About the Youth Endowment Fund  

 We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.   

In recent years violent crime has risen significantly. Homicides, assaults, robberies and offences involving weapons have all seen sustained growth. We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.   

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by funding great initiatives, finding what works and working for change – scaling up and spreading the practices that make a difference.    

Our Change team does this by building excellent relationships and sharing evidence of what works with organisations and key individuals across the public, private, third sectors and local communities. We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, proactive and highly organised Change and Events Officer to join our Change team to help us fulfil our mission.    

 Key responsibilities  

Most fundamentally, your job is to work as a member of our Change team to make sure we’re excellent at running events and managing relationships with key stakeholders. You’ll make sure the team is incredibly organised and has the support it needs to work effectively. Key responsibilities:  

• Event Organising. Help to organise events, from small roundtables to large in person conferences. You will help make sure events run brilliantly, from booking venues to managing invites and organising materials.   

• External Relationship Management Support. Provide support to the team in managing external relationships by scheduling meetings, organising workshops and developing materials.   

• Meeting Effectiveness. Make sure certain meetings are effective. You’ll do this by organising the meetings, taking great minutes, making sure we keep track of things we said we would do and saving the documents in the right place.   

• Project Support. Help ensure projects within the Change teams are done brilliantly. This may involve administrative tasks, tracking deadlines or leading projects as needed.   

• Query Management. Monitor and respond to general queries by managing the team inbox.   

• Salesforce Reporting and Stakeholder Communication. Lead on coordinating Salesforce reporting and effective communication outreach for key stakeholder groups.  

• Stakeholder Engagement and Change Activities. Develop and support stakeholder engagement and Change activities, including monitoring and compiling feedback from surveys.  

• Team Scorecard Coordination. Lead on co-ordinating the team scorecard, ensuring that the team is on track with targets. 

• Collaboration. Work closely with other roles (including our Operations and Culture team) within YEF to ensure coordinated efforts and sharing of best practices.

Hybrid working details    

The office is based in Central London. Those living in and around London are expected to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. If you live outside of London and work remotely, you’ll be expected to work from the London office 2 days per month.

Background

Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3250 children in 2024-25.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.

Job Summary

Chapter One is seeking a London Programme Manager who is an excellent communicator and is able both to motivate and support schools and teachers to implement our online reading volunteers programme, and also to ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to disadvantaged communities is maximised throughout the academic year.

The post is ideal for someone looking for part-time, flexible, term-time only work from a home base and who is able to travel frequently around London. Chapter One currently works in the following London boroughs: Barnet, Camden, Haringey, Islington, Lambeth, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Southwark. The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers (also part-time) who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work additional hours during busy autumn months, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers

• Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms

• Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and communicate this to others

• Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up

• Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom

• Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles

• Through regular visits to/contact with schools, provide on-going embedded professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year as needed

• Proactively monitor classroom adherence/fidelity to the Chapter One model, including systematic review of data reports and volunteer feedback, taking proactive action to resolve problems that arise

• Analyse and manipulate data (largely in Google sheets) to produce reports and identify trends

• Create monthly data summaries for all participating classrooms

• Lead annual review meetings for senior leadership at participating schools

• Support programme monitoring, evaluation and research as required

• Coordinate in person and virtual school ‘visits’ of volunteer teams to classrooms where necessary

About The Access Project

We support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. We work with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university. Our volunteers are trained and supported to be effective tutors who work with our students for an hour a week to raise their grades. About the role

This role is available at an important time for The Access Project as we expand our mission, seek to pilot a new programme model, and move into new school contexts. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the skills for programme improvement, a strong interest in research, and a deep passion for our mission to support students to place and succeed at selective universities.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who is comfortable working across teams to make change. You’ll be the lead and expert on The Access Project’s in-school university readiness work with responsibility for designing and quality assuring the provision, supporting the learning and development for our school-based staff to effectively deliver the programme content. This position is integral to ensuring The Access Project is delivering a high-quality programme that supports the needs of our students and drives the outcomes of the programme across all regions and schools. The postholder will also be responsible for amplifying The Access Project’s voice in the sector and responding to policy updates; with a focus on bringing their knowledge of the Higher Education sector and the experiences of our students to decisions about the direction of our own programme. They will also support further development of our programme-level Diversity and Inclusion work, to ensure that the programme is tailored where feasible to the needs of all students.

