of high-quality proposals and reports to tight deadlines
• Contribute to departmental strategic priorities including supporting the stewardship of other major relationships, follow up of new opportunities, and the development of philanthropic products for wider use. Deputise for the Head of Global Grant Partnerships where required
• Manage donor records and correspondence in Salesforce
• Work closely with Philanthropy and Partnerships (Gov funding) colleagues in the USA, UK, Europe, Middle East and overseas programs as part of a distributed team to provide support to global fundraising efforts

Essential Requirements:

• Three years' experience of personally leading successful relationships with high value philanthropic donors (Trust and Foundations, corporates or high net worth individuals or equivalent), including those giving at the six or seven figure level
• Experience of building effective relationships with advocates linked to philanthropic donors
• An excellent communicator with the ability to build relationships with staff and colleagues in different cultural environments
• Outstanding written skills with the ability to work with programme and finance colleagues to design robust project proposals, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation
• Confident in working with financial information including project budgets
• Excellent written and verbal skills with strong attention to detail
• Outstanding interpersonal skills including ability to demonstrate tact, sophistication and gravitas 
• Experience of working with a fundraising database to maximise relationship development
• A commitment to HALO’s mission and objectives
• Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to articulate HALO’s various programmes and strategies in a compelling way
• Tenacious, self-starting, and able to thrive in a fluid, entrepreneurial context

• Experience of high value fundraising in the following areas is desirable: humanitarian and international development, mine action, conflict, the environment / conservation

Your new role 

Reporting to the Director of Resources, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial operations, ensuring these are compliant with statutory requirements and that financial controls are appropriate and effective. You will also maintain a financial planning framework that will facilitate the delivery of the Academy’s financial strategy. 

Specific areas of focus will include. 

• Prepare statutory consolidated Group accounts and accounts for the trading subsidiary, including managing the relationship with external auditors.

• Manage the DSIT (Department of Science, Innovation & Technology) monthly grant claim process.
• Support the Development team with donor reporting requirements. 

What you need to succeed

You will be a qualified accountant and will be able to provide excellent financial management and reporting for the organisation. You will be confident working with internal and external stakeholders and will be capable of considering their different requirements and priorities. A good understanding of restricted and unrestricted income would be a distinct advantage, as well as an understanding of donor reporting requirements. You will be committed to continual improvement of systems and enhancing the overall service provided by the finance team.

As the Institute’s Fundraising Manager you will play a pivotal role in securing the financial resources necessary to support the Institute’s strategic initiatives and operations, as well as maintaining the relationships and communities that drive long term funding. Working closely with the Institute’s Executive Leadership and board, you will be responsible for executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy from mixed funding sources – government, philanthropic and corporate - engaging with funders, and building lasting relationships with stakeholders to maximise funding opportunities.

Alongside being active in direct engagement with funders, you will lead on the underlying processes and systems that drive successful fundraising, creating and maintaining rigorous process management, record-keeping and CRM use, funder research and meeting preparation, and supporting the senior team in creating relationships that last. Key responsibilities & skills development opportunities: 

Fundraising Strategy and Implementation 

• Implement a robust fundraising strategy aligned with the Institute's mission and goals.

• Create and manage annual fundraising plans with clear targets and KPIs.

• Coordinate with the communications and events team to develop engaging materials and events to support fundraising efforts. 

• Be supportive of creating a collaborative and inclusive working environment, supporting key Institute-wide commitments on DEI. 

Data Management and Reporting 

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of fundraising activities, donor interactions, and financial contributions. 

• Prepare detailed reports on fundraising performance, donor engagement, and financial targets. 

• Maintain CRM systems to be up to date, and utilize systems to manage donor information and track fundraising metrics. 

• Ensure that the Institute complies with laws, regulations and best practice relating to fundraising including, but not limited to, those specified by the Fundraising Regulator in its Code of Conduct and GDPR. 

Essential Qualifications and Experience: 

• Proven experience in fundraising preferably within the non-profit sector. 

• Interest and enthusiasm for the impact investing sector. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive proposals and presentations. 

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. 

• Proficiency in using CRM systems.

