Job description

Role Purpose

The Volunteer PR Officer will help raise awareness of the organisation’s mission, activities, and achievements by creating and sharing engaging stories. They will manage relationships with the media, support communication campaigns, and strengthen the organisation’s public image.

Key Responsibilities

  • Media Relations
    • Draft and distribute press releases, articles, and media briefings.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, bloggers, and local media outlets.
    • Respond to media enquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Content Creation
    • Write engaging content for newsletters, blogs, and social media platforms.
    • Support the design of promotional materials (posters, flyers, campaigns).
    • Capture and share stories that showcase the impact of the organisation’s work.
  •  
  • Campaigns & Events
    • Assist with the planning and promotion of fundraising and awareness campaigns.
    • Promote events through traditional and digital channels.
    • Represent the organisation at community events and networking opportunities.
  • Brand & Reputation
    • Ensure all communications are consistent with the organisation’s tone, values, and branding.
    • Monitor media coverage and share highlights with the team.
    • Support crisis communication when needed.

Skills & Qualities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confident in networking and building relationships.
  • Creative and able to generate new ideas for campaigns.
  • Familiar with social media and digital communication tools.
  • Organised, reliable, and able to work independently.

Commitment

  • Flexible hours (approx. 3–6 hours per week, depending on campaigns and events).
  • Willingness to attend occasional meetings and events.
