The Head of Communications at CBM UK is a crucial role, with responsibility for increasing the profile of CBM UK to enable the organisation to deliver its strategic objectives. This role has tactical and long-term strategic decision-making responsibility.
The post-holder is responsible for the development and implementation of the requisite communications plans, policies and procedures that are required to deliver CBM UK’s 2026-2030 strategy. Key areas of responsibility include developing brand definition, messaging and presentation; delivering increased media coverage; acting as a spokesperson; and strengthening organisation-wide communications by producing high quality content and through demonstrating evidence of our impact.

Key responsibilities
Strategic (20%)
a. To develop CBM UK’s strategic communications objectives and annual plans to enable CBM UK teams to deliver the 2026-2030 strategy.
b. Improve brand definition, messaging and presentation to ensure CBM UK’s work and positioning is communicated effectively to target audiences.
c. Develop and implement clear communications policies and procedures for CBM staff to follow in order to successfully and cohesively represent the CBM brand.
d. Ensure that the voices of people with disabilities are at the heart of CBM UK communications.
Communications and networking (60%)
External
a. Oversee and deliver media relations activity to meet CBM UK’s objectives. Develop effective working relationships with target media, respond promptly to queries (sometimes out-of-hours). Prepare, issue and ‘sell in’ press releases, ensuring key messages are prominent and act as an organisational media spokesperson. Monitor relevant media coverage to increase effectiveness of activity.
b. Lead and manage the Communications team to deliver communications activity to increase fundraising and advocacy potential from public and sector audiences. This includes responsibility for delivering campaigns, publications, social media posts, blogs and website pages as needed, and acting as an event spokesperson. Content sign-off authority within agreed parameters.
c. Collaborating with the Advocacy and Programmes teams to ensure outputs, evidence and messages are widely disseminated and communicated.

d. Oversee the management and development of the CBM UK website(s) to ensure that it reflects the work, values and mission of CBM UK and that it inspires a range of audiences to take action.
e. Be an outstanding advocate for CBM, delivering communications in line with the vision and values of the charity.
f. Awareness and anticipation of trends and legislation in charity communications, enabling CBM UK to respond and adapt as appropriate.
g. In the event of a humanitarian crisis, contribute to developing an emergency appeal.
Internal
a. Work with CBM UK and global colleagues and partners to ensure appropriate resources are available. This includes oversight of the collection of human-interest stories, images and film that portray people with dignity and respect, while challenging the stigma and misunderstanding around disability and global poverty.
b. Oversee the implementation of the CBM UK Sector Communications Strategy through attending regular meetings and collaboration with Programme and Advocacy teams. To manage the Communications Team to deliver the communications-led activities outlined in the strategy and ensure advocacy and evidence messaging and outputs are effectively communicated.
c. Build excellent working relationships with the CEO and Board.
d. Regularly review, update and provide training to CBM UK staff on the Crisis Communications Media Plan and be a member of the Crisis Communications Management Team.
e. Help increase CBM UK’s network of high-profile supporters to support fundraising and advocacy: maintain prospects spreadsheet, research contact details and background details, prepare briefs.
f. Support fundraising and advocacy teams to increase CBM UK’s network of high-profile supporters.

Leadership and people management (10%)
a. Support and inspire direct report in line with CBM UK’s staff management policies and procedures. Ensure team members are appropriately trained, briefed and motivated to achieve their objectives and meet targets and recruit to posts where relevant. Regular 121s and appraisal reviews.
b. Serve as a member of the Senior Management Team
Planning, reporting, budgets (10%)
a. Develop and report on key performance indicators, milestones and targets to facilitate informed decisions and improved working practice.
b. Plan and manage budgets to ensure funds are used to maximum effect.
c. Work with the Data and Insights Team to ensure appropriate recording of communications activity through the database (Salesforce) or through integration with other databases and platforms.

Other
a. Work with other teams, including the CBM Global Federation, to maximise collaboration opportunities and integrated working.
b. Help develop a culture of enthusiasm, continual improvement and success which reflects the ambitions of CBM UK.
c. Occasional out of normal office working hours. Occasional travel in the UK and internationally.

The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will monitor and map the criminal justice policy landscape, tracking developments across the system. They will engage with MPs, civil servants and key stakeholders, bringing evidence from our membership and the voices of those impacted directly by the criminal justice system to government to influence change.

The postholder will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and have demonstrated evidence of impact in policy and public affairs. They should be confident in building relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, be a collaborative and inspiring team player, show commitment to our values and share a passion for the CJA’s vision and mission.