We are a small, highly experienced team who share a passion to support the wellbeing and mental health of children and young people across Surrey.  This is a key new role in the Major Relationships unit to support the CEO and Major Relationships Lead in major donor fundraising, an area which has grown in recent years.  This locally based post will enhance the prospect pipeline and facilitate the cultivation of major donor prospects, which will help towards meeting the objectives and financial targets for major donor fundraising. The role will cover three main areas of responsibility: Research, Events (organisation/co-ordination) and Admin. This position requires discretion, confidentiality and administrative judgment.

The Major Relationships unit works alongside Grants, Corporates & Community as well as Individual Giving, as part of the wider Engagement (fundraising/marketing) team at Eikon. 

Responsibilities   

1. Research   

• Identify and prioritise potential major donor prospects in Surrey and beyond, who would be capable of making significant contributions and seem likely to have the propensity to donate i.e. to become major donors. 

• Produce high quality, tailored and insightful research on major donors.  

• Look at current supporters (all different types/levels) with good contacts/connections/networks and conduct research in order to suggest ways to reach new high net worth individuals across Surrey. 

2. Event organisation/co-ordination 

• Organise/coordinate internal and externally run events such as dinners, drinks receptions, sporting events. 

• Attend key events - approx. 5 each year and sometimes evenings/weekends – welcoming guests and ensuring a positive experience. 

• Join the CEO and/or the Major Relationships Lead at specific meetings with MDs/MDPs, occasionally evenings/weekends. 

 3. Admin 

• Day-to-day support for MDs, MDPs and key influencers (KIs) which could include:  

• General stewardship including thanking and processing information on Sharepoint and Donorfy (Eikon’s database). 

• Regular communication including calls, meetings and sharing reports, presentations and other updates. 

• Database admin, including checking opportunity pipelines and reporting requirements. 

• Supporting individuals or small groups who are fundraising for us e.g. how to set up and promote a JustGiving page. 

4. Marketing, Communications and relationships  

• Support and liaise with the Marketing and Communications team to deliver relevant and effective content and materials, as well as maximising social media opportunities. 

• Co-ordinate communications (including distribution) to all MDs/MDPs/KIs eg CEO Update plus Infographic. 

• Support the CEO and Major Relationships Lead to further develop good relationships with Eikon’s MDs/MDPs/KIs. 

5. Strategy  

• Contribute to Engagement Team strategies, annual plans and budgets.  

6. Staff management  

• Take part in regular supervision and team meetings.  

• No line management requirement  

7. Quality and standards  

• Ensure all staff and volunteers understand and deliver within Eikon’s safeguarding policies and practices when taking part in fundraising activities.  

• Ensure all activities follow the relevant Fundraising Codes of Practice and Eikon’s Ethical Fundraising Policy.  

• Carry out risk assessments for all MD/MDP/KI events.  

• Ensure consent procedures are followed. 

• Carry out required due diligence on new MD opportunities and ensure that there is no obvious conflict with the values or ethical policy of the charity.  

8. Finance and resources.  

• Operate within organisational approved budgets, policies and procedures.   

9. Other responsibilities  

• This role requires flexible working outside of normal hours as agreed.  

• Keep abreast of sector trends and opportunities.   

The National Safeguarding Panel (NSP) continues to operate, necessitating a chair. However, both the chair’s role and that of the NSP may evolve due to the Church’s upcoming decisions regarding safeguarding, prompted by Wilkinson and Jay

We are working in partnership with the The National Safeguarding Panel (NSP) which was established in June 2014 to support the Church of England’s development of national safeguarding responses, notably in the light of the Chichester Reports. The NSP is an advisory group which has performed a key role in providing reference to, and scrutiny of, the Church’s development of national safeguarding policy and guidance over the last three years. 

The NSP is looking to appoint an experienced independent Chair who will lead the National Safeguarding Panel, provide excellent leadership, direction and independent scrutiny and challenge to the Church of England and bring external expertise from holding a highly senior role. 

They are looking for an independent chair who:

• Is a gifted leader, who will support the Church of England in further strengthening its safeguarding arrangements and partnerships;
• Is passionate about working collaboratively at all levels, with a proven track record in improvement work at a national level;
• Knows how to hold organisations to account and possesses the skills to support the development of senior leaders;
• Has a good understanding and experience of the core aspects of safeguarding in the field of statutory and/or voluntary sector at a senior level;
• Is empathetic, strategic, emotional and has analytical skills, and able to act as a ‘critical friend’ in supporting and challenging people and institutions to help improve their safeguarding practice and arrangements;
• Has a relevant academic or professional qualification.

