Our hospice has been supporting the communities of Liverpool and the North West for more than 30 years and we are currently in an exciting season of growth and development. Children and Young People Support Worker (Connected and Adoption Alliance, North Wales)

Hours of work:

An average of 25 hours a week, worked flexibly to meet service needs

You will work a mixture of evening work (2-3 x 2 hour evening sessions per week), plus one full weekend per month, with the rest of your hours worked flexibly during the week. Generally, you will work  between 20-25 hours most weeks, with one week per month requiring you to work 35 hours (this includes the full weekend hours).

This is a Wales-based post, so the successful candidate must reside in the North wales area.

The role will involve hybrid working - a mixture of home based and community working, with one day a week in our Prestatyn office (or other agreed location to enable face to face meet ups with colleagues)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

•To support the delivery of ‘Connected’ and monthly meetings for children and young people, and the Adoption Alliance Project (which is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund)

•To work closely with the Connected Lead Worker and the Adoption Alliance Lead to support and enable young, adopted people in North Wales to participate fully; and to support the delivery of both projects and for children and young people to participate using either Welsh or English language as they choose.

•To support the Lead Worker to run Connected sessions, and help facilitate young people’s involvement in making change in the way adopted young people are treated in education settings through the Adoption Alliance project. 

•To support the Children and Young People Service Manager in delivering other aspects of the CONNECT Service, such as supporting delivery of Adoption Awareness Training; creating content for the CONNECT website; and supporting the CONNECT Voices Youth Council.

•Partners will include the North Wales Adoption Service, National Adoption Service, the Education Departments of each of the 6 local authorities across North Wales, and ESTYN. 

MAIN DUTIES

•To work with the Connected Lead Worker/Adoption Alliance Lead to deliver Connected sessions and Adoption Alliance services across North Wales, and in particular to assist with the groups and support young people to achieve their goals.

•To provide support to the development, delivery, and promotion of both services, including planning of an annual programme of group sessions and activities for delivery, and purchasing and preparing resources.

•To support the Connected Lead Worker/Adoption Alliance Lead in undertaking the processing of referrals and initial engagement with young people. 

•To support the the Connected Lead Worker/Adoption Alliance Lead to work with the young people and their families to establish whether the service is appropriate for them; and to agree measurable outcomes in line with the guidance provided for the Regulated and Inspection Social Care 2016 Act for adoption services.

•To support the Connected Lead Worker/Adoption Alliance Lead to maintain agreed levels of contact with young people and their adoptive family, as long as they remain registered with the services.

•To work closely with the Connected Lead Worker/Adoption Alliance Lead to book venues, take bookings for sessions/training, and gather output and outcome data from the project.

•To support the creation and review of individual support plans for children and young people, session plans and  risk assessments, and to input these onto our data system

•To support young people who wish to have their voices heard, in national and regional forums.

•To demonstrate a willingness to learn and to participate in regular reflective practice sessions, to enhance skills and service delivery

Role: Children and Young People’s Schools Coordinator

This is a critical time for hospice and end of life care. Hospices across the UK are in the worst financial situation they have faced for 20 years. The funding crisis means hospices are cutting services and making redundancies.

But this is also a time of significant political opportunity. The Assisted Dying Bill has placed palliative care firmly on the agenda. We have recently secured £100m of emergency funding for the sector in England and the 10-year health plan has identified hospices as central to the shift from hospital to community. 

To seize this once in a generation opportunity, we are expanding our UK-wide policy and public affairs team from six to eight, including a new Policy and Public Affairs Manager. 

We are looking for a proactive and driven policy and public affairs professional with excellent influencing and communication skills. You will have your finger on the pulse and have strong policy and political knowledge that enables you to quickly understand and analyse the impact of external developments. 

You will be curious about how best to improve people’s experiences of death, dying and bereavement and strengthen the contribution of the hospice sector to this. As well as collaborative and committed to building coalitions to maximise our impact. 

You will provide leadership but must also be willing to pitch in at all levels to get things done. Excellent project management skills will mean you can identify where our resource is best spent and how to delegate tasks. This exciting new role in our award-winning External Affairs Department will fight for the hospice sector and people who need their care and support.

Katherine Low Settlement has worked with older people since its conception in 1924.They are a core part of the community that we continue to work with. We provide, often in partnership, a range of projects and activities for older people including health and wellbeing; creative arts; intergenerational work; connecting people and trips/outings. 

Our services include Battersea Bites, Age Well and Core social activities and digital inclusion.

We work with people 50+ to: 

• Encourage active and independent living 

• Reduce isolation and loneliness 

• Improve well-being and prevent ill-health 

• Engage members to be dynamic and contributing members of the Wandsworth community.