Duties and responsibilities

1) Design & Development

• Act as a senior collaborator to the annual programme design process. Work with the Head of Process Improvement & Programme Quality to incorporate University Access Officer, Programme Leadership, school, and student feedback on how best to drive our short term and long-term outcomes across our programmes.
• Project manage the implementation of changes driven out of programme design. This includes the creation of or changes to delivery resources and training materials, as well as to our university readiness framework and the Salesforce system that supports delivery.
• Work with Programme Managers to understand their delivery challenges, develop solutions and answer questions around university admissions, widening access and The Access Project’s own University Readiness Programme.
• Act as a senior contributor to the development of The Access Project’s programmatic Diversity and Inclusion work, working closely with the University Access Officer D&I Lead. This includes strong engagement with the D&I working group and designing and implementing systems and support to better serve our students with inclusion needs.
   

2) Research and Policy

• remain critically engaged with the widening participation/social mobility sector, and able to synthesise key changes/challenges and ensure that they are applicable/actionable by the organisation.
• Ensure that any relevant widening participation sector developments and trends are fed into The Access Project’s way of working. For example, this might be changes to resources for the programme or working with colleagues to communicate with students (e.g. on plans for A Level Results Day).
• To be an ambassador of The Access Project’s work and impact externally in the widening participation sector, including speaking at conferences, writing articles on our work, and engaging in external relations.
• Holding responsibility for The Access Project’s policy and research workstream, including contributing to the strategic direction of this work and undertaking research to drive the delivery of this workstream to promote The Access Project’s voice in the widening participation sector.
• Liaising closely with the Communications team to ensure that The Access Project’s responses to sector information and updates are timely and relevant to our Mission.
• Provide nuanced insight about the widening participation/Higher Education sector, with a clear take / coherent view on the landscape and how it’s changing, which would then enable us to make informed choices about our programme.

3) Quality Assurance

• Take responsibility for the operational implementation of the university readiness strand of the quality assurance strategy, to drive the quality of the activities The Access Project delivers to young people in schools.
• Participate in The Access Project’s quality assurance processes, including performing drop-ins on University Access Officers’ programme delivery, and coordinating with other members of the team to perform drop-ins in an efficient and effective manner.
• Embed learning from The Access Project’s quality assurance process into our standard practice. This will include delivering training and development sessions for University Access Officers, updates to resources and guidance for what best practice looks like.
• Contribute research on wider pedagogical best practice into our quality assurance work to ensure the highest quality in our delivery of educational programmes.

4) Student Voice

• Maximising student voice within programme design through the organisation and facilitation of student Delivery Review Meetings.
• Lead the development and administration of The Access Project’s annual student survey, considering the needs of key stakeholders across the organisation.

New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. The Services Manager will be the key operational lead for the Alliance, and oversee successful delivery of housing casework services to young people fleeing violence and exploitation who are referred in. You should have experience of working in services that support young people fleeing violence or who are impacted by the criminal justice system, and have a solid understanding of housing options for young people under 25. You should be exceptionally well organised and have excellent partnership management skills.

Your role will be to further develop and deliver a range of events and initiatives that the Harlequins Foundation offers to its supporters to help us to raise the funds we need to deliver our programmes. As the charitable arm of the Club, we deliver a variety of programmes aimed at achieving improved outcomes for education and employability, wellbeing and inclusion. The role will play a key part in delivering high-profile fundraising events while building the Foundation’s engagement with different communities and supporter types, being instrumental in delivering campaigns and events to engage new audiences with the Foundation’s purpose.

As a proactive and enthusiastic person, you'll need to be adept at managing multiple projects and events concurrently. Working closely with the Head of Fundraising and Engagement and within a small Fundraising team, the successful applicant will be responsible for delivering events from Harlequins matchday activations to Foundation fundraising events.

