The Head of Communications at CBM UK is a crucial role, with responsibility for increasing the profile of CBM UK to enable the organisation to deliver its strategic objectives. This role has tactical and long-term strategic decision-making responsibility.
The post-holder is responsible for the development and implementation of the requisite communications plans, policies and procedures that are required to deliver CBM UK’s 2026-2030 strategy. Key areas of responsibility include developing brand definition, messaging and presentation; delivering increased media coverage; acting as a spokesperson; and strengthening organisation-wide communications by producing high quality content and through demonstrating evidence of our impact.

Key responsibilities
Strategic (20%)
a. To develop CBM UK’s strategic communications objectives and annual plans to enable CBM UK teams to deliver the 2026-2030 strategy.
b. Improve brand definition, messaging and presentation to ensure CBM UK’s work and positioning is communicated effectively to target audiences.
c. Develop and implement clear communications policies and procedures for CBM staff to follow in order to successfully and cohesively represent the CBM brand.
d. Ensure that the voices of people with disabilities are at the heart of CBM UK communications.
Communications and networking (60%)
External
a. Oversee and deliver media relations activity to meet CBM UK’s objectives. Develop effective working relationships with target media, respond promptly to queries (sometimes out-of-hours). Prepare, issue and ‘sell in’ press releases, ensuring key messages are prominent and act as an organisational media spokesperson. Monitor relevant media coverage to increase effectiveness of activity.
b. Lead and manage the Communications team to deliver communications activity to increase fundraising and advocacy potential from public and sector audiences. This includes responsibility for delivering campaigns, publications, social media posts, blogs and website pages as needed, and acting as an event spokesperson. Content sign-off authority within agreed parameters.
c. Collaborating with the Advocacy and Programmes teams to ensure outputs, evidence and messages are widely disseminated and communicated.

d. Oversee the management and development of the CBM UK website(s) to ensure that it reflects the work, values and mission of CBM UK and that it inspires a range of audiences to take action.
e. Be an outstanding advocate for CBM, delivering communications in line with the vision and values of the charity.
f. Awareness and anticipation of trends and legislation in charity communications, enabling CBM UK to respond and adapt as appropriate.
g. In the event of a humanitarian crisis, contribute to developing an emergency appeal.
Internal
a. Work with CBM UK and global colleagues and partners to ensure appropriate resources are available. This includes oversight of the collection of human-interest stories, images and film that portray people with dignity and respect, while challenging the stigma and misunderstanding around disability and global poverty.
b. Oversee the implementation of the CBM UK Sector Communications Strategy through attending regular meetings and collaboration with Programme and Advocacy teams. To manage the Communications Team to deliver the communications-led activities outlined in the strategy and ensure advocacy and evidence messaging and outputs are effectively communicated.
c. Build excellent working relationships with the CEO and Board.
d. Regularly review, update and provide training to CBM UK staff on the Crisis Communications Media Plan and be a member of the Crisis Communications Management Team.
e. Help increase CBM UK’s network of high-profile supporters to support fundraising and advocacy: maintain prospects spreadsheet, research contact details and background details, prepare briefs.
f. Support fundraising and advocacy teams to increase CBM UK’s network of high-profile supporters.

Leadership and people management (10%)
a. Support and inspire direct report in line with CBM UK’s staff management policies and procedures. Ensure team members are appropriately trained, briefed and motivated to achieve their objectives and meet targets and recruit to posts where relevant. Regular 121s and appraisal reviews.
b. Serve as a member of the Senior Management Team
Planning, reporting, budgets (10%)
a. Develop and report on key performance indicators, milestones and targets to facilitate informed decisions and improved working practice.
b. Plan and manage budgets to ensure funds are used to maximum effect.
c. Work with the Data and Insights Team to ensure appropriate recording of communications activity through the database (Salesforce) or through integration with other databases and platforms.

Other
a. Work with other teams, including the CBM Global Federation, to maximise collaboration opportunities and integrated working.
b. Help develop a culture of enthusiasm, continual improvement and success which reflects the ambitions of CBM UK.
c. Occasional out of normal office working hours. Occasional travel in the UK and internationally.
d. Other duties as required by the Director of Fundraising, Impact & Communications.

With oversight by the Director of Science and Regulatory Affairs, you will support the collection, preparation, organisation, and use of the Science team’s key information resources which contribute to ensuring that our work and external communications are underpinned by accurate and robust evidence.

You will support the Science team in inputting to marketing and fundraising efforts as well the preparation of press releases and other forms of external communication. Your work will contribute to ensuring that the organisation’s advocacy, media and supporter communications are based on accurate, evidence-based science.

You will also work with the organisation’s press and media function to help maintain the quality of media coverage relating to animal testing and animal-free science. In collaboration with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners you will work to support research and contribute to the production of high-quality scientific material which can be used to advance the agenda to end all animal testing, including through the provision of the organisation’s digital education service.

