Executive Director

We have an exciting opportunity for an Executive Director to lead a small charity who work within the Jewish community to make it more inclusive of LGBT+ people through education, consultancy and training.

Position: Executive Director

Location: London (King Cross) / Hybrid (minimum one day a week in the office)

Salary: FTE £47,000 to £53,000 per annum depending on experience

Hours: 40 hours flexitime, including a paid hour for lunch each working day. Core hours are 10am-4pm. Will seriously consider applicants requesting 4 days per week or a job-share

About the role:

As Executive Director you will lead a small team – Head of Education (full time), Head of Community Life (full time) and Programme and Volunteer Officer (full time), working with a charity that has a vision of a world where no one is forced to choose between their LGBT+ and Jewish identity.

As the only charity doing this in the UK, the charity works in partnership with communities to identify their goals, then tailor  support so they can achieve them.

Key responsibilities of the Executive Director:

• Delivering the organisation’s priorities as laid out in the 2022-2027 strategy
• Ensuring financial sustainability through devising and executing a fundraising strategy and carefully managing the organisational budget

• Sensitive, compassionate leadership and management of the professional team
• Working in close partnership with the Board of Trustees
• Effective accounting and governance
• Monitoring and managing risk via the risk register and seeking legal advice where necessary
• Managing key stakeholders both internal (e.g. volunteers) and external (e.g. communal partners, the wider LGBT+ sector)
• Being the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the charity

About you:

• The ability to speak and write confidently and authentically about LGBT+ issues
• Strategic leadership, planning and decision-making experience in a commercial, not-for-profit or public service setting
• Line management experience, including the ability to inspire and empower a staff team
• Understanding of the charity and voluntary sector, including the funding environment in which charities operate
• Highly effective relationship-builder across multiple arenas (internal stakeholders, external partners, funders etc)
• Knowledge and experience of strategic planning and business development, including operational planning and delivery management
• Knowledge and working experience of organisational finance and budget planning cycles
• Experience working with, and preferably in, the UK Jewish community

We are looking for a highly motivated Director of Training to take over strategic leadership of the Reprezent Training Programme. You’ll build on our existing model to develop and finance a full calendar of training delivery, working alongside the existing team of trainers and station staff to maximise the potential impact on our beneficiaries. Reprezent is a not-for-profit social enterprise and specialist youth development organisation. Our award-winning approach helps young people to realise their full personal potential by providing training and development programmes that enable them to jumpstart their careers and develop a core suite of social, emotional and broadcast skills. We have been a pivotal stepping stone for hundreds of artists and broadcasting presenters aspiring to break into the mainstream over the last two decades, including Stormzy, Munya Chawawa, Jorja Smith and Jamz Supernova, and have helped thousands more young people to meet other personal development goals.

At the helm of our operation is Reprezent Radio, a dynamic youth-led community radio station based in South London. Since 2010 the station’s hallmark has been empowering young voices and championing the narratives of diverse and underrepresented communities, and as a result many of our beneficiaries are those deemed ‘hardest-to-reach’ (young black South Londoners, early school leavers, second generation immigrants).

Our unique training model combines in-person training courses with work experience placements at the station, resulting in a cohesive programme of entry-to-advanced level training provision and an active waiting list of over two thousand people.

Location

This role is a hybrid position, working both from home and with regular attendance required at our office/training space in Peckham and our station headquarters in Brixton.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Executive Team to develop a Sustainable Growth Strategy for our training department. This should contain concrete plans for income generation and beneficiary impact KPIs for the short, medium and long term. This process will involve:

  • Strategic analysis of competitors and market need.

  • Critical evaluation of existing frameworks and assets.

  • Researching available grants and fundraising opportunities.

  • Exploring other revenue opportunities through networks and brand partnerships.

• Once the Sustainable Growth Strategy has been drawn up, management of its implementation and ongoing development. This will include:

  • Writing and developing bids to appropriate funders and corporate partners.

  • Undertaking dynamic reviews of the programme after each major round of delivery, reviewing trainee feedback and outcomes and adapting the provision accordingly.

  • Developing new offerings to meet market need.

  • Overseeing work experience placements within the radio station, ensuring that the progress and wellbeing of beneficiaries is monitored and developed.

  • Optimising the use of available facilities.

Our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis. We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale up of programmes to create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. Part 1:  Role Purpose:

This role is a key member of the busy HQ finance function. Although the role is primarily focused on the HQ finances, the role operates within the context of Street Child as a global charity and so also has interaction with the global finance team. The role offers the chance to work across a number of finance functions, and some of the subsidiary charities. It is essential that the applicant can juggle the complexities of a busy role with has varied work priorities. Key stakeholders are the HQ Finance Manager, Finance Director and the HQ based fundraising team. The role works alongside the Finance Assistant and plays a role in oversight and coaching of this role.

