The Senior Philanthropy and Partnership Manager is a new role, bringing the staff team to eight. In the six years since it was established, Spotlight has had significant trust fundraising success and established strong relationships with institutional funders who understand our work and its impact. Under a new three year strategy we are seeking to sustainably grow and diversify our funding base - across trusts and foundations and by establishing a major donor programme to enable us to increase our impact.

We are looking for someone experienced, ambitious and creative to be our first Senior Philanthropy and Partnership Manager, to drive our fundraising strategy, create new opportunities and relationships, lead the cultivation and stewardship of new trust funders, and develop a new major donor fundraising programme.

In this role you will have strategic accountability for fundraising and overseeing progress towards fundraising targets, working with the team and the Board to generate ideas and deliver proposals for raising funds, and for highlighting our impact to potential donors. You will be a hands-on fundraiser, who builds relationships with donors, keeps on top of developments in the funding landscape, develops compelling and creative pitches and proposals for funders, and as a result delivers sustainable income generation to ensure Spotlight achieves our organisational goals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead on executing Spotlight’s fundraising strategy and donor management

• Identify, maintain and develop a robust pipeline of prospects and funders across high-net-worth individuals, trusts and foundations and other appropriate giving vehicles

• Nurture long-term relationships with existing and prospective trusts and foundations, high net-worth individuals and Donor-Advised Funds

• Work with the team to develop exciting ideas to pitch to funders and to highlight our impact, as well as identifying funding gaps and opportunities

• Prepare and submit high-quality, tailored grant applications to secure trust funding for specific projects and core activities

• Work effectively and collaboratively with the wider team, Executive Director and Board to deliver the fundraising strategy and embed fundraising confidence and process across the team

• Work with the team to develop Spotlight’s impact story and generate ideas about promoting Spotlight’s work, in line with our values 

• Track our fundraising efforts and maintain an effective overview of relationships through our Beacon CRM system

Person specification - essential criteria

• A creative and proactive mindset, with the ability to take initiative and generate new opportunities

• Proven ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, with strong oral, writing, presentation, relationship building and networking skills

• Proven track record in developing and nurturing productive and long-term relationships with potential funders

• Proven track record of meeting targets from a high-value fundraising programme (trusts and major donors) 

• Proven track record in researching and identifying new trust and major donor prospects, and developing effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans

• Experience of developing exciting pitches and high-quality funding proposals with narrative and financial reports

• Collaborative and solutions-focused, with the ability to lead internal engagement in fundraising and grant management

• Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines and excellent attention to detail

• IT proficiency, with the ability to maintain accurate and timely records using our Beacon CRM system

• An understanding of due diligence in relation to donors and donations

• A passion for fighting corruption

The Head of Fundraising and Communications plays a pivotal role in shaping and driving Bowel Research UK's fundraising strategies and audience engagement initiatives.

This position is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, growing the charity’s supporter base and income, building up new and under-developed income streams and communicating effectively with their audiences to expand their reach, and encourage financial and non-financial support to deliver the organisations mission.

You will have the autonomy and scope to drive elements of your work and take ownership of your own objectives. You will be required to collaborate on decisions to shape and deliver initiatives, programmes and processes as required for each area of income delivery. 

Key to the success of this role is a strong understanding of individual giving fundraising – an area that is underdeveloped at Bowel Research UK. This role blends the strategic oversight and leadership of a Head of Fundraising role, with the hands-on expertise of an IG fundraiser.

The successful candidate for this role will be someone who has already operated at a senior level within a charity such as at Senior Manager level, or Head of in a specific income stream. Having a background or significant experience in delivery across individual giving is also vital due to the importance of that income stream to Bowel Research UK – the post holder will be the organisations expert in IG.

The person:  
The ideal candidate will be highly skilled at relationship management, collaboration and problem solving with a strong track record of developing and managing partnerships and programmes across a variety of stakeholders, building relationships with existing and new contacts at all levels, including Board and senior management level. You will be accountable for creating and delivering against large scale partnership plans and developing new activities, events, and activations in in collaboration with existing partners. They are looking for someone with demonstrable experience of developing and delivering partnerships with charity/voluntary sector organisations as well as businesses.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Fundraiser to join our friendly team. We seek someone who feels passionately about our mission, to help us to drive income and ensure Success Club can continue to change lives, by building strong engagement with our donors and fundraisers. You will build on our past successes by managing existing relationships with, and making new grant-applications to Trusts and Foundations. We are a small core team and ideas are welcomed! You will identify new avenues for fundraising, and help us explore a growing portfolio of community support, to ensure the best possible experience for individual supporters and donors.

As Fundraiser, you’ll be the first point of contact for all inbound fundraising enquiries—whether by email, phone or at in-person events. You will nurture relationships with our existing individual and corporate supporters and identify and cultivate prospective donors.

You’ll be proactive and organised, passionate about delivering outstanding supporter experiences, and will have a strong understanding of the charity sector. Familiarity with fundraising databases or CRMs is also a plus.

The role will involve representing Success Club at occasional meetings and events, where you’ll be well supported by our existing team of Trustees and the CEO & Business and Operations Manager. There may be occasional out-of-hours work required. You’ll be a strong communicator and natural networker who enjoys building relationships and presenting.

Measures of Success

■ Strategic Communications – Delivering compelling, high-quality written applications, proposals, and reports to funders, alongside excellent verbal communication with stakeholders and partners.

■ Supporter Stewardship – Proactively identifying and cultivating relationships with high-value supporters, including trusts, foundations, and corporate sponsors, to increase engagement and secure long-term support.