The successful candidate will have safeguarding expertise, with a natural empathy for the needs and experiences of children and/or adults who have been abused.  You will be a senior leader, with excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

JOB PROFILE
Reporting to the UK Head of Communications and Giving (HC&G), you will be at the forefront of demonstrating to the public how Afghanaid is changing lives in Afghanistan, and raise awareness of key issues communities we work with are facing. You will lead the development and delivery of the organisation’s media and PR strategy, building out Afghanaid’s capacity to pitch stories, field opportunities, cultivate a strong network of journalists and high profile supporters, and ultimately secure coverage and opportunities that drive the success of the organisation’s campaigns and heighten Afghanaid’s credibility and profile.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Media and Public Relations

• Design and action an annual Media and PR strategy based on wider team and organisational goals;
• Conceptualise and deliver strategic earned media campaigns, supporting the HC&G to execute and maximise the success of multi-channel campaign development and execution;
• Proactively identify, pitch and advocate for compelling stories, strategically engaging with journalists to expand message reach and ensure brand integrity;
• Field inbound media inquiries, liaising with journalists and colleagues to maximise opportunities;
• Craft and distribute timely press releases, comments, and statements;
• Work with colleagues to cultivate a strong spokesperson team, with a particular focus on developing Afghanaid’s thought leadership;
• Support spokesperson briefing, developing talking points, interview briefs, Q&A materials and drafting speeches;
• Compile up-to-date and detailed media lists, cultivating warm media contacts through high quality stewardship;
• Monitor media coverage on Afghanistan and Afghanaid, including articles, live news, and social media activity to keep abreast of unfolding stories, identifying trends, cultural moments and other opportunities relevant to Afghanaid and devising ways to get involved;
• Generate content for various owned communication channels including the website, newsletters, and social media platforms, keeping the Media hub on the website up to date with the latest news, coverage, and journalist information, and making suggestions for refinement.
• Work with Communications Officer to maintain and execute a coordinated communications calendar, ensuring day-to-day team activities via earned, paid and digital communications streams are synchronised and symbiotic;
• Identify a wide range opportunities for positive exposure of Afghanaid that may inspire new support;
• Work with HC&G to support relationship management of external agencies and consultants, identifying and responding to opportunities to utilise pro-bono support from such businesses;
• Collect and analyse data and produce reports and presentations on key media and PR performance indicators to assess the effectiveness and reach of our communications activities and make recommendations for improvement;
• Identify and pursue opportunities to utilise high profile and celebrity support. Work collaboratively with other members of the Communications and Giving team to engage these contacts in media campaigns, appeals, digital communications and events, and where possible and appropriate cultivate Ambassador-style partnerships;
• Attend relevant events, external fora and working group meetings and identify opportunities for involvement with advocacy initiatives, particularly those within the climate space, that benefits Afghanaid’s goals and reputation;

Our Senior Data Engineer will work within the Improvement Analytics Unit (IAU).They will support our Assistant Director and Senior Analytical Managers to deliver an ambitious work programme, leading on data engineering, data management and information governance. The data landscape across health and social care is constantly changing, so this role will be a flexible and responsive one, keeping us close to the cutting edge of data science. This is a role where we’ll be investing in your skills and development - you’ll play a key role in delivering our projects.

We are looking for an experienced Microsoft SQL Developer to design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases that support our business applications and operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL programming, and database performance optimisation.

Working alongside our solutions architect, you’ll be responsible for the development and management of our data import processes by managing and onboarding new data feeds through our bespoke ETL tool, the Message Broker. You’ll be focused on developing and translating business reasoning into data transformation. You’ll act as a key conduit between teams – ensuring new functionality is rolled out effectively to become business as usual. Find the best ways of importing and validating customer data, so we can build long term relationships with our customers and keep them coming back for more. You’ll get involved at the briefing stage and see it through to delivery of data, championing security, governance, quality and accuracy at every step along the way. 

This is role is currently seconded to the Technology Directorate, working on the delivery of the charity’s key IT systems such as the current migration from Raisers Edge 7 to Raisers Edge NXT CRM.
