The Trusts and Foundations Officer will support the Trusts and Foundations team to meet income targets and develop and maintain relationships with donors and prospects. The role combines supporting the Trusts and Foundations Manager, Senior Trusts Officer, and Head of Fundraising with the maintenance of existing relationships as well as generating their own income from both smaller and larger trusts. The successful candidate will demonstrate success in securing grants from charitable trusts, foundations, and institutional donors. Proven experience in trust and foundation fundraising, preferably within the nonprofit sector or a similar environment is essential.

In this role you will be responsible for working across corporate partnerships, major donors, trusts and foundations, with a prominent focus on supporting with account management of existing partnerships and developing our pipeline of prospects. The charity has a history of success in these areas and we would love to have someone join the team to build upon this success.

Ideally the candidate would have existing experience in corporate partnerships, but we are open to candidates with experience in one or more of the fundraising disciplines mentioned above, with a willingness to develop their skills and experience, through a supportive, coaching and a mentoring leadership style.

Key Responsibilities

Partnerships

• Support with creating proposals and pitches to secure Brand, Corporate and Commercial Partnerships, with a strong focus on shared purpose and mutual benefit, to create successful long term strategic partnerships.
• Support with relationship management of current partners of Rays of Sunshine, ensuring they have materials to aid their fundraising.
• To manage the input of corporate partnership data on the CRM system (currently Donorfy).
• Manage the updates to the corporate pipeline master document, ensuring appropriate actions are met within deadline.
• Supporting the Corporate Volunteer Researcher to undertake the necessary research to support our pipeline of approaches.

Philanthropy

• Creating supporter updates and reports to demonstrate the impact of funding received from our Patrons and Major Donors, providing excellent stewardship to existing donors.
• Provide support with the event planning of major donor events, and attend in person to provide support of events on the day. 

Trusts and Foundations

•  Support with research and the successful completion applications to secure donations from a pipeline of identified Trusts and Foundations

Stewardship

•  Identifying new opportunities to create wow moments for donors and provide excellent stewardship of all major donors and partnerships.

General

• General administrative duties, including record meeting notes and actions, following up with partners, sending out of promotional materials, monitoring and responding to email enquiries, and taking telephones calls.
• Any other duties to support the success of the fundraising team.

About this Role

Together with the Director of Fundraising, the Philanthropy Manager will develop and deliver the Philanthropy Strategy, with the support of the Philanthropy Assistant.  This is a significant part of the organisation’s overall Supporter Engagement Strategy which focuses specifically on unrestricted income generation.  This role will raise unrestricted income through the development of Amref UK’s Major Gifts programme - the Mbele Movement - by identifying and cultivating new high net worth supporters, and inspiring them to make unrestricted, multi-year major gifts, in line with the Philanthropy Strategy. ROLE PURPOSE

This position involves identifying and prioritising potential donors capable of making significant contributions to help us deliver a range of projects aimed at enhancing the student experience and supporting the local community. By providing the Development and Fundraising Team with tailored and insightful research, this role will enhance the prospect funding pipeline and facilitate the cultivation of a diverse pools of donors, including individuals, grant-making trusts, and companies. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

· To maintain and develop the University’s database of fundraising prospects through proactive identification, analysis, and segmentation, (individual and aggregate) record updating, and original research, including the identification of new prospects.

·  To prepare prospect profiles (which may include wealth ratings), and work with relationship managers to devise appropriate tailored cultivation and solicitation plans, enabling appropriately targeted fundraising asks.

CONTEXT

The primary purpose of the Development team is to secure philanthropic income to support the delivery of the University’s Being Westminster 2022-2029 strategy. About the opportunity

Fundraising is critical to delivering our mission and ensuring we can support as many children and young people facing disadvantage to open doors to their future.  The Philanthropy Team as a whole has a combined target income for the current year (2023-24) of £1.83 million (growing to £2.35m as our target for next year), of which approximately £850k is from corporate donors and their foundations, £100k is from individuals, and the remaining from trusts and foundations. We have been successful year on year in increasing our fundraising base by building secure multi-year partnerships.
 

