INTRODUCTION TO THE ROLE

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Development and Outreach Officer to play a key role in mobilising resources, expanding the network, and raising awareness about child marriage globally. The Development and Outreach Officer will work within the Development and Outreach Team to develop and implement fundraising strategies, cultivate donor relationships, lead the development of grant proposals and reporting processes, and support with outreach events.
 

We are looking for a passionate fundraiser with previous experience in a similar role in the not-for-profit sector, international/intergovernmental organisation or social enterprise. You will have a proven track record of writing funding proposals for trusts and foundations, excellent relationship management and impeccable written communication skills.
 

Job location

London, UK (hybrid with up to three days on site per week). May include international travel.

Salary range

£32,600 rising on an annual incremental basis. Girls Not Brides also offers a generous 10% pension.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Proposal development, grant management and reporting

•  Develop concept notes and proposals, collaborating with relevant teams to ensure alignment with Girls Not Brides’ priorities and with donor requirements.
• Coordinate the preparation of budgets, work plans, and other supporting materials for grant applications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with donor guidelines.
• Support in monitoring grant timelines, deliverables, and reporting requirements to ensure compliance and accountability.
• Prepare timely and accurate donor reports and updates.
   

Donor cultivation and stewardship

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing and prospective donors to expand Girls Not Brides’ network and strengthen collaborations. 
   

Fundraising strategy

• Contribute to the development and implementation of fundraising strategies to diversify and increase Girls Not Brides’ funding base, in alignment with organisational goals and priorities.
• Research and identify potential funding opportunities from diverse sources, including trusts and foundations, governments and corporates.
• Collaborate with Girls Not Brides’ internal teams (regional, finance, communications, learning and impact teams) to maximise fundraising opportunities.
   

Outreach events

•  Support the team in the planning and implementation of events and outreach work throughout the year, working with other teams in the Secretariat, our members and partners.
•  Represent Girls Not Brides at meetings, conferences, and events to network with existing and potential donors, to promote the organisation's mission and impact.

Essential experience

• Significant professional experience in a similar level role in the not-for-profit sector, an international/intergovernmental organisation, a social movement, research centre or social enterprise.
• Proven track record of successfully securing grants and donations from diverse sources, with experience in proposal writing, donor cultivation, and grant management.

How you will make a difference

Your role will enable smooth and efficient financial and administrative workflows at GFI Europe. Reporting to the Head of Operations, your work will fall under the following categories:

50% of time – Payment processing and bookkeeping

• Making payments correctly and on time with respect to invoices, direct debit setup, expense reimbursements, as well as salaries and payroll taxes.
• Day-to-day bookkeeping, including registering journal entries and all financial transactions in our accounting software (currently Quickbooks), and supporting monthly reconciliations. 
• Coordinating the calculation and payment of quarterly reverse-charged cross-border VAT payments.
• Where there are opportunities for improvement, working in partnership with colleagues from the Operations team to implement systems that facilitate easier and more efficient payment processes.

25% of time – Budget forecast and reporting

• Forecasting regular and recurring expenses for the annual budgeting process and for periodic budget reviews.
• Preparing monthly updates on budget spending per department / project.
• Collaborating with our Development team to track and report against restricted donations.
• Organising information needed for the Belgium annual financial audit process as well as for UK financial reporting. 

25% of time – General administration

• Supporting governance, compliance and reporting for our Belgium entity, as well as the UK branch of GFI Europe and potentially other entities in the future.
• Supporting other departments with contract administration by inputting partnership data in templates, filling in relevant forms, coordinating signatures, organising and keeping track of finalised agreements.
• Performing other tasks as required as a member of our small, dynamic team.

You must have:

• A passion for GFI’s philosophy and mission.

Benefits and the fine print

• Terms of employment: Part-time (27-30 hours / week). Flexible working hours.
• Location: We can consider applicants based in the UK or Belgium. This is a remote role, and you will be able to work from home, or anywhere you choose (within the UK or Belgium). New Horizon Youth Centre runs a busy day centre from Monday to Friday, providing basic needs to young people experiencing homelessness and a one-stop-shop for housing advice, youth work activities, counselling, jobs, education and training support. The Services Manager (Day Centre) is a brand new role for the organisation. They will work as part of the existing Youth Work Team to provide vital additional capacity and expertise to respond to the significantly increased demand we have been experiencing. This role is primarily focused on delivering our frontline day centre service each week. FUNDRAISING MANAGER (INTERIM)

We have an exciting opportunity to join the thriving and dynamic SARSAS team as our Fundraising Manager.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to help SARSAS realise it’s vision of a world without sexual violence, through our ambitious strategy to extend our preventive programmes and maintain our essential high-quality services. Through developing and expanding income generated through trust and grants, corporate giving and individual giving, you will help us to be part of the systems change to end gender-based violence.

