The primary purpose of this role is to design, develop, and implement a comprehensive continuum of care, supporting young people in our local community who have had a more challenging start in life. This role will be paramount in enabling these young people to ‘discover who they are and what they can become’.

You will be instrumental to the development and growth of our service and help realise the positive ambitions we have to make a difference every day to the lives of the children and young people in our care.
With extensive experience of children's residential care, you will have experience of the day to day operations and the strategic overview to drive growth. This is a new role for the Circuit, replacing a volunteer. In designing the position, the Circuit has aimed for maximum flexibility to secure the best candidate for the role. Initially, the person will need physically to attend some meetings to familiarise themselves with the Circuit's operations and ensure a smooth hand-over. For the right person, though, there will be considerable flexibility about how the duties are fulfilled in the longer-term. It is specifically expected that the role will allow for flexible scheduling to accommodate other responsibilities, including caring.
The Richmond & Hounslow Circuit comprises seven churches in southwest London. As with all Methodist circuits, these churches function autonomously yet collaborate closely in their ministry and mission efforts. The Circuit oversees joint resources, including staff and property. Presently, it employs four full-time ordained ministers, one full-time lay pastor, and a part-time administrator. As a part of the Methodist Church, its mission is “to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission”. To fulfil this mission, the Circuit fosters a broad spectrum of ministry within its congregations, focusing on worship but also engaging in outreach to the homeless, asylum seekers, new parents, and various other groups. It is a busy and dynamic supported housing service for young people aged 16 – 21 years. Commissioned by Nottinghamshire County Council, they offer a high quality, strengths based support service which aims to build the skills, confidence and independence of the young people who come through their doors.
The Role
As their Night Porter, you will undertake a varied range of tasks on the night shift and not one shift is the same as you will be involved in directly responding and helping young people with any issues or concerns they may have, whilst also managing the site, conducting safety checks and operating surveillance of the building. Other duties may include but are not limited to:
- Booking residents and visitors in and out of the building and log all relevant information.
- Logging all complaints, accidents, potential risks, and incidents of anti-social behaviour in accordance with policies and procedures
- Keeping a day-to-day log of events and happenings when on duty and ensure effective handover of information to relevant staff.
- Conducting regular security checks including fire alarm, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers and report any concerns.
About you:
You will be compassionate, resilient and have the skills to de-escalate potential incidents through your fantastic communication skills. You will need to be able to confidently diffuse difficult situations which may arise as a result of tension or disagreements between young people, and be understanding of the needs of people from diverse social, cultural and racial backgrounds.
Although training will be provided, you must be comfortable with lone working and using your own initiative. It is beneficial if you have an understanding of professional boundaries working with a vulnerable client group and/or experience of working with a vulnerable client group. A basic level of literacy and numeracy is essential as well as caring for the safety and wellbeing of young people.
Working times:
The service operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year including bank holidays and weekends. Staff will be required to work 37 hours including weekends across 4 shifts. 8:45pm -7am

However the post will involve travel across the County and potentially further afield depending on where UASC young people are located.Nottinghamshire County Council's UASC team works across children in care and leaving care services, and works with young people from the age of approx. 14 to 25.
We are looking to recruit 1 full time (37 hours) Wellbeing Practitioner for one year with the following qualifications/skills/experience:
- A professional qualification (Minimum Diploma level), with evidence of continuing professional development in a field relevant to child and young person mental health
