About the Role

As a Case-handler you will work as part of the team responsible for conducting the initial assessment process for complaints and for resolving complaints.  This is a public-facing role with a varied and interesting caseload that involves extensive interaction with students and universities/colleges.

Full training will be provided and a mentor will be at hand to help support and help you understand the needs and demands of the role.

Responsibilities include:

• Determine whether complaints are eligible for review and communicate decisions to students;
• Request and obtain documentation and information from higher education providers, students and student representatives;
• Promote early resolution of cases by contacting students, student representatives and providers with a view to negotiating the early settlement of complaints;
• Provide effective guidance to students, student representatives and providers on the OIA’s case-handling process, possible remedies and typical timeframes;
• Conduct reviews of complaints, draft and issue Complaint Outcomes

The Role 
Working within our International Partnerships, Programmes and Research (IPPR) team, you will develop, accompany, and coordinate locally-led peacebuilding projects, partnerships and networks, primarily in conflict-affected countries in the Great Lakes and Central Africa regions of Africa. You will also support the coordination of partnerships and engagement with local peacebuilding efforts in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) within our multi-year programme ‘Local First: Transforming the Peacebuilding System’, funded by the Dutch MfA.

As Senior Partnerships and Programmes Officer you will work closely with our SPOs who manage existing partnerships and create opportunities to bring partners together to learn from one another. You will also support the development, coordination and delivery of Local First, working closely with the International Programmes Manager and Peace Direct’s Netherlands Country Representative.

We are looking for someone with experience supporting peacebuilding, development or humanitarian projects, with a good understanding of peacebuilding approaches, and who can build effective, trust-based relationships with local partners. You must be a team player who enjoys working collaboratively, have excellent organisational skills and be able to work in both English and French.

As part of our mission to break down barriers to university access and address broader educational inequalities, the Social Mobility & Widening Participation department has developed a dedicated strand of community organising within our work, which is becoming increasingly impactful across King’s and recognised in the sector. Through our Access & Participation Plan 2025–2029, we have made ambitious commitments to expand of this work to improve young people’s educational outcomes and address challenges to university access and broader inequalities.

We work to address local barriers to education such as mental health, pathways to citizenship, access to English language provision and issues around employment and fair wages. We do this through our partnership with South London Citizens. This role leads on the development and delivery of community organising initiatives and supports the wider integration of these methods across King’s. Through community organising, the role empowers school leaders, young people and parents to design, launch and sustain impactful campaigns. The post holder will work closely with Citizens UK organisers and colleagues across King’s to build strong partnerships and drive meaningful change, including engagement in broader, high profile local, regional and national initiatives.

The postholder will use community organising methodology to lead and expand our core community organising programmes which are currently, Parent Power South London, Empoderando Familias (in partnership with Citizens UK) and Empower ESOL.
