Practice Development Officer

The Role

The organisation supports local areas to use evidence to improve their services and outcomes for children and families. The Practice Development Officer will be part of a team who work with local leaders to support their decision making about how to increase the availability of services and approaches which have evidence of improving child outcomes.

As Practice Development Officer, you will support work that helps local services for children and families use evidence more effectively across Family Hubs, Family Help, and statutory social work. You will contribute to projects aligned with Foundations’ priority areas, including domestic abuse, supporting parenting, strengthening family networks and relationships for care experienced children. 

Your tasks will include organising and coordinating activities that support service improvement, designing and delivering learning sessions to build skills and confidence in using evidence, supporting the generation of new evidence to understand what works, and working with national organisations to promote the wider use of evidence in practice.

About You

We are looking for someone with an in-depth understanding of UK policy, legislation and practice relating to children’s services, including how this responds to the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.

You will have experience of:

• Practice in children’s social work and/or early intervention services
• Co-ordinating projects for service improvement or practice development in a relevant sector, for example local authority children’s services, health, or NHS
• Translating complex information into practical messages, advice, and tools.

Are you passionate about supporting families with the guidance and support their need to live within the community and thrive as a family? We are recruiting for a Therapeutic Worker to join our specialist Family Residential Service in Sheffield. The service provides drug and alcohol recovery support for parents and their children in a residential setting.

 The Role

Your role in our therapeutic community will be key. You’ll manage a caseload, assess the people who use our service and manage their care plans. It will mean developing and applying a range of therapeutic approaches to meet their individual needs, whether that’s employment, education, health, or their ability to interact socially. You’ll be the one who sees that everything is coordinated from the moment they’re referred to us to the time that they leave.

As a Therapeutic Worker, you will support individuals accessing the residential rehabilitation programme to achieve outcomes that help create long-term recovery. Using the Therapeutic Community “community as method” model you will empower individuals, families and communities to be confident about recovery.

You will support the day to day running of the therapeutic community, ensuring service user needs are met and the best possible care is provided in an environment that promotes a culture of recovery in line with a recovery orientated system of care and the Quality Principles. Managing a service user case load, providing end-to-end care co-ordination from admission to discharge planning ensuring care plans meet the needs of both service users and stakeholders. Whilst also being confident to deliver therapeutic groups, activities, and specialised interventions in accordance with the TC manual and the needs of the service. 

Previous experience is desirable, however not essential. Support Workers come from many different backgrounds and experiences, and you may have the skills required. We are seeking dedicated individuals, based on your values, willingness to learn new skills and the compassion to deliver the best service possible to our residents.

This is a full-time role, working an average of 37.5 hours per week. You will be expected to work a 6-week rolling rota which includes evening and weekend working.

Context of Job

AFK is a national charity creating opportunities for children and young people who are disabled or neurodiverse, to increase their independence, reach their individual potential and remove the barriers they face. Our vision is a world where there are no barriers to independence for children and young people who are disabled or neurodiverse. As part of this we provide bespoke employment skills training and organise work experience across North London.  

At a national level, we provide mobility equipment not available on the NHS for disabled children and young people up to the age of 25.

Overall Job Purpose

To support young people aged 18+ with a range of disabilities/neurodiversity to progress towards and into employment. The role will be to primarily liaise with employers and brokering new opportunities for supported and unsupported employment. You will also work with young people assessing their employability skills and place young people into employment, some voluntary roles and work placements. Specialist one to one job coaching will be required to enable young people to progress towards their own goals and objectives.

Working Conditions

The post is 35 hours a week, normally 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. The post holder may be expected to work some evenings and weekends as required by the job.

Principal Responsibilities

Employer Engagement & Opportunity Development

1. Proactively engage with employers to identify and create employment opportunities for young people (YP), including voluntary roles, work tasters, and placements.
2. Secure a range of opportunities—paid employment, voluntary work, work tasters, and placements—to support individuals on their employment journey.
3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the local labour market and emerging opportunities relevant to employment, volunteering, and work experience.
4. Build and sustain effective partnerships with local employer groups, statutory bodies, voluntary organisations, and private sector stakeholders to develop suitable opportunities for YP.
5. Provide training and guidance to employers as needed to support inclusive employment practices.

Individual Support & Coaching

1. Deliver intensive one-to-one support to individuals across all aspects of employment preparation and progression.
2. Work with up to two YP at a time, in collaboration with their Employment Coach (EC), to identify and support their employment aspirations.
3. Assess and advise on financial implications related to part-time employment and disability benefits for individuals.
4. Support YP in developing employment-related skills and connect them with relevant training opportunities.
5. Provide initial workplace support to YP before transitioning ongoing support to their EC.
6. Refer YP to specialist services for additional advice and support when appropriate.
7. Develop tailored plans to help YP achieve their employment goals.
8. Deliver or coordinate coaching and training sessions as required.

Collaboration & Case Management

1. Collaborate weekly with AFK’s Senior Employment Coach to match job roles to YP from EC caseloads.
2. Monitor YP progress into employment and maintain accurate records.

