We are working in partnership with Guildford Sunset Homes (GSH) a small, well-respected charitable trust based in Merrow, near Guildford, registered under the Communities and Societies Benefits Act of 2014, and who provide 87 social rent apartments for retired individuals of limited means from the local area. The estate features a converted Grade II listed Manor House and several purpose-built apartment blocks set within peaceful and well-maintained grounds.
GSH now seeks a new Trustee to join their friendly and dedicated Board, to work alongside a supportive team and professional estate management company, ELM Group, who employ two members of staff to take care of the day-to-day running of the Estate.
This is an exciting opportunity, where you will help guide the development and direction of a thriving retirement community, and improve the estate for their residents.

Who we are looking for
We are particularly keen to appoint Trustees with senior commercial or retail leadership experience, ideally from a large, complex organisation. This may include:
- National retail groups or membership organisations
- Visitor attractions or heritage organisations
- Consumer-facing brands with a values-led ethos
- Further Education and Higher Education
You may have held executive roles such as Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer, or Commercial Director – or you may now be operating in a non-executive or portfolio capacity.
Crucially, you will bring:
Strong financial and operational judgement
- Experience of transformation or turnaround
- A focus on commercial performance and organisational impact

The College’s requirements
The Corporation Board at Hull College is seeking to appoint three new governors to support the College’s strategic growth, academic excellence, and governance capability. These vacancies include: an opening on the Higher Education Advisory Committee; a vacancy for the role of Chair of the Standards Committee; and a role as Vice-Chair of the Corporation. All roles require individuals who can act as a critical friend by providing robust challenge, strategic oversight, and constructive support to senior leaders while helping ensure accountability, compliance, and progress against the College’s objectives.
The successful applicant to the Higher Education Advisory Committee will bring significant knowledge of Higher Education regulation and governance, including the Office for Students (OfS) conditions of registration, QAA frameworks, and statutory guidance. With experience of governance or leadership in HE or FE, they will contribute a strong understanding of academic assurance, compliance, and risk. Their role as a critical friend will involve offering independent insight, questioning standards where appropriate, and supporting the continued delivery of high-quality, compliant HE provision.
The incoming Chair of the Standards Committee will be an educationalist, ideally from a FE background, with substantial experience in curriculum quality, student outcomes, and sector-wide benchmarks. They will be confident in scrutinising performance data, challenging achievement rates, and applying their knowledge of Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework. This individual will be responsible for leading rigorous, evidence-based discussions and ensuring continuous improvement across teaching, learning, and progression. They will support the executive team while holding them accountable to high expectations for learner success.
The future Vice-Chair of the Corporation will be a senior leader with strong governance experience and a background in complex, high-level corporate or public sector settings. They will bring expertise in leadership resilience, talent management, and succession planning, and will Chair the Remuneration Committee. This role requires strategic thinking, a deep understanding of governance and accountability, and the ability to work collaboratively with the Chair, Board, and senior leaders to ensure effective leadership continuity and organisational stability.
New governors are supported through a structured induction to help them quickly understand their role, responsibilities, and the college’s strategic priorities. Before appointment, they receive a recruitment pack outlining the role and expectations. Once approved, they are welcomed with an appointment letter, key documents, and early meetings with the Chair and Director of Governance to explore board culture and key issues. An induction pack and mandatory training in areas like safeguarding, GDPR, and finance ensure a strong foundation.
To build college familiarity, governors tour facilities, meet staff and students, and observe meetings before active participation. A buddy system and specialist link roles (e.g. safeguarding or finance) deepen engagement. Throughout the first year, regular check-ins, ongoing development opportunities, and an appraisal support their growth.

Time commitment and meeting schedule
On average, the DfE expect governors to commit up to two days per month to effectively contribute to their role, including meetings, any preparation, committee involvements and on-site visits.
Hull College estimates that governors typically volunteer around two days per month to fulfil their responsibilities. While expectations may vary depending on the individual’s committee involvement or role, we encourage all prospective candidates to discuss their availability and capacity during the application process and the College has already laid out its 2025/2026 meeting schedule.
The Corporation Board meets five times per academic year, with one additional strategic away day and one SAR validation day. Committees meet between three and five times annually. Meetings are usually scheduled for Tuesdays or Thursdays at 4pm. Corporation meetings are encouraged in person at Hull College (Wilberforce Drive, Hull, HU1 3DG), though hybrid arrangements via Microsoft Teams are available. Committee meetings are primarily remote.

We are working in partnership with ELM Group, a not-for-profit organisation, consisting of RLHA (Retirement Lease Housing Association) and ELM Management (the non-retirement part the business). The group owns over 40 freeholds and manages another 60 estates in the South of England. The head office is in Frimley, Surrey and employs just over 160 staff.

They are seeking to recruit a Chair to join the Board for 2 terms of 3 years (6 years) in line with the National Housing Federation Code of Governance 2020.
The successful candidate will have an innovative approach, a passion for property and development, bringing either legal or financial knowledge alongside excellent project management
Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday morning of each month, (except June, August, and December). There are currently 6 members of the Board and 2 Leaseholder Board Members.

