The League of Remembrance have supported Armed Forces veterans, and their families for over 100 years. At the outset they supported the widows of those who never returned from the Great War, and, as they developed, extended this support to encompass all veterans who have served with the Forces of the Crown; their widows, spouses, and dependents; retired nursing staff and, more recently, to those suffering from illness or disability in order to aid their recovery. Today, many of their Remembrance Workers deliver varied volunteer services, mainly in Greater London, but with a presence also in Bucks and Essex. This service to the community maintains and improves individual health and wellbeing, offers companionship and social interaction, and provides valuable community support.
The League of Remembrance is seeking to strengthen its Board with the appointment of two new Trustees. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting veterans and those affected by disability, and who can help shape the future of the charity as they continue to grow and evolve.
In particular, we are keen to hear from candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Entrepreneurship
- Fundraising and income generation
- Third sector leadership
- Business development or commercial strategy
Trustees have a duty to ensure that the charity is well run, solvent, legally compliant, and working towards the charitable purpose for which it was established, and Trustee roles are an important and a highly rewarding way to support an organisation. Please note that Trustee roles are unremunerated voluntary positions, although reasonable travel expenses will be paid.

What will you do?
- Ensure the Board provides effective governance of the organisation and supports the development and execution of the new strategy within the scope of its Terms of Reference.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the Board sets Middlesex FA’s vision, mission, values, and standards and that its obligations to its stakeholders and others, including any funders, are understood and met.
- Promote good governance and ensure that Middlesex FA remains compliant with the highest tier of sports governance, as set by Sport England and UK Sport through the Code for Sport Governance and the FA through the Code of Governance for County FAs.
- Contribute to the effective governance of Middlesex FA through membership of committees or sub-groups. Ensure that the business of the Board is conducted efficiently and foster an inclusive environment where all Board members are given the opportunity to express their views.
- Lead the Board in the approval of the long-term financial plan and annual budget. Monitor the delivery of the strategic plan and objectives of the Association.
- Lead the annual review process of Board members, and take an active role in Board renewal, recruitment, and succession planning.
- Chair Board meetings effectively, ensuring that Directors receive accurate, timely and clear information and that adequate time is available for discussion and time is used productively.
- Oversee the production of Board paperwork including the development of the agenda and papers with the Chief Executive Officer.
- Ensure that the Board receives professional advice when it is needed from external sources. Is a visible and known presence to members of the Middlesex FA Council and can champion change initiatives with them.
- Conduct an annual appraisal of the Chief Executive Officer and their remuneration, and should the occasion arise ensure a new Chief Executive is recruited in line with Middlesex FA’s employment policies.
- Act as an ambassador for the Middlesex FA and help build its brand and public image. Appoint Chairs to the various committees in consultation with members of the Board.

North Staffs Mind has been delivering mental health services to both adults and young people for almost 50 years. Time commitment

VOLUNTARY (UNPAID)
We operate two small, World War 2 Heritage Centres; one in Dunkeswell and one Near Upottery (Smeatharpe) in Devon.
Ideally we are looking for local, friendly and approachable people with some spare time, to work as one of a pair, particularly on a Sunday and maybe other days as holiday relief or in case of sickness. Our usual opening times are: Thursday to Sunday, 1100 to 1600. The start of our season is Good Friday and it ends on the last Sunday in October.
An interest in history would be an advantage to you (especially WW2) but you would be surrounded by the history of that Heritage Centre in text and pictures so it is immediately accessible and easy to point visitors towards. You would work with an experienced person and would have training and briefings first.

The Role
The role of the Independent Member is to provide the Finance Committee with knowledge and experience to making key decisions in respect to the organisation’s affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained in accordance with the Association’s Bye-laws and in compliance of legal requirements.
Main Responsibilities
- To assist the Finance Committee with the review and monitoring of The Scout Association (TSA)’s financial policies and making recommendations to the Board where appropriate.
- To assist the Finance Committee with recommending the annual budget and financial plan to the Board for TSA and its trading subsidiaries; reviewing performance against this and contributing to the development of the Association’s long term financial plan and strategy.
- To assist the Finance Committee with TSA’s investment policy and asset allocation; the review and recommendation of a rolling strategy for all property and land owned by TSA and to contribute to the development, operation and performance monitoring of all National Centres.
- To contribute to the development of TSA’s Fundraising strategy and monitor performance against this.
- To support the Finance Committee in monitoring financial and deliverable performance against TSA’s Digital and Digital Technology strategies.
- To assist the Finance Committee in recommending to the Board the appointment of external auditors and meeting with auditors to discuss audit plans, fees, and key findings from the audit.
- To contribute to the detailed review and approval of TSA’s statutory accounts.
- To consider decisions and recommendations that involve substantial expenditure outside of budget.
- To assist the Finance Committee in the monitoring of TSA’s insurance arrangements and the financial impacts of TSA’s Pension Schemes, Development Grants Board and other TSA funds and making recommendations to the Board where necessary.

- Looking ahead, there is the potential for the Finance Committee to evolve into a broader Audit and Risk Committee. While this role is currently focused on financial oversight, we would welcome applicants who bring additional experience or understanding of internal controls, risk management, and audit practices.

Other essential criteria
The Finance Committee will meet at least four times a year (generally two meetings online and two face to face in Central London), with the requirement to read papers and contribute to occasional discussions and specific issues between meetings. Appointment term
These appointments would normally be for three years (subject to a 6-month review), extendable by mutual consent for a further three years.
Remuneration and expenses
In common with other registered charities, there is no remuneration directly associated with the role, although the Association will reimburse fully for all reasonable and properly documented expenses incurred in performing duties in accordance with the Association’s Expenses Policy.
Safeguarding rules – Yellow Card
We are a youth organisation who takes safeguarding seriously. The post holder agrees to comply at all times with the safeguarding rules as set out on TSA’s yellow card. This is shared with young people and carers, as well as employees, so everyone knows our rules of engagement. In order to comply, stringent vetting procedures take place including checking against an internal database to assess suitability and also Basic/Enhanced DBS checks as required.

Through sharing your experience, expertise, and knowledge, you will – collectively with other Trustees – hold the Executive Leadership Team to account for the performance of the charity and the successful delivery of our strategy.
Working collaboratively with other Trustees and our Executive Leadership Team, you will help us set, maintain, and uphold Nacro’s vision, mission, and strategy, ensuring that we are governed efficiently and effectively and in accordance with the law, our objectives and governing documents, relevant regulatory, and funding requirements.
As a Trustee, you will uphold the principles of good governance, aligned with the Trustee Code of Conduct, whilst promoting the values of Nacro.
As a Trustee Board, we support the leadership team in providing people with the help they need. By becoming a Trustee, you will have the opportunity to help us achieve our vision of a society where everyone has the chance to succeed, where a safe, secure home, a decent education, and a second chance are the foundations on which we can all build our lives.
Who we are looking for
We seek someone who can become a Trustee of Nacro and contribute to our Education Committee. The Education Committee acts as the de facto governing body for our Education & Skills Directorate.
The person appointed to this role will act as the Education Safeguarding Lead on our Board of Trustees, working with our other Safeguarding Leads from across the charity.
We seek a candidate with strategic experience in education and/or children’s services. As a large charity with a turnover of almost £100m, operating across the country, and with further growth planned, it feels important for the person appointed to bring experience of strategic leadership at scale.
Having an understanding of the services Nacro provides and the importance of the type of education and training we deliver is vital. Whilst we might not be able to change the world, we can certainly aim to change the world around each one of our students studying in our Education & Skills Centres.