Administration & Professional Development

1. Complete all administrative tasks associated with the role in a timely and accurate manner.
2. Participate in learning and development activities identified through regular appraisals and reviews.

Undertake any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director of Services and the Employment & Skills Manager.

The Role

We need someone who can work in a team within a residential family setting and be empowering and passionate in supporting families to make positive changes in their drug and alcohol lifestyle choices. Your role would include the following:

• To manage all enquiries and referrals made to the service, undertake comprehensive needs assessments and risk assessment for individuals.
• Liaise with Residential Manager to make placement decisions about the suitability of individuals with multiple needs.
• Welcome new residents into the service and ensure all needs of the individuals are met upon arrival.
• Be responsible for data management of referrals, assessments, ensuring all admissions are managed safely and report data in line with processes in place.
• Liaise with referrers and stakeholders to ensure promotion of new relationships and existing relationships are maintained

Whilst the service is 24/7, this role is Monday to Friday with flexible working opportunities.

About You

• Experience of working with people and families with multiple and varying needs including addiction and have a working knowledge of residential rehabilitation and strengthening recovery capital.
• Experienced in working with multiple stakeholders and nurturing relationships, you will be able to confidently provide guidance and support to individuals, families, and stake holders in relation to accessing and developing residential rehabilitation pathways into the service.

We are recruiting two Trainee Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners to join our Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Team at YMCA East Surrey.

Trainee Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs) will be expected to integrate into YMCA East Surrey’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health (EWMH) team and to support all early intervention work. You will assess and deliver (under supervision), outcome focused, evidence-based interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.   

This Trainee Children's Wellbeing Practitioner role includes completion of the Child Wellbeing Practice Postgraduate or Graduate level Diploma run by the University of 

Sussex, which follows the nationally agreed curriculum to qualify as a Children's Wellbeing Practitioner.

The post holder must have experience of working with children, young people and families with multiple and/or complex needs and hold a minimum qualification equivalent to a NVQ Level 3 in a relevant field. In addition, the successful candidate must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

For the Level 6 (Graduate Diploma) the minimum level would be 3 x A-levels with grades of AAB - BBB (BBC if meet the criteria for contextual offer), or an equivalent qualification such as NVQ level 3 or above, or equivalent experience (and proven ability to work at graduate level). Evidence of experience of working with children and young people.

For the Level 7 (Post-graduate Diploma) the minimum requirement is a Graduate Degree at 2:2, NVQ level 6 or above in Health Care or equivalent experience (and proven ability to work at post-graduate level) 

Working Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm. Includes attendance at the University of Sussex 2 days per week from January to October.

 

Location: Tadworth, but working across various locations in East Surrey and attendance at the University of Sussex.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

· Working in partnership to support children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties

· To develop plans for successful intervention and agreed outcomes.

· To support and empower children, young people and families to make informed choices about the intervention.

· To always operate from an inclusive values base, which recognises and respects diversity.

· To accept referrals within agreed national and local protocols.

· To undertake accurate assessment of risk to self and others.

· To adhere to the service referral protocols. Under supervision, signpost unsuitable referrals to the relevant service as necessary.

· Through close case management and supervision, escalate cases where the level of need becomes beyond scope

· Provide a range of information and support for evidence based psychological treatments, primarily guided self-help.

· Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or CYP in treatment, where appropriate.

· Keep coherent records of all activity in line with service protocols and use these records and outcome data to inform decision making.

· Attend and fulfil all the requirements of the training element of the post including practical, academic and practice-based assessments.

· As well as attendance at the University for training, fulfil private study requirements to enhance learning and prepare assignments for examination - recommendation is 150 hours of study for each of the 8 modules, which includes the teaching days.

· Assess and integrate issues relating to transitions, education and training/employment into the overall therapeutic process.

The role 

SAFE! Support for Young People Affected by Crime is a dynamic Oxford based charity working across the Thames Valley.  We are looking for experienced practitioners based in the Thames Valley and the surrounding areas to provide support on a freelance basis to young people and parents/caregivers across all our services. Subcontracted sessional practitioners are contracted on a freelance basis to provide one-to-one support to young people and their parents.  There are also opportunities to co-facilitate group work.  Sessions may be delivered remotely or face to face, dependent upon the needs of clients.  Freelancers are home-based practitioners who travel to meet young people and /or parents face-to-face (within a 25-mile radius), provide remote support online, or a combination of both.

Locations: Thames Valley area.

Payment: Practitioners submit invoices monthly and are paid at a rate of £25 (INCREASED)? per hour for admin and delivery and £10 per hour for travel time.  They are liable for all tax and expenses.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a fantastic chance to join the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, working within the Delivery team as our new National Cycle Network (NCN) Project Officer.

As the NCN Delivery Project Officer you will support and deliver feasibility and infrastructure construction projects, working closely with team managers to ensure effective project management, community engagement, stakeholder collaboration, and operational delivery. You’ll help drive projects forward in line with organisational goals and compliance standards. 

You will have the opportunity to work on projects which seek to tackle some of England’s greatest active travel challenges, including the response to the climate emergency, the inequitable distribution of (and access to) green space, the social injustice of private vehicle dominance and the realisation of equitable and joyful public space for all.

