Challenge Works is looking for a Programme Coordinator to join its growing team and work across several of its programmes. This role will be key to support the development and delivery of challenge prizes across a broad range of social and technology themes including: disruptive tech, environment, international development, global health and government innovation.

Our projects are usually complex with a high public profile, they have significant impact on the lives of many thousands of people, and involve working with an exciting mix of tech entrepreneurs, civil society organisations (not for profits and public interest organisations) and government bodies

We have launched prizes that include improving outcomes for Nepalese farmers, improving access to energy for refugees and the £10m Longitude Prize for antimicrobial resistance. Some of our current prizes include the EU Social Innovation Competition, the Toyota Mobility Unlimited Challenge and prizes aimed at using tech to reduce social isolation, improving access to justice and giving people control over their financial data in order to access innovative products tailored to them.

Job purpose

We are looking for a Programme Coordinator to support all aspects in the delivery of Challenge Works programmes. An enthusiastic team player with a knack for problem solving. Someone who is able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, moving effortlessly from day-to-day management to supporting the team on planning and strategy. The ideal candidate will have some programme assistant experience, including experience of developing, maintaining and revising systems, budget and financial monitoring, relationship management, communications and management of social media channels.

The Role

Programme Coordination

• Work closely with Programme Managers to enable smooth day-to-day programme execution.
• Monitoring of milestones, evaluation and finance to keep check of project budgets and deadlines. Flagging action points to the Programme Manager when necessary.
• Develop, maintain and revise (as necessary) systems that will underpin the delivery of the prizes.
• Carry out procurement activities end-to-end, including development of contracts, legal documents and CRM
• Development of key documents relating to the delivery of the prizes.
• Manage internal and external meetings, including developing agendas and writing minutes.

Stakeholder Management & Teamwork

• Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of the prizes.
• Day-to-day management of external relationships, from stakeholder networks to high-profile individuals and prize entrants.

Communications & Events

• Help support communications activities of various challenge prizes, for example, managing monthly newsletters, social media and updating websites.
• Help create opportunities for public engagement activities.
• Help to create events, workshops and to deliver them to a high standard.
• Work with diverse Nesta departments including financial, legal, and communications.
• Take on ad-hoc projects and tasks to support the team and its prizes as necessary.
• Occasional International travel and out of hours work.

The Person

Strong programme and client coordination

• Solid organisational, prioritisation and time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
• Initiative and drive, proactively identifies tasks that need to be actioned to enable effective delivery of the programme.
• Ability to coordinate and control aspects of large projects, along with general office support/administrative capacity
• Experience of working to tight deadlines, delivering high quality outputs across multiple projects and tasks.

What we offer

About Us:

ROLDA (Romanian League in Defence of Animals) is a small animal welfare charity working to improve the lives of dogs, cats, and other animals in Romania and internationally. Since its establishment in 2006, ROLDA has become a beacon of hope for the millions of vulnerable stray animals in Romania – one of Europe's economically poorest nations. Our mission is to manage the homeless animal population, estimated to be millions, through six key focuses: rescue, rehabilitation, sheltering, sterilisation, and education. Within our shelters, inspired by British kennel design and maintained to meet EU animal welfare standards, we can house up to 700 stray dogs at a time. Here, they receive complete veterinary care, rehabilitation, and preparation for rehoming. Since 2006, we have helped over 48,000 animals (primarily dogs and cats) and built two shelters for dogs and one for disabled and senior cats. We also distribute support, primarily through small grants, to six other charities in Romania and over 40 shelters in Ukraine. We rehome mainly in Switzerland, Sweden, and the UK. In addition to our efforts in rescuing and rehoming animals, ROLDA tackles the root cause of Romania's homeless animals through comprehensive neutering programmes and educational initiatives. Since 2006, we have successfully neutered nearly 20,000 cats and dogs, significantly impacting Romania's severe overpopulation of animals.

Job Overview:

As the Country Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the growth and impact of ROLDA in the UK. This is a remote position (for now) that requires strategic thinking, people management skills, financial acumen, and a commitment to achieving our organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy Development:

Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement growth strategies for the organisation.

Drive initiatives such as increasing adoptions, fostering programmes, volunteer engagement, and support fundraising activities.

Support Fundraising Manager with income generation growth

Research and Insight:

Represent the charity externally and liaise with other charities, including other ROLDA branches.

Stay informed about industry trends, research, and insights to inform organisational strategies.

People Management:

Empower and develop the small operational team, including volunteers providing leadership and necessary resources for successful completion of initiatives.

Support the recruitment of volunteers.