Part 2:  Key Responsibilities:

1) (40%) Deliver all functions related to Accounts Receivable

• Ensure that all income from a variety of different sources is correctly and accurately recorded in the finance system and CRM (which is under development) on a weekly basis.
• Supporting with work on accounts receivable including accessing, downloading and saving in a systematic manner reports from donor portals, bank account and other sources.
• Working with colleagues in Fundraising to analyse and code income reports in Excel and uploading it to the Finance system on a timely basis, at least weekly.  Following up on how to code any income which is not allocated to a source.
• Working closely with colleagues in Fundraising to ensure prompt collection of outstanding balances from customers, and sending out monthly debtor balance statements. 
• Raising donor invoices and requests for payments, and issuing donor receipts.
• Income and customer account reconciliations and revaluations.
• Any other responsibilities relating to Accounts Receivable.

2) (20%) Lead the Accounts Payable process

• Whilst the Finance Assistant is responsible for all payments, the Finance Officer has a lead role in ensuring that all invoices are paid on time, in an efficient manner and that the finance system reflects the transactions within the correct accounting period and correctly coded in the system – including account code, cost centre, project code and donor code.
• Determine most efficient payment platform to process international payments, and ensure that recorded in the finance system at the correct conversion rate.
• Be a point of contact with the Foreign exchange agents to quickly resolve any questions.
• Work with the Finance Assistant to ensure accurate and timely recording of all approved supplier invoices, requisitions, staff expenses and other expenditure in the accounting system and that all supporting documentation for all transactions are uploaded.
• Managing at least two payment runs a week and additional runs as required; ensuring that all invoices for payment are correctly approved by the budget holder, setting up payments on online banking platforms and sending out requests for payment approvals to payment authorisers and verifying that all payments are fully approved in the banking platforms by the deadline set.
• Once the payment is made, allocating the payment against the invoices in the Finance system.
• Reviewing staff expense claims to ensure that all supporting documentation is provided before payment.
• Managing monthly staff credit card reconciliations and ensure that these are returned on time with all receipts and invoices and checking and reviewing classifications, with follow up as required.
• Carry out monthly Creditor account reconciliations ensuring that all balances are valid and backed up with appropriate supporting documentation.
• Fully deliver the set up all payroll payments in time for the monthly pay day.  This involves ensuring correct amount and currency of payment (which may differ from the salary of the individual’s employment contract) and method of payment across all HQ staff.
• Any other responsibilities relating to Accounts Payable.

3) (40%) Month end reporting and reconciliation and subsidiary accounts

• Complete all balance sheet reconciliations, including bank and petty cash reconciliations and submit for approval by HQ Finance Manager.
• Once CRM system is in place, undertake reconciliation processes between finance data and CRM data.
• Carry out monthly revaluations of bank accounts.
• Ensuring supporting information for transactions is correctly stored in electronic format on Teams such as bank statements, remittance advices, credit statements.
• Assist in preparation of internal reports, including working with Operations Department and Finance department to review their monthly reports.
• Take responsibility to deliver the management accounts of two subsidiary companies: Children in Crisis and HQ transactions of Africa Educational Trust.
• Compile information for Gift Aid returns.
• General support and assistance to the team including administrative duties and managing the office post.
• Other ad hoc support to the wider operations team as may be required.
• Audit: support with the year end audit and provision of supporting information to auditors.

Job Purpose

To manage the internal financial operational processes and reporting for the Federation, ensuring timeliness, accuracy and completeness. To provide financial support and advice to Head Office departments and schools, including the Federation Senior Leadership Team. To provide support to the Financial Controller and Director of Finance as required.

The Federation is going through an exciting period of change and this role represents an excellent opportunity to be part of driving improvements within a large organisation, as part of a compact and high-performing central finance function.

Main Areas of Responsibility

• Oversee all income processing for the schools and federation.
• Oversee all payroll processing for the schools and federation,
• Manage the BACS and manual payment process
• Review central processing for best practice.
• Oversee Balance sheet reconciliation for the schools and federation monthly
• Maintain the finance handbook and other published guidance
• Work with FC and Systems team to implement month end timetable
• Develop and implement a training for Finance Officer’s, Management Accountant’s and Accounts Payable team
• Work with the Financial Controller on producing and reviewing consolidated monthly accounts
• Work with partnership team to incorporate proposed adjustments to Month end and Year end accounts in line with the timetable.
• Prepare all consolidated submissions to the Department for Education
• Prepare year end papers and supporting schedules for head office activities
• Liaise with the Internal Audit team and External auditors
• Assist with various ESFA submissions and audits
• Oversea Reconciliation and review of monthly inter-academy recharges
• Review of monthly journals (e.g. prepayments, deferred income, academy recharges)
• Identify and evaluate opportunities for improving value for money
• Work closely with other departments and Hubs within the central federation such as procurement to ensure that we have clear and smooth processes between departments

Reporting directly to the Director of Global Mission, this focal coordinating role within our Global Mission Team (GMT) will ensure the effective functioning of the GMT by offering:

About the Youth Endowment Fund 

We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.  