We are looking for a Fundraising Manager to work within our passionate Philanthropy Team to help grow our fundraised income and develop and maintain an effective, high-quality funding pipeline. Focussing predominantly on eliciting funding from trusts and foundations, and working closely with the Head of Philanthropy, CEO and Corporate Partnerships Manager, the Fundraising Manager will ensure the effective management of existing funder relations and take responsibility for ensuring Action Tutoring meets its reporting obligations. The Fundraising Manager will be responsible for the line-management and development of three Fundraising Coordinators, through which you and your team will prepare and submit grant applications and funding reports, alongside overseeing the development and growth of our individual giving activities and initiatives, including through expansion of our fundraising events and campaigns.

Duties and responsibilities

· Work with the CEO, Head of Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships Manager to ensure Action Tutoring’s fundraising targets are met and manage an effective pipeline across Action Tutoring’s different income streams.

· Lead on the preparation and submission of high-quality, effective applications, with support from the Fundraising Coordinators. 
 

· Monitor when grants are due for renewal and proactively seek out renewal conversations, ensuring Action Tutoring has a healthy funding pipeline. 

· Work with the Fundraising Coordinator for Campaigns, Events and Individual Giving to build Action Tutoring’s income generated from events, ensuring an attractive range of event options across the country. Manage the Fundraising Coordinator to ensure places are secured, participants are supported and engagement is expanded.
 

· Work with  Fundraising Coordinator for Campaigns, Events and Individual Giving to build Action Tutoring’s income generated from individual giving, developing campaigns for driving more regular giving and building our strategies to cultivate, engage and thank individuals. 
 

· Act as a system manager for fundraising platforms, databases and tools including Just Giving and the Giving Block, with support from Fundraising Coordinators.
 

· Oversee the development of the fundraising area of the website and fundraising pack to attract new funders and fundraisers to the charity, with support from the Fundraising Coordinators.
 

· Manage the Fundraising Coordinators, ensuring they are growing and developing, and that work load is shared fairly. 
 

· Represent Action Tutoring at relevant meetings and events.
 

· Alongside your team, prepare applications for corporate funding opportunities identified by the Corporate Partnerships Team.
 

· Ensure accurate record-keeping of corporate partnerships and relationships on Salesforce and any other relevant systems.

Person specification

This role requires an ambitious, passionate and determined individual with outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Alongside your team you will be responsible for writing and submitting grant applications and reports, so an excellent understanding of the English language and a keen eye for detail are crucial for success within this position. Working to deadlines and line-managing three Fundraising Coordinators, exceptional time-management, prioritisation and organisation skills are essential. With a focus on developing our individual giving strategies, we’re looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills. 
 

Qualifications criteria:

· A*-C in maths and English at GCSE (or equivalent experience).
 

· Right to work in the UK.

This role is responsible for delivering on three key areas of the major donor programme:

-Managing and growing a portfolio of major donor and high value supporters. Specifically focusing on encouraging and making the ask for long-term, multi-year 5-6 figure gifts.

-Driving major donor new business activity to build a sustainable pipeline using internal data analysis tools alongside network mapping exercises.

-Working collaboratively across the team to provide tailored stewardship journeys and experiences which build meaningful relationships with our closest supporters and demonstrate the impact of their support on our mission.

What skills are we looking for?

• Extensive experience of successfully soliciting gifts from trusts and foundation at five and six-figure level.

• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to navigate complex environments and competing priorities.

• Proven track record of trust and foundation fundraising in the not-for-profit sector, ideally in a research environment and/or large organisation.

• Have a "can do" attitude and a demonstrated ability to problem solve.  Ability to apply past experience of trust fundraising to anticipate potential challenges and address them quickly.
