DIRECTORATE PURPOSE

The Fundraising, Marketing and Communications directorate is responsible for:

• Income generation across trusts and foundations, corporates, major donors, community fundraising, public donations, and legacies, alongside relationships with commissioners and public sector funders.

• Partnership development, engaging businesses, philanthropists, trusts, and volunteers.

• Marketing of services and membership to families, adoptees, commissioners, and professionals in health, education, and social care.

• Awareness raising and thought leadership, ensuring adoption and permanence issues have a strong voice nationally.

Currently a team of six, the directorate has strong ambitions to grow in size and scope, with scope to re-imagine its structure to meet future needs.

THE ROLE

As Director of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications you will:

• Build unrestricted income in a competitive funding environment

• Lead the transformation of Adoption UK’s income model, scaling from £500k to £2m+ contribution (by 2030) to organisational income growth from a £4.2m baseline.

• Develop and deliver a bold, integrated fundraising, marketing, and communications strategy.

• Build Adoption UK’s brand and profile with families, adoptees, commissioners, policymakers, funders, and the wider public.

• Inspire, coach, and grow a talented team, embedding a culture of confidence, creativity, and innovation.

• Personally cultivate and steward high-value donor, corporate, and foundation relationships, working with the CEO, Board of Trustees, and ambassadors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

• Lead the design and delivery of a multi-year fundraising, marketing, and communications strategy aligned to organisational priorities.

• Act as a cultural change leader, shifting from risk-averse to confident, outward-facing engagement.

• Contribute fully to the Senior Leadership Team, influencing strategy, governance, and financial planning.

Income Growth & Diversification

• Oversee all voluntary income streams – trusts, major donors, corporates, community/public fundraising, legacies – while also strengthening public sector and commissioning relationships.

• Oversee marketing and growth of membership as a core element of income and impact.

• Deliver long-term growth targets.

• Use and promote data-driven decision-making, supporter journeys, and digital fundraising/marketing effectively.

• Design and deliver a signature annual Showcase event, alongside new products such as a Giving Circle and Corporate Club, ensuring clear ROI and upgrade potential.

• Personally lead cultivation of transformational donor and partner relationships, supported by trustees, ambassadors, and patrons.

• Identify and test new funding streams and partnerships to diversify income and reduce risk.

Marketing & Communications

• Oversee a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy covering fundraising, membership, services, training, campaigns, and advocacy.

• Ensure a compelling and consistent case for support and brand identity across all channels.

• Raise Adoption UK’s national profile with media, commissioners, professionals, and the public.

• Lead digital transformation: CRM upgrade, supporter journeys, analytics, social media, and digital marketing.

• Manage media relations and reputation, including crisis communications alongside the CEO.

Team Leadership & Culture

• Lead, inspire, and grow a team of talented and motivated individuals.

• Model authentic, adaptive, and inclusive leadership – balancing ambition with staff wellbeing.

• Act as a coach and mentor, supporting professional growth and building the next generation of leaders.

Financial & Governance

• Lead financial planning, budgeting, and ROI analysis for the directorate.

• Report regularly to CEO and Board of Trustees on progress, opportunities, and risks.

• Lead fundraising due-diligence and reputational risk processes, with regular reporting to Trustee-led committees (e.g. Finance & Risk).

• Ensure compliance with the Fundraising Code, GDPR, charity law, and safeguarding standards.

• Embed robust CRM, data, and analytics to support continuous improvement.

External Engagement

• Act as a visible ambassador for Adoption UK with donors, corporates, trusts and foundations, policymakers, and media.

• In collaboration with the CEO and Chair, direct ambassadors and patrons to open doors, advocate, and steward transformational relationships.

• Represent Adoption UK externally at events, forums, and national platforms.

Hamelin is seeking a passionate, self-motivated and confident coordinator to support our expanding Ability Works project. In this diverse role, you'll play a pivotal part in ensuring our individuals meet their goals and create a lasting impact in our communities as well as being the first point of call for new individuals accessing the service.

Ability Works - This initiative focuses on enabling adults with learning disabilities and autistic people to gain meaningful and fulfilling paid employment. The project thrives on outcomes, motivation and a can-do approach.

This role is crucial in making sure we deliver exceptional service, stay compliant, and run our project efficiently— whilst ensuring our mission, vision and values are not compromised. 

The Employment Support Coordinator will regularly meet with participants to listen, offer support and help them identify their best job match, reflecting their skills and aspirations.

In your day-to-day role, you will be striving to build, expand and strengthen the project whilst working closely with the Employment Manager to ensure all key performance indicators and any project targets are met. The role is responsible for onboarding individuals into the project as well as delivering face-to-face mentoring, work experience in and outdoors and coaching.

Project Skills:

• Support with the daily operations of the project scope.
• Supporting individuals through CV production, profiling, interview techniques, attending interviews, workshops, job clubs and managing their health at work.
• Adhere to the strategies to grow and enhance the projects, meeting the ever-changing needs of those we support.
• Identify skills gaps for participants and offer Asdan short courses to support development.

About the Role

As a Face-to-Face (F2F) Fundraising Area Manager, you'll lead and inspire a team of membership fundraisers based primarily in the West Midlands with coverage across Shropshire and Worcestershire and this wider vibrant area. Your leadership will play a crucial role in meeting ambitious fundraising targets while upholding the highest standards in ethical fundraising.

As well as line managing a direct team of up to 8 fundraisers, you'll work closely with RSPB reserves within your geographical area and lead on National Shows at the NEC to maximise membership opportunity for the RSPB.

This is a hands-on role supporting, coaching and motivating your team whilst also fundraising alongside them to lead by example.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership & Coaching: Recruit, train and develop a high-performing team of Fundraisers. Foster a positive team culture and lead by example to achieve fundraising targets
• Performance Management: Monitor KPIs including membership volume, average donation amounts, Gift Aid uptake and attrition rates. Conduct regular reviews and provide coaching to continuously improve performance
• Operational Oversight: Manage the day-to-day logistics of your team, ensuring compliance with fundraising regulations and alignment with RSPB values
• Relationship Building skills: Build effective partnerships with key stakeholders outside of the F2F Team, including Reserve Managers, to maximise membership opportunity.

We champion the rights of disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs (SEN), helping schools and early years settings to become more inclusive, equitable and welcoming.

As an Education Programme Manager, you will manage and deliver programmes across our education and equalities work. Current areas include the Healthy Schools and Healthy Early Years London programmes, the EYSEND Partnership supporting early years and family hubs to improve inclusion, and national networks such as the Special Educational Consortium (SEC).

Alongside programme delivery, you will gather and analyse evidence, contribute to consultation responses and help build consensus among a wide range of stakeholders. This work supports our aim to influence and improve practice and policy for disabled children and those with SEN.

The role involves managing complex programmes from planning through delivery and evaluation. You will monitor budgets, produce resources and reports, and organise engaging events and training for education professionals. You will work closely with schools, early years settings, local authorities, health and public health partners, professional and voluntary sector networks, funders and policy makers, as well as parents, carers and children and young people, turning evidence and insight into practical impact for education.

• You have strong analytical skills, with experience using Google Analytics, PPC, Google Grants and social media monitoring tools to evaluate and improve campaigns.
• You are skilled in building productive relationships with suppliers, agencies and internal teams, ensuring campaigns run smoothly and deliver results.