Key responsibilities:

• Support the preparation, organisation, and maintenance of key Science team information resources which underpin our work and provide support for their use across the organisation. This includes responsibility for maintaining a well-organised central knowledge base to ensure our work is easily tracked, accessed and referenced.
• Support and input into research and contribute to the production of high-quality scientific material, including briefings, reports, presentations, posters, and summaries of the latest developments to support the Science team’s work. Contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely press releases and support increased media coverage for our organisation.
• Support the preparation and maintenance of up-to-date briefings for internal and external use on emerging trends and latest developments in non-animal approaches, as well as helping to maintain the organisation’s specialist expertise in key regulatory toxicology topics.

Job purpose

The Clinical Lead will play a pivotal role in leading and developing Action for ME’s Healthcare Services with the Operations Director, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care for individuals affected by Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). The postholder will be responsible for clinical oversight, service development, and leadership, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to enhance outcomes for children and adults with ME and will be the CQC Registered Manager for the service.

At present, the Healthcare Services is a small team with two doctors (GPs) and two physios. Our counsellors are overseen by a Counselling Lead Supervisor and our multi-faith Chaplains are supported by our Lead Chaplain.

We are keen to develop and expand our services, building on the small amount of spot purchasing from local commissioning boards and exploring a diagnosing and prescribing offer. We are also keen to explore the potential of increasing the range of disciplines offered within the team. You will play a key role in driving the strategy for our Healthcare Services with the Director of Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical support and expertise to Action for ME's Healthcare Services, ensuring evidence-based, person-centred care.

• Act as Registered Manager for CQC (Care Quality Commission) purposes and ensure that the service meets all required standards.

• Lead the development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and best practices in line with national guidelines and regulatory requirements.

• Supervise and support healthcare professionals within the service, offering guidance, mentorship, and training.

• Designated safeguarding officer for Healthcare Services.

Person specification

• A registered healthcare professional (e.g., doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, or occupational therapist) with active professional registration (GMC, NMC, HCPC or equivalent) OR an experienced commissioner of healthcare services with experience of quality assurance, safeguarding and compliance.

• Extensive clinical experience in chronic illness management OR sound understanding of clinical practice, ideally with expertise in ME or related conditions and a clear understanding of the challenges faced by people with ME.

• An understanding of Care Quality Commission regulatory requirements.

• Proven leadership experience in a healthcare setting, including team management and service development.

• Strong understanding of evidence-based practice and clinical governance.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter, and someone who is passionate about the work of CJA members. 

The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will monitor and map the criminal justice policy landscape, tracking developments across the system. They will engage with MPs, civil servants and key stakeholders, bringing evidence from our membership and the voices of those impacted directly by the criminal justice system to government to influence change.

The postholder will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and have demonstrated evidence of impact in policy and public affairs. They should be confident in building relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, be a collaborative and inspiring team player, show commitment to our values and share a passion for the CJA’s vision and mission.

Main responsibilities

Public Affairs (50% time)

• Develop and implement the CJA’s public affairs and influencing strategy to advance the CJA's objectives.
• Work with CJA members on influencing specific legislation, including campaigning around bills, writing amendments, and working with MPs and Peers to promote them within the legislative process.
• Stakeholder engagement (Parliament): Build and maintain relationships with key policy makers and parliamentarians through face-to-face meetings, providing briefings to MPs and Lords for Parliamentary debates, preparing written/oral questions, and attending Select Committees, APPGs, Parliamentary receptions and other relevant roundtables and events.
• Stakeholder engagement (other): Build and maintain relationships with other key stakeholders, including Police & Crime Commissioners, the Victims Commissioner, HM Inspectorates, civil servants, and other relevant bodies.

Policy and Research (40% time)

• Monitor policy and political debates and developments on criminal justice issues, horizon-scanning emerging policy issues, and where appropriate, disseminate and brief colleagues and CJA members.
• Maintain a repository of evidence briefings from CJA members.
• Identify proactive and reactive opportunities to promote and embed CJA and members recommendations and research.
• Produce high quality and influential policy briefs, reports, position papers, and responses to consultations, to advocate for changes in policy and practice put forward by CJA members.
• Lead on the monitoring of policy engagement and impact by using our evaluation tools and work with external evaluators as required to capture impact and utilise learning.
• Work with CJA members, people directly impacted by the justice system and other key stakeholders to harness and amplify their expertise and insights.
• Lead the co-ordination and establishment of member expert groups to inform our policy work.
• Develop opportunities for joint working with researchers / research organisations and manage that partnership work, including co-ordinating the CJA research symposium.

Other (10% time)

• Work with the Communications and Engagement Manager to respond to media and other communication opportunities to promote the CJA’s work and to contribute to national debate on criminal justice issues.
• Work with the CJA team to recommend and secure relevant speakers and presenters for CJA meetings and events. 
• Support the Communications and Engagement Manager to develop content for the website and other internal and external communications, such as blogs and articles.
• Contribute to the general administration and delivery of CJA programmes, events and overall objectives.
• Work with the Director to support the development of potential fundraising bids and reporting progress to funders.
• Conduct the duties of the job description in accordance with the operational policies of the CJA, including the Diversity and Adult Safeguarding Policies.