You will develop key relationships within the Foundation and Club’s network of supporters, suppliers and delivery partners and manage a portfolio of events and activities for a range of supporter groups.

The successful candidate will be experienced in planning and delivering a variety of events, ideally within the charity sector with a focus on fundraising. An ability to provide exceptional experiences, catering to different audiences including both sports fans and high-net worth individuals as appropriate. Some weekend and evening working will be required as part of the role.

Key Responsibilites

• Support the development and delivery of a varied portfolio of events and fundraising activities to meet agreed objectives, all of which reflect the spirit of the Harlequins Foundation
• Deliver high quality supporter care and stewardship, ensuring a quality experience for supporters at all events that reflect the values and identity of the Foundation, and build long-term relationships with our supporters

ROLDA (Romanian League in Defence of Animals) is a small animal welfare charity working to improve the lives of dogs, cats, and other animals in Romania and internationally. Since its establishment in 2006, ROLDA has become a beacon of hope for the millions of vulnerable stray animals in Romania – one of Europe's economically poorest nations. Our mission is to manage the homeless animal population, estimated to be millions, through six key focuses: rescue, rehabilitation, sheltering, sterilisation, and education. Within our shelters, inspired by British kennel design and maintained to meet EU animal welfare standards, we can house up to 700 stray dogs at a time. Here, they receive complete veterinary care, rehabilitation, and preparation for rehoming. Since 2006, we have helped over 48,000 animals (primarily dogs and cats) and built two shelters for dogs and one for disabled and senior cats. We also distribute support, primarily through small grants, to six other charities in Romania and over 40 shelters in Ukraine. We rehome mainly in Switzerland, Sweden, and the UK. In addition to our efforts in rescuing and rehoming animals, ROLDA tackles the root cause of Romania's homeless animals through comprehensive neutering programmes and educational initiatives. Understanding the needs of current and prospective students and pupils and their parents, and being able to identify digital plans and initiatives which will enable ArtsEd to meet both the long and short-term needs is a central aspect of the role.

The Digital Marketing Manager will lead in the planning and implementation of digitally creative and customer focused campaigns and will be responsible for the achievement of student and pupil recruitment targets. They will work closely with senior staff and the rest of the Marketing team to deliver highly effective experiences to all stakeholders and potential stakeholders.

About the Youth Endowment Fund 

We’re here to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to change things.  

In recent years, violent crime involving children has increased. This is a tragedy. Every child is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment that exists to reverse this trend. We will achieve this by finding out what works to prevent youth violence and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. We do this by funding, evaluating and then spreading the very best work on reducing youth violence across England and Wales. 

Central to this is the evaluation team.  The team is responsible for commissioning and monitoring complex and rigorous impact evaluations from experts in the field.

The Senior Evaluation Manager will play a key role in supporting the Assistant Director of Evaluation to lead elements of evaluation work. The post holder will also lead a team of two Evaluation Managers, ensuring they have the support to deliver a portfolio of evaluation projects. 

Key responsibilities 

The core of your job is to ensure that we are excellent at evaluation, so we can find out the best ways to prevent children and young people from becoming involved in violence. 

Evaluation 

Working with the Head of Evaluation the post holder will: 

• Implement the processes to assess the quality of evidence presented in funding applications and provide funding recommendations to the Grants and Evaluation Committee. 

• Shape the evaluation approach for individual grant rounds, including leading on this for a small number of rounds. 

• Provide technical expertise on evaluation to the team and lead the development of YEF’s thinking on one or more areas of evaluation. 

• Lead the delivery of YEF’s evaluation work, designing, commissioning and managing complex and large-scale evaluations.

• You have a post-graduate degree (Masters or PhD) in social science, social policy, public health, health services or other fields, with a significant quantitative component, or relevant experience equivalent to a Masters qualification. 

• You have strong knowledge, experience and technical expertise in evaluation methodologies including the ability to critically appraise the design of a variety of different evaluation designs. 

