About the role:
The primary focus of the Bookkeeper role is credit control - raising invoices and following up on accounts receivable for our membership (approximately 1000 participants). The role will also include posting expenses and ensuring they are properly documented, reconciling bank accounts, and ensuring that records are accurate, up-to-date, and comply with relevant accounting principles.
This is a part-time role (3 days per week to start). The successful candidate may normally work from home or our office, but occasional in-person meetings at the office will be required (minimum twice per month).
Who we are looking for:
- Someone with a strong understanding of financial principles and practices, with excellent attention to detail – ensuring accuracy in financial records and reports.
- Someone with strong organisational skills, capable of managing time effectively and prioritising multiple tasks efficiently.
- A confident communicator, both in writing and verbally, who can interact well with team members, management, and external stakeholders. They should also be comfortable using the telephone and willing to make calls when needed.
- Strong mathematical skills and the ability to work with numbers accurately is essential.
- Someone with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to review and interpret financial data, resolve discrepancies, and provide valuable insights to support senior management's decision-making.
- An individual with good IT skills who is proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, along with experience in accounting software and CRM systems like Salesforce. We use Xero, but knowledge of this specific software is not required.
In your first 6 months:
To help you settle quickly, we will provide a thorough and comprehensive onboarding. Through meetings with key colleagues and online training, we will help you to become familiar with our way of working and our value proposition.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Accounts Receivable: Manage accounts receivable (member invoicing and collections) ensuring that all invoices are generated on time and payments are collected effectively.
- Monitor Member Accounts: Track outstanding balances and proactively contact members regarding unpaid invoices to ensure timely payment
- Debt Collection: Chase overdue payments by phone or email.

- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of member accounts, including invoices, payment history, and communications, and provide regular reports to senior management.
- Cash Allocation: Ensure all incoming payments are correctly allocated to the corresponding invoices.
- Dispute Resolution: Investigate and resolve any disputes or queries regarding invoices or payments.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports on outstanding debts, overdue accounts, and the overall status of the company’s receivables to senior management.
- Liaison: Collaborate with internal teams (Participant Engagement/Impact & Growth/Programmes) to resolve any issues that may delay payment.
- Expense Management: Track company expenses and ensure they are allocated correctly across teams.
- Bank Reconciliation: Regularly reconcile bank accounts to ensure that all transactions are properly allocated and accounted for, and discrepancies are addressed.
- VAT Compliance: Ensure VAT is accurately applied to all relevant transactions and prepare VAT returns for review by our accountant or Executive Director before submission, in compliance with legal requirements.
- Support Audits: Prepare relevant documents and assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary financial records.
- Petty Cash Handling: Manage petty cash transactions and ensure they are recorded appropriately.
The Bookkeeper may also be required to perform general finance and accounts-related tasks as needed to support the overall financial operations of the company.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar financial role.
- Certification in bookkeeping, or equivalent
- A good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping is essential, along with familiarity with tax and regulatory requirements.

Leading People’s Economy’s approach to training
- With support from the Programme Director, lead the development of People’s Economy’s approach to training and workshops to create an approach and set of standards to be applied across the organisation.
- Stay abreast of developments in training best practice across similar organisations and use this knowledge to further develop People’s Economy’s training approach.
- Develop resources (e.g. types of training exercises) that can be used across People’s Economy’s training work
- Support colleagues and freelancers to implement People’s Economy’s training approach, including through delivering ‘train the trainer’ training and creating learning resources
- Work with the Programme Director to create processes to oversee the quality and delivery of all of People’s Economy’s training

Understanding the market is key as you’ll be helping our member students’ unions to interpret current trends and develop them into successful action within member commercial operations.

