DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this.

Alex and Emily were awarded OBEs in The King’s Birthday Honours List in 2023 in recognition of their services to charity and to people living with DMD. They, and the dedicated and effective team they have built at Duchenne UK, are now at the forefront of this work in the UK.

We have an opportunity to join our team and build on these achievements. We are recruiting for maternity cover for our Personal Assistant and Office Manager, who will be a key part of our team and play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission.
This is an all-encompassing role for an accomplished and confident Personal Assistant to support the Founders and Director of Research of an innovative and ambitious charity and oversee the management of the Duchenne UK office.
The successful candidate will be highly organised with strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of individuals, internally and externally. Reliability and a can‐do, proactive attitude is a must, along with having an outstanding commitment and sense of dedication to understanding, fulfilling and anticipating the principles' and office's needs and priorities.
The Personal Assistant and Office Manager will report to the Finance Manager and work alongside the Managing Director, CEO and Director of Research and Development.

Job Description:
Duties to include, but not limited to:
- High volume diary management, including work and personal diary prioritisation and filtering out non-essential meetings.
- Answering, screening and responding as appropriate to incoming calls, visitors and correspondence.
- Preparing for internal and external meetings, calls and video conferences including confirming relevant materials are received, printed and bound for meetings.
- Management of travel arrangements. Scheduling and tracking domestic and international travel itineraries within several time zones.
- Administration support for the research team, including arranging meetings and assisting with event and meeting organisation.
- Management of expenses including arranging currency and processing expense claims in a timely manner.
- General office management and operational support including:
- Liaising with suppliers / brokers (e.g. internet, energy, insurance)
- Relationship management with office landlord
- Overseeing office supplies and equipment
- Internal event organisation (e.g. staff away day, wellness day, staff meetings), including budget management, venue booking, overseeing delivery on site.
- Maintaining up‐to‐date contacts.
- Managing internal files and maintaining the confidentiality and organisation of file contents.
- Minute taking and writing, general secretarial and administrative support, including at Board meetings.
- Booking personal appointments for the CEO where necessary.
- Management of deadlines and prompting the team where necessary.
- Other ad hoc duties including personal tasks.
- Occasional support on Duchenne UK’s high-profile events.
The experience needed

About the role:
The Senior Multiple Needs Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) will work within a dynamic, crisis intervention, advocacy and support service based at the CGL Ealing Women’s Wellness Zone. The IDVA will provide support in the local community and at the Ealing Women’s Wellness Zone. The successful candidate will be co-located up to 5 days a week at the Women’s Wellness Zone.
The IDVA will be closely working alongside CGL colleagues/team to deliver support to women with a range of complex support needs including substance misuse, mental health, domestic abuse, sex working, trafficking, and offending behaviour. The IDVA will work in collaboration with their team members to holistically support women in the borough of Ealing to achieve sustained recovery, improved health and wellbeing, helping women to manage/mitigate risks, and empowering them to reach their fullest potential in society as well as ensuring the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process.
The Senior Multiple Needs IDVA will assess the needs and risks of survivors, carry out short and longer-term risk management, safety planning and support. As well as identify and refer to services appropriate to their needs. They will also proactively advocate and advice women of their rights and options for seeking help and support from other agencies, encouraging them to engage with other agencies, and help co-ordinate the provision of multi-agency support where necessary.
About You:
To be successful as the Senior Multiple Needs IDVA you will need to have:
Excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children, of best practice in supporting survivors of domestic abuse, and of the MARAC. As well as understanding of drug and alcohol issues and experience of working within a related field.
Bringing your experience of risk and needs assessment, safety and support planning, and crisis planning and successfully managing high numbers of referrals and experience of working in a co-located setting with another agency and providing consultations/briefings to professionals to support in upskilling them around Domestic Abuse. The candidate will have experience of partnership working and of maintaining excellent working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to work as part of an innovative service, designed to offer multi-disciplinary wrap-around support to women with multiple needs, with the aim of facilitating long-term recovery.