The focus of this role is in the England North region; we may occasionally need you to travel during the course of your work including occasional overnights stays, and you may occasionally be required to work at other locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Walk Wheel Cycle Trust. Candidates should be based within the geographical area with regular travel expected to a nominated hub/office base in Leeds, Manchester, or Newcastle.

ABOUT YOU

You should have excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong report writing experience. 

Experienced with working collaboratively within a team, you will also be adept at building meaningful and productive relationships with stakeholders, public sector (local authority) partners, landowners, contractors and volunteers. 

This role requires a self-starter who can work independently, with a passion for active travel.

Well organised with an ability to think critically and are keen to learn. Experience with project management tools and mapping software is desirable, but not essential. You will have 3 years' work experience in a relevant field (Geography, infrastructure, transport planning, town planning, sustainable transport, technical project management, urban design).

Our work across Newcastle
Volunteering Matters play a vital role supporting volunteering in Newcastle. Since 2005, we have been operating Volunteer Centre Newcastle (VCN). This service provides a wide range of support around all things volunteering to 1250+ charities, organisations, and groups locally. Each year, we also support 2500+ members of the public who are interested in volunteering and need support to get started. We also lead the Home from Hospital and Community Support project where volunteers support older people with their transition home following a hospital admission. 

In early 2025, we launched the Good Neighbours Newcastle project funded by Newcastle City Council. We deliver this project alongside our delivery partner organisation, Search Newcastle, with a second partner organisation scheduled to join in early 2026.

Good Neighbours project
We would all like to live in a place that has a sense of community, where people look out for their neighbours. The Good Neighbours project aims to foster a feeling of positive wellbeing and independence for those who may be socially isolated, or who don’t have many people around them, giving that “little bit of help”.

The project helps people in the community feel safe, supported, and more able to live an independent life, whilst preventing, reducing and delaying the need for formal support through Adult Social Care. It also provides people the opportunity to volunteer a little time, in a flexible way, to make a difference in their own community. We know volunteering can lead to enhanced skills, and positive wellbeing. Volunteers provide practical or social support, completing “one-off’ or short-term tasks, supporting a neighbour.  This includes tasks like collecting essentials, driving someone to a GP appointment, helping with odd jobs around the house, light gardening, or checking in with someone for a cuppa and chat. 

Role Purpose
We are looking for a talented, dynamic, and professional Project Manager to join our team in Newcastle.  The right candidate would be someone with excellent knowledge of “best practice” in Volunteer Management and with experience of establishing new and exciting volunteering programmes.

This is a senior role within our Newcastle team so it is essential that the postholder is agile, can work flexibly, is an excellent communicator, and can build strong working relationships with a range of people. 

In this role, you will:

• Lead and manage all aspects of the Good Neighbours project, meeting ambitious goals, ensuring all volunteers and beneficiaries achieve positive outcomes
   
• Lead and manage our partnerships on a day-to-day level with Search Newcastle and another local charity, to raise the profile of the project, ensuring successful delivery and ongoing development of the work

This role is subject to successful contract award and is a fixed term role until 31st November 2026 with the opportunity to be made permanent subject to contract renewal.

The role will be home-based, with extensive travel across Lincolnshire and Leicestershire to integrate into teams within probation buildings. Main purpose of post
This role is to lead and be responsible for the development, management and
delivery of WPCC’s high quality, professional counselling and complementary
therapy services for adults, and for children and young people, at the Cavendish
Centre and in outreach locations. This role supports the holistic well-being of

1,000 beneficiaries per annum, including outreach provision in hospitals.
 To be responsible for the management of a complementary therapy and

Leadership & Service Development
 Lead and develop complementary therapy and counselling services to
meet the needs of clients, families, and carers.
 Plan and schedule timetables and freelance staffing rotas to maximise
the availability of counselling and complementary therapies within
available budgets, maximising freelancer availability and efficient
appointment scheduling.
 Evaluate and enhance service delivery in line with best practices, clinical
guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
 Identify and implement service improvements, based on user feedback,
evidence-based practice, and sector developments.
 Work effectively with the Head of Cancer Services and other service leads
to ensure counselling and complementary therapies are an integral part
of the wider WPCC service offer to people affected by cancer.
 To be part of a service lead team which can provide leadership cover
across all services to address day-to-day operational issues, including
safeguarding cover (for adult and children’s services) and maintenance
of service availability.
Freelance therapist management
 Recruit, support, and manage a multidisciplinary team of freelance
counsellors, therapists, and volunteers.
 Ensure therapists delivering these services are of a suitable quality, and
have up-to-date and relevant accreditation/professional registration to practice, including clinical supervision arrangements, insurance, CPD
and DBS checks.
 Provide professional oversight of freelance therapists ensuring all
professional standards are met
 Ensure all team members adhere to safeguarding, clinical governance,
and confidentiality standards.
 To ensure therapists delivering these services are of a suitable quality
and have up-to-date and relevant accreditation/professional registration