Job Profile
The leadership and Governance Officer is a key role that enables CAFOD’s Leadership (the Executive Team) and Governance (the Board of trustees) teams to fulfil their remits well through sound administration, organisation, and relationship-building skills.
The post sits at the centre of CAFOD and will have a broad overview of key issues affecting CAFOD’s work and the management mechanisms in place to address them. The post holder will have proven experience in providing sound administrative and organisational support at a board/senior management level. This includes excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to interact across different cultural settings. They will have experience in setting meeting agendas, following up on key actions and experience in forward planning with excellent project management skills to support the Board of Trustees.
The post holder will ensure:
- That the governance of meetings and functions in CAFOD (Board of Trustees and relevant committees) are well planned, effective and documented transparently.
- That governance reporting requirements are fulfilled to a high quality and in a timely fashion. This includes minute-taking, serious incident reporting and follow-up actions.
- That they keep abreast of changes in the governance environment and ensure CAFOD is following charity commission regulations appropriately, engaging with relevant Directors accordingly.
- That key stakeholders receive a high-quality service from the small Directorate team. This includes CAFOD colleagues and supporters, Trustees, Catholic Church officials and members of the public.
The role is part of the Governance Team, which has a broad, cross-organisational remit, working closely with CAFOD’s Directors.
The post holder will also manage the Leadership and Governance Assistant who provides direct support to CAFOD’s Executive Director and Executive Team. Line management of this post holder is provided by the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
Ensuring effective Governance (60%)
- Acting as Secretary to the Trustees and Committees, ensuring that the annual meeting cycle (Governance Calendar) is followed, records of meetings are kept and that external submissions (e.g. the annual report, serious incidents, and other reporting) take place in a timely manner.
- Ensuring Trustee and Trustee committee meetings are well-planned (dates, papers, agendas, attendance, etc.) and well-run (including guidance for Chair, minuting, follow-up, action tracking, etc) and that follow up actions are monitored and undertaken.
- Liaise with Trustees on governance matters, including due diligence requests, and events, planning a schedule of Trustee travel to international programmes.
- Overseeing the recruitment and induction of trustees to CAFOD’s Board and coordinating their on-going training and development in conjunction with the Governance Lead Trustee.
- Manage the policy review processes and document management with support from the Leadership and Governance Assistant.
- Ensuring relevant policies come to the Board of Trustees for review in line with the schedule of reporting as outlined in the Governance Calendar. The meeting calendar dates are reviewed on an annual basis in October (so next review is October 2025).
- To be responsible for CAFOD Trustee’s Annual Report being produced in a timely and accurate way, commissioning a consultant.
- Liaising with the Executive Members regarding governance matters ensuring that they are able to provide relevant and accessible information in a timely manner.
- Assist with the communication of CAFOD’s governance work with key donors, supporters and other stakeholders.
- Working with the Governance Lead Trustee to implement any necessary improvements in CAFOD’s governance mechanisms.
Ensuring the effective running of the Executive Team (25%)
- Providing strategic guidance on governance issues and support to CAFOD’s Trustees and Leadership Team.
- Managing the Governance and Leadership assistant to ensure that Executive Team meetings are well-planned (dates, papers, agendas, attendance, etc.) and well-run (including minuting, follow-up, action tracking, etc.).
- Having a broad oversight of all critical projects and support the team to deliver its objectives on time and to budget.
- Brief the Executive Team on matters arising as needed especially governance.
- Process organisational grants and memberships.

Support to the Director (15%)

- When the Governance and Leadership assistant is absent, to manage the diary of the Executive Director. This includes broad insights to plan effective use of their time, including sufficient time to follow up on actions and to prepare for internal and external commitments.
- Provide support on Budget monitoring for the team with input from the Executive Director and L&G assistant.
- When required monitoring the ED inbox, ensuring that requests are followed up and that communications are drafted and signed off, as necessary.
- Forward planning and ensure coordination of travel.
- Prepare briefings and presentations for the ED when required.

Lead, manage, develop and support the Leadership and Governance Assistant by championing CAFOD’s purpose and values through building strong and safe working relationships, setting SMART objectives and conducting performance reviews, and nurturing staff career development. The Role

The Movement Collaboration Lead or Senior Movement Collaboration Lead (depending on experience) will work closely with the Programme Director and the Programme Team to lead the development and delivery of an exciting emerging programme of work building collaboration for economic system change between grassroots groups and new economy organisations.
We are looking for people who are: passionate about addressing economic injustice, are excited about the role of collaboration in creating systems change and capable of creating partnerships and strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
The first twelve months of this programme will take an action inquiry approach to facilitate a mixed group of new economy organisations and grassroots groups through a collaborative process that will develop shared knowledge and practice about how we can effectively and equitably collaborate on economic systems change work through practical experiments, facilitated dialogue and collaborative research.
The role will involve responsibilities for project managing and delivering this work including programme development and delivery, developing partnerships, changemaker recruitment and support, conducting desk research and interviews, managing and running events, supporting project related fundraising, conducting project learning and evaluation and writing a learning report about the project.
Following this first year we plan to scale work on supporting collaboration between grassroots groups and new economy organisations, subject to funding we hope this could become a permanent role.
All programme roles in the People’s Economy team support work across the programme team and we see a postholder likely working on the Action Inquiry for 0.4 FTE and supporting other work strands depending on their relevant skills, experiences and interests for 0.2 FTE.

Job Purpose
The Head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning leads on developing and implementing Conciliation Resources’ strategy, systems and skills for MEL in our peace practice. They ensure that MEL in CR serves to: evaluate the impact of our interventions; improve adaptability and effectiveness of our practice, including the objectives in our Gender Strategy; record, organise and learn from evidence of what works and what doesn’t; improve our knowledge base, culture and practice of capturing and measuring change; and inform CR and the wider peacebuilding sector about how to measure progress in peace initiatives.

Skills required

Main duties and responsibilities:
- To prepare, cook and serve nutritional balanced food with the young people and staff
- To control portions and food cost management.
- Organise and supervise the food service.
- Allocate duties and responsibilities to the rest of the team and provide general supervision/oversight with the young people helping in the kitchen.
- Ordering weekly food stock on line; establishing and maintaining an appropriate stock control methodology.
- Ensure all supplies of food, equipment and cleaning materials are of the right standard.
- To produce menus and food plans with the young people and staff in accordance with guidelines on nutrition and healthy eating.
- Oversee administration of Cooking Open College Network Level 1 and 2 with support
- Cleaning the kitchen, overseeing and maintaining kitchen cleaning schedules
- Compliance and Health and Safety and Food Safety regulation.
- Monitor the performance of young people assisting in the kitchen and reporting any issues to the Operations Manager or line manager.
- Ensure health, hygiene, and cleaning protocols are carried out in accordance with statutory regulations.
- Assist in the control of costs by monitoring and controlling supplies within the budget and by following through with the recommended menus.
