Job description

Please note that we will consider applications for interim cover between now and the recruitment of a permanent member of staff.

Job purpose

This post is designed to ensure

  1. All staff are well trained in data management, and
  2. all projects’ charitable work is thoroughly documented.

The evaluation officer will train staff, and then check that all required data is being:

  • Fully captured
  • Accurately recorded
  • Correctly reported
  • Kept secure

Alongside this training and assessment, the evaluation officer will document all projects’ theories of change. I.e. understand their inputs, the work done, what are the outputs, outcomes and impact. This will lead into further developing the types of data we collect.

Key tasks

  • Drawing up written theories of change for all work strands through team workshops
  • 1:1 training in Charity Log and Excel for staff, students and volunteers
  • Charity Log reporting – assessing success of data entry (completeness and accuracy) and reporting back regularly to individuals and their line managers
  • Data collection: design, implementation and maintenance
  • Collecting confirmations that trainees have understood individual training elements

Experience/ Skills/ Attributes


  • Effective Excel skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The capacity to be assertive about requirements
  • Unfailingly polite
  • Strong commitment to data protection
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Ability to assist in creating effective and efficient systems for gathering and analysing complex data.


  • Experience of databases e.g. Charity Log, Salesforce etc
  • Experience of Theories of Change
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Experience of running workshops
  • GDPR knowledge

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Understanding of Confidentiality in practice
  • Understanding of Equality & Diversity in practice
  • Understanding and commitment to Staff professional development
  • Understanding and commitment to ensure compliance with the legislation and internal policies and procedures
