About the Gatehouse:

It is a volunteer and donation-led registered charity supported by the whole Oxfordshire community, including churches and congregations of other faiths in Oxford. The Gatehouse community drop-in centre offers free support services for adults aged 25+ who are homeless, vulnerably housed, on low income, and/or looking for company and community. The Gatehouse offers a free café (six evenings a week), therapeutic workshops, and a bespoke one-to-one support service (over two evenings and one afternoon a week). The project also delivers an outreach service, an independent counselling service, and supports the Lived Experience Advisory Forum (LEAF). The Gatehouse is experiencing rapid growth and is eager to expand its leadership team to support its exciting plans.

As the CEO, you will spearhead The Gatehouse's mission and vision alongside the Board, ensuring stakeholders receive the best services.

You will be a visionary lead, driving organisational success through supporting your dedicated team of staff and volunteers, managing budgets, and overseeing fundraising efforts, while championing The Gatehouse's mission to serve vulnerable adults in Oxfordshire. You'll forge strong partnerships across various sectors, including donors and policymakers, and act as the public ambassador for The Gatehouse.

Community Fundraising Manager

The Mencap Community and Events Team has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, motivated and passionate fundraiser,  dedicated to raising as much funds as possible to help make the UK the best place to live for people with a learning disability to join our team as Senior Community Fundraising Manager covering England and Wales.

Covering the England and Wales the Community Fundraising Manager will be responsible for managing various income streams across the Community portfolio working closely with the wider team.

Within this role, you will achieve agreed fundraising targets through effective management, support and cultivation of both existing and new regional supporters including: individuals, groups, associations, local corporates and schools whilst maximising the current portfolio of Mencap owned products. You will research, identify and develop new community fundraising opportunities, areas of potential support and build a robust pipeline for restricted grants and corporate partners.

The role is home based. There will be travel around the areas that the role covers.

This position is a permanent, full-time role to work 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday. The nature of community fundraising is that there will be evening and weekend work, for which time off in lieu will be given.

Key skills and requirements (essential):

· The ability to develop, implement and monitor strategic plans, present budgets and interpret financial information

· The ability to research, assess and initiate new opportunities within the context of an overall plan

· Able to recruit, develop and train, motivate and manage individuals and teams of Volunteers to give their very best

Our senior team has an exceptional skill set, and we recognise that candidates with all the skills we need simply may not exist. But don’t worry, if you have some of the skills we want but lack others – we will train you to fill those gaps. This will include thorough training in the delivery of our well-respected training courses. 

Our staff have the choice to work wholly or partly from home or from our office in Tooting, SW London, during regular operational hours (08.30-17.30). If working from home, staff must have a working environment suitable for holding video-call meetings/training sessions with clients. 

Wherever you work, you will interact regularly with senior team members to gain new skills and exchange ideas.

Salary and annual leave

Hours:

This is a full time position of 37.5 hours per week over Monday to Friday.

From 1st July 2024 we are piloting a four day working week across the whole of the UK organisation. This pilot is planned to run for 12 months, at which point a decision will be made by our Board of Trustees as to whether this will become permanent. Success of the trial relies on the organisation being able to achieve the same or improved level of impact in four working days as five, with staff experiencing either the same or improved levels of wellbeing.

During the four day week pilot, working hours for this position will be reduced to 30 hours per week, spanning Monday to Thursday, with no reduction in salary. This will be a temporary change to the contractual terms with the successful candidate. The appointed person must be prepared to increase their working hours to 37.5 hours per week if a return to a five-day working week is decided.

Who you are:

We are looking for someone who can, through compelling and inspiring writing and communication, engage donors and potential funders in a variety of different formats, whether that’s email updates, thanking them for their support, or drafting a funding proposal. Ultimately, you will need to be able to bring them closer to our work, so that they can understand their individual contribution and the impact their donations can have, and are more likely to take action as a result.

You will also need to be able to build strong relationships, with the ability to understand the motivations of our donors, demonstrate the impact of our work, spot opportunities to engage them, and ask for their financial support at the right time.

Many of our donors come from the Effective Altruism (EA) community, so having an understanding of this community and how to engage it will be helpful. You will help to grow our supporters within the space, raising our profile and spotting opportunities to develop relationships with prospective new donors and funders.

Home-based, you will enjoy collaborating and working independently. As a self-starter, you are able to work autonomously and use your initiative to solve problems and see projects through from start-to-end. You’ll thrive on a varied and interesting mix of tasks and projects.