• You have quantitative analysis skills including experience of using advanced analytical software such as R, Stata or SPSS. 

• You have significant experience in carrying out or commissioning research including designing all aspects of the research and managing external contractors.  This may be in academia, government or a related sector.

Hybrid working details  

The office is based in Central London. Those living in and around London are expected to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. If you live outside of London and work remotely, you’ll be expected to work from the London office 2 days per month.

As Supporter Engagement Officer you’ll play a key role in helping us to engage new and existing supporters as well as helping to deliver first-class stewardship to retain support and build trust. As the Fundraising Partnerships Manager you will be responsible for delivering and managing strategic partnerships between corporate partners and the Harlequins Foundation, building strong relationships with a focus on maximising income and raising awareness of the Foundation’s purpose.

The Harlequins Foundation is the charitable arm of the Club, delivering programmes in our communities that primarily support young people to develop the Essential Skills, enabling success on and off the pitch.

This is an incredible opportunity for a corporate fundraising professional with an excellent grasp of working across all aspects of partnership management to make a difference with our impactful organisation. Working closely with the Head of Fundraising and Engagement and within a small Fundraising team, your focus will be on identifying and securing long-term, strategic partnerships with a variety of organisations as well as building on and maintaining those already in place.

You will develop key relationships within the Foundation and Club’s network of supporters and partners to manage a portfolio of different partnerships, securing donations, sponsorship, volunteers, communication opportunities and fundraising as relevant to each corporate relationship.

This role will have huge variety, requiring strong communication skills with both internal and external audiences, great organisational skills and experience of account management, ideally within the charity sector. You will also possess excellent networking, influencing, budget management and presentation skills. Some weekend and evening working will be required as part of the role.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development and delivery of a varied portfolio of partnership activities to meet agreed objectives, all of which reflect the spirit of the Harlequins Foundation
• Act as main point of contact for existing charity partners and stakeholders
• Deliver high quality supporter care and stewardship, ensuring a quality experience for partners that reflect the values and identity of the Foundation, and build long-term relationships with key contacts and stakeholders
• Maximise income from our portfolio of partnerships and drive fundraising through a variety of income streams related to corporate organisations
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to develop effective activity plans, with clear objectives and outcomes to engage with new and existing corporate partners
• Research and approach companies to maximise fundraising opportunities, developing and managing a pipeline of prospective partners that are in line with our overall values and identity
• With the support of the wider team, create engaging proposition presentations to approach new businesses, engaging with them and other stakeholders regularly, hosting visits and attending meetings where necessary
• Develop and promote sponsorship opportunities around Foundation events and programmes
• Regularly review the performance of partnerships and corporate relationships, make recommendations for improvement, and support decision-making regarding fit of new opportunities for the Foundation
• Cultivate and maintain excellent working relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to Harlequin FC, their partners and sponsors, Quins Supporters Association (QUINSSA), Harlequins Players Association (HPA), First XV members and other corporate supporters
• Ensure relevant processes and policies are in place to deliver a successful, profitable partnership programme
• Represent the Foundation both internally and externally, acting as an ambassador for the Foundation and advocating for our work

Person specification

Qualifications and experience

• Educated to degree level or demonstrable equivalent experience
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a professional environment dealing with external partners
• Proven ability to build relationships with a focus on fundraising
• Experience of generating income through partnerships, with an ability to innovate and maximise fundraising from corporate opportunities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to confidently present to stakeholders in person or online
• Ability to build excellent relationships and a confidence in networking and public speaking
• Experience of multiple tactics to secure meetings and develop relationships with prospects including, but not limited to, cold calling, emailing, running events, event networking and social media
• Experience developing and delivering engaging, relevant and impactful pitches and written proposals to prospective partners
• Strong team player and project leadership, ensuring clear and regular communication with the team and stakeholders as appropriate
• Competent user of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience of CRM systems and project management tools
• Experience of working within the sports charity/sports sector (desirable)
• Experience of working with high-net-worth individuals or celebrities would be an advantage
