Essential

Purpose of role
Stories and impact sit at the heart of what we do at Horatio’s Garden.
This pivotal new role will help us maximise these pillars to support the ambitious fundraising and brand growth in our five-year plan to complete gardens at all NHS spinal injury centres so we can be there for everyone who needs us.
The Stories and Impact Assistant will be responsible for how we create and manage the best processes to amplify powerful stories of people with spinal injuries, their families and NHS staff across our fundraising and communications work.
The role will create a new stories and impact evidence hub that will support how our impact and data gathering evidence is best used for funders, supporters and other key stakeholders to understand what life is like after a spinal injury and the transformative effect of our gardens.
You will have some opportunity to travel to the charity’s gardens and meet people with spinal injuries, volunteers and staff.

This is a one-year fixed term role funded by the Rank Foundation, a philanthropic organisation which encourages and develops leadership and promotes enterprise and innovation. It is part of the Rank Foundation’s Time to Shine, a leadership programme which offers a 12-month role alongside training and development opportunities. The role includes mandatory training days held by the Rank Foundation that will require travel and possible overnight stays.

Main duties
- Liaise with organisational teams across fundraising and communications to best understand how stories, impact data and published evidence are needed and used across the organisation.
- Design and maintain robust systems and processes to manage our complex database of stories and impact data from each of the gardens and track their use to ensure we’re making the best of their potential across our fundraising, channels and events.
- Make sure all content is accessible and adapted for different written and digital platforms.

This year, we’ve embarked on a bold, strategic initiative to enhance our data capabilities.
We’re aiming to improve our data use, integration and analytics to increase engagement, maximise impact and drive forward our strategic goals. By collaborating with various departments and stakeholders, the BI Lead ensures that data-driven decision-making and performance measurement are integral to ways-of-working, enhancing overall effectiveness and fostering continuous improvement.
This role develops and implements organisational data strategies and frameworks for measuring the impact and performance of the MS Society’s work, aligned to organisational strategy, covering data collection, analysis, and reporting, and ensuring consistency, accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of impact and performance evidence and insights.
Experience of stakeholder management both internal and external; and designing and delivering complex analysis and evaluations is required.
With one direct report, we require a seasoned manager / lead and the person applying should also have proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python) for advanced data analysis and modelling (e.g. logic models, theory of change and other evaluation models), and experience in using survey tools and software for data collection and analysis.

Your key responsibilities will include:

The Head of Communications is a fundamental role within the Somerset Wildlife Trust.
The role is responsible for leading the development and coordinated delivery of the Trust’s communications in line with the Wilder Somerset 2030 strategy. This includes identifying key audiences, crafting core messages, and selecting effective communication channels to raise awareness and understanding of the Trust’s work. The postholder will support staff across the organisation in achieving the strategy’s aims while managing a team of specialists and responding to emerging issues professionally and astutely.
Working across teams, the Head of Communications will develop and deliver an annual communications plan that meets the organisation's priorities.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Responsibility 1: Leadership & Cross Team Working
- Strategic Planning: Lead the development of the communications delivery plan and annual calendar, involving all areas of the Trust, defining key audiences, messages and channels with the aim of increasing awareness and understanding of the Trust. Provide effective leadership and build strong working relationships with departments across the charity to ensure integrated communications plans and campaigns are developed and implemented to achieve the maximum impact with external audiences.
- Communications Delivery Plan: Effective coordination of both messages and activity – both reactive and proactive throughout the year. Including improvements with revised website navigation and architecture, SEO improvements and content targeted at priority groups, including use of video, and influencers.
- Senior Leadership Team: Be an active member of the Senior Leadership Team taking collective responsibility for decision making, risk and budget management across the Trust. Work with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure all communications effectively contribute to and support all strategic goals of the Trust.
- Brand Marketing: Work with teams to improve our products and services and how these meet the needs of our audiences, including working with focus groups (with co-creation when relevant).
- Building Capability: Coordinate providing support and training for all staff to achieve effective communications, which supports the Trust’s overall brand and positioning, including mentoring the communications team.
- Systems & Processes: Maintain and develop systems for gathering information and communications planning within the Trust and from project partners, RSWT and SWT. Embedding into all teams’ ways of working.
Responsibility 2: Communications Delivery
- Line Management: Manage, support and develop a team of staff and volunteers to deliver the communications work programme, providing effective line management. Including the provision of specialist support and advice for the development of specific communication campaigns or tools across the organisation.
- Budgets: Ensure communication activity elsewhere in the Trust is produced within allocated budgets and timeframes.
- Performance: Set and manage KPIs and budget for communications programmes, monitoring and reporting performance and reforecasting in line with Trust requirements. Continuous improvement.
- Brand: Develop the Trust’s brand, ensuring a clear and distinctive brand proposition and engaging brand identity, which also supports the Trust as part of the Wildlife Trusts movement. Ensure the brand’s consistent use and monitor the link with the Trust strategy and values.
- Public Affairs: Oversee the PR and media relations (press office function), and act as a key charity spokesperson when required. Horizon scanning and being aware of emerging issues to develop opportunistic messages to optimise nature recovery actions.

