Who We're Looking For

We need a pragmatic and people-focused individual with a strong understanding of HR best practices and volunteer engagement. You'll likely possess:

• HR Expertise: Proven experience in Human Resources, including policy development, recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.

• Volunteer Management Experience: Familiarity with best practices in attracting, vetting, training, supporting, and retaining volunteers, ideally in a charity setting.

• Safeguarding Knowledge: A clear understanding of safeguarding principles and their application in a youth-focused charity, including DBS checks and safe recruitment.

• Compliance & Policy Development: Experience in drafting clear, compliant policies and procedures (e.g., volunteer agreements, code of conduct, expenses).

• Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent ability to communicate clearly and empathetically, building strong relationships.

• Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring compliance and accuracy in documentation.

Your Role as HR & Volunteer Management Specialist

In this critical set-up phase, you will be instrumental in:

• Developing HR & Volunteer Policies: Drafting essential policies, including volunteer agreements, recruitment procedures, code of conduct, and expenses policies.

• Establishing Safeguarding Protocols: Working with the Board to create robust safeguarding procedures for all volunteers and future staff, including the DBS checking process.

• Designing Recruitment Processes: Helping to create efficient and effective methods for attracting, interviewing, and onboarding our diverse range of volunteers (especially mentors).

• Training & Support Frameworks: Contributing to the development of initial induction and ongoing training programmes for volunteers, ensuring they feel equipped and supported.

• Volunteer Retention Strategies: Advising on ways to recognise, engage, and retain our valuable volunteer base.

• Job Description Development: Helping to create clear volunteer role descriptions for future recruitment drives.

• Compliance Advice: Providing guidance on relevant employment law and charity sector best practices.

Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

Time expectation

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.

Administrators

Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

• SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.

Outdoor Learning Volunteer Officers are a key part of our team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre and are involved in:
- Supporting and leading environmental activities with young people and the local community.
- Planning and preparing sessions - and sometimes even developing new activities to help young people connect with nature.
- You will be trained and supported by experienced project staff and work as part of a team with paid staff, trainees and other Volunteers.

Typical activities for the Outdoor Learning Volunteer role include:
- Running environmental education sessions for school visits during term time.
- Running play activities for groups of children and young people during the school holidays.
- Keeping education day resources up to date and developing new resources, activities or materials as required.
- Helping with the general running of the centre and the project, including both development work and routine maintenance to ensure we are an inspiring location for visitors to experience nature.

We aim to involve our Outdoor Learning Volunteer Officers in:
- Running a range of outdoor education and play activities and events with schools and community groups on the Skelton Grange Environment Centre site.

With over 90% of our team being disabled people, we are passionate about creating inclusive communities through lived experience-led training and advocacy. • Research & Impact: Assist in gathering feedback, analysing data or helping us report on the social impact of our work.

Growth Manager

We are looking for someone who is inspired my our mission, able to commit a day or two a week for the foreseeable future.

As a Growth Manager you will take the lead in expanding our reach and impact, through identifying new funding opportunities, applying for grants, developing partnerships, community engagement and increasing our financial resources.

You will have creative ideas about events we can run to gain followers and impact in the community.

There are plenty of other activities you could take the lead on as we grow, depending on your strengths, interests and capacity, such as recruiting additional volunteers.

Eventually, subject to funding, we want to occupy a space which will serve as a studio and collaborative space for local artists and makers. Your role could include researching available properties and securing a lease on one. 

Ideally you will have some experience of fundraising in the non-profit sector and have close connections to the local community in Oxford. However, most important is an abundance of passion, energy and enthusiasm for circularity and making a positive impact in the community

Ability to meet in person once a week with the founder and other volunteers would be a distinct advantage.

This position is a volunteer position but if you are able to secure significant funding, some of it could be diverted towards paying for staff members in the longer term.

A charity  based in  Croydon, Surrey, London, UK is looking for volunteer Charity Volunteer Assistants; to volunteer 30 unpaid hours per week. The Charity serves a multi ethnic community especially people from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds. 

Responsibilities:

• To assist in the delivery of events (ours and those we are invited to), projects and our yearly summer community event.
• To assist in the daily collection and drop off of Greggs after day produce to various soup kitchens
• To assist in promotion of organisations services. eg flyer distribution, school workshops, etc.
• To assist in the delivery of essential services 
• To assist in our soup kitchen projects

Person Specification:

• Someone enthusiastic and passionate about charity work and committed to working towards the achievements of the charities objectives.
• Knowledege of Black and ethnic minority tradition/culture is preferable however not essential.
• Experience is desirable.

This is a non-paid one year temporary position however accommodation and maintenance will be provided.

Hosted at Kingston University Townhouse, this event offers free taster classes, performances, and a vibrant Brazilian arts & products fair—engaging local communities and encouraging cross-cultural learning.

We are looking for a Programme Manager to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of the event. This hybrid volunteering role requires a commitment of 12 hours per week for 6 months. It is best suited for someone based near Kingston, as travel expenses will be reimbursed. This is a great opportunity to lead a high-profile community initiative that has previously been praised by local councillors, Kingston University, and the Brazilian Consulate in London.

Position Overview:
The Programme Manager oversees the strategic delivery of a multi-project programme focused on enhancing employability and skills development for target populations. This role ensures alignment with organisational and community goals, driving initiatives that reduce skills gaps, improve workforce readiness, and foster partnerships with employers and training providers. Reporting to the Programme Director, the Programme Manager manages a team of project specialists and coordinators, ensuring seamless execution of programme activities and measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Programme Leadership:

   • Lead the end-to-end employability and skills development programme delivery, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

   • Mentor and manage project specialists and coordinators, assigning tasks tied to programme milestones such as training workshops, employer partnerships, and participant assessments.

2. Stakeholder Collaboration:

   • Build and maintain relationships with employers, educational institutions, government agencies, and community organisations to align programme outcomes with labour market needs.

   • Act as the primary point of contact for external partners, ensuring their requirements (e.g., hiring criteria, certification standards) are integrated into programme design.

3. Programme Design & Delivery:

   • Oversee the development of training curricula, mentorship initiatives, and job placement strategies tailored to diverse participant groups (e.g., youth, career changers).

   • Monitor participant progress and employment outcomes, using data to refine programme effectiveness.

4. Risk & Compliance Management:

   • Identify barriers to participant success (e.g., accessibility, resource gaps) and escalate systemic challenges to the Programme Manager with actionable solutions.

   • Track and report on key metrics such as participant engagement, skill acquisition rates, and post-programme employment status.

   • Prepare updates for senior leadership and stakeholders to demonstrate programme impact.

2. Process Improvement:

   • Promote best practices in adult education, vocational training, and equity-focused initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Human Resources, or a related field.

• Experience:

  • 3–5 years managing employability, workforce development, or adult education programmes.

  • Proven experience leading teams and collaborating with cross-sector stakeholders.

• Skills:

  • Strong understanding of labour market trends and barriers to employment.

  • Ability to design inclusive, participant-centric programmes.

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, CRM systems) and project management software.

  • Exceptional communication skills for engaging diverse audiences.

• Certifications: Certifications in programme management (e.g., PgMP), career coaching, or adult education are advantageous.