About the role

As Head of Guidance, you will oversee the production, quality assurance and innovation of our clinical guidance and patient information resources. You will work closely with the Director of Clinical Quality, leading a small and dedicated team and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders including clinicians, patients, partner organisations and specialist societies.

Carers Centre Tower Hamlets (CCTH) is a small, committed organisation dedicated to supporting unpaid carers through a variety of specialist services, from social and therapeutic activities to emotional, mentoring, advocacy, and signposting support. We aim to enrich and empower unpaid carers’ lives, providing them with the support they so selflessly give to others. We are now recruiting to our team someone who will lead on our work to support Carers as part of the Barnsley Street Mental Health Project. 

Project Overview:  

The Barnsley Street Project is a Community Mental Health Pilot aimed at delivering continuous, person-centred mental health care to underserved populations in PCN1 (Bethnal Green). This initiative is a collaborative effort between East London Foundation Trust (ELFT), Tower Hamlets Mental Health Alliance (THMHA), and the Look Ahead Housing Association. Driven by the voice of lived experience, the project is designed to address the systemic gaps in mental health services, particularly for marginalised communities.  

Purpose of the role:  

To identify and coordinate an effective support service for unpaid carers who support residents who access the Barnsley Street Project, with the aim of supporting carers to have their needs met as well as develop a healthy and sustainable caring role.    

To facilitate access for unpaid carers in the Barnsley Street Project to appropriate support services, both statutory and voluntary. To provide comprehensive support and information to families and carers. To raise awareness of carers’ needs with professionals in the project environment and contribute to carer friendly policies.   

The post will involve the direct provision of services, referral to and between services, collaborative work with other local agencies and outreach work. The post-holder will provide advocacy, referral, and ongoing practical and emotional support to unpaid carers through individual and group work.    

Responsibilities: 

• Identification and Support: Proactively identify carers of residents who utilise the Barnsley Street Project, and provide them with tailored support, ensuring their well-being is prioritised. 

• Information and Guidance: Offer information about available resources, support services, and community networks to assist carers effectively.

We are seeking a Dementia Carers Support Officer who can make a positive difference to the lives of unpaid carers in the diverse communities of Redbridge. We are a Queen's Award winning charity with over 30 years experience of supporting unpaid carers in Redbridge. Epic is looking for a Development Manager to support the activities of the UK Development Team to help us ‘make giving the norm’.

The Development Manager will work with the UK Director in our small team in the UK, as well as working closely with colleagues in Paris and Brussels.

Key Responsibilities :

With support from the UK Director, the Development Manager will work collaboratively with the Director and wider UK team and Development colleagues in Paris and Brussels to execute the fundraising strategy in the UK. The Development Manager is a key role in a small team, and will contribute new ideas, networks and results to help us meet our income targets and therefore create more positive impact for children and young people globally. 1. Business Development (65%)

• Lead prospect research and outreach efforts to expand Epic’s prospect donor pool in the UK: monitor the fundraising ecosystem, conduct in-depth prospect research and engage in proactive outreach campaigns through LinkedIn, emailing, digital networking and in-person events. This will include attending early morning and evening events as required.
• Set conversion objectives and support conversion from leads to donations
• Identify and secure lead opportunities within networks and events
• Pitch Epic and its various Giving Solutions to potential donors, and build tailored proposals when needed
• Maintain high discipline and consistency in follow-up with leads and donors: use Epic’s CRM to build a consistent pipeline of prospects, as well as maintaining the database with accurate and up to date donor information
• Evaluate and monitor the return on investment (ROI) of events and fundraising campaigns
• Prepare compelling fundraising communications, materials and presentations for donor meetings and events

2. Nurturing & engaging the UK Community (20%)

• Contribute to Epic’s engagement strategy for current donors to ensure an 80% renewal rate
• Maintain regular touchpoints with a subgroup of donors through activities such as sharing monitoring reports, organising project visits and volunteering opportunities in the UK, and scheduling regular calls and face to face meetings. 
• Act as the main point of contact for a subset of donors and answer their enquiries in a timely manner
• Craft and manage engagement opportunities such as UK events and webinars, including drinks, talks, breakfast events, and provide support to the organisation for the annual gala nights. Support will be provided for certain events by our in-house dedicated Events team.

3. Fundraising-related administration (15%)

• Manage donor-related administrative tasks, such as regular use of Epic’s CRM (Salesforce), donation forms, meeting preparation, minutes (where applicable), and 
• Process all donations, using Salesforce and related donation platforms, in a timely manner each month
• Liaise with international fund vehicles, such as Myriad USA, to ensure all international donation commitments are fulfilled. 

Position Requirements :

• Candidate must have the right to work in the United Kingdom
• Excellent level of English (both spoken and written) required
• Proficiency in French (written and spoken) highly desirable 
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a sales, fundraising or business development role, with demonstrable experience of securing 5- and 6-figure gifts
• Experience within the charity sector is desirable but not required
• Experience using software packages such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Canva and other applications
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to attend external events (including evening events) and comfortable networking with a variety of people across different communities

The Epic UK team is a small but dedicated team. The role requires flexibility and a start-up attitude. This is a full time, permanent position, based in the London office with the opportunity for two remote working days each week.