They manage a £27 million trust fund, historic properties, and charitable grants to ensure the flourishing of the church and community
It is a time of change in Redcliffe. Amidst the major construction in the north, a wider Neighbourhood Development Plan heralds a period of transformation. There is a plan to revitalise Redcliffe Way, making it a vibrant mixed-use area that connects the north and south of the parish along with a new community hub and a blend of housing, commercial spaces and public amenities, fostering a lively neighbourhood.

The Children’s Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury and neurodisability. About the role
We have made a number of key appointments to the Board and senior leadership team in the last 12-18 months, including a new Chair and Chief Executive. With some of our longest serving Trustees approaching the end of their terms, we are looking to make further appointments to our Board and committees to bring fresh, external perspective, challenge and leadership.
We are seeking two outstanding individuals to join our Board as Trustees, each bringing distinct expertise to support our continued growth and excellence.
- Chair of Audit & Risk Committee:
This pivotal role will take over from our departing Chair of the committee when her second term concludes in April 2025. We need someone with substantial financial expertise and a deep understanding of governance and risk management who can provide both effective oversight and practical support. The ideal candidate will have recent experience with audit committees and external audits, bringing the technical knowledge and confidence to engage with auditors when necessary.
While we’re open to various professional backgrounds, some understanding of regulation and the charity context would be particularly valuable.
Above all, we need someone who understands what good governance, risk management and Board assurance looks like and can help us maintain the highest standards in a regulated environment.
- Finance, Investment & Resources Committee Member:
Our second Trustee will join a committee that covers not just finance, but the full spectrum of our resources, including estates, people, and digital infrastructure. This is very much about financial management and commercial acumen rather than purely technical accounting.
We’re looking for someone who has run operations and can contribute to the strategic changes we’re implementing. Whether you’re a CEO, COO, or senior leader with a financial background, we want someone who brings that broader perspective of leading and managing an organisation and can help support executive leaders.
Who we are looking for
Both roles require Trustees who align with our mission and are genuinely excited by our work with children with brain injury and neurodisability. You’ll be joining a Board that’s been significantly refreshed over the past two years. We’re particularly committed to increasing diversity on our Board and would be especially pleased to hear from candidates with lived experience of brain injury, neurodisability, disability or neurodiversity, those from diverse ethnic backgrounds, lower socio-economic backgrounds, or who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ communities.
You’ll need to be an effective communicator who can build relationships across our organisation, absorb complex information, and think laterally to find pragmatic solutions. Most importantly, you must be able to commit the time needed to help drive the charity forward through this period of change, demonstrating high ethical standards and a clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Time Commitment
We estimate both roles require approximately the equivalent of two days per month.
This includes preparation for and attendance at board meetings, which typically meet 6 times a year, including our annual strategy away day, and committee meetings (committees typically meet 4-6 times annually). Outside of the formal meeting schedule, it is likely that additional time for relationship building and ad hoc discussions with the executive team and fellow board members.
Board meetings take place in person at our Tadworth site, in Surrey, though we maintain flexibility for online participation where appropriate. Committee meetings are generally held online.

We’re an executive search firm working across third sector, education and membership sectors to transform leadership and inspire change.

Pelican Parcels takes pre-loved and new item donations for babies and children up to age 12 and redistributes these to families facing financial hardship via various existing family services in Brighton & Hove and Sussex.
We are the only baby bank in Brighton and Hove!
We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about wanting to help local families. Our warehouse hours are from Monday to Thursday, 10am till 2pm.
Volunteer tasks vary but may include:
- Quality checking clothing, bedlinen, toys, books and other donations.
- Cleaning and safety checking prams, beds and highchairs.
- Greeting people bringing their donations and family service staff when they come to collect an order during course of duties.
Our next warehouse tour and volunteer inductions are on Monday 13th October or Monday 17th November. The training programme will then run on Mondays for four weeks with the option to switch to another day on completion. Please get in touch for more info.

Practical considerations
Our address is Units 1 & 2, Manor Industrial Estate, Newtown Road, Hove, BN3 7BA. We are close to Hove Station and other public transport. There is also free parking locally.
Our hours are 10am till 2pm from Monday to Thursday. We ask that volunteers give at least 2 hours a week during these hours.
We require our volunteers to have a reasonable level of fitness. Occasionally there are heavy bags to carry and other items such as beds and mattresses. This is for when we bring items out to our referral partners, when they collect these for the families they support, and when we bring donations in. We use step ladders to reach items that are on high shelves. There are online safety courses that all our volunteers need to undertake but if any of our volunteers have any prior injuries or medical conditions that prevent them from undertaking certain tasks then they can be excused from these particular tasks.
We provide basic DBS check for volunteers, otherwise we require volunteers to bring in their existing DBS certificates. We do not work directly with the families we support.