Key Objectives for this Role 

Oversee the day-to-day running of our Battersea Bites Programme that includes a lunch club for people 50+ that runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and a healthy eating session on Mondays. This includes leading in the planning, shopping and preparation and provision of meals, the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the kitchen including overseeing a team of volunteers and ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements. 

Roles & Responsibilities 

Planning 

• Plan and develop a monthly lunch service menu, a month in advance, using creative license to provide nutritious, varied, and satisfying meals that meet diverse dietary requirements (e.g., allergies, cultural needs, vegetarian/vegan options) while strictly adhering to Health & Safety and food hygiene regulations. 

• Develop ideas for Battersea Bites Healthy cook and eat/ other sessions with the Age Well Team.

• Handle purchases and expense tracking using the Soldo card, ensuring full compliance with the bank card usage policy, and submitting all receipts and records promptly and accurately for financial oversight and reporting, for which training can be provided.

• Create several themed menus throughout the year which will engage members. For example, a Summer Lunch, an Afternoon Tea, etc.

• Support the planning of the older people’s lunch club with older people themselves

• Support the Elders team to welcome and support new members to feel part of the programme. 

Delivery 

• Complete a weekly food shop either online (we currently use Asda delivery service) or locally, buying fresh ingredients weekly which fall within the financial budget. 

• Prepare, cook and serve healthy meals, ensuring dietary needs are met 

• Undertake stock control such as stock rotation, ensuring all food items are labelled with expiry dates and disposed of when necessary. 

• Ensure all equipment is ready and set up for the lunch club service. 

• Ensure the security of the kitchen and store cupboards to provide a safe working environment. (Our cupboards are locked.)

• To ensure routine day-to-day as well as specialised cleaning of kitchen equipment, work surfaces, kitchen floors and storage areas. 

• Keep accurate and up-to-date records, including the health and safety folder containing opening and closing checks. Training can be provided.

• Ensure your hygiene and cleanliness are of the highest standard, and those of anyone entering the kitchen, including volunteers, are suitably dressed and uphold the same standards 

• Be part of and work closely with the Elders Team at KLS 

• Support elders who attend the club so that the sessions are safe and enjoyable for them.

• Inform the Manager (or in their absence the Head of Service) of any concerning incidents, compliments, complaints or accidents (including safeguarding issues).

• Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills by quickly and calmly addressing kitchen challenges and ensuring smooth meal preparation under pressure.

• Take part in the monitoring and evaluation of the programme under the guidance of the Managers of the 50+ programme

• Coordinate with staff and volunteers to ensure efficient meal service.

• To attend any relevant training sessions to ensure that you are fully equipped to perform your role effectively

• To actively assist in the continuation of our high food hygiene rating

• Have acquired or are willing to Level 2 and Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate

• Actively participate in meetings such as supervision and appraisals, and staff meetings. The manager reviews progress, reflects on goals, and completes agreed actions and tasks within set deadlines to support ongoing development and programme success.

Coordination of Battersea Bites Volunteers 

• Form and build positive working relationships with volunteers who work within Battersea Bites.

About the role

Our Lancashire Infant Feeding Support project is commissioned by Lancashire Council, to offer infant feeding support across the region in both community and hospital settings. The support is delivered by staff and volunteer peer supporters.

You will be responsible for offering breastfeeding support for parents within East Lancashire Hospital Trust and the community.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:

• Providing Infant feeding support to families on the wards at the hospitals, in service user homes and community settings within Lancashire.
• Support in delivering inductions for volunteer peer supporters.
• To report any concerns or additional support needs of women to the NCT management team and/or Infant Feeding Lead for referral onto partner agencies as appropriate.
• To attend regular supervision/support sessions.
• Having a good working knowledge and understanding of the local demographics in the Lancashire area and ensuring all support is accessible and inclusive.

You must have good communication skills and be able to build relationships and create a rapport with a wide range of people easily. This is a large project and covers multiple locations so you must be able to confidently prioritise your own work, be highly organised and able to work independently.

Being able to make decisions and respond appropriately to our staff, peer supporters and parents and other external stakeholders is essential, alongside good IT skills– including Outlook, Word and Excel – and you must have good attention to detail. It is essential for this post that you undertake the training to become an NCT Breastfeeding Peer Supporter. This requires breastfeeding experience of at least 3 months. The training can be undertaken within your working hours.

The role is 17.5 hours per week which will be worked Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 09:00 – 15:00. This will be split across the hospital, in service user homes and at community settings across Lancashire, however there is also some home-based working required.

Beyond this vital workstream, the Impact and Evaluation Manager will strengthen our ability to elevate the voices and experience of young people and their families as we look to strengthen the system, and, using our evidence base, speak to the short mid- and long-term benefits of early intervention and prevention in key sector debates including but not exclusively behaviour and attendance policies in schools.