Main responsibilities

Public Affairs (50% time)

• Develop and implement the CJA’s public affairs and influencing strategy to advance the CJA's objectives.
• Work with CJA members on influencing specific legislation, including campaigning around bills, writing amendments, and working with MPs and Peers to promote them within the legislative process.
• Stakeholder engagement (Parliament): Build and maintain relationships with key policy makers and parliamentarians through face-to-face meetings, providing briefings to MPs and Lords for Parliamentary debates, preparing written/oral questions, and attending Select Committees, APPGs, Parliamentary receptions and other relevant roundtables and events.
• Stakeholder engagement (other): Build and maintain relationships with other key stakeholders, including Police & Crime Commissioners, the Victims Commissioner, HM Inspectorates, civil servants, and other relevant bodies.

Policy and Research (40% time)

• Monitor policy and political debates and developments on criminal justice issues, horizon-scanning emerging policy issues, and where appropriate, disseminate and brief colleagues and CJA members.
• Maintain a repository of evidence briefings from CJA members.
• Identify proactive and reactive opportunities to promote and embed CJA and members recommendations and research.
• Produce high quality and influential policy briefs, reports, position papers, and responses to consultations, to advocate for changes in policy and practice put forward by CJA members.
• Lead on the monitoring of policy engagement and impact by using our evaluation tools and work with external evaluators as required to capture impact and utilise learning.
• Work with CJA members, people directly impacted by the justice system and other key stakeholders to harness and amplify their expertise and insights.

About Us

The Greater Manchester Women’s Support Alliance (GMWSA) was established in 2016 by seven organisations who provide support services to women across all ten boroughs in Greater Manchester (GM) who may be vulnerable or have unmet support needs.

We came together as the GMWSA in order to ensure that our collective voice is heard by policy makers and commissioners of services. We represent the interests of our beneficiaries and service users, we share good practice and experience and ensure that no service operates in isolation. GMWSA is now formed of nine Member and Associate Member women’s centres having a presence in each of the 10 local authority areas across GM all of whom are collectively funded to deliver support services across GM to women either involved in the Criminal Justice System, or whose vulnerability and marginalisation leaves them at risk of offending, but all also have individual funding streams to ensure their provision reaches every woman in need of support.

Alliance members offer a full range of services to women who need support around issues such as domestic abuse, housing, mental health, substance misuse, education, employment, training, and confidence/self-esteem, all delivered with a trauma responsive approach.

Purpose of the Role 

We are looking for a Chief Executive Officer to join GMWSA to transform the Alliance to meet future challenges around function and funding.

You will shape and implement the strategic direction of the Alliance, ensure the smooth running of the charity, provide leadership to staff, support the Board of Trustees to fulfil its strategic and governance duties and ensure the delivery of grants and contracts.

Strategic Direction

• Provide leadership and direction for the organisation and its staff in line with our vision.
• Clearly articulate and communicate GMWSAs vision, mission and values to staff, partners and others.
• Drive GMWSA’s strategy and business plan while establishing clear targets.

In this role we are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic manager to support, develop and manage a talented team which delivers high-quality person-centered services to VCFSE organisations.

As the Capacity Building Manager your responsibilities will include;

• Leading the development and alignment of the VCFSE Organisational Development services team to achieve its KPIs.
• Working with Deputy Director of Operations and Business Development to grow existing services and explore new opportunities and income growth for service development.
• Write funding applications and proposals to secure resources for new and existing services.
• Manage and create budgets, ensuring cost-effective service delivery and financial control.
• Drive business strategy to meet organisational targets and standards.
• Provide effective and inclusive leadership to the VCFSE Organisational Development services team which focuses on best practices and quality outcomes.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, commissioners, funders, and voluntary sector organisations.

The successful candidate should have previous experience of managing staff, strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and a flexible and self-motivated approach. You should also have excellent organisational and prioritisation skills as there will often be the need to manage a busy and varied workload. Regular travel around the county is required for this role therefore candidates will need a driving license.

SPEAR is a lifeline to hundreds of people each year who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness across six London boroughs. We provide essential outreach support, a variety of accommodation options, tenancy support services and vital health programmes. In 2024 we supported 804 people experiencing homelessness. This included 466 people found rough sleeping, 227 people in accommodation-based and floating support and 84 young people aged 16-25.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Corporate Fundraising Manager to lead and grow our corporate giving and partnerships income stream. Corporate Giving at SPEAR comprises just over 20% of our fundraised income, with a mix of direct giving, local COY partnerships and employee fundraising. This is a key role within the Fundraising and Engagement team, responsible for developing and managing relationships with corporate partners to generate sustainable income and deepen engagement with SPEAR’s mission.

