We’re looking for two new trustees to play a vital role in shaping how we deliver our work most effectively. If you’ve got business acumen, accounting expertise, or an innovative approach to international development, we’d love to hear from you.

Your contribution

Join us as a trustee and you’ll help ensure the good governance of CBM UK. You’ll provide financial scrutiny of fund management and supervise the performance of the CEO. Ultimately, you will help ensure our resources are used as effectively as possible to serve people with disabilities in some of the world’s poorest countries.

You’ll join a Board of 11 directors who have experience across international development, education, law, financial services and management. We’re looking for two new trustees who bring skills in:

• business (particularly social enterprise and start up),
• accountancy (with understanding of UK SORP), or
• innovative approaches to international development, including alternative models of development financing.

Building relationships with external partners within the local community, you will help the branch to build its community outreach programme, to reach more members of the public. Joining the trustee committee, currently made up of 9 trustees with varying specialist areas, you will be supported by other trustees as we want to increase our skill set across our trustee board.

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that ESS Education and Support Services achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Trustee vacancy: UK Bangladesh Education Trust (UKBET)

Founded in 1993, the UK Bangladesh Education Trust [UKBET], a UK registered charity and international NGO registered in Bangladesh, is looking for one or two new dynamic trustees to join our board, supporting the charity’s mission to help end child labour in Bangladesh.  

Our Doorstep Learning Programme engages and supports child domestic workers (95% girls) and their families. Trained and supported community teachers provide three individual or small group literacy, numeracy and life skills sessions for these working children as well as signposting for their families. A key aim is to support the children’s progression out of child labour to school or, for older children to vocational training. UKBET’s Family Futures microgrants address the root causes of child labour – family poverty.  Parents can use these grants to start or continue small businesses to increase their family income, removing the need to send their children to work and enabling them to join school or, for older working children, vocational training.

Our work is funded through charitable donations, fundraising and grants.

The UK Board of Trustees set the direction for the charity and support the work of the Executive Director and his team who also benefit from an Advisory Group based in Sylhet, Bangladesh.  We meet on line three or four times a year, and as needed, plus try to have an annual in person away day meeting. There are currently four experienced Trustees with a range of expertise across finance, income generation and education. We are seeking one or two new Trustees to join us, ideally leading in one or more of the following areas:

· Organisational efficiency to assume the role of Secretary

· Knowledge and connections to build interest and financial support from Bangladesh and/or the British Bangladeshi community

South Cumbria MAT are seeking committed volunteers from a range of backgrounds to join as Trustees on their Board of Trustees.  Trustees are critical to the success of the Trust. ​Time commitment ​

_We hold quarterly board meetings, typically from 4pm to 7pm. Trustees are expected to attend and contribute to all meetings either in person or by joining virtually. ​

_Papers for the board meetings are sent one week prior and from time-to-time will include specific asks or requests for information and input from trustees.​

 _ You will also be asked to take part in one of our quarterly committee meetings which take place virtually two weeks prior to the board meeting, typically from 4pm to 6pm.​

_We hold one annual board away day,  typically from 10am to 5pm which takes place in person.​

_ Board Meetings are located at the We The Curious offices within the science centre in central Bristol, and our away days take place at an alternate venue in Bristol once a year. ​

_ You may also be called upon for advice or assistance by the leadership team, for example to give input on areas related to your specialism, attend additional meetings or to be present at We The Curious events. ​

Remuneration ​

This is a voluntary role. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered. Refreshments are provided at Board meetings and lunch is provided at the annual strategy away day. ​

If you join the board, you will have an induction and onboarding experience to support you with your role and get you connected with the rest of the organisation.​

If you are a first-time trustee or want a refresher, we will provide you with training on good governance and other topics related to your role. We will also provide you with mentorship from other members of the board.

Background

Suzy Lamplugh Trust was founded by Diana and Paul Lamplugh following the disappearance of their daughter Suzy, a young estate agent, in 1986. Since then, the Trust has pioneered personal safety as a life skill and a public policy priority.

A specialist education and care trust based in Surrey is seeking up to five new Trustees to join its committed and values-led Board. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young adults with complex learning and behavioural needs through integrated education, care and therapy.

As a Trustee, you will provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge across the organisation’s education, residential and supported living services. You’ll work closely with the Executive Principal and Senior Leadership Team, helping to shape operational strategy, monitor financial performance, and ensure effective governance.

Applications are welcome from individuals with experience in the charity, education, care, or public service sectors. The organisation is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in:

• HR and people strategy

• IT systems and cyber security

Our partner works to transform higher education into a force for peace. They campaign for universities to end ties with the global arms trade and instead become champions for justice, equality, and social good.

They are seeking a Treasurer to join the Board and play a key role in ensuring financial sustainability and good governance. The Treasurer will maintain oversight of the organisation's financial affairs, ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards, and support sound financial planning and reporting.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in finance, governance, or charity management, with the ability to review budgets and accounts, advise on policy, and communicate clearly with fellow Trustees and staff. A shared commitment to peace, justice, and education reform is essential.

The Board meets once annually in London and once online in May, with an additional online AGM early each year. The expected time commitment is around one day per month, including meeting preparation and liaison with the executive team.
