Share Community is seeking a Chair for our Board of Trustees, and up to three further Trustees to fill upcoming vacancies on our Board.

Role: Chair, Share Community

The Chair is a crucial role for Share, working closely with the Chief Executive to provide inspirational leadership, and ensure the charity delivers its mission and vision. Alongside all the other trustees the Chair will provide oversight of the Charity’s governance and strategic direction.

The Chair will be committed to reducing the social injustice faced by disabled people, and model Share’s organisational values: we’re inclusive, supportive and ambitious and work with kindness, integrity and respect.

The principal responsibilities of the Chair include:

• Leading the trustee body in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of Share Community;
• Working in partnership with the Chief Executive, Executive Team and other trustees to ensure the charity delivers on its strategic and charitable objectives, vision, purpose and values;
• Ensuring that the Board reviews strategic issues, risks and opportunities on a regular basis, and can satisfy itself that systems are in place to take advantage of opportunities and mitigate risks.

Share is seeking a leader with experience at Board level as either a Trustee or Executive Director. Previous experience as a Chair is not a requirement of the role.

Role: Trustee, Share Community

Share’s trustee team has responsibility for overseeing strategy and performance. Share currently has ten trustees, and in light of some current trustees coming to the end of their term, is looking to recruit three more with the enthusiasm, skills and commitment we need to help guide Share through the next phase of its development.

Prospective Trustees must have a commitment to Share’s vision and values, and a passion for making a difference in the lives of disabled people. Share is particularly keen to encourage applications from individuals with specific experience of:

• Fundraising, particularly growing or diversifying income streams;
• Property and estates management;
• Setting up or running a social enterprise.

Share is looking for people with or without Board level experience, and we would welcome applications from adults of all ages.

Share is a charity based in Wandsworth and Lambeth, working with adults with learning disabilities and autism.

The story of Share began in 1972, when a group of disabled people came together as a self-help group to improve employment and training opportunities for disabled people. Over the years, Share has grown and evolved, responding to changing needs and opportunities.

Share appointed a new Chief Executive in 2022, and the Charity is in the second year of a three-year strategy. Delivery of our strategy will help Share achieve its mission of providing a safe, empowering and progressive experience where disabled adults can develop their skills, wellbeing and purpose to enable them to live happier, healthier and more independent lives.

• Helping grow awareness and support for local & national fundraising

• Supporting in our bookshop by manning the space, rotating stock, tidying and pricing books while always providing a friendly and welcoming approach.
• Attending regular meetings and suggesting fundraising ideas/feedback so we can fulfil our fundraising plan.
• Using your particular skills in creative ways to raise funds
• Answering questions people may have about the National Trust and being able to explain where donations go and impact they make.
• Ensuring we follow fundraising guidance, regulations and best practice
• Supporting big fundraising campaigns or projects.

Time Commitment:

The role of a Trustee typically involves attending regular meetings and dedicating time to prepare for those meetings, as well as occasional additional commitments as needed. What We are Looking for in New Trustees

We are looking for trustees who will help us to continue to grow the charity’s impact and profile. Applicants should be driven by a desire to support an organisation at the forefront of providing exceptional equality, diversity and inclusion training and consultancy. We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.

We are particularly looking for trustees who have some leadership experience or experience of leading in the charity sector. Terms of Appointment

Terms of Office

• Trustees are appointed for a term of up to three years and can be reappointed up to three times.  
• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time Commitment

• Boarding meetings are quarterly. Trustees are expected to attend at least 75% of meetings, including the Annual General Meeting. Meetings are currently held in person at Suite 11, Davey House, 31a St Neots Road, St Neots, Cambridgeshire, PE19 7BA. Trustees may also be part of sub-groups which will meet independently of the main board meetings. These meetings will be a combination of online and face-to-face meetings.
•  In addition, trustees are expected to devote on average two hours per week to the role. This may involve scrutinising board papers, providing advice on new initiatives, providing support with ad hoc requests, supporting staff recruitment, disciplinaries and complaints, representing EqualiTeach at meetings and conferences or any other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Make a lasting impact on young people in two inner London communities

Our Vision: Through an exceptional Central Foundation education, every student learns, develops, and grows so they can reach their full potential.