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children becoming involved in violence. We do this by funding great initiatives, leading cutting-edge research and working for change - scaling up and spreading the practices that make a difference. 

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) has a critical role in ensuring we succeed in this work. You have a key leadership role in overseeing the overall health of the Fund in partnership with the Executive Director. The role oversees our finances, people management and – for the right candidate –much of our grant-making and project management. 

Key responsibilities 

You’ll lead on key organisational governance processes and ensure the Fund makes wise decisions, by:  

• Being a leading member of our Directors’ team, overseeing all elements of the Fund’s work.

• Ensuring that the Fund operates as efficiently and effectively as possible by prioritising the right activities and matching resources to deliver on our mission.

• Ensuring we have the right long, medium and short-term financial plans in place and that we maintain close control over our financial decisions and spend. 

• Informing our Board and our Risk and Audit Committee on our financial performance and risk.

• Ensuring the Fund’s investments are well managed through supporting the Endowment Investment Committee (this does not require investment experience). 

• Managing our Grants and Evaluation Committee (this decides which evaluations we should fund) and ensuring it operates effectively. 

• Ensuring that any ambiguities in the organisation are identified and removed. 

You make sure that the Fund has the people, tools and resources in place to excel. This will require us to:  

• Hire, develop and inspire the very best people: Managing our Head of People, you will ensure that we hire the best possible staff, compensate them appropriately, provide necessary and effective training, maintain a strong focus on staff well-being, manage and develop staff effectively and address poor performance when required. 

• Provide staff with the tools they need to perform: Managing our Head of Grant Operations, you will ensure that we have the tools we need to deliver, including management information, databases, systems and processes and office facilities. 

• Track performance: Track performance against our goals efficiently and effectively, championing a system of accountability and action to review, identify and empower the right people to act on delivering according to the plan. 

Working with colleagues, you’ll ensure we award grants, manage grantees and oversee evaluations efficiently and effectively. This will require us to: 

• Make excellent decisions about our grants: Working with – and potentially managing1 - the Assistant Director for Programmes, Impact and Partnerships, you will help to ensure that our processes for assessing funding applications achieve our organisational priorities for evidence generation. This requires you to understand what partners are trying to do, whether it’s likely to work, whether it will help us build an accessible and trusted body of knowledge, and whether we can build on it to make long-term change happen. 

• Evaluate our programmes: Working with - and potentially managing - the Assistant Director of Evaluation, you will help to ensure that we select and partner with high-quality evaluators to understand how well different activities work.

• Ensuring the team maintains effective monitoring processes: Working with your team, you will develop the necessary skills, processes and decision-making processes to identify when things aren’t going to plan and respond accordingly.

• Build strong relationships with your external partners: You and your team will build strong, trusting relationships with the projects the YEF funds and the evaluators that we work with. Your team will be known for being attentive yet assertive and measured and efficient in the reporting information we expect. You will become well connected in the sectors that we are working in.

• Identify opportunities to scale up projects: You will be proactive in identifying projects that would benefit from capacity development support or that may be ready to scale up their work, collaborating with Impetus to deliver on this.

The Dalit Solidarity Network is a small human rights organisation working to eliminate caste-based discrimination in the UK and South Asia. Registering as an official charity in 2003, Dalit Solidarity Network UK continues to grow as an effective campaigning and advocacy organisation, working on the issue of caste discrimination in the UK and being an active player in the global movement.  Our major areas of work include documenting 'everyday casteism', building capacity of businesses to address caste-discrimination in overseas supply chains and UK operations and working with UK Higher Education Institutions to protect against caste-discrimination.

About the role:

We are seeking a part-time Office Administrator for 2 days/week, initially for one year with a possibility of renewal. The hours can be worked flexibly with prior agreement of the Director. Hybrid-working arrangements (from home and on site) will be considered.  

Main responsibilities:

Administration:

· Responsible for day-to-day administration and office management and providing secretarial assistance to the Director & diary management.

· Maintenance of files and records both physical and computerised system filing and computerised database systems and email lists.