Primary Duties:

• Thanking and stewarding some of our key major donors - acting as a direct point of contact for their queries and questions, keeping them updated with our work, thanking them for their support and donations, building strong, long-term relationships, and developing them as prospects or donors to elicit further gifts, through regular email, telephone and face-to-face contact, thank you cards, networking, written updates, online and face-to-face meetings, and other feedback as appropriate.

• Creating and submitting funding asks to secure funding and achieve your own fundraising targets and those of the wider organisation, with a focus on securing multi-year funding. This will include creating cases for support and funding briefs for specific projects, working with the Programs Team to pull together all relevant information, as well as completing bespoke funding proposals. You will also need to be able to identify opportunities, know when is the right time to make an ask and what type of ask it should be, whether a one-off gift, multi-year funding, unrestricted or for a specific project, or match funding to help leverage a specific campaign or appeal.

• Coordinating our funding pipeline - managing and monitoring what stages our major givers are at in their cultivation journey, tracking details of funding applications/asks made, managing deadlines for applications and monitoring reports, tracking and reconciling donations and providing receipts, securing relevant funding agreements, and capturing the motivations, giving history and details of interactions of our donors.

• Leading on the development of our quarterly newsletter - a document designed as a key engagement tool specifically for our major gifts audience, to keep them up to date on our latest news, victories and forthcoming plans.

• Mapping out and developing our major donor programme for the next twelve months and beyond - planning a calendar of content and touch points to further cultivate and steward our key donors, such as exclusive webinars, networking meet-ups or larger fundraising events.

• Coordinating the major donor version of our annual supporter survey - collaborating with colleagues to align this to our general supporter survey, targeting questions with a major donor audience in mind, collating and analysing responses, and using them to inform and develop our major donor programme.

• Hosting donors at events - inviting them to protests and other events, such as our legal challenge against the use of Frankenchickens, and making sure they are well looked after.

• Prospect research - identifying, researching and assessing potential new major gifts prospects, and then developing cultivation plans for further engagement.

• Supporting the Head of Development with our trust and grant fundraising. This could include collaborating with consultants to complete prospect research and applications, creating and submitting low-level funding bids, and working with colleagues from across the organisation, to coordinate the submission of monitoring reports for our funders.

• Helping drive understanding of and engagement with fundraising across the organisation, with staff, volunteers and trustees - giving presentations, leading workshops with other departments, engaging staff, volunteers and trustees in the thanking process (i.e. getting them to send thank you cards to donors), and regularly updating the wider team on fundraising progress.

• Supporting other fundraising campaigns and initiatives, such as our end of year appeal, working with your colleagues in the Development Team to help find match funders from our pool of our major givers.

• Attending relevant events and conferences, to meet and cultivate prospective new funders and steward existing donors, develop learning and understanding, network with your fundraising peers, keep up to date with the fundraising sector and look for opportunities to raise our profile amongst funders and donors within the EA community.

In addition:

• Participating in team meetings including note-taking and facilitation.

• Attending in-person team workshops several times a year.

• Demonstrating commitment to creating a stronger and more effective animal protection movement through inclusion and belonging, recognising the need for all of us to do better for social justice on a personal and organisational level.

Purpose of the post

The Finance Business Partner plays a crucial role within HDR UK, as the key point of contact and financial support for the Institute Office teams. The Finance Business Partner supports key non- finance stakeholders to provide timely and insightful analysis and reporting and supports with the alignment of financial plans to operational and strategic priorities. The role will support the HDR UK’s non- Core funds and programmatic areas and will be responsible for proactive fund financial management, supporting the Fund budget holders in ensuring appropriate planning and utilisation of the fund expenditure. The role is responsible for maintaining clear and effective communication between the Finance team and the wider business and for ensuring that financial concepts and priorities are understood by the programme teams.

Main responsibilities

• Work with Budget Holders to manage financial performance, forecasts, and budgeting including understanding financial opportunities and risk for the area of business partnership.
• Hold responsibility for the financial management of a number of large and strategic funds, including financial reporting to funders and maximising fund utilisation.
• Lead on monthly reporting to Programme teams, including posting month end journals, meeting with Budget Holders to discuss performance and budget variance and providing commentary and analysis on reports.
• Work with the Associate Directors of the Finance team to plan, deliver, and review the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
• Support with the continuous review and update of the 5-year financial plan.
• Support with projects and new process development to continuously improve and evolve our approach to internal financial reporting and modern finance business partnering.
• Support the Finance Business Partnering function with ad hoc reports and grant management and reporting.
• Provide training and advice to individuals internal and external to the Finance department.
• Support the Finance Officer with ad hoc queries and helpdesk needs.
• Support the Junior Finance Business Partner in utilising JET Reports to generate monthly management accounts for our Senior Leadership Team and Budget Holders, ensuring their accuracy and timely delivery.