Central Foundation Schools of London (CFSL) is a charitable foundation which supports two amazing voluntary aided Schools based in the East End of London – Central Foundation Boys’ School in Islington and the Girls’ School in Tower Hamlets. Between them the two schools support over 2,500 young people from highly diverse communities and backgrounds.

The Foundation has just completed a major building redevelopment project with the Boys' School and is about to start a programme to extend the Sixth Form facilities and provision at the Girls' School. Beyond that the Foundation has just embarked on its first 3-year strategy which aims to leverage our skills, funding and influence to collaborate with our schools  to strengthen their education provision and outcomes.

The Foundation are seeking four new Board members to serve for an initial term of four years. We are particularly keen to appoint:

• Two new trustees with experience of leadership the secondary education sector and/or a strong understanding of education policy and the wider education context in which our schools are working.
• A further Board member with a strong background in finance who would also serve as a member of our Finance & Audit or Investment Committee, or possibly both.
• A new trustee with a keen interest in creating opportunities for young people potentially through experience in careers development, corporate partnerships, fundraising or income generation.

The Foundation Board meets in person quarterly and has an annual away day. As well as being members of the Board, trustees are asked to join one of the sub-committees or project groups - these meetings are usually hybrid with one in-person meeting each year.

New College Durham is looking for volunteers to join its Board of Governors and use their personal and professional knowledge and experience to shape the strategic direction of the College. 

The Board is responsible for the success of the College.  Its role is to establish a vision, mission and strategy, provide financial oversight, hold the College’s senior leaders to account for the quality of education and ensure risks are managed appropriately.  As a Governor you will support and challenge our executive management team and help the Board make decisions that will impact on student achievement, their longer-term outcomes and the future direction and growth of the College. We want people who bring new ideas, strategic thinking, are willing to ask questions and speak their mind - we are ambitious, dynamic and forward focused and we hope you are too.

This voluntary role offers great opportunities for personal and professional development. We will work with you to align your expertise and interests with the Board’s needs. You will receive ongoing training, have access to a mentor and be reimbursed for expenses. You would be expected to attend six corporation meetings throughout the year, one or two committee meetings per term and the Annual Strategic Planning Day. We would also encourage you to get involved with College life by attending College events to meet students, staff and stakeholders such as award ceremonies, staff and student conferences, performances, exhibitions and stakeholder events.

You will be part of a thriving organisation with an excellent reputation and you will gain experience working alongside our Senior Leadership Team and Board members from a wide variety of backgrounds.

We are currently seeking applications in particular from those with experience in health and life sciences, digital, STEM disciplines, HR/people management, sustainability and green skills manufacturing but we operate in a fast-moving environment and would encourage applications from all individuals with a passion for education whatever their skill set.

Commitment:

Estimated time needed is up to five hours per month.

Six corporation meetings per year plus Annual Strategic Planning Day / one to two committee meetings per term. Meetings are usually 4.00pm to 6.00pm. Meetings are usually in person, with the option of online attendance where required.

The Organisation:
We are an environmental education charity, best known for providing residential and day field trips for those studying biology and geography. But our mission is to create outstanding opportunities for everyone to learn about nature. 

We have welcomed over 3.7 million visitors since we opened our first centre in 1946. In 2023 123,000 or so learners visited our centres: most were aged 25 and below and were in school or university groups. We (the Charity and its trading subsidiary) employ 325 or so people and in an accounting context have annual turnover in the range £15m to £20m.

You may have had limited opportunity to explore nature, and you might be new to outdoor learning. And not every Trustee needs to be an academic, ecologist or environmentalist or have charity trustee, company director or equivalent experience. We are in particular looking for individuals who are able to bring their skills and expertise in the following areas:

•  Hospitality and tourism
•  The delivery of inner city projects for young people
•  Strategic management and development of a property portfolio

The University was established in 1495 to serve the north-east of Scotland, today our university is a global presence in higher education. A dual focus on our region and the wider world is as important to us today as it was five centuries ago.

After serving on our governing body, University Court, for a number of years, four of our independent Court members will step down in August 2024. The University is now seeking exceptional candidates to fill these vacancies to ensure the continued successful delivery of the University’s priorities and objectives, the setting of its strategic direction and commitment to its values and mission.

The following areas of professional expertise and/or experience would bring particular value to University Court and to the roles of independent members:

• Chartered accountancy within complex or international organisations

• People and culture at senior executive level
