ECT is looking for new trustees to join our existing enthusiastic and dedicated board who share our ambition to provide top-quality, safe, affordable and accessible transport services for every community we serve. The range of perspectives and experience diversity brings is an asset to ECT and we want to create an inclusive, welcoming environment. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and particularly those who share our values but may be new to a role as a trustee.
Our Board is forging exciting plans for the future, alongside our top-notch team of committed, professional managers, drivers, assistants and administrators. As new trustees, you will help steer our charity on the next stage of its important journey.
We are based in Greenford, West London, and also operate in Dorset and Cheshire. There are no specific skills required, and we are very keen to hear from people new to the role of being a trustee who are active in their local communities and we are determined to provide better representation for the people we support. ECT has been going for over 30 years and we do a lot of work with young people, the elderly, community groups and charities but we are also very keen to see what other services we might be able to offer.
We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have experience in finance, charity management or governance, transport or have a personal connection in some way to community transport but above all else, we want you to feel motivated to be involved and make a difference.

What you will be doing
- Assist with setting up the lunch area
- Welcome and engage with attendees in a friendly and respectful manner
- Help serve food and drinks, ensuring dietary needs are considered
- Support with clearing up after lunch, including washing up and tidying.
- Work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers to ensure a positive experience for all.

Do you live in Wales and want to gain valuable skills, have new experiences, and support vulnerable people? We are offering 1 young person aged 18–25 the opportunity to volunteer with the Portuguese Red Cross in Guimarães, Portugal.
The Portuguese Red Cross in Guimarães supports the local community through a wide range of voluntary activities focused on social inclusion, education, health, and youth engagement.
Volunteers will be involved in several impactful projects, including:
- Supporting elderly people through digital inclusion and companionship
- Promoting healthy lifestyles and safety awareness among children and teenagers
- Assisting in shelters for homeless individuals and long-term care patients
- Organising creative and educational activities in schools, hospitals, and foster homes
- Helping with social media, fundraising, and community events.
Volunteers will stay in a shared house near the city centre, just a short walk from the Red Cross headquarters. The house includes shared bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, bathrooms, and a terrace. Volunteering hours will not exceed 35 hours per week, and volunteers are entitled to two consecutive days of rest. While most weekends are free, occasional weekend activities may take place.
This is a fantastic opportunity to explore your interests, develop new skills, and make a difference in a vibrant and historic city. These are fully funded placements, with return flights, accommodation and health insurance covered - volunteers receive a small monthly stipend for living expenses.

What is the time commitment?
The charity holds four full board meetings per year in Nottingham, with each meeting lasting around 2 hours. Meetings take place quarterly on the third Thursday of October, January, April and July.
In addition, Trustees need to set aside a minimum of 2 hours reading time before each board meeting.
. The AGM follows the board meeting on the third Thursday of October, with the meeting lasting around 1.5 hours. In addition, a minimum of 1 hour reading time is required prior to the AGM.
• There may be specific occasions when a Trustee is required to attend an event to open/close it, such as our annual staff conference
• Get to know the charity’s services and infrastructure within the first 3 years/initial tenure of the post and continue to have contact with relevant departments during subsequent 3-year tenures. Feedback on service/infrastructure visits is a standard Board agenda item.
. The charity board also has a Finance & Audit Committee which has its own Terms of Reference and has meetings separate from the Full Board Meetings. The membership of this committee is determined by the Board
• Trustees serve a three-year term of office and can be re-elected to serve additional three-year terms
What training will you be given?
We offer a full induction programme and ongoing support from the charity, other Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team plus occasional external development.
Who we're looking for:
The Trustee role is open to all those who are either a trained lawyer or who has a strong legal background and in addition, the Board of Trustees particularly welcomes experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Issues relating to work with, and for, older people or lived experience and potentially any of the following skills.
- Legal Skills
- Fundraising
- Public Relations and Marketing
- Campaigning
- Education and Learning
- Digital Strategy
- HR
- Strategy and planning skills and performance monitoring in commercial and/or not-for-profit organisations
- Developing and monitoring budgets

Do you live in Wales and want to gain valuable skills, have new experiences, and support vulnerable people?
We are offering 2 young people aged 18-25 the opportunity to volunteer with the Portuguese Red Cross in Braga, Portugal. Next placement dates are planned for: 5th January - end of August 2026.
You will be working on a range of projects, which will give you the chance to explore the different kinds of social action that the Portuguese Red Cross undertake in Braga.
Typical tasks may involve:
- Supporting the charity shop, Ponto Vermelho, with social media, sorting donations and organising the displays.
- Supporting in the Youth Centre for the Roma Community – organising and delivering activities, helping with homework.
- Supporting in the Foster Care for Unaccompanied Minor Refugees.
- Supporting the Social Kindergarten.
- Assisting with projects which help the homeless and the elderly.
- Assisting in the writing of project proposals and funding bids.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at FareShare. We are the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors. We take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry, and get it to nearly 8,000 frontline charities and community groups.
The food we redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create almost a million meals for vulnerable people.
About the Volunteer Role
Demand for our support continues to increase, and we need to source food in a variety of ways to meet this demand.
This is where volunteering at the Food Collection comes in, and why it is so important and impactful.
We are holding our annual Food Collection event in-store at Tesco.
We need volunteers to help in-store, to ask shoppers to purchase long-life food items to donate, and collect the donations.
We are urgently in need of long-life items such as tinned goods, cereal, pasta and rice - as they last a long time and offer good variety.
The food collected is given to the local food charity who supports people in the local community.
Shift times
Volunteer shifts are one-off on Thursday 27 November, Friday 28 November and Saturday 29 November 2025.
Shift times are 9am-midday, midday-3pm, 3pm-6pm and 6pm-9pm.
Key tasks
The goal during your shift is to make shoppers aware that you are collecting food donations for charity, and to ask them to donate for Christmas.
