Job description

The Mlambe Project is a grassroots international NGO working to put an end to educational disadvantage in Malawi. 

The Mlambe Project works through sustainable, community driven and innovative development to ensure that every child  will have the fundamental right to education, transformative access to learning opportunities that give them access to livelihoods that move beyond subsistence farming and join them up to the global economy. Through our sustainable infrastructure building programme, we teach Malawians how to build schools using ecological and economic techniques. Our goals are to work towards every child in Malawi having a school classroom place throughout their primary and secondary schooling with access to water and sanitation. We are also working towards creating 10,000 jobs in Malawi.

Our next chief executive will be fundamental to helping us deliver on our ambitious goals in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world. Despite having established a relatively stable democracy, which is by and large unaffected by domestic or international conflict. The country has a population of 18 million people, over 70% of the population is living below the international poverty line of $1.90 per person per day. 

This role is a UK based role, primarily focusing on fundraising and operations management of our UK operations, and with an accountable relationship for all work carried out in Malawi, by our project partner, The Mlambe Project Limited, which is set up as a social enterprise. To be supremely adept at this role, you will need to be a hands on manager, with a talent for building movements and initiatives, recruiting, motivating and managing volunteers. As the only paid staff member in the UK, you will be adept at building resources to bring our vision to fruition. We are a small charity with an great vision, exceptional people, and real drive to get behind the chief executive and support their work.