The young people we work with have become homeless for a number of reasons – isolation or mental health, abusive relationships, substance misuse, involvement in gangs/county lines - their issues are complex so you will need to be able to build strong, trusting relationships so that our customers feel safe and supported.
We are opening two new supported housing schemes in Lambeth, which will be Ofsted registered. Both schemes are part of our well-established Young Persons and Complex Needs service in London and will provide temporary housing for young people aged 16-17 who are experiencing homelessness.
A bit about the role:
As a Caseworker, you will be working with a team of highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated colleagues supporting a caseload of young customers with complex needs. You’ll need to meet each customer weekly to help them with their goals and discuss their progress. And, when someone’s ready to move on, we'll rely on you to help them access the housing register or look for suitable rented accommodation.
What we’re looking for:
You may have worked with vulnerable young people in a paid or voluntary capacity, maybe as a Youth Worker or in an education setting providing pastoral care. You’re a great relationship builder, who can create trust so that our young people feel comfortable sharing their issues with you, you listen but in a non-judgemental way and you are able to spot signs for concern and act on them. New Horizon Youth Centre runs a busy day centre from Monday to Friday, providing basic needs to young people experiencing homelessness and a one-stop-shop for housing advice, youth work activities, counselling, jobs, education and training support. The Services Manager (Day Centre) is a brand new role for the organisation. They will work as part of the existing Youth Work Team to provide vital additional capacity and expertise to respond to the significantly increased demand we have been experiencing. This role is primarily focused on delivering our frontline day centre service each week. Last year we saw a 133% growth in the numbers of young people facing homelessness coming through our doors. Now, nearly half of them are - or recently have been - sleeping rough and with the numbers of young rough sleepers in the capital growing at an alarming rate, New Horizon Youth Centre has had to take decisive action to unlock support and housing for this group. The Head of Services - Rough Sleeping is a brand-new role for the organisation and will lead on developing a new internal strategy for young people facing rough sleeping, as well as holding operational oversight of our established youth-specific street outreach function and emergency accommodation hub, both of which are unique in London. You will need to be strategic in approach and an excellent relationship builder. You will act as our lead colleague on relationships with the Greater London Authority and London Councils’ rough sleeping teams, working with them to ensure our learning and insights inform policy and ultimately open up access to emergency support for those under 25. Alongside this you will need a keen eye for operational detail, have experience of delivering homelessness services, and be passionate about piloting new solutions to prevent homelessness among young people. More than anything you will need to champion what young people can achieve, be committed to collaborating with others and determined to find a way.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our new service supporting Unpaid Carers across Lewisham to improve their health and wellbeing, and access support that meets their needs.
The team works with unpaid Adult Carers, Young Adult Carers and Young Carers, completing statutory and holistic assessments to understand people’s individual circumstances and level of need. You will carry out home visits and community meetings, co-produce support plans, and develop effective relationships with Unpaid Carers, families, and professionals.
You’ll build on your local knowledge to signpost and facilitate access for Unpaid Carers to support services, including financial and benefit advice, housing, health and safety home systems, and leisure and social activities. You will also support the development of escalation plans so that Unpaid Carers are prepared for unforeseen circumstances that would impact negatively on ability to care.
Applicants should have relevant personal or professional experience of working with Unpaid Carers and/or vulnerable adults or children in a social care, health, education or voluntary and community sector. You’ll need a practical understanding of barriers faced by Unpaid Carers, and an awareness of cultural differences and access to services. Experience of working in mental health or dementia services would be an advantage.
You should be an excellent communicator and able to motivate and empower others. This is a full-time role.

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Service Manager to support women and children who are impacted by domestic abuse and other gender-based crimes. In this role you will provide line management and support to staff who work with and help women and their children who have experienced domestic abuse and are staying in our Lambeth refuges. About You:
To be successful as the Young Persons Advocate you will need the below experience and skills:
The post holder will have proven experience of working with children and young people and may have a background in youth work. They will have an excellent understanding of violence against women and girls, risk management and of best practice within the young people’s sector. As an experienced youth worker who has worked with young women and girls with complex and multiple needs, the post holder will be skilled in risk management and safety and support planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis.
Experience of direct work with young women and girls who have experienced abuse, and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision.
