We are looking for an enthusiastic events assistant to join the team in our exciting new community space! Plateful Cafe is a recently established charity that seeks to help refugees in the surrounding area into employment within the food and hospitality sector. 

We have opened a community cafe selling delicious Middle Eastern food! Our cafe is staffed by people with refugee status and experiences of forced migration who are being trained to work the food industry, as well as dedicated volunteers like you. We will be running regular community events and fundraisers for which we need a team of events assistants to help plan and run.

The role:

- Help organise monthly community dinners featuring three course meals from around the globe to enable the charity to engage with and attract donors.

- Help with running the dinner on the daywith tasks including welcoming the guests, serving food and drinks, take payments, setting up and clearing, etc.

- In a team plan and organise other events and fundraisers throughout the year, for example refugee week.

- Work with the marketing volunteers, providing details of upcoming events for promotion; take pictures and quotes at the event.

Skills & Requirements:

• Prior experience of events planning and organisation
• A passion and keenness to engage in community-based work to support refugees and serve the local community
• Good organisation skills including: effective time management, punctuality and delegation of tasks.
• A flexible and proactive attitude to working
• Good responsiveness to emails/ text/ whatsapp
• Practical skills to help prepare and set-up the café for events
• Able to work well in a team and communicate effectively with the rest of the staff and visitors of the cafe
•  A willingness to learn new skills

Desirable but not required:

• Prior experience working with refugees, people seeking asylum or other vulnerable groups
• Prior experience of involvement in charity fundraising events

Monthly community dinner times: 10-1pm (cooking); Afternoon: 1-5pm (preparing the hall); Evening: 6-10pm (running the dinner).

Can you help us by providing a calm, safe, and caring environment for our small furries whilst we find them their fur-ever home?

Often when we think about animal fostering, cats, and dogs spring to mind, but have you ever thought about fostering our smaller animals? The RSPCA received more than 5,000 reports last year about rabbits and other small furries relating to neglect or abandonment and rescued an average of 340 small furries a month! To help us with the rehoming of these small animals, we are actively looking to add to our fantastic team of volunteer fosterers.

As a small animal fosterer, you would play an essential role in providing the animals in our care with a temporary home whilst they are being rehomed. Like us, even small furries have specific needs and requirements, but rest assured, once we have guided you through the fostering process the animal centre will ensure that you have all the necessary guidance, equipment, food, and veterinary care.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Provide them with care, safe suitable housing, and space for playtime, as outlined in our policies and guidelines.

• Ensure that they are groomed if appropriate and fed and watered.

• Provide them with suitable and clean bedding to keep them cosy.

• Give them lots of attention and plenty of cuddles as they are very sociable animals.

What We’re Looking For:

• Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience of caring for animals.

• Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.

• For their wellbeing, our small furries may need to be fostered in pairs, so please bear this in mind.

• Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).

• You should be located in South Buckinghamshire or within a reasonable distance.

There is opportunity to lead on projects across web development and UX and web design, and facilitate the direction of the working group.

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Could you be our new Chair?  

Our fantastic Chair’s tenure will be coming to an end in 2026, so we are looking to appoint her successor to help Student Minds improve university communities so that every student gets the mental health support they need to reach their goals.

At Student Minds, we’re working to improve university communities so that no student is held back by their mental health. So it should come as no surprise that we are keen to reflect the communities we serve, maintain a diverse board and ensure student voices are represented. This is key to our mission and our continued impact. 

We are open-minded about the professional background of this individual and are mostly looking for someone with experience of leading effective, inclusive teams, of chairing complex organisations or meetings, and in building influential cross-sector partnerships.

Key responsibilities

Student Minds Chair is expected to commit to the following: 

• Preparation and attendance at four board meetings a year. Board meetings are held online and take place on weekdays from 5 - 7.30 pm. 

• Preparation and attendance at two in-person board away days each year, usually from 12.30 - 5 pm. These usually take place in Leeds and include a lunchtime or evening social.

• Monthly supervision calls with the Chief Executive

• Annual in-person appraisal of the Chief Executive 

• Support with board appraisals and recruitment 

• Ad-hoc meetings and conversations with the senior leadership team as required. This usually constitutes approximately a further five working days a year.

• Attendance at relevant task-group meetings and/or committees.

Currently we use facebook, instagram, X, Linkedin and youtube, but we're keen to expand our reach and do more. Within our website, we even have our own social network and community and without doubt we can make better use of that too.

There's so much we can do and we firmly believe social media, when used correctly, could allow us to grow an army of members on every continent who can help us on both a local and an international level so we can make communities everywhere safer, happier, healthier, better aware and more sustainable places to live.

So now we are seeking a dynamic and creative Volunteer Social Media Manager to oversee our organisation’s online presence across various digital platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing engaging content, managing social media campaigns, and fostering positive relationships with our online community. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape our brand image and connect with audiences in innovative ways. The ideal applicant will possess strong communication skills, a keen eye for trends, and experience in public relations and social media management.

Duties

• Develop and implement comprehensive social media strategies aligned with the charity's goals.
• Create, curate, and schedule engaging content across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others.
• Monitor social media channels for customer interactions, comments, and messages; respond promptly to foster community engagement.
• Analyse performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and optimise content accordingly.
• Collaborate with marketing and PR teams to ensure brand consistency and maximise outreach efforts.
• Manage online reputation by addressing feedback and managing crisis communications when necessary.
• Stay informed on the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices to keep the organisation at the forefront of digital engagement.

Skills & Experience

• Social Media Management, Content Creation, and Strategy Development skills
• Knowledge of Analytics, Social Media Metrics, and trend analysis
• Creativity and ability to design engaging campaigns for diverse platforms
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Understanding of online activism or passion for creating positive social change is a plus
• Access to a reliable internet connection and ability to work remotely
• Prior experience with social media platforms, tools, and scheduling software is beneficial
• Proven experience in social media management with a strong portfolio of successful campaigns.
• Excellent written communication skills with an ability to craft compelling content tailored to different audiences.
• Strong understanding of public relations principles and how they apply within digital environments.
• Proficiency in social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social.
• Ability to analyse data analytics to inform strategic decisions and demonstrate campaign success.
• Organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