Foster a positive and collaborative work environment and strong relationships with stakeholders.

Sibling Arts C.I.C. co-creates multi-arts projects with queer, trans, sex worker & migrant communities. Looking for a Finance & Administration Officer (FAO to lead on our financial and administrative needs, and grow with us as we do more ambitious projects with social impact at their core.

We are looking for a skilled, dynamic and conscientious individual to lead on our financial and administrative needs, and work with us to grow our organisation.

You will be one of four core staff roles in the organisation. After the first year there may be space for role to develop and expand.

You will lead on financial management, working closely with Directors to develop and execute a comprehensive financial strategy.

Financial Strategy and Management

• Co-creating and monitoring budgets, org-wide and for projects

• Monitoring multiple income streams inc. sales, grants, investments

• Co-designing core/project accounting ledgers to facilitate reporting and monitor metrics

• Streamlining and automating systems, training staff in how to use them

• Support the process of becoming a C.I.O. and adapting finance and reporting systems for new level of requirements

• Managing cashflow and reserves to manage risk.

 

Reporting

• Reporting to HMRC, Companies House and the Charity Commission

• Liaising with our accountant to get the best systems in place for ease and accuracy of reporting and accounting

• Reporting to multiple funders with different priorities and expense restrictions

• Creating an automated financial reporting system that tracks costs across core, projects, and different funding streams for each

• Overseeing compliance with HMRC including VAT, PAYE and accessing tax benefits such as Theatre Tax Relief (TTR) alongside our accountant.

 

Administration

• Compiling and digitising receipts and invoices

• Setting up staff and project producer expense accounts where necessary

• Liaising with banking and ensuring staff access to online and card payment

• Creating and using new reference administrative reference systems and filing systems.

 

Human Resources

• Communicating with our community members, artists and staff about invoicing requirements and payment details, mindful of individuals’ complex needs

• Overseeing setup and budgeting of employment benefits, bonuses, commission, freelance contracts and how to integrate these

• Overseeing creation of a platform for communicating financials transparently to our community of marginalised artists (longer term)

 

Funding Support

• Note: this is a support role as one of the Artistic Directors will spearhead new funding applications, you will not be applying independently

• Researching and identifying new funding streams, archiving applications, making templates

• Seeking advice from current funders and NGO partners about where to apply

• Tracking funding applications, reporting deadlines, meeting financial requirements

• Following-up on investors, scheduling regular communications with Artistic Directors.
   

Essential skills and requirements

• Proficiency with Mac and Windows

Background:

Street Child believes every child deserves to go to school and learn. Our projects focus on education, child protection, and livelihood support to address the social, economic, and structural issues underpinning today’s education crisis. We partner with local organizations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programs. We use evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale-up of programs to create maximum impact for most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s most challenging places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Since 2008 we have helped over 250,000 children go to school and learn and supported over 25,000 families to set up businesses to afford the cost of educating their children.

Part 1: Role Purpose:

This role aims to offer financial and operations management support to Great Lakes and Central Africa Region programs, focusing majorly on Street Child Programmes in DRC. The role reports to both Great Lakes and Central Africa Regional Representative and Head of Finance in Africa.

The role holds a senior position within the Street Central Africa Region team and will oversee Street Child – financial and operational setup to support operationalizing all program/project implementation in full compliance with donors’ and SC operational standards. The role will also provide financial support to programs across Great Lakes and Central Africa and partner organizations to support the development and implementation of robust financial management and reporting systems and assess and strengthen the control environment, financial management, grant management, and reporting. It will be building the finance and grants management capacity of Street Child staff and partners. A vital part of this is facilitating communication between Programmes and Finance staff.

Part 2: Key Responsibilities:

Finance Management:

• Supervise the country's standard financial systems establishment and maintenance in line with STREET-CHILD Financial Policy and Procedures, donor and local legislation requirements to provide appropriate levels of security and controls over the organization's resources and operations across the country to ensure success, consistency, and compliance.
• Develop and update quarterly the country's Master Budget to ensure that all funding gaps are covered.
• Provide strong leadership to the Finance and Admin team in all offices, whether with direct line management or technical, ensuring competent and motivated staff are hired and retained.
• Provide financial advice to the budget holders and local partners, ensure adequate support is provided to the program, and ensure the alignment of resource allocations with organizational priorities at the budgeting and implementation stages.
• Ensure that monthly accounting closure is timely, accurate, and compliant with STREET-CHILD financial policies and procedures for all Street-Child field offices and perform the bank reconciliation as appropriate.
• Using the Street-Child accounting system, produce the Budget Vs.—actuals for internal use by the country team and budget holders on a monthly basis.
• Oversee all financial and logistical requests made by the technical team and ensure they are in line with the Street-Child guidelines (Advance request, travel request, leave request, Toil request).
• Lead on applying Street-Child anti-fraud and anti-corruption policy and ensure all DRC staff understand and adhere to it, including Zero tolerance.
• Ensure regular financial and operational checks are performed for each local partner involved in Street-Child project implementation.
• Elaborate, review, and update Finance Standard Operating Procedures for STREET-CHILD DRC and across the Central and Great Lakes region as required and relevant.
• Conduct spot checks on transactions be responsible for maintaining transparency and accountability within finance and administration.
• Build financial management capacity for local partners in the region.