You will also play a strategic role in identifying new prospects, securing partnerships, and delivering excellent account management to all existing supporters. We're looking for someone to be the regional representative for Crimestoppers in the Avon and Somerset area, with specific responsibility for;

• Creation and delivery of local/county/regionally specific crime-based campaigns in partnership with law enforcement agencies, local committees and volunteers.
• Coordination of cross border and national activity in support of ROCU’S, the NCA and other bodies such as the GLAA.
• Identifying and maximising funding opportunities for our charity including RM post, campaign activity, Fearless workers and for Business Development.
• Enabling volunteer committees to develop so they can operate effectively and achieve their full potential.
• Act as Crimestoppers spokesperson for the region covered, regarding media interviews.

About the role

Funded by the Department for Education, the National Peer Support Service for England is a game-changing service that creates a sustainable and life-changing legacy. It builds on Kinship’s 10 years of experience in developing peer support groups and over two years of delivering a national service that has set up 145 new groups.

This role is community-based and focuses on engaging kinship carers, bringing them together to form peer support groups, and supporting them to achieve independence at which point they will receive ongoing support from our national Hub.

You will do this by working with local authorities, schools, other charities and community groups. Arranging information events such as coffee mornings to engage kinship carers. You’ll create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive community for kinship carers, building belonging, resilience, and empowerment.

About you

We are seeking a dynamic person located in or close to Greater Manchester, and willing to travel into priority areas across the North West of England who possesses the drive, passion, and skills to: 

• Establish new peer support groups across a diverse range of communities 
• Supervise a small team of Peer Support Development Officers 
• Demonstrate the energy and enthusiasm required to inspire yourself and your team to achieve key targets and objectives 
• Work collaboratively within the Peer Support and Community Team, as well as throughout the broader organisation, to ensure the delivery of safe and effective support services for the kinship community
• Support the sustainability of existing Peer Support Groups, taking the lead from the Hub (our network support Team)
• Keep precise records to create reports, extract learning, and share key insights throughout Kinship, enabling the organisation to enhance our services and products continuously

In the role of Senior Peer Support Development Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, consistent, and sustainable peer support service that has a significant impact on the lives of kinship carers. 

You should have experience in developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with various community-based stakeholders such as local authorities, health services, schools, charities, and kinship carers. You will need to understand the key success factors involved in establishing and developing new in-person groups in areas of high need, as well as how to support existing groups in their journey toward sustainability.

An essential requirement of the role is to be a driver with access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Essential requirements include:

• Experience of team leadership or line management and supervision of a small team and managing performance to deliver targets effectively.
• Proven experience in reaching and establishing strong relationships with hidden or underserved communities in person.
• Experience developing peer support communities.
• Proven experience of recruiting, managing, training and supporting volunteers in community settings with an emphasis on understanding and working with vulnerable volunteers.  
• Proven experience of ensuring outcomes and impacts of services is evidenced through high-quality data collection.  
• Evidence of delivering training/support to volunteers, 
• Strong facilitation skills and essential experience of peer support or user led groups with charity beneficiaries.  
• Understanding of safeguarding particularly around vulnerable families.

VOX (Voices of Experience) Scotland is recruiting for a Policy & Participation Officer to support the team based at our Mental Health Foundation Glasgow office.

VOX is Scotland’s national voice on mental health, we represent our members’ views to Scotland’s politicians and health professionals to make sure Scotland’s laws and mental health services reflect our members needs and interests. VOX’s Board of Directors includes individuals who have lived and living experience of mental ill health. The role of the Policy and Participation Officer will be to work alongside the VOX Senior Development Officer to progress the key aims within VOX’s business plan, including delivering on specific project and policy objectives and achieving required outcomes.

What does the role involve?

• To support VOX Scotland respond to consultations which will influence the policies and laws in Scotland which impact people living with mental illness.
• To gather insights and experiences from our members and the wider public to enable us to deliver research and evidence around the experiences of people living with mental illness.
• To help develop opportunities for those who have, or have had mental distress to influence the development of services with which they may engage.

What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?

• Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of human rights, social justice issues and the inequalities encountered by those who have experienced mental health problems.
• Demonstrable ability to engage with the Scottish Policy, service and practice environments (mental health and social justice).
• Demonstrable relevant experience in working within the Mental Health or related field.