- Design, Content & Print: Coordinate the Annual Report with teams and Trustees. Editor for the members’ magazine and print products to support membership retention and enable action for nature.
Responsibility 3: Campaigns for Change
- Strategic Campaign Planning: Work with our policy, advocacy and engagement specialists to design campaigns that move people through the engagement funnel, change behaviour, influence policy, and improve supporter retention. Work with the Exec Team to set campaign objectives tied to clear outcomes: acquisition, activation, retention, behaviour change, policy influence, or income generation.
- Supporter Journeys & Segmentation: Map and optimise journeys across channels (email, web, social media, print, events) with named next steps that move people toward deeper engagement and action.
- Marketing Campaign Leadership: Own the strategic design of multi-channel marketing campaigns and provide clear briefs and creative direction to the delivery team. Ensure channel integration so website journeys, email, print content and social media activity are coordinated and measurable. Keep storytelling compelling while optimising for acquisition and action.
- Advocacy & Policy Campaigns: Work across teams to design campaigns to influence systems change by leveraging our data and evidence, combining public voice, stakeholder engagement and targeted advocacy tactics.

About the role
The student representation team is an integral part of the Student’s Union here at Imperial College. We empower students to change the world around them. From running elections and supporting student-led campaigns, to delivering research and insight on student opinion – our team amplifies the voices of students and supports them in inspiring change and making the world a better place: in the Union, in the College, in the local area and beyond.
We are currently looking for an upbeat and impassioned individual to help support the Representation Manager in our primary objectives of representing students effectively and delivering the best student led experience possible. You will be an outstanding teammate working closely with Officer Trustees and elected student representatives to ensure that positive and impactful change is driven successfully. You will also help deliver Union democratic functions to ensure our representation is engaging and inclusive and enables students to be involved in the decision making at every level.
The successful candidate will have fantastic collaborative skills, becoming better at building relationships as you will have day to day contact with colleagues both across the Student’s Union and the College to facilitate the academic representation system. The role will require excellent planning and organisational skills including contributing to the strategic and operational goals in order to strengthen the Unions capacity for optimal student support through training, representation and democracy. You will also be key in supporting and delivering projects that assess impact across representation work therefore the ability to balance a multifaceted workload is essential.
Experience in a similar role within a fast paced (and fun!) environment would be helpful.
What you would be doing
The Representation Coordinator is a role to support and enable effective student representation within Imperial College Union. The role will ensure students are central to Union decision making by supporting fair democratic processes and helping to provide an excellent student experience.
The role is responsible for empowering and enabling elected student representatives to be effective in their roles, through effective and efficient training, support and administration of representation services.
Alongside the elected Officer Trustees and the Representation Manager, the role will support the development of strategic and operational goals that strengthen the Union’s support capacity and empower student-led change. The role will administer effective training and processes surrounding representation and democracy and play a critical role in assessing the impact of the student representatives. The role will support the delivery of key projects which affect the academic or educational experience of students at Imperial.

What we are looking for
Essential Requirements:
- A Level or relevant experience
- Experience of supporting and empowering volunteers (preferably within higher education)
- Experience of supporting student representation and/or democracy
- Experience of project support and/or event administration, delivery and evaluation
- Experience of maintaining relationships with stakeholders
- Experience of producing and delivering training
- Understanding of the structures, issues and trends affecting higher education and the student experience
- Understanding of best practice in student democracy
- Understanding of best practice for developing and delivering training
- Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion issues in practice
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Competent IT skills – Microsoft 365, e-mail, social media and administrative systems
- Excellent administration and organisation abilities and the competence to balance competing priorities in order to meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively on your own as well as in a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment with a flexible and adaptable approach to work
- Commitment to the Union’s values of integrity, inclusivity, and innovation