Grant Management and Budget proposal:

• Collaborating with other managers during proposal development, lead on the costing in proposal writing.
• Produce grant financial reports for donors in their formats.
• With the Senior Programme Manager, co-lead monthly grants review meetings involving all active partners.
• Manage the budget review, cost extension, realignment, and alert on any potential risk.
• Ensure appropriate measures are taken to address audit findings and recommendations associated with all grants.

Operations Oversight:

• Lead all aspects of HR, administration, procurement and logistics in the region
• Adequately manage internal and external HR and admin risks, highlight & resolve relevant issues with national institutions with support from the country leadership team (Taxes, labour inspection).
• Maintain daily responsibility for local staff issues, i.e., contracts, payroll, job descriptions, salary scales, leave, and benefit in support of the HR and Admin Assistant.
• Facilitate frequent staff meetings, and update the staff on the new Street-Child guidelines, regulations, etc.
• Lead the outsourcing of some services such as staff medical insurance, legal issues and the adherence to national labour laws, taxation systems and rules, social security, and insurance rules, etc.
• Lead in running procurement, ensuring value for money and overseeing all contracts which are placed with suppliers
• Ensure that all necessary agreements, permits, and licenses for Street-Child operations in DRC are in place, and keep updated on national rules and regulations pertaining to Street-Child activities.
• Lead staff adherence to all processes and ensure strict and contextualized application across the DRC program.
• Ensure proper asset management by initiating tools and control systems, including tagging.

Attributes Essential Desirable

Education / Qualifications:

• Educated to degree level or higher.
• Recognised Accountancy Qualification.
• Degree in International Business Administration, finance or related field; or attendance at specific relevant training courses.

Experience and Knowledge:

• 6 years post qualification experience.
• Experience of implementing internal controls and finance procedures.
• Experience of managing multi donor grants and good knowledge of donor compliance rules and requirements – in particular working with ECHO, BHA, EU, SIDA, NMFA, FCDO, USAID, UNICEF, ECW, WFP, etc.
• Knowledge of development issues and concepts.

Skills and Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of finance & logistics policy within non-governmental organizations.
• Knowledge of computer applications and accounting software’s.
• Excellent relationship building skills, with an ability to skilfully navigate both national and international stakeholders.
• Knowledge of French, Swahili or other relevant local languages.

We Are Survivors are looking for an individual, who has the passion, motivation, and keen eye for detail to come and join its ever-growing (and utterly amazing) Central Operations Directorate, as our new Admin Co-Ordinator.

For the past 15 years, We Are Survivors has provided survivor-focused therapeutic and advocacy support to male victims/survivors of sexual abuse, rape, and sexual exploitation. More recently, we have been commissioned by NHS England to provide trauma-informed support within each North West prison establishment.

Each of the incredible survivors and individuals that walks through our doors or requests our support, begins their journey by completing a referral, you will help support the processing of these – from referral opening to closure. As well as supporting the Operations Team in the maintenance of high-quality client data and providing other general administrative functions that helps the running of our support services.

As an Area Manager you will give leadership, direction and guidance to the staff of Medaille Trust to ensure the provision and development of a high quality service in line with the Trust’s Mission, Values and Strategy.

You will have a good understanding of the CQC framework relating to Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.  You will carry out quarterly assurance audits in all safe houses ensuring any appropriate action is taken where necessary.

You will line manage, induct, mentor, coach and support Service Managers.  Additionally, you will ensure that any complaints, grievances and disciplinaries are investigated and responded to in an effective and timely manner in line with Medaille Policies.

Although the post is home based, the post holder will be expected to travel frequently to our safe houses within the South and London areas with some overnight stays.

You must have previous experience in a relevant sector or experience of working with adults that are vulnerable.  Experience of managing staff, carrying out line management, supervision and appraisals is essential.  Additionally, you must have experience of setting up Service User Engagement groups.