You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and team leads to understand funding priorities, identify potential funders and donors and develop compelling funding bids, proposals and appeals. This will include collaboration to develop partnership proposals.

You will undertake new prospect research and develop and nurture excellent donor relationships. You will seek opportunities to strengthen and build on existing and lapsed funding relationships and be proactive about identifying further development opportunities.

In order to realise our ambitions, we need to extend our programme of fundraising growth, so we can increase our annual income from circa £3 million to in excess of £3.5 million.

About you

Through this new organisational role, you’ll proactively create and grow fundraising income opportunities with individuals, corporate partners and grant giving trusts and foundations. You'll bring our cause to life and building lasting funder and donor relationships, leading the drive for new donor engagement and securing sustainable, multi-year funding.

Through your fundraising expertise, you will have a proven track record of building relationships with corporate partners, individuals and other donors to achieve and exceed annual income targets and KPI’s. You’ll have ability support and mentor your team and the capacity yourself to create and craft compelling bids, proposals and appeals that successfully engage and attract donations from new and existing supporters.

Key responsibilities

Fundraising delivery and development

• Develop, monitor and manage a fundraising portfolio capable of generating in excess of £500k per annum, establishing a fundraising pipeline and a range of KPI’s that can be tracked and will enable you to make informed projections regarding future income.
• Set up and manage clear planning processes to prepare funding applications, providing clear guidance to colleagues and external partners, which supports effective collaboration, and ensures the submission of high-quality bids, on time.
• Work with and support external consultants and colleagues to help secure fundraising partnerships and income from grant giving trusts and foundations.
•  Write high quality, well-written persuasive and compelling funding applications to secure grant funding.

• Develop the SARSAS Individual Giving Strategy and support the FunComms Administrator and wider Comms team to design and deliver excellent, engaging and regular communications and powerful fundraising appeals alongside establishing the associated data and systems to grow our income and pool of individual supporters making one off or monthly donations.
•  Keep up-to-date and accurate records of fundraising activities and provide quarterly updates to the senior leadership team.

Relationship management and stewardship

•  With colleagues, undertake market research and funding insight to identify new prospects and grow our income and pool of supporters.
•  Identify and broker relationships with key funders capable of funding against our fundraising priorities, providing high-quality relationship management, using appropriate communication tools and channels to maintain relationships with key individuals and organisations.
•  Design and implement generic and bespoke stewardship plans for our current network of donors, working closely with the Communications Team on the development of mailings, reports, and events as necessary.
•  Provide advice and support, as necessary, for staff who serve as primary contacts for funders/donors, to ensure that relationships are maintained to a high standard.
•  Build strong relationships across SARSAS and work with teams in an integrative way to achieve organisational ambitions.

Planning, monitoring and evaluation

•  Working closely with the SLT and relevant managers, develop a funding pipeline, which aligns across all programmes, and collaborate on quarterly update reports for the Board of Trustees and the Finance, Risk & HR Sub-Committee.
• Support SLT/ team leads to define fundraising priorities, ensuring that resources are deployed in a timely, and proportionate manner.
•  Maintain accurate and up-to-date records to evidence the impact of fundraising activities, including raised income, donor acquisition, donor retention, return on investment, donor engagement metrics, and our fundraising growth rate.
•  Oversee full implementation of Donorfy system for fundraising
•  Provide high-quality monitoring and evaluation reports.

Staff management

•  Provide leadership for your team, inspiring and motivating staff, freelancers and volunteers, setting KPIs, reviewing and improving performance, ensuring fundraising meets/exceeds targets.
• Provide and/or oversee line management of team members, ensuring that professional standards are maintained, and staff wellbeing is supported.
•  Ensure that all work adheres to all policies including Safeguarding and Data Protection guidelines.
•  Work alongside the HR Officer, to co-ordinate the recruitment of training staff.

Context of the role.

The successful candidate will be guided by the Communications & Fundraising Officer to communicate the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers and demonstrate the impact of Upbeat Communities to our supporters and followers, as well as to new audiences. They will have a positive attitude and love communicating what we do as a charity.

The role can mostly be done remotely; however, it will be required for the candidate to travel to our base in Derby a minimum of 1 day a week to stay connected to the team, and for team meetings and training as and when they occur.

•  Creating written and visual content for social media and our website.

•  Day-to-day management of Upbeat’s social media accounts including creating and scheduling content, replying to messages, and interacting with followers.

Supporter stewardship

• Following Upbeat’s donations process, ensure donors are thanked in an appropriate and timely manner, and that all communications are logged on to our database (Donorfy).