Experience

• CCAB qualified or part qualified, or with a minimum of 4 years practical experience in financial analysis or business partnering roles.
• Experience of grant or fund management, reporting, and liaising with external funding bodies.

The following is desired but not essential:

• Prior experience of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
• Prior experience of JET reporting software.
• Experience developing financial models.
• Experience of producing financial reports.
• Experience of working in the higher education or not-for-profit sectors.

This involves creative development of new and engaging resources and fundraising materials, writing passionate and impactful fundraising messaging, and creating internal excitement and fun during Christian Aid Week. The Role:

The successful Training lead will head our “Rise for Change” domestic abuse training programme and have the exciting opportunity to continue to grow the programme’s success to date. Rise for Change is a trauma informed domestic abuse training programme for non-specialist professionals. Uniquely created by our subject matter experts, our training directly addresses the need for intersectional and trauma informed domestic abuse training for professionals in all sectors. Our aim is to empower participants, no matter their professional role, to be able to respond safely and appropriately to domestic abuse both within the workplace and in the wider scope of their lives.

The role will be responsible for the delivery and upkeep of our current training packages, development of further training  and the management of current/ new stakeholder relationships. This role will also serve as a subject matter expert on domestic abuse across our global digital programmes.

• Work in line with our values.
• Deliver remote training to professionals, organisations and businesses (some flexibility may be required for limited ad-hoc in-person training).
• Upkeep current training packages and development key content as required.
• Complete needs analysis of the sector and ensure our packages remain in line with need and best practice.
• Maintain new and established relationships with key partners and stakeholders through regular meetings, problem-solving and support to ensure the longevity of relationships and continuous buy-in.
• Engaging with organisations and stakeholders to gain their custom, establish needs and tailor packages/delivery to suit their needs.

• A thorough understanding of domestic abuse and gender-based violence through a trauma informed and intersectional lens, including the impact and mitigation of vicarious trauma.
• An experienced, highly skilled trainer with the ability to engage people through remote and in-person delivery.
• Hold a “Train the Trainer” qualification or be willing to obtain one during onboarding.
• Have a good understanding of the nuances of culture, race, sexual orientation and gender identity within domestic abuse and sexual violence, and be committed to intersectional ways of working.
• Knowledge of adult learning techniques.
• Have excellent communication, negotiation and advisory skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals.

We are seeking a proactive, dynamic IT professional to support in the development and maintenance of our information and digital systems. Main Role & Responsibilities 

The post holder will support the Information Systems Manager to ensure the IT systems/platforms are developed and are fit for purpose for the technical requirements. This role will be responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of Ygam Connect (Sharepoint intranet), including migrating files and business processes, liasing with the external developer and working with Connect Champions across Ygam.

As Viva’s Head of Impact, you will work closely with the Network Partnerships Team Leadership to lead the development of a new approach to Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning, with the primary purpose of supporting partner networks to know their impact and share learning with each other. You will enable partner networks and Viva to build, measure and learn together, evaluating the effectiveness of programmes and methodologies, adapting them to ensure desired impact is reached and sharing learning with each other and with other development partners.

You will also work to ensure all programmes funded by Viva are accountable, well-monitored and contribute to our learning environment with clear opportunities to learn and adapt throughout the programme delivery and reporting processes.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

• Shared leadership: You will contribute to strategic decision making as part of the Network Partnerships Leadership Team and be part of shaping the vision and practice of Viva as an organisation from a Christian faith perspective.
• Viva MEAL framework: You will develop and manage a robust MEAL Framework for Viva
• Network health: You will work closely with the Network Partnerships Leadership Team to review Viva’s Network Health Check process and develop a system designed to support partner networks to build strong and sustainable networks
• Reviewing project delivery: You will work closely with Network Coaches to agree the most efficient outworking of the MEAL Framework with the Viva partner networks for projects where Viva has brokered funding.
• Evaluating Viva’s work: You will lead the process of evaluating Viva’s work, including but not limited to needs assessments, baseline survey, final evaluation, data quality audits, collecting monitoring data, network satisfaction surveys, and field supervision.
• Representing Viva: You will at different times and ways represent Viva externally, for example, through speaking in churches, prayer meetings, meeting with other Christian organisations.

This role will suit you if you:

• have at least a Bachelor’s degree in impact measurement or international development with a MEAL module, or a related field

If based in the UK, the full-time salary range is £36,000 to £40,000 per annum (pro-rata), depending on experience.