■ Bid Development – Writing successful funding bids and grant applications that align with funder priorities and Success Club’s mission, achieving or exceeding income targets.

■ CRM/Data – Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records of donor interactions, applications, and outcomes in line with GDPR, enabling effective pipeline management.

■ Events & Representation – Attending and supporting community, corporate and networking events to raise the charity’s profile and create new funding opportunities.

Fundraising Executive Responsibilities

■ Deliver Against Fundraising Targets – You will work to a pre-agreed fundraising target, with a focus on generating income through writing high-quality funding applications to trusts, foundations, and corporate partners.

■ Be a Welcoming First Point of Contact – Provide a professional and helpful response to all supporter and donor enquiries across phone, email, and in-person interactions.

■ Individual Donor Strategy Development – Design and implement innovative and tailored supporter journeys to retain and grow donor engagement, particularly for high-value funders.

■ Third-Party Fundraising – Act as the key contact for all independent fundraising initiatives and offer advice and tools to maximise their success.

■ Reporting – Produce regular and accurate fundraising performance and pipeline reports for internal use and funder updates.

■ Funding Applications – Take the lead on writing compelling, well-researched funding bids to trusts, foundations and corporate partners, including tailored proposals, reports, and budgets.

■ Represent Success Club – As required, attend meetings, relevant seminars, pitches, and external events to represent the charity, network with potential funders, and raise organisational visibility.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

• Manage and grow a transformational partnership between Allen & Overy Shearman (A&OS) and United for Global Mental Health (UnitedGMH), ensuring it delivers strategic value, visibility, and impact.
• Act aUnitedGMH’s lead within A&OS, and A&OS’s liaison within UnitedGMH to foster collaboration, alignment, and shared purpose across both organisations.
• Leverage A&OS’s global network, expertise, and community to advance UnitedGMH’s mission, amplify rights-based mental health advocacy, and drive strategic engagement to support fundraising.

ENGAGEMENT:

• Collaborate with partners and senior colleagues to design innovative campaigns and activities that drive fundraising engagement and maximise strategic value for UnitedGMH. 
• Coordinate across the fundraising team to ensure alignment, foster collaboration, and unlock shared opportunities. 
• Partner with the Director of Fundraising to develop annual plans and long-term strategies, integrating budget planning and impact forecasting.

DELIVERY:

• Provide high-quality account management, working with A&OS to develop innovative ways to support UnitedGMH’s objectives and fundraising targets
• Deliver key pillars of the partnership, including:

1. First Hour, First Day
2. Pro Bono Projects and In-Kind Support
3. Programme Visits and Challenge Events
4. Global Office Fundraising Activities

• Collaborate with external agencies, travel providers, and suppliers to coordinate partnership activities
• Engage A&OS staff in UnitedGMH campaigns and events (e.g. International Youth Day, World Mental Health Day, Pride)
• Work closely with National Partners to gather and synthesise qualitative and quantitative evidence of impact, including stories, case studies and oversee financial grant management and reporting.

Provide timely and tailored support to A&OS, including:

1. Responding to queries
2. Delivering marketing assets and drafting communications
3. Creating content and campaign plans in collaboration with UnitedGMH’s communications team

• Compile regular updates to inspire A&OS staff and Ambassadors, in collaboration with their Marketing & Communications team.Liaise with the Global Mental Health Action Network team to share project updates and ensure programme delivery.
• Explore new opportunities to grow the quality and impact of the partnership, including potential new business initiatives.

Strategy & Sector Insight

• Stay informed on sector developments and competitor activity to inform innovative, legally sound partnership strategies.
• Support the Director of Fundraising in delivering the overall Corporate Partnerships strategy and operational plan.

Administration & Logistics

• Maintain a clear and accurate virtual filing system for all partnership activity and donations.
• Update relevant database records to ensure smooth tracking and reporting
• Conduct research and coordinate logistics for programme visits and events, with support from the Finance & Operations Officer

Learning & Development

• Take responsibility for personal learning and development, participating in supervision, training, and team meetings.

Essential skills: 

Experience & Strategic Thinking

• Proven experience building and managing partnerships between charities and private sector companies to maximise fundraising, with a strong understanding of how both sides benefit.
• Ability to contribute to strategic planning and translate high-level goals into actionable fundraising initiatives
• Skilled at making and implementing logical decisions that strengthen the fundraising function

Communication & Relationship Building

• Excellent written, oral, and public speaking skills to enthuse, motivate, and influence
• Proven ability to deliver exceptional donor care and relationship management across multiple stakeholders
• Experience working across teams and functions to build alignment and shared ownership, particularly in diverse and geographically dispersed teams
• Ability to work effectively with global partners and stakeholders across diverse cultural backgrounds

5. Effectively develop and manage a range of stakeholder relationships to deliver the Communications Plan.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need:

Leadership and management 

• At least 3 years of experience in a senior communications position, ideally within the charity or public sectors

• Proven ability to manage both strategy and delivery programmes, balancing long-term objectives with operational priorities
• Superb manager with the proven ability to inspire, motivate, support and lead staff to thrive and create a high performing team and measurable results.

Communications and stakeholder engagement 

• Proven experience of developing and delivering marketing and/or communications plans 

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• Skilled copywriter able to communicate messages in a clear and engaging way

IT and digital experience  

• Experience using Canva or similar accessible content creation tools, with an eye for strong visual design and brand consistency
• Ability to simplify systems and processes, particularly spreadsheet-based workflows
• Experience using CRM systems, analytics tools, email marketing software, and social media platforms

Fundraising and project management 

• Previous experience working in support of fundraising campaigns, or relevant marketing approaches 

• Project management experience: leading others to oversee and manage projects, events or campaigns.
